Re: 150 greatest albums by women (77,474) (77,477)

I think the reason why Mariah often listed lower from a list like this is because it's the effect of the "public hate" that she's getting from the past few years. She not even in the top 40, and yet Madonna, Whitney, Janet, Beyonce is in that bracket, even Destiny's Child, Taylor Swift and Britney is much higher compared to her. Not that this matters to her achievements or whatnot, but it seems like they consciously depriving Mariah's name to be listed higher with this lists because it's a trend to hate Mariah, it's like "if you hate or laugh at Mariah, you're cool". I just wish her impact, musicality and talent as a songwriter gets credit that it deserves even though her image is falling apart, like it must be two different things. But I guess it is what it is.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm happy the movie did so well. They deserve it. Will Packer did his thing. It's a very good look for Mariah. Wish her involvement would have been more or maybe a longer clip of her performance, but it still had a good impact. They showed all the performers in a good light. I might have fainted when New Edition came up. Lol. I understood everything you said. No judgment here. Lol.

Well at least Mimi made the list. Lemonade is high on the list, deservedly so. I don't agree with Amy Winehouse being in the top ten, but oh well.

Licia, I finally saw the movie and yet it is hilarious, so much fun to watch. Besides performing at the end, Mariah is seen on an Essence fest poster early in the movie. I really want the soundtrack, do much goof music. I love the treatment to Bill Withers' Lovely Day. This is a very good look for Mimi.

My best guess is two coupled points: 1) I think another poster brought up this likely possibility when everyone first saw the shipping dates: the Pride t-shirts and other merchandise was a fly by night whim, thrown together last minute. 2) These are the same people who couldn't figure out the difference in time zones, in an age of a thriving google, so that they could arrive to the concert on time.

Does anyone know why it is taking so long to send them out? I got an email 2 weeks ago saying they will start to ship July 18 and still haven't heard anything. I find the whole thing odd.

Ha, I jest, I jest. I know what you mean. That sustained belt. I listened to that parked in a motorway service station last night in the pouring rain. I played it about 5 times before I drove off. I was reminded of listening to Mariah in my youth and feeling abject awe. Now, she shouts a lot in short bursts or sustains without resonance. I miss that. I miss the vibrato. the resonance. When she does it, it makes everything sound Mariah Carey again. Speaking for myself, I wish she could drop this "range" nonsense, and sing low and in the manner she used to sing. And I love you, honey. But you must admit, the ending of One Sweet Day is clunky. I find it quite draining to listen to, whilst submitting that it probably is a pop masterpiece.

If you'd read the article instead of dismissing it just because it doesn't say the light shines out of Mariah's Titty Grand Canyon, it says the list was compiled by 50 women. But I'm forced to agree in part with your post, in the sense that it is ludicrously unclear what "greatest" doth mean in this context. Best selling? Career defining? Importance in relation to the music genre? The music industry? Importance to the feminist movement? Reading through the accompanying commentary, I would say that it may be about its seminal importance. I would say that to music observers, Daydream helped shift the paradigm of the category in which Mariah sat, or, indeed, moved a new category into the mainstream. Butterfly would, in my estimation, be the career-defining album for the lambs as it was an album that acutely felt like it *meant something*, rather than just being a collection of awesome songs, sung really well. However, for career- and industry-defining for non-lambs, and thus, the world at large, The Emancipation of Mimi surely deserves the seminal status. I don't much appreciate the latter half of it. But as an album, a project, it defined 2005/6 because it re-crowned a queen who had lost her kingdom. It was an album that told women, nay everybody, that if you have it, you just have it;, that it doesn't matter how you fall, it's that you learn to get back up, that you never give in, that you must walk through shame or embarrassment with your head held high and silence your detractors. I can't think of another album by a woman that achieved such unexpected success in this manner. With an unparalleled level of success and an unparalleled downfall before its release, it is likely that sort of response to the mainstream music world that The Emancipation of Mimi was will not happen again within our lifetimes. Everything about that project was special. In terms of "greatness", I am not certain how any woman could not consider that album in the Top 10. Now I'm off to play E=MC2. "2008, watch it."

B, you should be able to download any music you upload or purchased from them as many times as you want. You should hover your mouse pointer over "Account and Lists", then on the right side scroll down and click on "Your Music Library", and from there you should be able to download your music. If you think you're having too much of a headache, and since I know you really bought the music because you're a fan, email me and I'll send them to you.

When you purchases albums and singles on Amazon are you only allowed to download them once? Because I recently had to purchase a new laptop and Amazon won't let me download Rainbow, Glitter and Slipping Away and Do You Think of Me and it's driving me insane. Without those albums and bsides my collection is incomplete. I still can't believe out of every Mariah album someone stole Rainbow and Glitter.

It was a smart decision and she's slaying that intro. I think her current vocals give Love Hangover a depth her pristine 90 vocals couldn't. Mariah's voice has changed but I think the years of wear and tear have made her a more expressive vocalist.

This is awesome. This sounds so much better without Boyz II Men. Personally think the song is a bit messy towards the end, especially live. There's way too much going on. And I'm not sure it has aged that well. Sounds very daytime TV now. I'm also not clear why you had tears in your eyes at 3:15. Did you cross your legs too quickly? It is quite awesome to listen too, however.

Re: Someday (new vocals) (77,417) (77,454)
by May from Denmark

I thought this was something hidden from the studios but it's just a mash up of instrumental and existing known vocals isolated plus an acapella version. Somehow the mix is so well done it sounds so fresh. Mariah should have recorded her last #1 to Infinity with all new vocals and arrangements and even make as bonus one or two into something whole new, like a jazz or salsa version, it would have been unexpected, lost chance. I was still hanging on the chance of having a proper HD quality live dvd of her Vegas show. When I hear these mixes I always think of that vault Prince had with videos and music no one even knew about except those who participated in it. What if there is this MC vault, so precious noone knows about, she did mention having written alternative and even rock songs. We had a bit of that taste with BOTH Charmbracelet. Mariah is versatile but for the public and what she gives us is so more of the same. Come on Mariah, give us fresh.

I had never heard this version. I love Boyz II Men but the Mariah only version is also so beautiful. Her voice on it makes me happy while listening to it. So much emotion and softness in one.
