Forgotten gem: The One (78,101) by Randy from USA So I'm actually talking to a dude that is not my type but like a fungus he's grown on me and I have to deal. Today I decided to dust off that old warhorse Charmbracelet. You know the MC album that Rolling Stone said had so many colors that merged together into a muddy color of brown. I remember that after the failure of the debut single Through The Rain, which is one of my favorite MC songs of all time, The One was planned as the next single. The fans made such an uproar that they went with Boy I Need You. At the time, I didn't like either, but I didn't feel like The One was a hit. Revisiting the song today, and maybe a little emotional because of my current state, this song is classic Mariah genius. As usual JD overstays his welcome at the beginning and I don't get the reason for the guitar instrumental break. But lyrically this is MC at her best. The breakneck pace of the lyrics and her wording is sick. Come on, y'all can't deny that countdown in the second verse. It proves once again no one can do what MC does. And don't forget the final whistle adlibs in the last hook. Yeah sometimes you have to dust off an old track when you get emotional. The One like so many MC songs was ahead of its time and couldn't be appreciated. (Friday 25 August 2017; 05:07)

I think Mariah's snippet is great and am hopeful the rest of it. The beat of the song is cool and their voices blend really well. I am hopeful the full versions sound as good. I'm not sitting here wishing and hoping Mariah's records get broken. I'm simply saying if/when it happens I'm not going to begrudge the artist their success (even if it is someone I'm not into musically). For me, it feels unkind and unnecessary. To each their own. The point is being missed if it is taken to mean people don't care about what Mariah has accomplished in her career. Mariah was at one time that artist dreaming of what it would be like to have her music be embraced too, and I wouldn't want to dampen that feeling for another artist just because they aren't Mariah. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable buying music from another artist (especially if I didn't even like the song or the artist) just to make sure Mariah isn't "dethroned." Unforgettable remix (78,090) by Jono from USA I had already loved the original track, so to hear that Mariah was joining forces (and maybe taking matters in to her own hands to save her #1 record ) made me ecstatic. And she delivers. Both the remix and acoustic remix are great; however because of the intentional Weeknd-like vocal effects, I think the remix version works better. So for those of us who still care about her OSD record, we have both this remix and Taylor Swift's new song to support this Friday. (Thursday 24 August 2017; 20:02)

Good to see the positive posts about the song from people who aren't afraid to be critical when needed. That's a huge plus. Deedre I agree about the OSD record. I'd love for her to keep that record, but somebody is bound to break it eventually. I bet a lot of people didn't think anyone would catch up to Elvis, but it happened. If it doesn't it won't be the end of the world. The obsession with the OSD record quite frankly borders on desturbing lol. There's so much more to Mariah than the OSD record. Rihanna does an excellent job in collaborating with the hottest acts in the biz and that's how she earned at least 5 of her #1s. I always wondered why on earth can't Mariah do the same. And now she did. I don't care if piggybacking on other tracks/artists' success is how she earns her hits these days, as long as it keeps her on the charts and introduces her to the new generation of music fans, then so be it. And if Stella had a hand in this, then I guess kudos to her for this act alone. It would be the smartest thing she has done even if it took way too long.
