I love when people quote the great Rodney King. I'm sure that never in his wildest dreams did he think that he would come up with such an iconic phrase much like "I have a dream" and "we shall overcome". Just kidding about it being as iconic, but it has lasted the test of two decades plus.

I missed all his so called Stella shade. Momma controls him too I suspect lol. Sadly all of this reminded me of the new MJ movie on lifetime. He died a sad, lonely cash poor, highly indebted shell of himself. Everybody wanted a piece of him and many had their claws imbedded into him. It is told from the perspective of his long time bodyguards, who became his paid friends and confidants. Although according to them, he owed them a lot of back pay.

She just lost her way. That's all, she's lost. It's too bad because whether it was just a cultivated image or not, I truly believed she cared about the music.

Some tend to say: "If the music is good, people will buy it", leaving out important factors like whether there is a connection between the fans and the artist or whether the artist is a jackass, an obnoxious diva or just a person perceived as arrogant. Mariah and Kanye come across as arrogant divas. Even though Mariah doesn't come as crazy as Kanye. Looking at Mariah's attitude from the 90's and most of the 2000's, we can see she was better respected and liked than the Circus Mariah we have today, and it is sad that everything has come to this. Barbra Streisand, different from Mariah, cultivated an audience that will follow her until the day she's no longer with us, but she did it with consistency all along and making sure her brand wasn't ever cheapened. Nobody can say she didn't take chances, because the woman basically did it all, having the following awards under her skirt: Grammy, Tony, Emmy, Oscar and Golden Globe. That tells us that by taking chances at doing different things, you don't have to cheapen your brand and reduce your career to that of a talentless reality tv star. I always thought Mariah would be like Barbra when her popularity wasn't there anymore, but I was dead wrong. Mariah's career/brand started falling apart when her focus switched from doing what she loved and getting money from it to doing whatever for money.

And that's what I believe is happening to Mariah at the moment. It's too bad she cannot see it. But I think a lot of times it has to do with a mental state of mind (ego) more then anything. That's why the ones that reach iconic status like MJ, Kanye, etc tend to fall off the deep end. The only mega superstar that I can see has kept her cool (didn't loose the plot) is Madonna. I don't know how she's managed to keep such a thick skin all these years. For a woman who built a career out of changing every two seconds, she sure has stayed the same in a grounded sense.

No, you are hypocrite, and completely transparent. Because someone you liked died, you now want everyone to play nice. You rarely say anything nice to anyone on this board, and are consistently the most negative about Mariah, other board members, and her fans. But because you say so, now the dynamic should change? Get out of here with that fake crap. Cry me a river full of your crocodile tears.

Hilton your posts are great. I do believe as you said that if Mariah wouldn't have changed her "formula" everything would look better for her. And even if the industry changed a lot, I'm sure more people (fans or let's say listeners from day one) would still buy a "Mariah album". It's funny that you mentioned Kanye West. I also loved the "College Dropout" and never cared about his personality. But if I hear a song now I just have to think what a strange/arrogant person he seems to be. So his music is very rarely played because of the dislike.

I'm just shocked that Shawn is even talking about his family. I unfollowed him a while ago because I thought he was rude. Does his Twitter bio still say that he doesn't talk about his family? If so he needs to go back to that and just hush.

On Twitter, someone asked what Demi Levato hadn't signed up, and her reply was, "Because I wasn't asked." So, possibly performers have been approached by the organizers and not the other way round? I guess Mariah could express interest, but there's no telling if that's happened behind closed doors.

By shading Stella do you mean what he said about how the person who leaked the news shouldn't have done that? Is he really shading her though? Last time when he went on a spree talking about how only he is loyal to Mariah, I thought it was shade, now I don't know. If true, I wonder if he ever spoke to MC about his feelings regarding Stella.

Thanks B for sharing. It's still unbelievable and makes me sad to watch. But I also think it's a nice gesture that Wendy Williams was explaining the audience why the chair is empty and that she talked about Martyn's plans.

The second part: Why 2009 and Obsessed are so significant. It hit me the other day. I used to love Kanye West, espeically during the College Drop Out/Late Registration eras. But in the last few years I haven't liked his public persona. I haven't bought his last three albums and don't care for the songs. Kanye the person rubs me the wrong way. Now I will always have a soft spot for those early songs (as I'm sure the public does with Mariah's early hits), but the more Kanye annoys me, even that taints his older songs in my eyes. Now to Mariah. She was one of the most brilliant pop stars of her generation. She would always craft a song not specifically about her but in a way that could relate to everyone. She didn't alienate with her lyrics. She knew that she had to take herself out of the equation so that the songs would become timeless. But since 2009 and Obsessed she's started to alienate with her persona (and her lyrics, the songs were more pointed towards her drama). Had she stayed the good girl who was just about the music I don't think she would be in any career mess right now. But she rubs people the wrong way and eventually it's going to affect her older material as well. When people hear the name Mariah, unfortunately they are just going to turn the channel. It's funny how you can tear down everything you once held dear just by trying to stay relavant. It's almost ironic.

I think the truth is money motivates Mariah. It always has. She was a poor kid growing up and music was a means to an ends. Had she been born rich there is no telling if she would've worked as hard or produced that sound and written those songs. Now that she is so rich she doesn't need music the same way she once did. She used to always say that she would feel that the rug would get pulled out from under her if she didn't continue to work hard. But now I think she realizes she is set for life. Mariah's musical career took a dip once the money wasn't there in music anymore, which was right around 2009 (when she went Gold). She tried one more attempt at cashing in with a second Chirstmas album but that didn't sell like the old days either. So she settled on an 18 million dollar reality TV show paycheck. (Something she swore she would never do in the past, but like the Virgin Records deal, money talks.) I will always wonder what would've been if she used Idol properly to promote MIAM. Maybe just maybe we wouldn't be down this road right now.

I was hoping that after Andrew posted that we should change the dynamic of this board to what it should be that people would slow down on the fighting but it wasn't even 24 hours after Martyn's passing and the claws were out. It may be of no use but I'm just asking if we can stop the fighting and make this board what it should be. Can we all just get along, in memory of Martyn?

You can't understand why I'm upset because I'm not upset. Annoyed yes but not upset. Just because someone points something out, it doesn't make them upset. I pointed out that they can't keep their stories straight and I stand by it. It's funny how you say that Shawn's now saying an album doesn't take 6 months to make because when he answered a previous fan's question about it he rudely told her "What part of 'just started recording' don't you like? Would you prefer a rushed album that isn't good?" So, which is it? No one misinterpreted anything Shawn said because there's no way to misinterpret what he said. He was going out of his way to make it seem like not much had been done for the album. Now, he's changing his story. I don't know how much Mariah has recorded or not recorded. I personally don't even care. I'm not putting a time constraint on what she does. My point is to bring up that I don't like the obvious flip flopping and toying that's going on. As far as the "relationship" and this supposed "leaker" and there being more to the story, that's highly doubtful. Shawn said they never broke up. The obvious has already been pointed out but I'll point it out again: 1) The most obvious: If they never broke up, where did Bryan go? This man had nothing better to do in life than follow Mariah around all day. I'm sure someone is going to hit me with some nonexistent job he was probably out doing though. Now he's back on the scene and unamazingly enough he still has nothing to do but follow her around. 2) Why was Mariah suddenly publicly and keenly hanging out with Nick? Including dinner just the two of them and his being invited to her launch party, especially right after the rumors of Bryan being jealous of him? 3) Why was she, out of nowhere, riding around in Nick's Rolls Royce? 4) How is it that she found the strength to, at least, remove the necklace, gifted to her by her ex-fiancé, that she had been rocking everywhere when she was supposedly in a relationship with Bryan, to hang out with Nick, her now ex-husband, and now that Bryan's resurfaced, she's again wearing it? 5) Besides the fact that those stories completely trashing Bryan originated from TMZ, Mariah and Stella's go to, who also completely trashed James Packer, while Mariah's piss poor rep could not be bothered to deny those stories, she certainly had no problem denying the story that Bryan was writing a tell all. Oh, but it wasn't because he's some great guy and wouldn't do such a thing but because he'd signed a confidentiality agreement. 6) Why did Mariah tell the TMZ cameras that she was enjoying being single? Any one else is free to believe what they want but I have to call BS. None of those actions speak of a woman in a relationship let alone one with Bryan. Feels more like the wool is trying to be pulled over our eyes, cheap and itchy at that.
