Have to agree with Andrew on this too. If we don't get the deep retrospective type song, I also am craving another It's Like That or Beautiful with more Mariah. That timeless different sound was so refreshing. I liked the freeness of Loving You Long Time and I'm That Chick. Meteorite was totally unexpected too. Something fresh and fun for the upsoming Spring/Summer months.

Ugh, if only. I think that's what a lot of us are really craving right now Randy. No offense but the rapper styled song has been so overdone and I'm ready for another Petals, UTS, Butterfly, Languishing, Close My Eyes, Reflections, Til The End Of Time, something...

Yess. I almost screamed with excitement to see someone mentioned "Miss You". I have no idea how "Boy" made the cut over "Miss you". This is a club banger. The chorus is amazing and the song goes so hard. The emotion in her voice paired with that beat is Mariah at her best.

I don't really enjoy seeing Mariah "shading" others, other than the classic moments of course. And the Demi Lovato question is probably my favourite Mariah shade ever. It's not even shade, only a mature and honest answer. On a side note, I'm also glad that she has formed a good relationship with Andy.

That's a good point. Very unlikely we'll hear anything like that for a while. But who knows? WBT was a massive surprise for all of us, especially because summer was just around the corner and what she had in her hands was a monster ballad. It's not like I Don't sold particularly well. All I've learned in 20 years of being a lamb is that Mariah will always do Mariah. I just hope she gives us the great Mariah once again.

Aside from "You Don't Know What To Do" which could have been pushed with considerable millions to become a global smash, "Cruise Control" is definitely on a par with how happy and professional it sounds. "Can't nobody, can't nobody tell me nuttin..." Genius. Darcy is right. "Faded" is boring rubbish. People want to party, not drown in smooth, slow R&B drivel. Mariah needs to take some friggin happy pills and put some life back into her career. No more Dreary nonsense. Come back and hit it with an upbeat party album or retire to the legends circuit. No longer convinced she has it in her. But which would I prefer? "2018. Watch it."

Singles mean? (73,743)

I just realized that the release of singles means we won't get an introspective ballad for awhile because she only releases these hip hop mid tempos with rappers. I need a Languishing, Petals, Right To Dream, Close My Eyes, Outside or Looking In in my life right now.

Mimi L., I am glad you found my comment amusing as it intended to be. "The sinking boat song" is indeed world famous but beyond shmaltz and has caused diabetes with many people across the globe. I do respect Céline Dion enormously as an artist and as a vocalist but she has much better songs, especially her French albums do agree with me. She is not a songwriter though.

There has been a lot of potential send straight to the bin over the last years. I believe "Meteorite" could have been a hit if accompanied by a great video and a pow club remix. Could have been a banger attracting new Mimionados. Should have opened MIAMTEC as well. I love "Cry" but I don't feel the potential to hit the charts. People these days do not care for reflection or insightful songs. Contemporary music has become very shallow and uninspired. Mariah is one of a dying species.

Wasted songs (73,739)

With a extremely vast catalog of songs in her catalog there are some songs that Mariah wasted major opportunities. Here are some that come to mind. "You don't know what to do" (MIAM). "Migrate" was definitely a moment (E=MC2). "Faded" a fan favorite (MIAM). "Underneath the stars" (Daydream). "Standing O" (MOAIA). "Cruise control" (E=MC2).

Yes Mara, that's me, I loved George Michael. My favourite type of Mariah songs are the haunting ones - Till The End Of Time, Everything Fades Away, Music Box, Vanishing, So Blessed, Petals etc. and in a modern day context, Camouflage (which I never noticed until 2014 is the most difficult word to spell ever ).

And I think it worked as a distraction. The song is good but I think Mariah believes in her duet with Busta more. With [...] she got the relationship off of her chest, which is good. We are the 17th. It's not the end of the month just yet. Mariah's birthday is on the 27th, get it?

I don't find it strange anymore that when they announce new music two things follow, a rush in the date and no promo/buzz. Someone will come out and say "single next week", then we get a fancy sexy picture and suddenly the one week anticipated single with a one live (if lucky) performance. Then see the buzz slowly dying a week after. Why this strange pattern, I don't know. They said the song was going to be available at the end of this month, it's the 17th already and not a peep. She had a good chance with "I don't" to push higher but she missed the chance or didn't care to chart or it was just as distraction from the NYE fiasco, which worked, no one talked about it anymore, only about her outfits in the video and why was the rapper wearing blue. All we know 100% is that she doesn't want to do an album just yet.

And You Don't Remember was meant to be the fourth single from Emotions but was canned when I'll Be There took off. I wish it had been as it's a beautiful song. The Roof and Breakdown should have got full worldwide single treatment and not limited releases. I loved Make It Look Good from the get go and think it should have been put out instead of You're Mine (Eternal). If We and The One were also amazing. Wish more people could have heard them.

Side Effects, You Don't Know What To Do (if promoted better without the divorce drama), Yours, and of course Faded. But yeah, E=MC2 could've had few more hits if Mariah didn't became spontaneous with Nick and took it slowly until the E=MC2 era ended, it really turned into waste especially with how massive the TEOM's success was. Wish she concentrated in the album first before she tied the knot and I think it is also part of the reason why MOIA became mediocre commercially. If she just took care of TEOM's success and planned out every move after 2006, she may easily snatched few more #1 singles and album.

I fully agree with you on Cry. It could have been the match that lit the fire under the album. Mariah at her most vulnerable. It could have matched Adele's amazing Hello. Almost every album since Butterfly has left me baffled by the single choices.

Never Forget You is a favorite. Her and Babyface writing together is a magical thing and they constructed Never Forget You beautifully. They made my life when they sang together on her Christmas special. I've always wanted them to sing together. Not just her on background vocals or him on background vocals. Although they didn't sing a song they created, I'll take it because that duet between them that I want may never happen.

At the risk of losing all of my messageboard lovers, I don't actually rate Faded. I think "Cry" was a missed opportunity. Currently on a champagne fueled Mariah shuffle. Presently enjoying "Never Forget You". I should snapchat this. If you're on it, I'm "dontcallmetoddy". Eric - keen to hear your thoughts about potential hits that never made it?

"Faded" from MIAM. That song had hit written all over it and actually stands out from the rest of the album. Even non fans and most people who have heard that song take an instant liking to it. Oh well, missed opportunity there. Another would be "Migrate" from E=MC2.

Butterfly (73,725)
by Mara from United States

I really hope Mariah doesn't waste this opportunity to "make the world remember" and perhaps introduce new fans to the masterpiece. If she doesn't recognize this masterpiece for what it is for its 20th anniversary I will feel she really missed out. No offense to MC but I doubt she will release another career defining album/moment like Thee Butterfly anytime soon, so please remind the world who you ar and what you indeed are capable of. On a side note: Do we think Stella owns a copy of Butterfly? Hmm, I wonder. Does Mishka know what Mariah is capable of? Mariah, LA, release a remastered copy of Butterfly, give unreleased material, raw material, unedited, whatever. But something with new packaging. Mariah, don't let this opportunity pass you by. This album is too damn good to not pay any attention to the anniversary of its greatness. It could literally still be played today and put all the "current" it people to shame. And I must say this, I wish there was a yearly or five year event of a gettogether of the MCA people. I so would attend that. MimiL, I would love to actually converse with you among others in person. Would be fun.
