Re: Celine Dion vs Mariah Carey (73,687) (73,691) by Musti from UK
I don't find either Barbra or Celine more talented than Mariah. I love both ladies but Mariah will forever be the (underappreciated) best. The thing with Barbra and Celine though is that they never made a noticeable change in their sound like Mariah did. Mariah progressively lost a chunk of her core album-buying audience after she went into R&B and hip hop. I'm not saying she did wrong. I personally prefer her post-97 catalogue to her earlier stuff when her voice was in its prime. But the audience is too untrained to care for that detail or the fact that her previous work was filled with R&B undertones. After the success of Funny Girl, Barbra started making more movies and OSTs in the 1970s and also went into pop briefly. This is the time she scored her 5 #1's. After that she went back to her core audience and started doing the classics again. At no point (as far as I know) was her image called into question. Same with Celine. With Mariah, it's not just the shift in her sound but also her image. I think the audience has more or less accepted Mariah as an R&B artist, most certainly since TEOM (although I still hear "I prefer the old Mariah" every now and then). But her image is destroying her, and I don't think it's the sexiness. It's the way she is going about expressing that sexiness. The uber-diva act too, of course. These are what Mariah needs to work on. Clearly recycling the same sound over and over again doesn't mean you will not be respected, although I would definitely like it if she were to try different sounds/concepts next time.

I enjoy both Mariah and Celine. Of course on any given day I'd choose Mariah's catalog over Celine, but I'll never diminish Celine's achievements or act like she's not one of the greats despite her not being the songwriter that Mariah is.

Most played MC song in iTunes (73,689) by Todd from Sydney, Australia
Curious to know - what's your most played MC song in iTunes (if you use it)? Mine is "The Art of Letting Go", followed by "Everything Fades Away". AIWFCIY is also up there which is fairly embarrassing. I'm forever being all "oh, I thought I'd taken all my Christmas music off my phone" when it's on shuffle.

Celine Dion outsung by Beyonce (73,688) by Sheila from United States
Beyonce is not even considered a great vocalist and when she sang the duet with Celine, Beyonce (with Destiny's Child) crushed her. Celine's voice is all smoke and mirrors, find a performance that is 100% live and prove her worth.

Mariah's got the waaaay better catalog for sure. The fact that she actually had a hand in the creative process makes it even more special. Celine's best albums (Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love) don't even hold a candle to any of Mariah's albums before 1999 and TEOM. I'm not being bitter (I own the both of the Celine albums I mentioned above and enjoy most of the songs) but both sets are also the epitome of MOR, which at the time, bode really well for sales. They were very polarizing to critics, and Falling Into You definitely did not deserve to win the Grammy for Album of the Year. In fact, it's in every list of undeserving AOTY winners out there. You can't compare that to Mariah's strong self-titled debut, much less Daydream or Butterfly, which was around the era FIY and LTAL was released.

Poke & Tone (The Trackmasters) (73,686) by Billy from Greece
If only MC would work with them again. I don't just adore the two tracks they've done with Mariah, but also all of the other productions they have done. They also produced a good chunk of Allure's first album back in the day, from Mariah's Crave label, remember? Such a timeless and mellow R&B vibe.

Celine Dion vs Mariah Carey (73,685) by Tameka walker from United states
I justice wanted to say that I agree with the latest post. When they say that Mariah have a better catalog. They both are talented singers but in my opinion Mariah is more talented because she writes and produces. Mariah is a very prolific songwriter. I love Mariah's songs. Now her image has taken a beaten because of her management. However Mariah Carey will always be my number one artist. Her phenomenal music has gotten me some very difficult times in my life. I would love to be able to see her live. That is my ultimate goal in to see her live this summer.

In their peak, Mariah had the better voice, but Mariah's peak was from 1990 to 1996, she gave us 6 years of a voice out of this world [censored]. While Celine Dion has been consistently great, maybe now as many say she lip syncs certain high notes, but she her singing voice has only deteriorated by 10-15% [censored] which is fair enough, all she needs to do is change the keys, as she still has a beautiful lower tones.

Celine Dion writes no music (73,683) by Ty from USA
"Because you love me", "Have you ever been in love" are the only original songs I feel her on. She barely speaks English so her emoting seems forced and faked to me. Mariah is a songwriter and her b-sides sound dark and emotive. Celine can't touch her.

Yeah, Celine is a great singer but (73,681) by Special K from USA
She just alright to me. Yeah, Celine got a great voice and has had much success but that chick has never released a song that has shook a sista the way Mariah has over and over again. I get that Celine is more respected than Mariah is in the present, however, whenever Mariah gets her head out of her ass and realizes her image is shot the hell up, she will finally surround herself with the right management team that can help her with her image and regain more respect from the general public, including some of her fans. And Mariah's catalog, my goodness that catalog. Celine's catalog ain't no where near on the same level as Mariah's in my opinion. Ok, it's now time to roll Celine's ass off of MCA.

Celion Delion (73,680) by Andrew from UK
To state that Mariah is more talented than Celine is a bit of an (intentionally) vague statement. Celine can't write music, no. Celine doesn't produce music, no. But she can sure as hell sing the shit out of it, still. This current fatigue of "Celine lipsyncs almost everything" is lambs clutching at straws. It is a realignment of the truth to fit a purpose. Many people lipsync. To use it to lessen the mess Mariah has put herself in with regard to lipsync is laughable. No Celine doesn't write and produce music. But in a speech she made recently she said of her late husband, "He always surrounded me with the best people." It was a wonderfully romantic statement. That her doting husband would be on the phone demanding the best songs, the best producers, the best marketing for his wife and her globally respected voice and brand was heart-warming, and made their now eternal separation all the more thought-provoking. "This one's for you Rene, the show must go on." What do we have? "This ones for you, James, I kept the ring." Is Mariah a better singer than Celine? No. Mariah has, to me, the better back catalogue, and a tone that makes sense to the ears. Sometimes in Celine's songs I have to skip because the excess of sentiment becomes a bit cringe. But Celine is a f**king brilliant singer and could sing Mariah out of the water in 1998 and 2018. And she hasn't ruined her own brand by acting like a vapid idiot. I will say, though, that I'm almost certain around 1994/95 I read a quote from Celine saying that Mariah was a better singer, way back then. So humble is she. And, thus, likeable. In fact, reminded now of the Kathy Griffin sketch of how Celine Dion walks out to the crowd with a shocked look every time and points to everyone like she didn't expect them to be there: "Rene? What if tonight is the night... they do not come?" She's loved the world over. Mariah, sadly, no longer is. But I'll listen to Mariah songs over Celine songs any day of the week, and twice on those twice-Tuesdays. And Mariah didn't do a bad job of selling out the UK venues. So there's still an appetite. Even it is an appetite for days long since past.

I saw this on Bossip. I hadn't heard or seen anything else from any other blog or new site. All Bossip did was quote what OK magazine said. I would think that if they had a fight at an awards show this would be everywhere.

Re: Celine Dion lipsings and it's ok? (73,670) (73,678) by Edward from USA
Exactly my thoughts. I think that Mariah's brand has been cheapened a lot. There was a sense of mystery about Mariah that kept us with some level of intrigue. Even when Nick had diarrhea of the mouth about their sex life, she would be so classy when she was asked about it. She went head to head with Eminem with her music, but never talked much about it. During American Idol she upped her diva persona, and everything has been downhill from there. She doesn't seem to understand that the way she's perceived is important to her success as an artist and for her brand. She doesn't have to be fake, but she doesn't have to be too much out there either. Saying she was foiled was a terrible mistake, especially coming from her own mouth. If she was foiled, she should prove it. If you can't, she shouldn't have said anything. Let your girlfriend do the talking.

Lee Daniel is not one of her employees, that's why she might get mad, but then get over it and see the true friend in him. He doesn't seem to care much either, it's not like his livelihood is going to be affected by Mariah throwing a tantrum. At the end of the day, I think she benefits more from him and what he does from her, lol.

Lol I read about that story and immediately thought Stella leaked it. Maybe she leaks, then debunks. Most fans really just want Mariah and family to be OK, nobody really cares about Stella and her "heroics".

Article: Mariah and Nick did not argue at Kids' Choice Awards (73,672) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Most of the stories that are being "debunked" are ones I have not even heard about before they were "debunked". Like I think the all the recent stories in which we got Stella's response and all like "Mariah supposedly feuding with Joe Jonas" (out of all people), "Mariah is marrying Tanaka", "Mariah did not have sex at a restaurant toilet" are stories that I never came across until Gossip Cop "debunked" it with quotes from Stella. No one was even talking about these, not even Wendy haha, so why even bother responding? The only one that was worth responding to was the "Mariah is getting dropped by the label" one (if only Stella could stop being trashy for one and act like an educated professional). I don't get why she's responding to these weird stories that people never even heard about.

Licia, I thought it was only me. I see myself repeating that verse so many time, thank God MP3 don't get scratched like CD's do, lol. The sense of urgency until she gets to that last word and boom, it's epic. I can only compare it to what she does with Melt Away after takes the word Mine, stretches it for like 20 loving minutes and then boom, she explodes giving us a few seconds of ear-gasms. Oops, I'm not trying to make ear-gasm happened, sorry, I just didn't know how to express it.

Re: Celine Dion lipsings and it's ok? (73,651) (73,670) by Malcolm from Asia
Commercial success doesn't equates respect. Celine is very much respected, she may not be as talented as Mariah but she knows how to put on the work and how to care of her reputation and credibility very well. When her husband/long-time manager died, she's still aware on how to protect her brand and what direction she will take and sadly that's what Mariah is lacking, because of her own decisions, look at what happened. Even Jennifer Lopez is much more celebrated now compared to her.

Re: Alone in love (73,664) (73,667) by Edward from USA
I've always loved "Alone In Love". It's one of the songs I always repeat from her debut album. This is my favorite part:
"Sitting in the dark without you
How am I supposed to make it through the night
Slowly fall apart without you
Cry away the hours 'till the morning light"
What she does vocally with the word "light" has always been a delight for me.
