I agree with you 100%. If Celine weren't respected in America, she wouldn't be as successful in Vegas or when she goes on tour. She might not be an artist of the moment, but she's actually very well liked here. She's gracious, she's fun, she's always real on her interviews. I've never heard her say anything bad about anybody. She's a strong woman who has been in the business for 36 years, and she's still here. She definitely is loved just like Streisand is loved. Hits don't necessarily have anything to do with respect. You might have them or not and still be respected. Aretha Franklyn, Patti LaBelle, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand and many others are respected and I don't remember when was the last time they had a hit.

Alone in love (73,664)

I love how Mariah gets praised for this song on YouTube. I didn't know that she wrote this magical song with only 15. What Mariah did musically on her debut and Emotions is out of this world. This is something Celine Dion and other female artists will never come close to. Also Celine is great, I have a best of which I like a lot. But no comparison to Miss Mariah Carey. Sometimes I think she was so young when she "delivered" such classy masterpieces that in some way it's impossible to outgo herself and even to hold the standard that she set for herself on so many levels for a long time.

I'm again in love with this song. Thanks for mentioning the remix. I only knew the a capella version. This music and the way Mariah was singing it (like an angel) made me a fan forever. I wonder if she really knows how many hearts she has had touched back in the day. As someone said before, almost everybody loved the "American sweetheart". Not only fans. I'm gonna listen to it on repeat, perfect for daydreaming at those strange times.

First the date was postponed and now it's been canceled and my money was refunded. I'm disappointed but at least I was able to attend the second night of her Las Vegas residency. Which just so happened to be the night they filmed the Infinity video.

Mariah's problem is the endless calculations that go in her head with her every single effing move as to whether she looks good. Every angle, every step, every freaking move she makes, she wants to look beautiful. I think she looks her best when she's on stage in her element singing her heart out. But clearly she doesn't like the way she looks even when she sings.

The year of Celine's last hit has nothing to do with the public's respect for her. I, for one, have not heard nor seen any articles or comments that would suggest that Celine Dion is disrespected in America. Regardless of when her last hit was, most, if not all, give her credit for her talent, believe she is talented, like that she's stayed strong after her husband's death and continues to raise their three children, like/love her style, her Vegas shows have been highly successful, and the list goes on. While her music may not always be their taste, they have no reason to dislike or disrespect Celine.

The point is Mariah also praised Rihanna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Britney during the interview, she said Britney is a nice girl, she heard Beyonce's Lemonade and she loved it. The female artists that she shades or just don't know are Ariana, JLo, Nicki and Demi, who shade Mariah first. I think it's okay that you needn't to say nice things to every artist in music industy.

Celine isn't respected in the US. Her last hit was That's The Way It Is the early 2000's. Mariah's last hit was in 2013. I Don't in a month has almost as many views as Infinity and You're Mine (Eternal) combined which means the public is becoming more receptive to her. If she can make a comeback after Glitter she can surely make a comeback after Mariah's World and Stella's dictatorship.

Celine's voice is nothing like Mariah's, neither is her delivery which is why her voice is in better shape than Mariah's. Celine lips just as much as Mariah, she just takes it more seriously. Mariah knows how to lip so the only justification for her poor flipping is self sabotage.

Andrew, as I said I don't see anything wrong with her being an obviously admitted cemented lesbian. I just find it contradictory that she uses sex orientation to shame other people here, instead of attacking that which she complains about. She has referred to some guys here using female epithets, as if that would add anything to validate her argument. One thing I wouldn't ever do, no matter how thuggy is or comes across, is call her a "Dyke", that would be very inappropriate and offensive, not to her, but to all other great, nice, and loving lesbians out there in the world who can have a decent arguments without resorting to shaming people based on what they like sexually. You don't have to be gay or straight to be an asshole or a jerk. They all come in different colors, shapes, forms and sexual orientations. I'm disappointed in you because you don't seem to know the possible negative effect it had on her when you accused her of desperately and anxiously envying having a penis so she could feel complete. That was hitting below the belt, or should I say below the skirt. Peace.

Laughable. How many memos went through the doors of the public to pitch them against Mariah? Or maybe, just maybe, it was Mariah's behaviour, the direction he went personally and professionally, that made the people who liked and respected her leave her in droves. She did not get a hard deal. She got a better deal than probably any music artist that has ever lived. Lamb contrivance is quite laughable.

I agree with you 100%. Absolutely on the lip/dub game. I also think "Infinity", "Why You Mad", and "Infamous" are at the bottom of the barrel with regards to quality. However "I Don't" is pretty darn good, even up there with "Beautiful" imho.

Tameka, most people love an underdog and a comeback like TEOM, but compare Mariah's attitude during TEOM and E=MC2 to her attitude now and you'll get your answer as to why the general public can't stand her. Mariah was America's sweetheart until her ego got to her head and she started coming off as arrogant and full of herself, and on top of that not delivering. Everything is in the perception. All those millions Mariah sold weren't bought by her die hard fans alone, they were bought mostly by the general public. We did our part, but if they hadn't come on-board, she wouldn't have had the impact that she had. Jennifer can't be compared to Mariah, but while she comes across as sweet and likable, Mariah comes across as shady and catty. I don't see anything wrong with being unapologetic, but you also need to be ready for what comes next. Let's say Rihanna, she's portrayed as a bad ass, but when she's on an interview, she's grounded, fun, and always praises Mariah as her inspiration. Mariah on the other hand, when asked about most female artists, she would say she hasn't heard their music, even when it's almost impossible not to have listened to a monster song like "Hello" from Adele. I think it's time we started holding Mariah responsible for what her career has turned into.

The lipping game showdown (73,641) (73,643)
by Edward from USA
| |

I don't think there's a double standard. When an artist of Mariah's caliber puts herself out there for the whole nation or world to see, she simply has to make an effort and do things right or just don't it. Mariah has dubbed and lipped many performances from the 90's, but she did it convincingly. I guess most people don't have problem with singers lipping a song or two or the most difficult parts, they're only human, the key here is about consistency, especially when the only thing you got to offer is your voice. Celine lips on shows and tours, but when she takes a microphone for a live performance whether it is a tribute or a casual performance, she delivers (all caps) every time, Mariah doesn't. After we heavily complained how bad Mariah was at lipping, somebody took note and all of a sudden Mariah stopped spinning like a whipping top covering her face with her arm when she was about to enter into lipping mode, and she started putting a little bit more effort into her lipping game. I've been to her Christmas show two times at Beacon Theater, and she has upped her lipping game to a point where from the audience, unless you're looking to pick apart her performances, everything looks and sounds live. Between Celine and Mariah, as much as I love Celine, I would take Mariah any day, Mariah is not only what Celine is, a vocalist, Mariah is a lyricist, a vocalist, a producer. She's (all caps) a musical genius. She's been heavily promoted as "The Voice", "Best Selling Female Artist of all time", and "The one with the most #1's", so people clearly expect that which they promote her as, consistency on her vocal delivery in occasional live shows. She did a good job on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but does she have to fall on her ass before we witness some decent performance coming from her? Mariah's biggest mistake was not taking care of her instrument, and now she's facing the consequences. People shouldn't be blamed for wanting more Daydream, Butterfly or TEOM quality in her music, she used to sell a product with a certain level of quality, why should people settle for less? I hope that now that she's releasing singles, she focuses on quality rather than chasing the next hit. Songs like "Almost Home", "Help Me Make It (Through The Night)", "My Love", "100%", and "Andy's Theme" can sit pretty with Mariah's body of work. But would you put "Infinity", "Why You Mad", "Infamous", and "I Don't" even 2 miles away from her epic music? (all caps) I don't effing think so.

Ty I would have to agree with you. J love dresses like a skank and the public says it's sexy. When Mariah does it they say she is too old to be dressing like that. It is a double standard if one looks at it. Then I agree with you about what you said about Celine Dion. It just seems the public likes to tear Mariah down. I look at Britney Spears, she shaved her head and had a break down. The public was forgiving of her, why can't we the same for Mariah? In my personal opinion I feel as though she more talent and it's like she said she is the only one who have to have 5 million comebacks.
