Tribute concert (75,780)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
Ariana is coming back to Manchester to spend some time with her fans and play a tribute concert to raise funds for the families of the victims. This girl has gone right up in my estimation.

Had it been a "sources said" story I would have said maybe it's made up, but since her co-star gave that quote, I don't think it's going to be false. I don't get why she would take up a singing role and then say she won't sing?

Next in line - beauty products? (75,777)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
So according to Page Six, MC and SB are planning on opening a beauty company which will feature make up, skin care and fragrances. Now while I think the beauty and skin care goes hand in hand with Mariah, since she has flawless skin, there are several things that are wrong with this move. 1) Why on earth would Mariah have yet another partnership with Stella? They already have a production house together, next thing you know Stella will be the executive producer of her next album, and like some other lamb pointed out on UK Mix, by the time Mariah realizes what a piece of garbage Stella is, Stella will be entitled to 50% of Mariah's property and have custody of Roc and Roe haha. 2) Stella cannot blend her blush/contour, the last time she highlighted she looked like she got hit by a glitter wall, she is a walking talking Oompa Loompa that can give Trump a run for his money/orange skin, and her whole makeup is a muddy mess and she looks like someone who hasn't showered in years. Who would want to buy beauty products from her? Seriously Stella doesn't know the difference between a contour powder/cream and mud. 3) And this is a more practical concern, why would they straight up open a shop and not test the market first? I mean most independent makeup companies now (Kat Von D, Too Faced, heck even Kylie) first release a limited range of products online first, test out the demand, then they will add to the range but still keep it strictly online, then they test out pop up stores and finally if there is enough demand they either first try selling at Sephora and then think about going for their own stores. Is Mariah going by her success of the MAC line by taking such a big step because that will be a mistake. The MAC line didn't only sell out for her own name. First of all MAC in itself is a well established brand, second the packaging was the main selling point especially the lipstick bullets and the bronzer with her face, third some people like collecting makeup and this was a perfect collector's item as it was the best packaging MAC ever had. I own a lot of the products from that line and I can say that the stuff she released won't work for many people. So I don't know why on earth she's making such a big investment without testing it out.

Article: Mariah Carey slammed for her "bananas" behaviour (75,776)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|

If this is true, I don't know anymore. I think it's the lack of communication between both parties and knowing Mariah's team, it's really possible. But then again it will always comes down to Mariah, just being 4 hours late is foul. Enough with the "diva" bullshit because it will come a time that no one will want to have her or be affiliated with. Tsk.

Re: Mariah Carey, debut album (75,767) (75,774)

It is still one of my favourites and I believe it's one of her finest works with Daydream and Butterfly. This is the album that really turned me into a fan (11 years later after its release haha) and I think it's one of those I can play without skipping any track. Some songs sound dated (All In Your Mind, Someday) but that's exactly the sound I look for when I go to listen to songs from that musical period. I know Mariah doesn't like I Don't Wanna Cry but in my opinion it's one of her best vocal performances in her entire career. It also bothers me her current atitude and her recent superficial comments about the debut era because I see it like Mariah Carey at her best. When I saw the short clips from #1 To Infinity rambling about the hair and the videos from the early days I just thought "This is all you have to say about these masterpieces?" I'm fed up about the Mary Poppins comments too, because there are lots of pictures and videos from 1990 to 1996 that prove the opposite. It bothers me that she only sings Vision Of Love from her debut, because there are so many great songs in this record that she could rearrange and sing in an easier way (Vanishing, Alone In Love, Sent From Up Above). I can understand that with her current voice she's afraid of singing these songs but for God sake, she's been singing the same songs for decades now. It's time to be brave, take risks, and revisit your huge catalogue Mariah. No one expects you to sing like in your prime but please, stop talking about "surprises" when you go on tour and talking about fan favourites and start singing them. Enough of the number ones. Go for "The wind", "Sent from up above", "To be around you", "Melt away" and those songs you never did live.

Re: Daydream (75,770) (75,772)

Daydream is a snooze I'm sorry. The only songs I listen to are UTS, IAF and Long Ago. Her voice is just so light, high pitched and honestly too perfect. I think there is a lack of soul and emotion in this album. The soul of the Emotion and TEOM trumps Daydream any day. Heck even Music Box had more soulful songs (Everything Fades Away/Never Forget You). Daydream is just a pretty album in my opinion with pop songs. So ironic that Mariah's best vocal period had the biggest disconnect for me emotionally.

It was an impressive debut. It heralded the arrival of the newest diva. Some of the songs sound dated and others sound timeless. Mariah needs to go back to writing timeless songs instead of dumbing down her lyrics and using slang to appear hip to the tweens Stella has her targeting.

Lyrically, I prefer Butterfly. Vocally, I prefer Daydream although I enjoyed her experimentation with her voice on Butterfly. TEOM has several classics but Daydream and Butterfly are classics through and through.

I actually prefer Butterfly over Daydream, and consider it a better album overall, but saying TEOM is a better album than Daydream is delulant.

No I beg to differ, a lyric soprano and a spinto soprano are two very different voices. The term "spinto" is what's referring to a pushed sound. So when someone is classified a lyric - spinto she has the ability to push and cut through loud orchestration or in modern times, loud music, although it's not advisable because she's not a true spinto. Mariah isn't a light lyric spinto that would be someone like say Ariana, Jessie J or Cheryl Gamble (Coko), her voice is much thicker than those three and has a heft to it. Celine isn't a spinto at all, she's a lyric. Listen to Licia's favorite song "Infinity" (hehe) her voice cuts through on the "dream" part or "Fly like a bird" (her voice is pushed on the "survive" part) and the final belt in "The art of letting go". That's a lyric-spinto. Coloratura just means agile. . Christina is metallic in her belts, too metallic if anything. A mezzo would be Beyoncé and Shirley Caesar.

Exactly my point. Yes her voice was still smooth and the tone pretty much the same, but the quality was diminishing. I still love that album, especially those songs you mentioned. "Fantasy", "Underneath the stars", "Always be my baby", "Melt Away " and " One Sweet Day".

Daydream (75,761)

For me Daydream is a nice blend of pop, R&B and AC with Mariah's voice taking center stage and oh so smooth like butter. This was the begging of her growth and transition as an artist with her full transition coming coming with Butterfly both of these albums represent something special for me for different reasons and I can honestly say are my favorite two MC albums ever.

"Daydream" is cute and all but "Butterfly" is freaking perfection. That album, the songs, the lyrics, the cover art, the videos, no flaws. The only song I skip on that album is TBO, I know it's a fan favorite, but I just never liked it.

That you did it was great; that you tried to claim some glory for it was not. But if it resulted in Mariah knowing that Martyn was a lamb then that's awesome. What wasn't awesome was your silly drunken rant taking a pot shot at me when you know I'm pretty cut up, like some other people, of the hideous manner in which Martyn died. That drunken rambling post about you and some soft porn Titty Caca fancying the Prince William is somewhat of a disgrace and steeped in irony, and whereas before I thought of you just as someone with idiotic opinions now I find you to be incredibly immature. As a result, I promise not to acknowledge your presence if you will not acknowledge mine. Don't reply to me please and don't mention my name. Just go away.
