She left her polyps and nodules at home (72,763)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Step by step, but on the way there. I don't really care whether she stood there or jumped up and down. When it comes to performing, I care about what she's always been known for, her voice. Let's give the woman a break and focus on the fact that she delivered vocally. Yes, the song is not that demanding, but isn't that we we've been asking for, a song that she could replicate live? We all know she can definitely do better, but let's not be too harsh on her when she might be trying to get things right. There's a difference between being delusional (thinking that she messes up on occasional performances due to polyps and nodules), and being realistic given recent events. At this point, I'd rather she crafts a great song lyrically and delivers it with conviction rather than having a song so demanding vocally that she would have to rely heavily on background tracks and singers. We would be delusional to say Mariah's voice is in top form, but we all know she could be consistent should she take care of her voice and write great lyrics. At this point it is not how powerful her voice is, but about whether she makes good of use of what she has left, and she did that with "I Don't" at Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Jimmy and Grammys (72,762)
by Nikki from usa

Well done MC. Slay queen. Ride that horse. As for the Grammys let me point out a few things. 1. Album of the Year isn't based off sales. The Grammys have always favored rock music and rock bands, especially U2, who frequently win that category whether their music sells or not. Mariah Carey's Emancipation was the best selling album of 2005. You can look it up, that's a fact. She did not win album of the year despite her success and broken records in 2005. 2. I would certainly hope JLP sold more copies since it was released in June that year while Mariah's was released in October. Mariah's rate of sale was much higher than Alanis's was for that year. Mariah caught up quick which was noteworthy even if JLP won the end game. 3. Mariah's Daydream also broke records. It changed the face of pop music forever which is still ongoing today. Jagged Little Pill was a good album, but wasn't groundbreaking the way Daydream was. MC still holds the record for most albums sold in a non debut week when Daydream sold over 800,000 copies in a single week.

I Don't on Kimmel (72,761)
by Lee from UK

I think the performance was boring because "I Don't" is just a boring song. For what it was though, Mariah sang well. Perhaps I am suspicious person but I have a feeling that a backing track of pre-recorded vocals were being played over the "'cause when you love someone, you just don't treat them bad" sections. Even if it is not true and the whole performance was 100% Mariah singing, you can't blame me for the doubt.

Mariah and Fresh Air Fund (72,760)

I just love this funny and sweet interview with Rosie O'Donnell back in 96 or early 97. Does anybody know if the "Fresh Air Fund" is still there? Mariah and Jack at the end of the video makes me laugh every time. So adorable.

I agree with you Jimmy. Still, I am going to need Mariah to do just a little bit more on stage. She should just pretend she's an actress while she's on stage and play the role of an energetic performer.

Mariah almost knocked over cake while drinking (72,758)

This did happen to Britney Spears during the Blackout era. She was drunk and had to be held up by an assistant and Sam Lufti while celebrating her birthday back in 07. Slow new day, I guess.

Jimmy (72,757)
by Will from England

Jeez, can't give her a break can you? When she finally pulls off a good performance on TV, and looks great, you call it boring because she stood still (I didn't see Adele running around during Hello at the Grammys yet people are calling it a good performance). When she has a train wreck performance, but had dancers, she was moving around the stage, feathers, you focus on her lipping/questioning her singing ability. People have been asking for a simple performance of her just singing, and she did just that. Yet people are never satisfied anymore. What's wrong with just standing still? Of course she would be nervous, considering what happened during the last performance. Anyone would. She ad-libbed nicely, sang the song without gimmicks, and ditched that gold mic at long last.

I Don't live (72,756)

Mariah did a great job. She sounded just like the record actually better. She seemed a little nervous but the more she performs this song it will be even better, just like with Infinity after a few performances of singing it like here.

"I Don't" live (72,755)

When Mariah delivers, it should be noted and appreciated. She seems to be she needed to fall hard in other for change to start taking place. I just she continues building up from there to what we know she's capable of. The vocals were too clear and true to the studio version, that I thought for a moment she was lipping, but she wasn't. Kudos to you Mariah. We're here waiting for more.

Thanks Billy this was a really nice compilation. I especially liked the back to back footage of Mariah and Aretha singing "Don't Play That Song". It's also way the "reality" aspects of Mariah's World have been such a turn off for me. It's so unnecessary to feed the "mean" reputation. It's not her.

Kimmel performance (72,752)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|

She sounded stellar. I like this live version way better than the studio version, especially since YG didn't put on that fake southern-accent rap that he did on the track. I want this to go viral. Her good performances need to finally start getting attention instead of just the disasters. I hope she performs this song on more mainstream shows. Maybe Ellen or, as much as I can't stand her, Wendy? If she went on Wendy I definitely think that interview/performance would boost the song on the charts.

I don't love that outfit (72,750)
by Liz Archer from Sweden

Am I the only one that are not loving her style these days? I miss the simple jeans and a proper top which doesn't completely show her very large chest area. I know it's silly of me to care about those things, but I very rarely say I would wear this. And this is not just Mariah, there seem to be a trend among many and I am just not loving it.

I agree just a little boring. She sounded ok though. The moments with YG were awkward, he was moving funny and she barely moved. That is kind of why I was just hoping for a fun parody moment including Jimmy. She gave it a good try though.

I enjoyed the performance. Mariah was nervous but she slayed. I liked Mariah's interactions with YG. I think the performance needed more YG. He's caused quite the controversy in the comment section.

I can't believe people are still mad and are still talking about the NYE performance. It's almost March. It happened. It's over with. You'd have to be a certified psycho to do all that over a performance.

The only negative from this performance was it was a little boring. I'm not sure whether it was the minimal movement or the song itself that bored me. Other than that she sounded good and she looked good. She gave me vocals which was what I mostly wanted.

Honestly if people are going to verbally abuse Mariah and try to harass her for a failed performance than the problem is the people not Mariah. People are so extra hostile nowadays, I read that when she went to the game after Kimmel someone tried to throw something at Mariah but was arrested. This is absurd and not acceptable. Unless she personally attacked these people, they have no right to harass her by cursing at her or worse throwing stuff at her. Why are they so hostile over a performance, you'd think she slapped their kid or something.

I Don't on Kimmel (72,740)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|

I was kinda worried how she would translate this song live, seeing as it's a song that doesn't really have a distinct catchy chorus and melody line the audience could sing along with. It's one thing singing in the studio but then another when it's time to present live. But I was pleasantly surprised she nailed it. It's better than the studio cut. Her voice was in good form especially her chest tones very firm, dark and smooth. And the cackle when YG was doing his verse made me cackle too. Lol.

Yeah, some women can pull off heavier makeup and some can't. Mariah's one that can't for the most part. She has moments but overall it's more flattering when she wears light make up or just none. Mariah always looks best with light make up or none at all. Now, if she's just put on some good outfits. Mariah, just quit with the Tonka Toy nonsense. At the end of the day, what you'll never be able to fake, and we have Mariah's World to back us up, is an actual connection with this man. Even, in these pics, all I get is major friend zone.
