Re: Celine doesn't deserve an apology (73,842) (73,850)
by Randy from USA

This board is so sick of this topic but I'm gonna chime in for the millionth time. Aretha said "come on out here with me" and "would you be so bold" so Celine in essence said "Ima do you cause these other girls will just sit in the background and fade". Mariah tried to sing and sounded a raspy strained mess. So Celine came out and went toe to toe with a serious Aretha Franklin. And that was not a tribute to her. That was the first Divas and Aretha was the veteran. They didn't use the moniker of a tribute to until 2000 when they gave Diana Ross a tribute. And Aretha did get a Divas tribute in 2002. That night was the first time I was embarrassed as a Mariah Carey fan.

I will be honest and probably I will be thrown some tomatoes over here haha, but I find his music to be incredibly, utterly boring. I swear I tried to like him, I listened to a bunch and I couldn't get into a single one of them. I don't understand what's the appeal, is it the lyrics? I find some of his lyrics to be like a storytelling which was nice but I can't get past that when everything sounds so bleak. Then I think to myself, if his music is so simple and the guy himself looks like an every other day guy that you can find at a supermarket, how come Mariah or some others can't actually put anything out there that people might like? Is it really the age? Why Ed doesn't have to wear a catsuit but all other female singers currenntly do.

Universal Studios animated films are all incredibly successful and their animations are really amazing, some of the animators and concept artists that have worked for Universal have worked for Pixar too. I believe her animated movie will be great just because of this, something tells me it might even have a lot of humor in it. The only thing that makes me doubt it will be a major hit is that it will be direct for DVD and not big screen, which is a shame, she is the queen of Christmas after all, surely she could promote the movie just on this alone.

Year round Christmas (73,847)
by Todd from Melbourne, Australia
| |
|
|
Now, I love Christmas. And I love Mariah Carey. Sidenote: Not sure which was first, it's a chicken or egg situation. But advertising something like this at the end of March suggests very much a 'Mariah's World' where she's maybe been told by her minders that "Everybody loves Christmas all year round. It's not just you. Go on wit' yo bad self." I'm still trying to avoid my credit card bill from Christmas just gone.

Article: Mariah is turning "All I Want" into an animated movie (73,846)
by Matthew from USA
| |
|
|
She's said before that she's not inspired by the new music coming out today, so I guess that's why all her new projects seem to be based on past glories. I'm still holding out hope that something current will inspire her. But it has to get through her bubble first. If any requests or new ideas have to go through Stella first, and if she really is playing her own music at restaurants, then it's going to be really hard for her to get inspired by anything new. I was slightly alarmed when MC appeared on the Breakfast Club and admitted she hadn't ever heard Beyonce's Drunk in Love. It's never a good thing when an artist doesn't have a clue what sounds are popular in her own genre of music, and I believe that started before Stella. I think MC is just a really sensitive soul who wants to be surrounded by happiness and not negativity or criticism. That's not the real world, but Mariah has the type of money where she doesn't really have to live in the real world and face the criticism, unless it's overwhelming like the NYE debacle. She has the money to make everything festive, and she has the people around her who are willing to pitch in. I can't be too mad, maybe I would do the same if I could afford it.

I really wished Mariah would've chosen Disney Pixar to produce and make the movie. Every Pixar movie ever made is so beautiful and meaningful (I always bawl my eyes out on their movies, especially Inside Out and Up), plus their movies are known to have a wide appeal from children to adults. Mariah would get a guaranteed critical and commercial hit if she goes with Pixar to do the movie.

Actually, I wasn't trying to rip on Mariah on that one. Mariah put that residency together herself when she had no label, team, or publicist. Everything involving it was completely done by Vegas. However, they didn't have anyone to work with when Mariah didn't have a team to contribute. MC's no publicist or event coordinator, I think she could only come up with those two ideas. I don't think she was lazy I think she was out of her depth. Mariah had a new publishing group to represent her about 3 months afterward and publicly announced it. I just assumed she'd have them come in and spruce things up a bit at some point was all. Those websites all have a format, so I don't know why Mariah's the only one that's different and basic, especially since she has a label now who used that residency to promo new music.

Clearly, MC's the youngest of 3 brothers. Doesn't that just explain everything? That's how she hits all them low notes. Mottola keeps taking credit for her music because he's the one who was there religiously to kick her in the nuts so she could hit those high notes.

Celine doesn't deserve an apology (73,842)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Celine should've. Mariah was right and not alone. That night was a tribute to Aretha Franklin. Those were all Aretha's hit songs they were singing when they weren't advertising their own, and that is exactly how it was advertised. You don't try to outsing a legend of decades on their own hit song. That's beyond rude, it's pompous and arrogant. What's worse is she did it twice. First, with Carole who wrote the song and decided she was going to sing her verse for her. Then, at the end when Aretha's taking turns passing the torch Celine decided to take it as a competition. There's a reason why Saturday Night Live made fun of Celine for the next 4 years. "I'm the greatest singer in the world."

Did Mariah apologize to Celine? (73,838)
by butterfly supreme from France
| |
|
|
So after Divas 1998, Mariah did a testimonial and said you shouldn't be doing adlibs against the queen of soul, and how you should revere Aretha. Anyway, it was kinda shady and people though it was directed at Celine. I read somewhere Whitney or maybe Patti asked Mariah apologize to Celine after the testimonial. I wonder if that was true and if it is, does anyone have a source? I know they love and respect each other now.

Haven't been on here for a month or so, have been busy producing an album for a summer release. I have been busy with my own life and so have been avoiding all MC news and stuff and you know what? I didn't miss a thing. The same crap is going on, it feels like I was here yesterday, must say though, not worrying about MC making a tit of herself every other day is quite nice. Album drops Summer. Ahhh. Real life.

I believe it is being EP'd by Mariah and Crustella. I don't know if it is for theatrical release or straight to DVD/cable. I was surprised to know that her book about the song has sold 750,000 copies.

Well, Ed took a preemptive measure and his song now has three additional co-writers. The song sounds a lot like TLC's "No Scrubs", so now the co-writers of "No Scrubs" are also co-writers of Ed's song. Should be a nice pay day for reality stars Tiny and Kandy. Too bad he didn't credit them from the beginning, but maybe he borrowed subliminally.

I'm not ashamed of saying that it's too much because it is. Lol. This could be added to the list of things that I don't need or want, but I definitely understand why she's doing it. Christmas and that song have become one of her biggest and easiest ways to earn and although I don't want it, I can't really hate on her capitalizing from it. Hopefully the children will enjoy it.

What of the dues Mariah owes to the remaining fans who haven't abandoned her. If she can't commit to being an, I don't know, "professional", or, dare I say "good", music artist, how insulting to everyone who comes to this board. Rather have Stella milk as much money from her reputation and squeeze the life out of her legacy with shite like a Christmas movie about a dog. Like, oh you guys, like whatever. Or in English. What [censored] tosh. She is ironically, a parody of the parody of herself. So yeah, she's old. Who does she think she's putting this stuff out for? She won't commit to being a good music artist so who does she think cares about all this other nonsense? Nobody is going to care one iota about (another) shite Christmas movie from, what Joe Public considers, a has-been. AIWFCIY is bigger than Mariah (that's a crazy, but true, sentence). And, Martyn, I'm glad the helpdesk fixed your face. A whole helpdesk dedicated to your face. You [censored] diva. Love it.

All I Want for Christmas Is (73,830)
by Edward from USA
| |

An animated movie based on the the whole album would be great idea, but not something cheaply made. They wouldn't have to redo any vocals, just use the album vocals with a good story. An animated movie based on "All I Want for Christmas Is You" also could be a great or bad idea depending on who's behind it. If Disney or any reputable company produced it, Mariah could be potentially and finally turning AIWFCIY into a #1 by the end of the year, but knowing how lazy, careless and uninspired Mariah has become, I'll take this announcement with a glass full of salt. I'm tired of disappointments, so let me expect the worse, maybe I might get a huge surprise.

I'm wondering the same. If it's good animated and fun maybe it will do well in december. I just fear a little bit that it is too much for non-fans. I mean I would love to watch it or is it only in US? I want a movie about "Honey": Mariah as agent honey aka 00soul. Wasn't there a idea in 98/99 about a movie with Chris Tucker which never happened?

I'm wondering if this is too much at this point. I don't want to see this timeless, iconic staple of a song become a cliche' this far into its career. Seems like she tried it with the book and maybe it didn't do what she thought it would do, or this may have been the plan all along, to release the book and the movie at a later date. She could have always done the movie a few years down the line away from the book to spread it out a little, but she does need to keep bringing in money to her brand also.
