Nah, the Glitter era was pretty bad. What I mean is people were writing her off left and right. And when Virgin dropped her, many thought it was the end of her career. Not saying she will rebound again as she did with TEOM, but it was def a low point. It's so disheartening because most of us here know she can still sing her ass off when she is prepared and rested. I saw her at Beacon on December 14 this year and although not the vocal powerhouse of the 90s, she was damn good. Joy To The World was breathtaking.

This is my favorite MC performance, ever. I always loved The One and those notes at the end, just wow. Second would probably be Somewhere Over The Rainbow at the tribute to Patti.

I'm glad another artist defended her and explained it. Why she couldn't just wing it was definately one of my questions. Now though this whole discussion is like beating a dead horse. Everybody should just move on. It happened. Even if Mariah finally gives a great explanation and does it humbly it won't matter because the general public has already made up their mind that Mariah is a lazy diva who can't sing anymore and she got the humiliation that she deserved. Like you said because of her bad reputation people will always come at her negatively. It also doesn't help that her manager won't shut the h*ll up and continues to add more fuel to the fire with her interviews. Hopefully when Mariah comes out of hiding they will focus on moving forward and not moving backwards by continuing to drag this out.

Exactly. It would have been easier for Mariah to recover if it only weren't for her stuck-up attitude. She doesn't understand that the diva act she puts on display mostly jokingly is not taken as a joke by many people. And now that Stella has enabled such behavior even more and even amplified it thanks to that trashy trainwreck of a show mistakenly named "Mariah's" World. People eventually got fed up and a lot of them think of her NYE performance as some kind of karmic retribution. But then again, the entire world has already moved on from the NYE debacle. Mariah's image, though, has taken its worst beating yet. This time I don't think she can recover as much or as fast as she did before. It's gonna take more than just time.

There are some parts that were lipped. I probably ignore it because the parts she did sing she sounded great. I absolutely love this particular special. Yes those ending whistles were awesome. I'm still pretty bitter that they didn't release The One as a single.

The thing we tend to forget is that Mariah comes from the studio world. She's a perfectionnist. in this clip noone can say she can't sing. She pays attention to what she sounds like. She's very much in her head, thinking what it must sound like for a listener. She's like arranging her vocals while singin[g] live. does that make any sense, you knwo what I mean? I think she is so smart and understands music not only as a singer but as a musician as well.

It was nice of Ed to defend her, and as a singer and performer he would know and understand her problem. He also explained what many people were questioning that why didn't see just wing it, Ed explained that it would not be in sync with the audio played and that would make it sound even worse so not singing was really her only option. I'm glad they asked Ed this question because his fans are obviously a lot of young people (along with older people), and these young people are usually behind the memes and twitter jokes. So now that they'll hear what Mariah actually suffered from an artist they know and listen to, they'll believe her. I'll say this though, if Mariah's image was a little softer and a little more down to earth, people wouldn't go after her as much. Like the more they think she's full of herself (which she is not, but people don't understand the diva act), the more people try to tear her down. Like when Adele messed up at the Grammy's (was it the Grammy's?) no one dragged her, in fact people sympathized with her (not talking about celebs, but the GP) because people relate to her. I'm not saying Mariah should be like Adele, she doesn't need to, Mariah herself had a very down to earth and vulnerable image before. If only she can bring that out again, people wouldn't attack her as much.

The One, Shining Through the Rain (71,222)
by Lee from UK

In this version of "The One" from "Shining Through the Rain" the audio quality is quite low as someone has tried to capture the mic feed. For me it raises a couple of questions: does Mariah seem to be lip syncing parts and also singing some parts? It is clear that her microphone is on but she is being cautious about which parts she is actually singing. Are the lipped parts filled in later, or is there a vocal backing track constantly being played? Does the audience notice that she is not actually singing some parts? Do they get to hear the backing track? It seems as though the high notes at the end are 100% live and they are beautiful. Perhaps she was saving her vocals for that. If so, it was definitely worth it.

Both songs represent difficult times in Mariah's life and both represent the collapse of a marriage. To honest for when I hear both songs it puts me in a sad because I look at it from MC's perspective as a writer it both songs represent pain. I like both songs for different reasons and it also depends on my mood. Songs like these two makes me appreciate Mariah the songwriter even more.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they re-shot scenes to add in that Tanaka "reaction". Simply because in the first episode (or second) they had that whole scene with Tanaka in her dressing room trying to pass it off as the SSF tour but in reality it was shot just months ago. Then the scenes they show in the "still to come" part after the show has that beach scene, which looks like it's from the those infamous Hawaii beach frolicking pictures were taking. So there is no doubt they edited a lot of crap. I also want to know why Tanaka was at the dress fitting? Shouldn't it just be really close people (in Mariah's case that's Stella and Mishka) and maybe your assistant? Why would you feel the need to bring your back up dancer along? There is absolutely no line drawn between Mariah's professional and personal life and that's a mature problem. She tends to surround herself with people on her payroll, people who'll never be completely honest with her. Anyways that dress was gorgeous though, everything from the design, the exquisite embroidery/embellishment, the lovely soft dusty pink color, the fit, the cut. Everything was perfect. Mariah would look so beautiful in it. Monroe was also looking so gorgeous in the matching dress. She'll grow up to be a stunner like her mommy.

Mel B is probably the most irrelevant member of the Spice Girls, and I haven't kept up with them since I was in grade 2 when they used to be popular. Her opinions don't matter but of course she'll try to get a moment from the trending topic that is Mariah's NYE performance, to try and get some relevancy for 5 seconds.

This also isn't the first time she said something like "Mariah is the biggest star here". This is something an established artist wouldn't need to keep saying because people already know that, only wanna be up and coming people would do something immature like that. Mariah has never spoken about herself like that, there were a lot of other big celebs there and it's disrespectful to them even if they are not bigger than Mariah. This whole "she is doing you a favor by showing up" just makes her sound more and more like a diva. This isn't the brand that was associated with Mariah before.

Exactly Matty. 100% agree. The drama focus is not what the draw is, you don't need gimmicks for people to watch. Authenticity allows people to relate and ultimately choose to journey with you. Look at someone like Ed Sheeran. He is an artist I love as well, and with him, everything is as genuine as it gets. People want to know what the real deal is for people. Those who truly love Mariah aren't hung up on her current vocal ability. People just want a real look at what actually goes on. I have said MC has self-esteem issues and addiction issues (whether it be working too much or too many splashes). Doesn't mean she deserves to be talked about and treated like she's horrible. Life is messy. We haven't walked a mile in her shoes. Underneath any questionable behavior on the outside, is always the desire for connection and acceptance on the inside.

Billboard and Ed Sheran (71,215)

Billboard and Ed are defending Mariah. Billboard has an article that explains how and why this snafu occurred and how everyone lypsyncs at these events and how the weather and venue factored into it. Ed said what happened to Mariah could happen to anyone and that people should move on and that it's being blown out of proportion.

They were planting traps all along, with drunk clips with M. sussone and the help, the cake scene, etc. They may have spliced him in later to punch up the storyline, but M. never acted like she was engaged about to be getting married except when she posed with Packer on vacation. Otherwise she acted very single.

NYE (71,208)
by B from USA

A technical snafu isn't going to ruin Mariah's career twenty seven years into it. It's actually done the opposite. She's trending and people are streaming her back catalogue which speaks for itself. The reality show complete with fabricated story lines and actors, the diva attitude, and Stella are why the unwashed masses on Twitter are ragging on her. Stella doesn't understand that the divadom is an act that Mariah is in on and that Mariah has a self deprecating sense of humor or at least she did before Stella. Stella saying Mariah did them a favor by performing and that she was the biggest star there (which technically was true) is unflattering as are all of her comments about the debacle. Mariah needs to admit it was her teams fault and perform Thank God I Found You on GMA and fire Stella. Mariah needs to drop the diva act and ditch the diamonds and sing.

New MW clip (71,206)
by Mara from United States

So the latest clip of MW is out and can somone answer a question I have in comeplete sincerity? In the clip you see Monroe trying on her dress for the wedding and we see Mariah the mother gushing over her beautiful little girl, very nice moment. Then we see Mariah, supposedly trying on her gown for her final fitting before her wedding to Packer. Why then, do we see Tanaka planted there looking unhappy? Wasn't this when MW was to be focused on the storyline of her wedding to Packer and touring at the same time. I would think the final fitting for your gown would be a private moment and forgive me, but why have your dancer there for that. He looked strangely out of place. Was this the plot they were going for all along? As a back up? To stir things up? Was this scene just edited in to look like he was there watching? Does it look that way to you guys? I mean at this point we know it's a staged mess, but I don't know where this can go from here. Where is the footage when we saw cameras following MC around and she went to that Elton John fundraiser looking so beautiful in that black dress. We need more of that, the superstar side.
