Vegas show (61,666) by Malcolm from Asia
I do agree, Mariah must revamp her show. With what's happening with her voice, it's better to put all the effort and elements aligned for a fantastic show. Wish she will have a runway style of stage to have more connection between her and the audience. She can do one pure acoustic number, it will be so much good to hear. Drop the "exclusive for #1's only" show, 1 year is enough to inform the public that she have 18 #1 hits and "that's something that nobody else has". It is good for her and the people who will come to the show if she will mix up the set list now and then because there are really like few of her #1's that the general audience wants to hear everytime like Emotions, ABMB, WBT, Hero. TGIFY, IDWC, Someday, DFAU for me are her most unpopular #1's, it's like the casual audience doesn't care if these songs will not be in the show. It will also be great if she will perform 2-3 songs from the Chanteuse or Memoirs album, it can help rebuilding and freshen up her image and signify the present Mariah. Because the problem with the #1's is the audience wants to hear exactly what she sounded in the studio version and will not be satisfied or will be in awe if it is not. If she will sing Faded, Betcha Gon Know, #Beautiful, or even Almost Home, they can have new perception for her and they will appreciate the voice more and will no longer be concentrated with "where is the 90's Mariah?", "she cannot sing like she used to", "she can't sing" stuff. They will be into the emotions and vibes and not into the critique side of it. Come through Mariah

A much needed change to keep the show fresh. Now if we could get a faded acoustic.

Vegas (61,664) by Giovanni from USA
I'm really curious how much longer Mariah plans on doing Vegas. Is it just temporary or permanently?

Mariah a gay icon (61,663) by Giovanni from USA
I don't consider Mariah a gay icon at all. She's never saluted or defended them. I know she loves all her fans regardless but she does not represent the gay community in any way. At least to me. She's Mariah the singer, music artist and music legend. Not Mariah the gay activist, fights for gay rights, raises the rainbow flag gay icon.

Mariah in better shape than ever (61,661) by Taryn from South Africa
I'm so glad MC is putting effort into her performances again. She is the complete package. Looks, sex appeal, voice, charm. I am so impressed with tonight's concert lambs.

Vegas revamp / J Lo's show (61,659) by RJJ12 from USA
Now that Mariah has started to put effort into her performances, I need her Vegas show to be revamped. Stella, please read, take notes, and implement. So I just wanted JLo's intro to her show and it is no joke. I saw another performance for one of her other songs and the performance was great. Mostly because it looks like they have put more money into the production of her show. Mariah doesn't have to be a dancer to execute this type of production. JLo isn't doing much dancing, her dancers are doing most of the work, her movements are just more carefully choreographed. When I sent to her show last summer, my friend was like "Why is she so frozen, and why do her dancers keep treating her like she has to move like an old lady?" I told him about her injury but he reminded me that they did this before that. I had no response. I need Mariah on a pegasus flying across the stage while she sings a ballad, I need her to interact more with the dancers, I need more special effects. It's obvious that they're two different shows, Mariah's being ballad heavy as she is tied to having to sing only her #1s. I need her to do more than stand there during her uptempos. Stella, watch JLo's show and make Mariah's that much better. P.S. Mariah also needs an updated promo reel of her show, preferrably using clips from the latest tour where she is in shape and sounding great.

Vegas show updated? (61,658) by Dustbin from USA
I bought my tickets. Front orchestra. I hope Mariah updates the show a bit. Usually performers change the show up a bit between breaks, I hope this is the case for MC. I don't care, obviously because I bought my tickets. I would just like a slight switch up with outfits. Set design. And maybe slip in a few surprises. The tour has been going well. I hope she mirrors some of the success in her Vegas show. Vegas would be the perfect controlled environment to showcase her voice as it's been delightful lately. Sing girl.

Yes me [...]. I was just wondering [...] I don't know [...] I would do when Mariah must die. She is my life and the only reason I'm living.

Re: Gay icon and advocate (61,654) (61,656) by Dustbin from USA
I agree with Ryan and Gilles. Mariah has shown much support. As a gay male myself, I haven't supported the community nearly as much as Mariah. To say she doesn't deserve this award is crazy. Mariah isn't Cher, Gaga, or Madonna. So don't dog her because she hasn't stood up on a soap box. To say she doesn't deserve this is just silly. Mariah: "But my boobs have been out for years." [...] said.

Hi all lambs. I just came back from the Mariah concert in Cape Town and I would just love to express to you all how much I love Mariah. More than anything else in the world.

Gay icon and advocate (61,654) by Ryan from Canada
If you search google for "Mariah shows support for the gay community" you will find all kinds of articles and interviews. Mariah has publicly spoken about her support for the gay community. She has performed for gay events. She has done interviews with many gay magazines where she addresses questions about gay marriage and gay issues and even questions about how she would feel if one of her children is gay. She was seen partying at a gay bar in LA with B. Scott to celebrate Obama's support for gay marriage. She may not be as outspoken as Lady Gaga or other celebrities but she has certainly shown her support on many occasions over her career. P.S. Sorry webmaster if I posted some unfinished posts. Was going to add some links but everytime I switched tabs back my message was gone.

I highly doubt it. But it's always good to hope. I wish MC would atleast sing a new or unreleased song live. Give us something during this drought of new music. I don't even need a video or promo. Her videos have been disppointing to say the least anyway.

Re: GLAAD award (61,637) (61,652) by Bill from the UK
I agree Andrew. Songs such as Looking In, Outside, and all the other "overcoming adversary" songs were about being bi-racial, but ambiguous enough to be interpreted for any given situation, such as coming to terms with homosexuality. She's then in the next breath singing soaring gospel numbers such as Fly Like A Bird and Heavenly. We all know what the Bible's opinion on homosexuality is. When asked to give an opinion on a demographic, her response is usually the stock "we love everybody", which as you say is as apolitical as one can get. So yes, bizarre that she has won this award.

Re: GLAAD award (61,644) (61,651) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Correct me if I'm wrong. These awards are chosen by the organization/community are they not? She's unquestionably a LGBT icon. While I agree MC isn't the first celeb that comes to mind in terms of LGBT advocacy work, she most certainly is an icon representing all forms of equality, whether that be facing some kind of disability, adversity, be it bi-racial, overcoming obstacles, including equality in the LGBT community. It's not like Mariah's out there screaming "Pick me, pick me, I deserve this award." She's just doing her thing. The community obviously sees fit to recognize that she's a symbol of unconditional acceptance for many people. There's no denying her influence to any group that has felt misunderstood.

Gay Icon (61,649) by Nikki from usa
The award is for promoting acceptance which Mariah has done. I'm kind of shocked by all the fans on here who don't think MC talking about her guncles for 15 years isn't support. Especially, since she kept saying Ernie and Mort co-raised her. She actively supported Obama who supported gay marriage. She even went to the Abbey, the gayest club ever, to party the night away with the ladies. Mariah did a special performance for club GAY. She went to the Out100 gala and gave a speech on behalf of Lee Daniels. She's the first person on the cover and interview for Turkey's first gay magazine. Not to mention featuring a gay couple in I Want To Know What Love Is and having a gay couple propose on stage at concert. She rallied on social media for anti bullying of gays back in 2010 and that article is on this website. That same year she also did an interview with The Advocate on gay acceptance and covered everything from gay friends to if her kids turned out gay since she was newly pregnant at the time. I'd say she's been pretty active in the gay community. I guess real truth and digging deep doesn't go hand in hand with the same lot who thinks respect is clothing apparel, huh?

Glad about the GLAAD Award (61,648) by Tijl from Belgium
Honestly I am happy for Mariah to receive the award. Is she the most outspoken spokesperson for gay rights? No Is she a gay icon? Yes. Compared to a Lady Gaga or that Madonna person she is much less outspoken in public but read between the lines: a "rainbow" cover, a very gay pose, song lyrics such as "Outside" and "Mariah's Theme" and her love for anything camp. Mariah deserves this award as she has been speaking through her music for anyone that felt out of place in their lives. No need for blatant and vulgar behaviour on gay pride parades etc. She may be over the top when it comes to her image but in her heart she is modest and respectful. Unfortunately some gay people don't understand the power of a meaningfull whisper over shallow hollering. The award will give her extra confidence and good publicity in the mags.

If Mariah's donations to AID's charities were known it would cause Mariah to deal with the Alison questions and chaos.

Re: GLAAD award (61,641) (61,645) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I'm probably only speaking for myself when I say I've known about the GLAAD awards for 6 years now, and they recognize people, organizations and media that not necessarily tirelessly advocate but do help promote equality and acceptance especially for the LGBT community. While it may seem like they're hitching their wagon to a global superstar, I truly believe they just want to recognize efforts toward this cause. Just how well do we think we know Mariah and her philanthropic activities? I'm guessing there are many that she'd rather keep to herself and not publicize. She maybe an unlikely winner and this award my not be a big deal (or any deal at all) to most of us, but it's nice that she's getting recognized for her humanity.

Re: GLAAD award (61,633) (61,644) by Marissa from USA
"Who are we to question her merits?" Rational human beings perhaps? You are advocating for blind allegiance, because you shouldn't have to suspend your ability to think critically to be a good fan. This is the part that people are missing. Is Mariah a gay icon? Absolutely. I wouldn't be surprised if gay men outnumbered women in her fanbase. Is she a tireless gay advocate who is devoting her life to the cause? Absolutely not. Everyone's saying essentially "just because she's not very vocal about it doesn't mean she's not a gay advocate". That misses the entire point of advocacy. Supporting gay rights privately does nothing to advance the cause when you have millions of followers who you could be getting the message out to on a regular basis. The point is to use one's celebrity platform to advance the cause of gay rights which she has done very infrequently and coyly. I don't think someone who puts their desire to be seen as politically neutral over boldly advocating for gay rights should be nominated for this award. Now if Mariah (finally) got a Grammy or a Lifetime Achievement Award you wouldn't hear me saying anything because at least it would make sense.

Re: GLAAD award (61,641) (61,642) by B from USA
I think the GLAAD Icon Award is given to an icon who has had a positive impact on members of the LGBT community. She's provided a voice, lyrically and vocally, through her songs for the gay community. As a 12 year old gay boy hearing Outside helped me realize I wasn't the only one who felt out of place everywhere. Stop trying to diminish her importance to the LGBT community.

Re: GLAAD award (61,638) (61,641) by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
I have to agree with Andrew. I think Mariah only gets the award because Mariah is a superstar, so that the GLAAD Award gets more publicity. Who has ever heard of this award before? Celebrities who deserve awards are people who will travel around to stop injustice, talk to world leaders about political issues, who are not afraid to speak their minds when they see something they don't like. People like Princess Diana, Angelina Jolie, Bono, Bruce Springsteen. Certainly not Mariah.

Epic performance (61,640) by DK from USA
On April 20th MC Facebook page posted "PSA: Single night tickets are now available for ?#?ESSENCEFest? and I will be giving an EPIC performance on Saturday night. Trust me, you don't want to miss it." I wonder if this was a hyped ad or a hint that she will perform a new single. MC and/or her camp don't use the word "epic" often... well certainly not prior to her joining Epic Records.
