Re: Candy Bling (65,429) (65,430) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't understand why people say stuff like "I can't believe Mariah is the same person who wrote VOL because now she writes songs like TMB". I'm like what? TMB is awesome. I mean I can understand "Infinity" getting dissed (although it's not really the worst thing out there, I enjoy it sometimes), but I will never understand the hate for TMB. It's fun, flirty, sexy, fresh and basically the definition of a summer jam. The chorus is fun and cute, the video was great. I don't think it lacks anything. I mean Mariah wrote silly lyrics before too, it's not like she always has to be deep and write about heartbreak or longing for a lover. TMB was deserved that #1 spot because that song managed to capture not only the lambs but the GP too. A lot of people know TMB and it's one of the more popular Mariah songs that people can name and they also enjoy it.

Lol true about the title, she hardly ever says candy bling, but I love the way she says the remember part. Such a good, cool song. I was stunned to hear it sitting up in starbucks on break. Lol. It's been so long since weve heard a recent song on the radio waves. Lol. I can't wait for that moment to happen again. I heard Beautiful a few times, but not in heavy rotation. Lol. I loved when TMB was a smash and you heard it two times an hour. Lol.

I love "Candy Bling". The soothing vocals, the cute story, the finger snaps, the soft music and the climax ad-libs. I also love the sample of Ahmad's "Back in the day". The song is underrated and I think the name of the song puts some people off haha, although I think it's cute. I think it would be less hated on if it was named "I still remember" or something like that.

Where is Mariah? (65,427) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So there are a lot of photos Stella posted of herself, Mishka and Zarina on the Warner Bros Studios lot. In one we can see something being shot with all the camera equipment and lighting equipment. Is Mariah supposed to be on any show or is she shooting anything new?

Re: Best eras - in memoriam (65,413) (65,426) by Haiji Toro from USA
I agree with all of this. These were all great eras. My favorite era was the Rainbow-Glitter era. Personality wise, she seemed free. She began speaking her mind. Her interviews were so much fun to watch. Although the Rainbow album isn't on my too favorite list (due to a few fillers), it still has some memorable songs. I remember "Petals" being my favorite and "Did I Do That?" my least favorite, and the latter still is. Her style was fun and simple. She really showed her girly side, which she has said previously, that's who she really is. Her videos were great and majority of them had concepts. The Bianca role and skits were great. A little corny now that I'm older, but at those times it was nice to see, very different to what we were used to seeing from her. She was so involved in the music and video process, while still working on Glitter, the movie. The movie isn't the best but I still enjoy watching it for laughs and memories. The soundtrack to me was perfect. I understood the concept. She knew what she was doing musically, with being featured on most songs. It's so funny to think back to that time, remembering how much of a fan I was to Mariah and J-Lo, both. I remember hating the "I'm Real" remix because I had a friend that wouldn't stop playing it so much, but still enjoyed the original version. I absolutely loved "If We" when I first heard it but I remember thinking that it was so similar to "I'm Real" remix, but didn't mind. Samples were overused in those days, thanks to Diddy lol so I didn't think much of it. My favorite songs off the soundtrack were "Lead the Way" (very underrated) and "Want You". I was so upset that neither became official singles in the US. I feel that the whole Glitter "debacle" is what really started the Mariah "shade" era (2002 - now). I felt bad for her then and sided with her. I think now it's just become overly exhausting to even hear and see.

Re: Song of the decade (65,416) (65,425) by RibbonB from USA
Pharrell has had a few great songs, but he is a bit over rated IMO. Say Something was lukewarm at best. She does need just the right combination of music, lyrics and arrangement. I hope she has some good things coming soon just to whet our appetites, if not an actual home run. She needs to get a base hit again. Lol. I wish she could get her music on Scandal or some hit show.

Mariah Carey's underrated sophomore album turns 25 (65,424) by B from USA
Mariah's sophomore effort Emotions is an homage to her influences. Emotions is one of her strongest efforts and it is severely underrated.

Arrangements (65,423) by B from USA
I think Mariah should rearrange her hits like she did for TGIFY. Just her and a piano. This type of arrangement showcases her still impressive vocals and highlights her talent as a songwriter. I hope she does Storytellers. I was so disappointed when she cancelled her appearance.

I actually heard this playing yesterday while in Starbucks. Sounded so cute, so good. I like the way Mariah sings so smoothly and tells the story about fond times. She really can get a variety of colors and flavors to her voice. A nice little song too.

Re: The Emancipation Of Mimi era (65,420) (65,421) by Merr Hasenan from Malaysia
I'm hoping for Mariah to do something with her hits. Rearrange the music and the structure of the songs that suit more to her recent vocal. Madonna is the queen in this game, i never heard the same Vogue or Like A Virgin in her concerts. It is always a different version. As for the new music, I want Mariah to write ballads in the line of Butterfly, Music Box, ISIL or WBT, pop/r and B minus the guest rappers. The music experts will call the new songs WBT part 1001, but the non lambs will appreciate her. She needs to work with Diane Warren or Babyface. I desperately need the big ballad.

Re: The Emancipation Of Mimi era (65,419) (65,420) by ADAM from USA
I wish she'd do a one-off performance from start to finish of her debut album all acoustic. Alicia Keys did something like that a year ago and I thought it was a perfect platform to remind fans and non-fansalike that you're still relevant but also to share stories about this famous record. Mariah always says she's tired in many ways of performing the hits, but never steps outside her comfort zone to perform any material that's not. I don't consider the random singing of a few lines of The Roof or Cant Let Go sufficient enough. I feel she's lazy and doesn't put in the work to re-package older material to her fans. Madonna and Beyonce are excellent in this matter. They both always change up the structure and melodies of their older hits and it always makes for intrigue as a listener when they perform. The creativity they put into there songs makes me sad that Mariah doesn't do half the effort.

Re: The Emancipation Of Mimi era (65,414) (65,419) by darrian liu from taiwan
She needs good live televised performances to convince people that she still can sing. Unplugged performances with just one instrument would be great.

Re: Vocals (65,411) (65,418) by darrian liu from taiwan
She was the most effortless in 1993-1996, if we talk about technique. In the debut era, sometimes Mariah got a little too chesty in the upper belts, hence the occasional rasp we hear back then.

Song of the decade (65,416) by Giovanni from USA
I don't know about anyone else but I would love for Mariah to have another song of the decade. I wish she'd work with Pharell for an up tempo jam and Diane Warren for a ballad. If Mariah would do a song like "One sweet day" or "Fly like a bird" I would be super happy.

Mariah on Live with Kelly (65,415) by Giovanni from USA
In my opinion Mariah has looked her best this year on "Live with Kelly". Her make up was natural, her hair was nice and her body looked amazing. Those legs were looking great. I also enjoyed the interview. Kelly is always so welcoming and sweet to Mariah.

The Emancipation Of Mimi era (65,414) by Giovanni from USA
Is also my favorite era. She was humble, confident and untouchable that year. Her looks, voice and ensembles were on point. I honestly believe she can have another great era like 2005 if the music is good followed by a ton of promotion. However I'm still bothered all these years later that Mariah did not win album of the year. She was robbed.

Best eras - in memoriam (65,413) by Edward from USA
Vocally: 1990-1995
During this era Mariah's voice was effortless, there wasn't any straining or struggle. It was perfect. Not only could she sing high, low and between, but her command of the whistle register was unparalleled. Little things she did to adorn some of her songs were out of this world ("Music Box" at 3:14, "Underneath The Stars" at 1:42). To me it was like listening the voice of an angel. Her voice was like butter and her fluidly was impeccable.

Visually: 1997
During this era Mariah's freedom was evident, and she was sexy without trying too hard. She penned some of her most introspective and beautiful songs ("Butterfly", "Close My Eyes", "Outside"). She still had it, but the butter in hear voice had left the building.

2005
This era proved that when Mariah has a great team, and she allows input and take some direction things can turn out right. This was a combination of Mariah's determination, good writing, good singing with less whispering, and great management. The music alone wouldn't have gotten this result.

The best era was the first CD. She was effortless. Her whistle register was uncontrollable and piercing. No other era compares. She was also a fully live singer then.

Ditto all this, Marissa. The 2006 WBT/FLAB Grammies performance and the standing ovation that followed was one of my fave MC moments ever. And the ILT performance for VH1 where she is in the red pantsuit thingy, she was stunning.

Re: Vocals (65,405) (65,407) by Marissa from USA
My favorite "version" of Mariah is TEOM era. Although she was sweet, I found 90-95 Mariah's personality boring and suppressed. To this day I still almost never watch interviews from that era because I know she wasn't being herself. TEOM era was perfect. She wasn't just happy. She had a spiritual joy that radiated from her. She embodied the lyrics of Can't Take That Away. She was grounded, humble, secure, grateful to have such a successful comeback and the diva antics were infrequent enough to actually be fun. Even a hater couldn't help but like her back then.

How I miss that Mariah too. It's interesting that you mention the Christmas album. Her voice were really amazing and so clear. There are many songs where I could cry because of the wonderful voice. And yes I loved her natural look. That was real. But that was at a time people weren't as superficial as today. I'm so happy to grew up with MTV and co. and got to see real superstars with talent not only entertainers that look cheap and trashy.
