New Yorker Whitney article (Mariah mention) (59,398)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Clearly, the person who wrote this is not a fan of Mariah, but what he writes is not only disrespectful but downright offensive and verges on (counter-)racist. He writes: "The first challenge to Houston's legacy arrived in the early nineties, in the form of Mariah Carey, who, from the very beginning of her career, with her constant vocal runs and obsessive flurry of hands, took certain 'black' singing habits to extremes. These were habits that Houston [...] largely eschewed. Despite Carey's caricature of black stylistics and her mixed racial background, the skin-color difference between her and Houston managed to bring out America's racism. Houston was subject to the singer's version of the black athlete's curse: as the daughter of the gospel great Cissy Houston and a cousin of Dionne, Whitney was regarded as all instinct and natural gifts, whereas Mariah, arranger and songwriter, had a brain." "Caricature of black stylistics"? It's Ms Carey we're talking about here, not Christina Aguiera. So frustrated when people not only don't appreciate Mariah's musicianship but in fact misinterpret and misrepresent her. You can read the rest here.

She envies Mariah's success. Deep down she hates her because Mariah achieved so much and she didn't. I agree she really didn't have the drive to go on. If she really wanted it she could've had it. Mariah's grateful and appreciative. She's jealous and bitter. I dislike how she's making it seem like Mariah never ever acknowledged her, she always did and she still does to this day. "If my shows of gratitude are miniscule, Inside your mind, sorry (I'm so sorry, please forgive me), there's only so much I can do I love you and did all that I could." This could be about Tommy but also fits with Brenda. I hope that her kid does well and she stops whining about not being appreciated. Mariah never took her for granted.

So according to Wendy JLo is the new queen of Vegas lol. But of course she did not bring up the fact that her show was not completely sold out. I feel now with Britney, Mariah and JLo there is competition on who can sell out the most shows. Kinda like a Vegas showdown lol. I didn't include Celine because her shows are always sold out.

You're probably right but still. I would have loved to hear Mariah cover it. Mimi L thanks for posting those pics. She did look like a queen. I feel she could pull off that style again. Maybe in a video or strictly for an interview.

Well thanks, the feeling is mutal. Maybe you are right regarding "Unbreak my heart". It's just a fantasy. But I will say I liked your list. Especially with "Angel". I love me some Sarah Mclachlan. My favorite songs are "I will remember you" and "Fallen". "Afterglow" is my favorite album. And for some reason I enjoy playing it only on cloudy and rainy days.

Mariah probably will be a good step mom. Didn't she have a really good relationship with Tommy's kids? The Packer Carey clan may have met in private. I mean we all know Mariah can pull private things away from the paps, like when she got married to Nick and no one knew about it until after it was done. I don't think James would propose to Mariah without letting them know and without her having met his whole family.

Brenda at it again (59,392)
by Cgee54 from Usa

Did anyone see Brenda K Star crying on a interview that came out on the insider when she was asked if she blames Mariah for ending her career? I really hate people who try to act like a victim when they are not. I mean most of the 80s dance pop singers didn't make the transition from the 80s freestyle/dance sound to the 90 sound. I hate when people blame others for their failure, if she wanted to be successful she would of work hard to get herself another deal. "This one is going to appreciate me and never forget me." Bitter I think so. Here's the interview if anyone cares to see it.

Thanks for reminding me about the hairdo she was wearing when she met Thalia. I loved that whole look including the hair. It was simple, sleek and chic. I also loved how she was totally feeling like royalty and she looked like a queen meeting the commoners here and here. Love this too. Also I forgot to mention in my last post but I do love the messy bun situation she had going on in the pool scenes (if that was what you were referring to). That is so effortlessly sexy. I don't know why Mariah so rarely does an updo.

I think Mariah's team has actually already reached out to Wendy. The things she says about Mariah now are not nearly as ratchet as they were a year ago before she got the new management team. She even often compliments her, with shade of course. Or maybe her team hasn't and it was just Wendy kicking Mariah while she was down, who knows? Or she was using the classic "talk bad about somebody until they feel the need to come on the show to defend themselves" tactic because we know Mariah isn't going on that show voluntarily.

Yes I agree. It seems that JLo went to the doctor to transfer fat back into that famous behind. It went all flat when she went vegan. I saw one of her performances and it was really good. Lip synched for her life but she was dancing. I would love for them to give Mariah a new wardrobe worthy of her new body. No wigs or at least ones that look like they are growing out of her scalp. I hope they let her change the show from 1 To Infinity so she can incorporate more uptempos into her show. If JLo is bringing the performances I want Mariah to give really good vocal performances. If she could give Beacon show or better type vocals, I don't know anyone who wouldn't want to see her.

Giovanni, I love you like tea time in July but I do not want MC singing Unbreak My Heart. She cannot match the emotion or sexiness in Toni's baritone. Now MCs glass cutting false and give-everything belt on the iconic My All screams more of desperation, is emotional and lyrically unmatched by anything Diane Warren could ever pen but it's two different lanes. MC also cannot match Deborah's also able to perform it live belt on Nobody's Supposed To Be Here but MCs lyrical genius on The One is a far better lyric. You picked a good topic for once. I would pick: 5. Someone Like You - Adele 4. Ange l- Sarah MC 3. You Were Meant For Me - Jewel 2. One In A Million - Aaliyah 1. Hurt - Christina Aguilera

One thing I agree with Wendy (59,385)
by Lee TS from USA

When do we get to see the blending of the children? First I thought Jimmy was probably overly protective and private about his little ones. But then I just saw a paparazzi video of his soon to be ex-wife Erica arriving in an airport with Seal and their whole brood. I counted, there were 7 kids between them two. There were cameras flashing all up in their faces. Seal was even holding onto Jimmy's son, I'm assuming that's his son. I want to see Mariah be a good step mommy to her new kids. She can take all the kids to Disneyland or something, she is a regular. I mean, if she can have Stella's kids around her why not her new step children.

The wedding (59,383)

So do you all think the wedding is going to be public a la 1993 or private a la 2008? Everyone's expecting a stereotypical over the top Mariah moment but I'm getting a feeling that this wedding will be more laidback.

Five songs I wish were Mariah's (59,381)
by Giovanni from USA
| |

I'd thought I'd share some of my favorite songs I wish were Mariah's. 1. "If you asked me to" from Patti Labelle. I can hit repeat about four or five times when playing this amazing song. Mariah would have owned this. 2. "Beauty and the Beast" from Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson. I respect Celine as a great singer but this should have been Mariah's song. 3. "I'm your angel" by Celine Dion and R. Kelly. I know, another from Celine. But still, it's definitely Mariah. 4. "Unbreak my heart" from Toni Braxton. A power ballad that screams Mariah. 5. "Nobody's supposed to be here" dance mix from Deborah Cox. Why oh why isn't this Mariah's? There is no denying she would have sung all these songs way better than the orginal singers.

Article: Mariah Carey is already planning her wedding (59,380)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|

I read this on Daily Mail and this is too hard to believe. Now, I believe the little girl is probably very talented and congrats to her. But her other designs were very amateur and home-made looking, but she's in school so it makes sense. Her parents seem to be thirsty for the spotlight and were probably the ones who gave the story. Being someone of Mariah's caliber with any pick of designer she chooses, I doubt she'll spend that much on a fashion student's designs. Is Vera Wang too busy for Mariah? I want her to wear a Michael Cinco number. She should have at least 3-4 wedding gowns.

How about the style she wore in the "Nick Cannon did not explode over Mariah engagement" pic? It's very lovely and one of my favorite looks on her. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same look she wore when she met Thalia for the first time.

"The Voice Is Mariah Carey" on Facebook uploaded a photo of a page from the World Record 2016, which shows the top 10 "Biggest Selling Artists Ever" from all music genres combined onto one chart. Mariah came in at Number 3, behind The Beatles and Garth Brooks. I'm not sure which sales were included.

No one really wants Stella fired. We recognize the positive things she's done for MC's career. She and her kids are just ever-present which is unusual for someone who is staff and people are taking notice.

"Stella is the manager that has given her more opportunities." Um it's her job, she isn't doing Mariah a favor. It's every managers job. Every celebrity has managers and they all work tirelessly for them. I don't see Beyonce hanging out with her manager's kids at dates with Jay Z just saying. Plus you miss the point, no one said she has to absolutely never enjoy with Mariah and bring her daughters, Everyone who talked about this topic were very specific about how sometimes the line has been crossed and Stella along with her daughters were present in places that would be considered especially private. Benny, Jermaine, Randy and many others who managed her before didn't do that either. Jermaine being one of her closest friend didn't follow her with his entire family. But oh well, I guess I'll go on being petty. It is what it is.

Vegas residency (59,372)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|

Mariah must level up her game in Vegas. The show-stopper queen has arrived (yes, JLo it is) and if she/we like it or not they will be compared. I agree that she must ditch the wigs because it looks cheap for her but if she and her team can up the weave game ala-Beyonce style then so be it. I think it will help her show because she always say that her Vegas show shows her journey as an artist so might as well bring us back to those times visually: the outfits, the wigs, the stage that will reminisce every #1 hit seamlessly with class. Honestly, her stage looks cheaper and smaller compared to Celine's and JLo's. Come on Team Mariah, if she will do this for good please fix, arrange and improve everything that fits for a queen with 18 #1 hits, changed the face of pop music and inspired mostly all the female artist in 20th century. And MC, I don't care if you don't dance, just own that stage like this and we are all good. Please slay this residency like that 35-carat engagement ring.
