MC and Rihanna (59,950) by Gilles from Malta
I am very glad and happy for Mrs R. because it is such a difficult way to achieve today. When we listen R's number 1 we can feel a different trend, another type of music, others types of beats, very electro mixed with hip hop and pop standard. Regarding the lyrics they are quiet dark that I qualify as tragic love, tough life, difficulties inside the society. On the other hand MC is a mixed and a source of inspiration through different styles of music, she can adapt to every trend or style of music with a MC touch, her lyrics are about love, desire, hope, breakdown, hope, faith, break up. R. will be like MC, I mean a prisoner of her number 1's. After every top there is a down. MC knows how to face that situation. Now Mariah is an icon, a classic singer and a legend she writes most of her lyrics and produces her own material, that is more difficult to get that title than to have a trending number 1 made by a lot of collaborators and producers. I am not worried at all. Mariah is a legend, Rihanna is a trend.

Coming for the Billboard queen status (59,949) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Let's not even try to fool ourselves thinking that it will take Rihanna a few more years to pass Mariah. She can very well do it by this year or next year if she choose to. Why? Look at Taylor's 1989. Collected 3 #1's within a span of 2 years. Bieber's "Purpose" collected 3 #1's within a span of 1 year. So Rihanna can do the same. She doesn't even need to spend the 2nd week at #1, she'll just have to be there 1 week and that's it. If Mariah doesn't step up her game, she has to be fine with people asking her how it feels to have Rihanna surpass her record (Rihanna out of all the people in the world, heck I would have settled for Taylor even since she at least writes her material). There would be no more "18 #1's, not everyone has that".

Seriously guys? (59,948) by Nikki from usa
People are talking like Rihanna already passed Mariah as if it were inevitable. Let's not count the chickens before they're hatched. MC was considered unstoppable once. No one anticipated Glitter would knock her so far down. No one saw her return coming either. People, especially Beatles fans, were freaking out when MC clocked her 18th #1. All the papers were headlining that MC would break the boys record before she hit 40. They claimed she was on fire and there was nothing to stop her. She was, and still is, only 2 hits away. Then, Nick happened. Rihanna has already had 11 years of unstoppable success. If MC's work rate proves anything it's what goes up must come down. The signs are already showing. Her vocals are getting into bad shape, even for her. She's resorting to attaching herself to other artists for hype. Her last body of work didn't score any #1's, which was odd for her. Her label had to have another corporation buy downloads to give away for free to grab attention and headlines. "Work" is an ok track, but it's not all that. It's running 70% on hype and momentum. So is Rihanna at this point. The real question is, how long can that continue to last? I doubt she'll make it to Mariah's crown.

Re: Rih's 14th Billboard Hot 100 #1 (59,940) (59,947) by George Golden from UK
4 numbers is easy to get for an artist like Rihanna. Mariah needs to wake from her sleep. This girl only had one number one when Mariah had her 18th.

Mariah Carey Glitter interview (59,946) by 123 from USA
Interesting interview during the Glitter era. I never saw it before now.

Oh no (59,945) by Giovanni from USA
There are people on the board who think Mariah needs help from Rihanna or Justin Bieber for a hit. What an insult.

Re: Ease for new generation / 14th number 1 (59,938) (59,944) by 123 from USA
You are correct. It is easier to nab a number 1 spot because the charting system has changed. Streams count for 25% of chart position in the US. I believed it changed right around the time Miley released that Wrecking Ball video. Rihanna was smart and waited until her latest song peaked on the charts (number 5) and then released the video. Her video was released today so with all the streams it will push her to number 1. They claim that Mariah got a bunch of number ones because of price cuts, but it's just strategic, timely marketing and roll out.

Re: Rihanna surpasses Mariah (59,933) (59,943) by David F from Mexico
Hola I agree with you so sad to see this things happen. Rihanna is using the only artists that give her strenght that would be Drake and Eminem twice. If you notice she did not take the risk on her own. So next time she will use them both again. Her acts are messy. I personally do not own anything by her nor will. Our queen Mariah needs to do the same, have the risk to bring a record with Justin Bieber. A happy pop record the rapper formula is a little used. I think his fans would like Mariah. I think they do because they download the Christmas video every year. Just think about it.

Work (59,942) by Lee TS from USA
I can't believe it actually made it to #1. I'm actually feeling some type of way about it, wow. I'm gonna have a breakdown when she surpasses Mariah. Ugh. Well congrats to Rihanna.

Till It Happens To You (59,941) by Blue Riding Hood from Outside
If the song wins the Oscar and charts well, it'll give Dianne more acclaim. So if Mariah releases the Dianne collab, she may have a critical hit in the bag.

Rih's 14th Billboard Hot 100 #1 (59,940) by radhames from Curacao
I am truly happy for her, as beeing a true lamb. She still has 4 to go the reach 18, "which is dificult to get, not everybody has that". Yeah but we love everybody. I would never count Mariah out, look at TEOM era or Justin Bieber latest album. Who would tought that in 2016 me (26 years old) would be downloading a Justin Bieber album and jaming in my car? But yeah, anyway, I'm here to talk about my queen. And I love the fact that MC and Rih both like each other. I'm not sure how an MC duet with Rih will sound, but it would be nice if they can release soming together, like right now in "Work" hype of being her 14th nr one. And they could market it like the duet of the women with most Billboard Hot 100 #1 songs, But the song needs to be so good to debut at #1 or at least go to #1. That would be a hude accomplishment for both artists. Also it would replace Mariah's image of not loving other female artists in the general public eyes. On a personal note, I would rather have her to do a duet with Rih than with Bey. But going back I'm not sure how it would sound.

#14 (59,939) by Will from England
Well, Billboard is already calling "Work" Rihanna's 14th #1, which (if they are right after this week's update) would put her right behind Mariah. It's scary to see her literally four songs away, and she can do it easily. With her following and hype around her, she can secure her four #1s possibly over the next couple of years. Mariah better pay attention because she will no longer be "the solo artist with the most #1s" (which has been her title for the past 8 years) and the importance of her Vegas show would be slightly diminished. Of course, the impact would be less for Rihanna, because she hasn't written or produced or anything of her #1s, which gives Mariah's achievement far more credibility. And let's not get into the vocal comparison. We know what Rihanna can't do. Also, I can't begin to name any of her previous 13.

Ease for new generation (59,938) by Blue Riding Hood from Outside
It seems to me that these days if you are established, it becomes easy for an artist to go #1. Example, Katy, Rihanna, Taylor whereas even if they were huge like MJ, Whitney, Mariah, they still never had #1s with much ease.

Mariah's 1OAK look (59,937) by Marissa from USA
I thought she looked great. I'm knocking off a few points because of those tacky tights, but she looked so happy and youthful that that was pretty much all I payed attention to.

Kesha (59,934) by B from USA
Mariah helping Kesha and giving her advice is proving Mariah is a rarity in the industry. Mariah relates to her struggle because until Daydream/Butterfly Mariah had to write what Tommy told her to. He was constantly micromanaging every aspect of her career and personal life. Kesha deserves to write and record music that she's passionate about. Like Mariah she'll only be happy until she's free to do so. She’s a talented songwriter.

Rihanna surpasses Mariah (59,933) by Blue Riding Hood from Outside
Rihanna posts her 24th top 10 on Radio Songs, passing Mariah Carey's 23 for the most top 10s dating to the chart's December 1990 inception. With the ascent of "Work", Rihanna collects her 14th Hot 100 leader, upping her into a solo share of the third-most No. 1s all-time, breaking a tie with Michael Jackson. Here's an updated look at the acts with the most Hot 100 No. 1s:
20, The Beatles
18, Mariah Carey
14, Rihanna
My hear broke when I read this. It's so unfair. A day might come, when she'll also take her record for 18 #1s. I can only silently hope Mariah will make a comeback even bigger than TEOM and grab a few #1s (possibly 7-9) and reinstate her crown. Come through Mimi.

But you have to admit she looks amazing. The sudden weight loss and wearing short dresses again. The short dresses make her look younger, and she can still rock them. I agree about the lashes though. I always thought the closing of the eyes was due to mascara. She should ditch both. But I'm loving how confident she is again.

MC at 1-Oak (59,929) by Billy from Greece
So cool and nostalgic to see Mariah vibing to "Sweetheart" and "Loverboy" (albeit somehow less enthusiastically). And B. Scott just couldn't get off M's hair. But really, the "Sweetheart" sing-along, just sweet.

Re: 1OAK (59,927) (59,928) by B from USA
She's the perfect Vegas showgirl. I'm glad she ditched the unflattering ensembles from the first run. I think she'll eventually don showgirl costumes like she did in the videos for Breakdown and I Stay In Love. I hope she hires an A-list stylist. She's a megastar and she needs to look the part at all times. Her voice is in fine form. I've listened to all of the recent concerts and aside from some minor vocal mishaps, which every singer is entitled to, she slayed. Mariah and her residency is a success.

Re: 1OAK (59,922) (59,927) by Luke from United Kingdom
I agree with the make-up side, I do think she looks prettier with less. I think she's trying to channel the Marilyn/Hollywood glam style while she's been in Vegas.

Article: Mariah Carey talks about Las Vegas residency (59,925) by B from USA
Simply stunning. She's flawless. Bow down, bitches. Beyoncé isn't Mariah's successor. I Am Sasha Fierce was Beyoncé's last good album. 4 and Beyoncé are horrible. She's overrated. Mariah looks like she's ready to reclaim her throne. Slay, Mariah, slay.

I second what you've said about the lashes, especially considering Mariah's eyes are so gorgeous.
