Re: Only one MC song (60,249) (60,265)

This is a tricky one. In my top 5 - can not condense my answer to one single song - in random order: - "Honey" - "#Beautiful" - "Triumphant" - "The Roof" - "The Art of Letting Go"

That when she is super confident and super happy she just randomly sings. She has very very rarely done this since the 90's in interviews and it also makes the debate on this board a little clearer about the reporter who asked her to sing with him. I think the main issue was the key, and not that he asked her. She as recently as the Carpool Karaoke was so hesitant to sing but now she knows where her voice is at. I'm getting a good feeling. See 1.30 in the link.

The theme of the album should be finding love again unexpectedly after the end of her marriage. No more rappers or JD. Please he's irrelevant and your loyalty to him is costing you your relevance. Also Big Jim is also dating your sound. You need fresh producers like Happy Perez who produce modern R&B classics. All Mariah needs to do to score another hit is revisit the songwriting formula she used during the writing of Music Box, Daydream, and Butterfly. Straightforward simple yet clever lyrics with simple catchy hooks and melodies.

I've recently come to love Heavenly. I wasn't too keen on it when MIAM came out, but due to recent circumstances that song has been playing for days. It's amazing how much music can be so uplifting. So definitely that or Fly Like A Bird.

Article: Las Vegas shows a complete disaster? (60,260)
by Jiro from USA

Lies. why would they even compare a singer to a dancer? Mariah even extended her residency in Vegas which only means that people are actually buying her. I just can't believe how people are so desperate to lie about obvious things. Mariah is a singer, she sings live every single show. Not like J.Lo. Nobody would even care if she lip-syncs her way through her residency because it won't matter lol.

I love the part about all her show has to offer is her voice. Um hey stupid that's what she is known for. Her voice has always been her marketing point from the beginning of her career. As a fan I want the voice to work. I highly doubt Celine was on stage twerking and shaking her butt. Lol.

Todd that's hard. I have one or two songs from each album that I need to hear daily. I guess it would be Faded. That song never gets old for me.

Bring back the brunette Mariah (60,255)

Just look at this, I'm glad that she wears dark eyebrows, it's so refreshing on her, she is so 2009 with that look. I wish she will continue it and eventually go with darker hair, it really brings her youthfulness.

The next era (60,252)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |
|
|
Am I the only one thinking that Mariah is going to repeat the same cycle? At first she ruled the 90s, had failure with Glitter, repaired her image with Charmbracelet then going back on top with TEOM. I think MIAM was another "Glitter" era, #1s To Infinity era has definitely for the most parts repaired her image. I hope that the next era will be her "back on top" era. She just needs an update in her sound imo.

Infinity (60,251)
by B from USA

I agree. Infinity should be the last song that sounds like 2000's Mariah. She's aged and she needs to update her Daydream and Butterfly formula. Straight forward songs with simple smart clever lyrics that didn't try to hard to be hip.

New sound (60,250)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah needs to update her signature sound by working with the producers and songwriters Frank Ocean and Miguel are working with. She should write songs for her new album with them. If she want to continue to incorporate Hip-hop into her music she's going to have to embrace EDM. I think she should do a rousing EDM anthem with Emotions vocals for her next single. She should also write with Max Martin. He's able to seamlessly adapt his writing style to the artist he's working with. The theme of her new album should be the end of her marriage with personal introspective songs like Close My Eyes, Petals, Looking In. Like an updated Butterfly. Smart clever lyrics and the best collaborators and producers money can buy that are current hitmakers. Ignore anything LA has to say. He's a snake oil sales man. Score another Epic era Mariah. If you believe in yourselve and your undeniable God given gifts you can reclaim your throne.

Only one MC song (60,249)

So if you were only allowed to listen to one MC song for the rest of your days, what would it be? I think mine would be "The Art of Letting Go", followed very closely by "Butterfly".

Infinity (60,248)
by Giovanni from USA

|

Is cringe worthy to say the least. I love my Mariah but when I first heard it I hated it. I couldn't believe the woman who wrote all those legendary hits of hers wrote this tragic song. I can understand if she wants to do songs for fun, but if they are as bad as "Infinity" don't release them and put them on a number ones album. I want the Mariah who wrote "There's got to be a way", "So blessed", "Anytime you need a friend", "One sweet day", "My saving grace", "Fly like a bird", "Bring it on home", "Heavenly". Okay you get the point but I can't help it when it comes to Mariah's body of work. These songs are amazing. She needs to take her music more seriously if she wants to be more successful. We need a good single that will get her back on Billboard. Some say they don't care, but how can you not when you have someone like Rihanna closing in at 14. I only need her to at least tie or break The Beatles' record. Only then will I be at ease and satisfied for the rest of her time in the industry. I never thought that umbrella girl who first broke out of the scene with "Pon de replay" would be the one to threaten Mariah's number ones' record.

I agree with Ardis (surprise. lol). I don't care about a hit song. Never have and I never will. Would it be great if she breaks another record or makes another number one ? It would be awesome, but if she puts out quality music I wouldn't care if she got another number one for the rest of her career. At this point I just want great music. MIAM shows that she is still capable of great music. Infinity does not showcase the talent that she has. Infinity was trash on top of trash and it should have went in the vault never to be heard. Me. I Am Infinity... The Song That Should Have Went to the Trash (lol). I also agree with Edward. Mariah has more control than we think.

What is the logic behind it? (60,244)
by Marissa from USA
| |
|
|
I really don't believe that Mariah goes into the studio trying to make a hit anymore. It almost seems like she makes trash singles just because she knows she can get away with it and still be considered a legend. Triumphant, Infinity, You're Mine, Why You Mad? Come on now. How can you listen to your own work like One Sweet Day or Emotions and turn on Infinity right after and believe that it is worthy of being in your catalog? I'm gonna need her to stop treating her new music like a practical joke because she wouldn't be laughing if someone passed her up and stole that 18 #1's talking point from her. Let's get serious.

I don't understand that logic. She has lawyers, if not the best lawyers. She knows that her music is her breadwinner and she is smart to tie it into her contracts as collateral. Hence hence, why the labels have such a hard time dropping her contract at will. They would have to buy her out of her contract because Mariah is smart to not rely on her label to make deals.

Personally, I could care less about Mariah breaking records, being current, or having a new sound. All I want is for her to make music that comes from her heart and soul. If she is writing that way, then it will be real. Why should she try to fake some new sound, just to get another hit? I love her classic songs, that are heartfelt and real. If she stays true to herself, then I will be happy. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way. Peace and love to all.

Preach. Mariah really shouldn't be afraid to experiment. She has the talent to put together genres that seem far away. Hell, she basically laid the blueprint for pop hits nowadays, she could definitely do it again. Throw in obscure, fresh underground producers, keep working that voice, and make an album full of surprises. I really want Mariah to dip into places she's never been to musically. I feel like she's playing it too safely after TEOM (although MIAM is great album). And let's be honest, all of us wants her to have more hits. Mariah, surprise us lambs.

Triumphant and TAOLG were flops but #Beautiful and You're Mine (Eternal) were hits. They charted in the 20s on Billboard's R&B charts. #Beautiful also peaked at #15 on the Hot 100 and went platinum. Album sales are down.
