I guess you're just old. Mimi L you're my favorite on this board. Keep being yourself, you are exactly what Mariah Carey stands for a beautiful person genuinely, inside as well as out.

Best night of my life (60,654)
by Martyn from England, UK

I went to see Mariah at the Manchester Arena on Friday and I can honestly say it was one of the best nights of my life. I was so nervous about vocals/showmanship etc. but it was incredible from start to finish. I reckon even Andrew will only have good things to say.

It was me that wrote the article Mara haha, and yes I am a lamb. Really bizarre seeing it on this site. As for the video L.H., I had always thought it was pre-fame but maybe I'm wrong?

I was at the Manchester show. There was no booing. If I couldn't hear it in the centre of the arena, I doubt Mariah would have heard it backstage.

Stuck in the 90s (60,649)
by Marissa from USA

What is the point of the call for everyone to get somber and serious all of a sudden? The artist that we like is a fun person. I am convinced that the people who are constantly hung up on the 90s really aren't fans of Mariah's authentic self. She has said countless times that who she presented herself to be from 90-95 was her being fake because she felt she didn't have the freedom to be herself in her career and marriage. So essentially you fell in love with an act. The somber, bleak, demure, constant ballad-singing image that people are stuck on was crafted and is not who she is. So when you want everything to go back to how it was in the 90s, you're asking her to go back to an image that was never real. Buzzwords, R&B, Hip-Hop, fabulosity, evening gowns, etc. is the real Mariah. If you like long black dresses, powerful singing, no other side projects, ballads and no buzzwords then Adele sounds like an artist more suited for you. And I'm being dead serious. Mariah isn't that girl. Of course little things MC does might annoy us (for example, I'm over "dahling"), but if no matter how many improvements she makes and success she gets you still feel like she needs a complete career overhaul then you're not a fan of the real her. I'm not saying this to intimidate anyone or be cliquish, I'm just trying to make people see that sometimes you're beating a dead horse and would be happier finding another artist who isn't constantly going in a direction that you dislike or disagree with.

I've noticed (60,648)

That there is someone on the board who low key shades Mariah in practically every one of their posts. Always putting some known or in this case, "unknown" singer up against Mariah and saying they are better. Like why do you do this? I want to know. Nobody may care but, Mariah and Patti are the only two singers who have given me chills with their singing. In my opinion the best female voices ever. The notes these women hit are simply impressive. In case you didn't know Mariah has always been able to destroy just about any singer with her whistle register. As well as having the messa di voice. Beyonce also has the messa di voice, but Mariah is above her. Another words Mariah is the "songbird supreme". Ain't nobody ever touching her.

But wasn't Mariah the executive producer of her last album? Just saying. I really could care less about songwriting credits. If it's written 50/50 why should it matter? Mariah just needs a hit. Regardless if she wrote it all herself or not.

"Mariah was never considered a serious singer/songwriter." Are you serious right now? She was never considered a serious singer? Songwriter maybe, not a lot of people knew she wrote (lambily did) but you know damn well every girl in the 90's wanted to sing like Mariah. Ian wasn't talking about how the "music critiques" viewed her. You got the wrong idea my friend. He was talking about the excitement of everybody knowing a real singer/songwriter is releasing new material. I can't believe you would even have the nerves to say she was never considered a serious "singer", like are you kidding me? The music industry gave countless awards to Mariah all throughout her first decade. She topped MTV's greatest voice in music. She gave birth to Beyonce, Rihanna, Christine, Ariana, Adele, Kelly and so much more. All female artists in the music industry knows nobody is in Mariah Carey's level when it comes to singing in the 90's. People knew her as a "singer". An incredibly extra ordinarily seriously talented singer.

Collabs for the new album (60,644)

I would like Mariah to collaborate with The Internet. The best way to describe their sound is Groove Theory 2016. Songs like: Girl, Partners In Crime Part Three, Something's Missing, Just Sayin/I Tried would give her a fresh new sound. It would perfectly pick up where Miguel and Happy Perez left off. Penthouse Cloud has the type of deep lyrics that I would like Mariah to revisit. A song about all the violence in the world recently. Check them out.

Go girl. Don't ever allow them to stop you because you are one of those few lambs that brings light and fun on this board. And just want for you to know that I will use the same profile photo like yours haha. I just can't deal with the "slayage" that Mariah is giving us these past few days. From the performances to the photo shoots and all that, she is certainly not playing around. Love her.

Re: That voice (60,621) (60,642)

I agree. What I have observed in some of her performances in this tour is I feel that she's holding back in the high notes but I know that the voice is still there. Just look at the Against All Odds and When You Believe performances, her voice is so great, even though some are lipped parts, I can imagine that if she will perform a song completely live, she can do that excellently. I realized that the AAO and WBT climax are still lipped but I'm totally fine with that because she proves to us that she can still sing those parts by serving us new renditions of those songs for the first 3 days of her tour. I believe that she's just protecting her voice and all that. I just know for sure that her voice is in better state right now and the voice that we love is now appearing, emancipating, and gearing for a comeback.

I agree. Make a stunning acoustic album with just a guitar or at most, some basic beats and minimalist production. Something in the vein of Vanishing and Right To Dream. I think she would sound fantastic.

The Boy Next Door (60,636)
by Andrew from UK

2015 Jennifer Lopez movie. In one scene early on she's on a date with someone she gets irritated with. Date: "You're a little firecracker when you get riled up, aren't ya?" J. Lo: "Firecracker?" This is surely intentional. If it was in the script originally she would surely have asked for a different word. But it's in the movie. Maybe there's just too much vodka going on here.

I am very excited to see her in Brussels soon. And her voice sounds incredible from what I saw on YouTube so far. And it seems that she feels much more secure and confident onstage since she has regained her vocal abilities. Also, I like her song selections. Of course, it is mostly hits and not fan choices as she also wants to address regular audiences.

I always liked her one word titles. Starting with "Emotions", "Music Box", "Daydream", "Butterfly", "Rainbow", "Glitter" ("All that glitters" initial), "Charmbraclet". When TEOM came out, I was a little bit chocked, she breaks the rules, with this more rebel title, but works out well on the end. After that she never used a one word title, I hope she's gonna do back a one word title, a verry powerfull one.

I don't know what 90's you are referring to but Mariah was never considered a serious singer/songwriter. When she came out, she was dismissed as "just another white girl trying to sing black" and was accused of being a Whitney clone. The critics bashed her vocals on Emotions as impressive and not expressive, calling her a showboat. Music Box was bashed for being more MOR and less Aretha and they called her lyrics "cliché". The Butterfly album's lyrics were bashed for Mariah's "10 cent words". Mariah is no longer an up and coming ingénue, she is a legendary music icon. We are currently living in a visual world, whether we agree with it or not, image is key to an artist's appeal. Even Adele has lost weight. It's nice to see positive changes occur for Mariah, even if they are superficial. Mimi L. is a girly girl, a beautiful one at that. She seems to know what she is talking about in areas of fashion, why can't she express her opinion if it pertains to Mariah? Even if you are not into the loss of weight, new hairstyle, costumes, you can always correlate these changes as signs of new music coming soon. I would like to think that Mariah still has some young fans that post on this messageboard. I'm surprised you stuck around because Mariah has been using "dahling" since 1990, like only a regal legendary vocalist would.

Fire them Mariah as quickly as you fire nannies. Hire Rachel Zoe, she's a ball of stress but she is talented.
