Exactly how I feel. Ballads seem to be what's current as of now. Mariah could definitely pull off ballads again like the good old days. Especially with a featured artist like John Legend or Sam Smith.

Well what ever chart toppings machine Riri has Mariah needs to snatch it back from her. In the words of Sir Paul McCartney "we are slipping guys we need another hit, more number ones". Please Mariah come out with a catchy uptempo summer jam. Also Andrew I do agree with you about Mariah constantly singing greatest hits. With so many top ten songs not only number ones I always wondered why she doesn't switch it up and sing other songs, even back in the 90's other than singing a couple songs from her new album she started turning into a greatest hits singer, at least after the Daydream concerts.

Top 3 favorite rap collabos (59,851)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
I know a lot of people don't like when MC works with rappers, but sometimes it turns out really good. My top 3 favorites in no particular order would be: 1. Cruise Control - with Damian "Gong" Marley. 2. Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica) - with Mystical. I love that music video by the way with the 3 Mariah's. 3. Boy (I Need You) - with Cameron. Another killer video super cool and futuristic.

Here are the facts. Mariah has been in the music industry for 26 years and has 14 studio albums including Glitter. Rihanna has been in the industry for 10 years and for a very sad reason already has 8 studio albums released. Mariah has 18 number one hits all as lead, 17 self penned and produced. Rihanna has 13 number one hits, 10 as lead and 3 as featured act. Rihanna has written and produced zero of her number ones. Sad girl, she needs 15-30 people to write 1 song and Mariah does not. Mariah has released 62 official singles to date in just 25 years and Rihanna has officially released 58 singles to date. Rihanna has sold 150 million singles and 30-40 million albums worldwide. Mariah has sold over 200 million albums and over 75-100 million physical/digital singles worldwide. In other words cling to Rihanna all you want to drag Mariah but Rihanna is a lesser to Mariah Carey and Beyonce because she has to work 3 times harder to produce and try to match what Mariah has already done. The keyword here is try idiot. Rihanna is not a complete artist. All she is known for is singles and maybe a tour that sells well but still sells way less than everyone else. Andrew you are the darkest and most fake human being I have ever seen or heard about. Aren't you in your mid 30s or 40s? Your mid life crisis must be a pain. I will send some herbal tea your way and pray that you find a hobby to occupy your useless time. I heard they have a job opening at the National Enquirer. I will put a job request in on your behalf. Celebrate on that instead of fake loving Rihanna for personal agenda towards Mariah.

You've proved my point about being a troll. You try to twist my words around. I was referring to the first chorus of My All that you are always crying about, not her lipping in general, but you knew that already. You and anyone else would be lucky to get Vegas vocals if she was singing the way she did on Valentine's day. But of course nothing is impressive to you. That's your platform. Im sure you probably could hit those notes, but do you sound any good lol? I wouldn't care to watch your video if you paid me. I have an idea for you, how about you and our friend sell your tickets, meet up at that bar you work at, and complain all you want about her. No one wants negative after negative post, I feel sorry for anyone who lives everyday talking about the negative, sounds like a sad existence. Can't say I live in Dreamville, but I certainly don't live in the Negative Zone.

The emancipation of RiRi (59,847)
by Andrew from UK

Rihanna has a big fan base. She hasn't altered anything in years. Nobody makes fun of her. Her machine is crafted to bang out popular chart hits. Don't cry foul when she surpasses Mariah with more No. 1's. Mariah has far and away more talent. If Mariah is "writing the songs she wants for the fans" blah blah and doing no promotion for anything, that's her business (although still playing greatest hits concerts over the world constantly). Rihanna is successful. It's not her fault Mariah all but gave up and self-indulged. Funny how Mariah's accomplishments are heralded but if Rihanna gets number ones it's less deserved. I must stress that I believe, as most do, Mariah to be on a different level. But she have up with this Memoirs/ Triumphant/ YM(E)/ Kitchen Window nonsense. Someone recently posted she hasn't written anything good in years. I think this thread is prominent in that argument. In saying that, the previous threads about writing summer tunes, or an old school title signature to the Mariah formula, something upbeat, filters in here. When I said "eg back to her day job" I meant it. About time she wrote something everybody can get into. Black or white.

Vegas for a long time Irish Lamb (59,846)
by Dav from Ireland

|
|
Hey Lambs. My husband, as a wedding present, has sent me from Ireland, to Las Vegas for the weekend to see Mariah. I'm a huge fan. For over 20 years. She's never had a concert in Ireland, so it's my first time seeing her live. I cannot believe this is happening. I'm packing my bag right now. Will catch the show, Saturday night. 20th of February, front row.

I totally get what you are saying. For me, even if Rihanna broke a record it wouldn't change anything Mariah has accomplished. Namely because things have changed so much in the industry it's like how can you even make a comparison between Mariah's journey and hers? I don't mean it as a dig in any way either. I don't mind a few of her songs, but I'm not a "fan". I just mean things are so different right now, even the way "Work" is charting.

Rihanna (59,843)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

|
Whether Rihanna deserves her #1's or not is an argument I will keep for another day (in case any one is wondering, I am not a big fan of RiRi). But my main point when I posted about her being in the top 5 was directed at a post I saw a while back (which was probably a response to my own post) by a member of the board (and I can't honestly remember who it was) but they said how Rihanna's album will flop and she will never do good on the charts again and I talked about how we cannot simply rule out Rihanna because she is still at her prime and she is still young. But the member went on to talk about how it is impossible for Rihanna to come back up. So now Rihanna is in top 5 with a single she didn't even promote much and like Lee said, the video isn't out yet. I was talking about Rihanna at that time because I was saying how I wouldn't want someone like her to overtake Mariah and the other party was really sure about how Rihanna won't even crack the top 10. She debuted right into the top 10. She has a big fan base.

I don't see Work peaking higher than its current peak. The song sucks. If she does break or tie Mariah's record it doesn't diminish her accomplishments or legacy. It would suck if an [censored] breaks or ties her record. Imagine the reaction of the Elvis fans will have if she ties his record after the uproar they caused when Mariah did.

I am not loving this. I don't want Rihanna to surpass Mariah because the way she is going she just might and that would be a travesty. Mariah better wake up and come up with a killer album. I don't understand this mess. Anything Rihanna releases goes to number one. Really.

Why do they award the best new artist to someone how has been out for a few years. I thought that it was supposed to go to someone who has only been out for a year or two. Am I right, how does that all work?

Of course a [censored] being the new queen, what a shame for the American culture. She already surpassed Madonna, Janet, Michael. Who cares? I rather Beyonce, but somehow [...] wants Mariah's title, turning his back on her. What can we expect from their miserable ambition? Tidal anybody?

I was also "shocked" by the picture they used on AYNAF. I loved to go to the record store and just buy the latest single (I have a huge collection), and run home to listen to the remixes. What a time. MTV was so much fun, they actually played music at that time.

I was 13 and going through puberty, so yes in a way Mariah was this sexy phoenix of a fire goddess. She still is my queen of the sun. I grew younger with her music and older with the current music all at the same time. I drooled everytime she performed and I was literally possessed. I am the opposite of a demotic possessive creature locking its head to my whole body. I am a fairy god looking for the ultimate goddess to love and drool over. It's safe to say the lambs of my land shall remain free.

I agree. Mariah needs to write more timeless ballads like Never Forget You and Just To Hold You Once Again. Adele has proven that well written ballads can succeed. MIAM was Mariah's best album since TEOM/E=MC2 but the wrong singles were chosen. #Beautiful, Meteorite, Dedicated, and Make It Look Good should have been the singles. I adore You're Mine (Eternal) but the video and the WBT comparisons killed its chances at crossover success. Mariah needs classy videos like Someone Like You and Hello by Adele. She needs to hire an edgy stylist like Eric Daman or Rachel Zoe for the next era. I want another epic era.

Meghan Trainor being awarded as the best new artist is a travesty. She's a talented pop songwriter but Tori Kelly deserved the best new artist award. She's not only a talented songwriter, she's a talented vocalist. Taylor winning Album of the Year for 1989 was expected because it was the best album of the year.

Is such a beautiful song. It's one of my favorite Mariah songs that I play all the time. She needs more songs like this for the next album. I would be happy with at least one or two ballad type songs. As well as her collaborating with an older music artist like Stevie Wonder or Michael Bolton. I'm also hoping for John Legend.

Grammys (59,826)
by Billy from Greece

Just catching a glimpse of the attendees at the Grammys this year (and the last 10 years or so) I thought I was watching a cheap gossip show, just full of people who are celebrities, known for who dissed who, instead of musicians. Go back 20, 30, 40 years ago and you'll get a real reality check. Also, what's with the ages of the nominees and winners? Are people over 30 prohibited from getting a Grammy? The industry has always been youth-centered, we get it, but this was like a highschool reunion or something. Will the business ever fix this bullshit they're creating? And the Meghan girl winning best new artist? Really?

Haha. I was born in the early 80s and became aware of her during the Music Box era when Dreamlover was released. Fell in love when I first saw her running around that field and haven't looked back since. It was great riding the crest of the wave of her popularity. When Fantasy was released it was incredible. It's sad that a generation miss out on saving money to buy her singles, walking into the record store and seeing the single cover and it being completely against your expectations (I had a mini freak out when I saw her straightened hair on AYNAF haha), collecting the records she put out in other countries, having MTV on all weekend and requesting her videos. All so accessible nowadays, but so great that she scoops up new fans with every era. Little do they know the treasure trove of past masterpieces that awaits them.
