Adam, I don't want to agree with your comments but I am leaning that way. I just don't get this ball gown, dolled up, diamonds, riches etc etc image. Is it meant to give her status? I find it totally un-relatable and not the Mariah I thought I knew. But people change. Mariah in trousers (pants, to those who don't speak English properly) and cute tops is one of the people. The girl-next-door became the woman who made it. It's her money so fair enough. Again, I'm ambivalent. The shocking Hallmark vanity close-ups don't help. It makes her seem even more detached and I'm not sure how the public is supposed to relate to it. Adele (sorry for swearing) is one of the people and she sells because of it. I know Americans respect success more so than the British so that may have something to do with it, in a cultural sense. I don't know, I genuinely don't know. I'm not hating on this. I'm just confused by it. I can't listen to the Close My Eyes type woeful songs and believe them when I see a woman clothed in riches and flaunting a ridiculous lifestyle as a public persona thing. Maybe I'm wrong. Again, I don't know on this one. Did I say "I don't know" enough? I don't know. And really sad about Celine's (swearing again) [censored] dying. Genuinely sad. Brave courageous woman. I hope Mariah called her. I am sure she did. Rather that than a pointless tweet. Every tweet makes a twat. Much love.

Making the haters look foolish (59,110)

In the last couple of years, you could say Mariah hit rock bottom. Crying on stage, struggling with her voice and her weight, and a heartbreaking divorce. So many people enjoyed pushing her down even more at this time, including her own brother, but take a look at her now. She is shining like the golden goddess she has always been. She is so inspiring, and I am so proud of how far she has come. The future looks as bright has her priceless smile. I am so excited for the future, new music, new projects, what ever it maybe. As long as she gives us her true self, it doesn't matter to me if she ever gets another #1 ever again. I love her just the way she is now. The past is over and done, it's really not fair to keep comparing the current MC to the "classic" MC. She has evolved, the best thing to do (in my opinion) is to accept her for who she is now at this moment, and just let it be what it is, and at the moment she is as fabulous as it gets. Peace and love to all. Have a beautiful day.

I agree with your comments. While I will still watch and root for Mariah to succeed if she puts out quality music, I currently feel she still does not have that spark or drive she had from her periods in her life. I'm not expecting the same drive as when she came on the scene in 1990, but I feel like she is phoning it in with the least amount of effort. I am quite surprised that the Mariah today is the same woman who said repetedly that she wouldn't sell out and that her music was her saving grace. This image she's created and perpetuates of being out of touch and uberly wealthy and flaunting her billionaire boyfriend is really quite the detour. It just feels like she's really sold her integrity. In short, I think she's amazingly talented and I'm appreciative of her back catalog of music that's she's left us for a lifetime but at the same time I feel like she's just cashing out on her fans for more money when she no longer puts out a quality product. This includes her robotic lip sync Vegas shows and inability to change her setlist whenever she performs elsewhere.

My condolences to Celine, her husband passed. She always said nice things about MC. Her biggest competitor could leave Mariah more shows to perform this year.

"Triumphant era" 2011-2013 (59,106)
by 123 from USA

I forget what was going on during this era of her career. Sometimes I wish she could have dropped the album during its original date in 2012. She had a lot of great live vocals then. She sounded rested, scaled back some of the playback, and went for vocals and sounded really good doing it. It would have been nice to hear her sing her new songs with that era's vocals. Even her stage presence had returned.

Nice to see her out there singing. She did sound like she needed a little more rest. I need her to do whatever she was doing to prepare for the Beacon shows for Vegas and the European tour. I don't mind partial lipping as long as the live vocals sound great. It would be nice to see her re-work some of the vocals to her classics like she did Always Be My Baby in Jamaica. Also, instead of lipping the bridge everytime, she could improvise like she did in this clip. In regards to her image, wow does she look amazing. She really does look like 2006 at the ball.

New album (59,104)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

|
Whenever Mariah is ready to drop her new album, I hope she gets all her ducks in a row before announcing it. What went messy from 2012-2014 was she kept uploading pictures every day about her being in the studio and talking about surprises and all, which initially got the lambs fired up but then things started to fizzle when there were multiple delays and we never got to see or hear some of the promised surprises. So I hope that Mariah keeps it hush-hush until she has the album completely ready and her singles picked out. Then she can start dropping hints on her social media just a few days before dropping the first single. No more push backs or delays if something like the album name gets leaked, no more chalking songs up as buzz singles if they under perform (in fact she has to be very careful with her single choice, so get someone young to give an opinion), no more long letter with "on the bathroom floor" moments after someone uploads the wrong track on Facebook. Everything has to be just perfect. Side note, Mariah I hope you are working on that club banger. I need a new song to jam to with my girls, I have abused ILT for almost a decade now.

Although Mariah's flashy lifestyle never bothers me (I mean the woman worked hard day in and out and earn them green papers so she can spend it, and I'd rather someone who earned it be flashy than the Kardashian-Jenners). But yes, I want her to get her fire back in her musical career. Mariah Carey can rise up over all if only she puts her all in it. I see that happening gradually since last year, but I hope during the next album release she gets everything right. I need just one more TEOM equivalent success to rub it in some people's faces who keep saying that Mariah is past her sell date. Talent wins over everything and Mariah has talent.

I feel so excited to be on this platform for the first time, where we all share diverse opinions about the life, career, legacy and style of the queen of music Mariah Carey. I've been a fan since the 90ies and will remain a Mariah fan for life. Just to let Mariah know we love her dearly over here in Nigeria.

Dear Mimi L (what's your actual name?), I actually lol'd in real life. My opinion is my own. I can vociferate about the nonsense of Hallmark and the current tragic image of being rich-beyond (diamonds everywhere, trying on jewellery, boyfriend being a billionaire) being not remotely conducive to the notion of her music and voice moving the common man (or female man), but if this is a return to the day job, if this is one final push for a legacy, I will forgive and bleat like a lamb. I want something back for my fandom. I'm owed it. We all are. A life spent supporting and defending something, or someone, deserves a last hurrah. I have suggested she should just bow out. But I also decided I wouldn't give up on her, after much sadness and soul-searching. So I'll go with it. Funny, I watched the TOTP Heartbreaker performance the other day (introduced by Christina in quite a bitchy way - did anyone else get that?) and her lip-syncing was the mime of someone who believed in herself and was working - actually working. I need Mariah to get back to her day job and work. And whilst I won't apologise for my comments, I hope one day I have reason to let the recent disappointment go. The art of letting go, eh. Much love to you.

Hi Ryan. Fun story. Are you sure you're going to a show on Friday the 19th? I'm going that weekend as well but thought she was only doing a show that Saturday and Sunday, and therefore was going on Saturday the 20th.

Vegas (59,098)

I finally bought my tickets for Vegas. Very excited. I'm taking my husband and my best friend who are both not fans of Mariah. I think my husband is a closet Mariah fan as when I play her music I catch him lipping and sometimes singing to it. Lol. My bf can't stand her but appreciates her voice and wants to see her live only to see my reaction of finally seeing Mariah for the first time in 25 years of being a lamb. Lol. Anyone else here going to the February 19 concert?

Lord yes, the TAOLG cover art is perfection. That hair is gorgeous. That hair and the hair photo I posted along with the "#Beautiful" video hair and GMA hair were similar if not the same and it was kind of her signature hair style for 2013. Like the mermaid curls were her signature for 2005 and the blow outs for 2008. I think she should cut the hair like the TAOLG. It's hot tamale.

Mariah new songs (59,094)
by Terna from Nigeria

Diane Warren hinted that they had written a hit together last year, then there's the Calvin Harris superstar track. Also songs we heard about during the Elusive era like Hope Street, Kick Rocks and a host of others (I've forgotten their titles). I have a good feeling about this year. It's going to be extremely successful for Mariah and she's gonna have her biggest era ever. Don't think this woman doesn't know what she's doing, recall how hush hush The Emancipation Of Mimi was until it exploded on the charts lol. The element of surprise is golden.

Who else is ready for a new era from our favorite queen? Mariah is looking so amazing and fresh. Her latest pics from UNICEF's ball gave me flashbacks of "TEOM". It's as if 2005 Mariah was back and on fire. I hope new music is on the way soon.

I completely agree with you. I dig the "Beautiful" hairstyle Mariah was rocking in the video. It's actually my favorite look on her. How she wore on "The art of letting go" cover is perfect. I feel Mariah is older for the straight hair. She's looking so good. I can't wait for a new era to kick off.

No but the sleek straight is a hit or miss. Sometimes it makes her face look bigger than it really is because straight hair reduces the volume of the hair and since it is lying flat, it makes the face appear bigger. For me I think she should go for her 2013 hair a little shorter and wavy, like the type she had in the "#Beautiful" music video. This is one of my favorite. The hair she had during the GMA performance of #Beautiful is similar and looks great on her. I am absolutely done with the TEOM mermaid curls though. Leave them in 2005. I also love me some blow out hairstyles like this she wore for a magazine shoot. Last but not the least, if she wants curls, the "Hermosa" video curls are the way to go, soft and sexy.
