Does it matter? (57,490) by Luke from United Kingdom
Does it really matter if some of us don't actually care she lipsyncs sometimes? If I lived in NY/Vegas I would still pay to go see her even if I knew she was lipsyncing songs. This is a woman who has saved lives by a 3 minute song called Hero. Did you know some artists draw so much that their hands begin shake and the can never draw the same way again? That doesn't make them worse artists. They find ways around it, this might lose them fans but it then gains them new ones because it shows courage and the strength to not give up. Mariah could give it all up today but she hasn't, she's persevered and found ways around her obstacales. I guarantee you if she sang everything song live now like she did in the 90's she would ruin her voice forever.

Andrew, I don't think the Lamb Bible has a chapter or verse about her because she hasn't achieved longevity and Mariah obviously doesn't know her.

Well, Walter was involved with the production of both Can't Let Go and Licence To Kill. So you're not crazy if you can hear a connection or similarities in sound L.H. That Bond soundtrack album was a staple at my house growing up, that's how come I knew that. Honestly, I would kill for Mariah to compose and sing a Bond theme song. I feel like it's going to happen eventually. If she doesn't already have one ready to go on Barbara Broccoli's say so. It should been done. The most recent ones are so morose and grey, we need a Mariah infused Bondtheme to lighten up the darkness, as only she knows how. Do it Barbara.

Re: "Studiogenic" (57,467) (57,485) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
L.H. I am in love with your portmanteau, studiogenic, so perfect to describe Mariah's magicical voice and aural presence. Your whole post is gold. Ariana Grande creeps me out. Nobody goes that far in imitation, emulation and obsessive parroting just because their team wants it. If she had been even just half as obvious with her xeroxing of Mariah's every move and inflections it still would have been too much. But when I started noticing how she answers certain questions (almost verbatim) as I've seen Mariah answer, I lost what little tolerance I had for her. People who don't have a strong and inate sense of themselves enough to rebel against that kind of marketing are not artists to me. It shows a complete lack of integrity. The very opposite of how Mariah carries herself. Even during the original Sony years, when she was put upon and suppressed, Mariah still had so much personality and a natural tendency for authenticity that her true spirit was always expressed and felt in her music, lyrics, singing live and even video performances. Ariana Grande is to Mariah what Blackface was to old Hollywood: a mockery of true artistry and I can't wait for the next "new Mariah". You all know there are eternally 12 singers waiting in the wings, ready to step into the ring and fight over that butterfly title belt. It's the kiss of death and yet these girls can't wait to make out. Wouldn't it be hilarious if Grande sang "Då That's Loverboy" rap? So meta, the earth's core would destabilise from the self reference impact. But one can dream.

Article: Here go those diva rumours again (57,483) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Typical bullshititis drabble. The anti-Mariah schemers are really pathetically desperate now. They are so scared A Christmas Melody will be good enough to be inducted into the classics that they're hedging their bets against her. Let me break it down for those of you who never get the point of these 'live-diva-sighted' "rumours". Mariah is supposedly "sleeping on the job". Hense, if the film is a hit (whether it is instant or over time), she will not be given any credit. Funny how everybody and their ego gets called the Elusive Chanteuse (a Mariah moniker as iconic as MiMi now). Yet here go those diva rumours again, not even a day since the usual suspects were all hot and bothered over Mariah's fierce and wellmannered contribution, at Diva's Live '98. Talkin about: Who the [censored] knows anymore? It's just nonsense. Just ugh. Why do Mariah haters have to be so dull and unimaginativel on top of having 0 sense of humour? The morons have the gall to complain, claiming victimhood, when I and my fellow lambs call them on one of their (many many many) hypocritical and contradictory posts from mere months, weeks and days ago. But for some idiotic reason, a charity concert from 17 years ago,is the hot topic for several days. Not because it was a historic event with amazing performance all around (which it was), Mariah and Aretha in particular, but because there is a lunatic fringe trying to rewrite history and reframe past events, two decades, a centurie and a millennia ago. All this tapdancing just so Mariah and anyone who loves and respects her can be cast in bad light? MiMi must literally know where some bodies are burried for this relentless persecution to still be going on. I don't know, but I could be right. Whatever it is, Mariah is clearly the one in control now. Good for you, tbh.

Live at Madison and Out of Japan (57,482) by Anonymous from
Randy, I am with you. Just compare the "Without you" performances at "Live at Madison 1995" and "Out of Japan 1996". She used the same re-recorded vocals in the middle. The run is exactly the same in both performances. I love MC. I love her songs and lyrics. But I hate that she over-uses pre-recorded vocals and lipsyncs almost every performance.

Re: Ariana (not a reply) (57,479) (57,481) by Philipp from Switzerland
Her uptempo songs are too EDM for me (with "Problem" being the exeption, I love that one), but I guess that's not just Ariana, more Pop Music in general nowadays.

Re: Ariana (not a reply) (57,475) (57,479) by darrian liu from taiwan
Ariana is a decent vocalist. Her lows aren't good but is improving rn, her mix is quite balanced (leaning to the headier side) but the problem is she never lifts her soft palate, making her nasal. Her upper belts are done with high larynx and closed off throat and she uses airy falsetto. Still a long long way from Mariah's glory days. I love her music though, been on the edge of my seat waiting for Focus to come out.

When they used to play Sinead O'Conor's "Nothing compares to you" or George Michael's "One more try", I thought it was "Can't let go". Only the intros sound like it.

Re: License to kill (57,466) (57,476) by Bino from
The intro does sound a little bit like Can't Let Go. Have you also listened to the closing theme to License To Kill, i.e., Patti's "If You Asked Me To"? Impressive vocals with Mariah-esque hand gestures. Sorry off-topic.

Re: Ariana (not a reply) (57,467) (57,475) by May from Denmark
Well, Ariana lacks all the incredible low notes that Mariah does. I recognize Ariana as a good singer but my problem is her tone, after a point her voice becomes unpleasant and more like a screech. I've tried to like her a couple of times but every time it's the same, it's like listening to a screecher and I end up turning it off.

Re: Concerning Ariana (57,468) (57,473) by May from Denmark
The thing is Jono, they were trying to compare Mariah to Whitney as in a powerhouse voice, but their styles were completely different, the way they used their voices was different as well and even their music wasn't alike, they both were aiming for different things. Ariana did little to no effort to sound different from Mariah at the start. Probably she didn't find herself yet and is taking her some time. But Mariah already was Mariah since that Vision Of Love. It predicted the great future, by her own hand. Btw Jono, with the mention of Whitney and Mariah (amazing duo), I went back to look for the video where both artists talk about each other and is wonderful to see so much respect and class. Here it is for some nostalgia.

Haha, I would say is true, but in that period of time so many songs started that exact same way, it was really cheesy.

Re: Ariana Grande (57,461) (57,463) (57,471) by May from Denmark
Well, her manager pushed the whole "the new voice, the new Mariah" thing when her career launched, her team probably thought it was a good idea to do the comparison. The problem is that the comparison went beyond, it wasn't just the whistle here and there and her girlie high pitch, it became everything M mentioned in the previous post, from the hair and hair color to the clothing, the movements, the odd position of the head when getting pictures taken that is so Mariah-esque. I guess somewhere along her career it backfired, because people would start putting her down mentioning all the things that she couldn't do like Mariah and as you well said Edward, Mariah didn't even feel the Ariana breeze from her side. I read once in an article that when Ariana has to do interviews (and like most artists there is a list of what to ask and what not) one of the questions the journalists were not allowed to ask was anything related to Mariah Carey. I honestly think that the whole "the next Mariah" charade fell flat after Ariana's AIWFC performance (she didn't even bother to change a single note or input her own style in the song, she was simply imitating Mariah at her best) and her attempt at making herself the new Christmas girl with her Santa song, doesn't anyone find the lyrics of the song like a rip off? It's the same message Mariah sends in hers but with different wording. Granted, at Christmas, everybody releases Christmas stuff and all fail at delivering haha. If she is changing her way, it is about time. She sings well but she has created her career on the back of somebody's else. I also think that crediting her as a songwriter, when every song she "wrote" is accompanied by other 10 songwriters is dubious, then again that's last line is just my personal guessing haha.

Ariana Grande (57,470) by Giovanni from USA
Lives in Mariah's shadow. Although she can sing, her voice isn't very impressive. (At least to me.) It lacks power and soul. She'll never have half the voice Mariah does. I like her music and think that some of her songs like "The way" and "Baby I" were number one material though. But oh well. Mariah has been the last legendary female singer. Whitney was jealous of Mariah and shaded her when she first came out. And looked what happened. They collaborated on an amazing song 8 years later. So who knows, maybe history we'll repeat itself? If Mariah starts to like her. Because she obviously doesn't lol.

Lamb Bible (well-done, with mint sauce) (57,469) by Andrew from UK
"And the devil did smite the world with Ariana, to piss offeth the lambs. And lo, it did work, as the lambs bleated in unison, for lambs need some other person to bitch about other than the Mariah. And Patti begat Aretha who begat Whitney who begat Celine and so on and so forth. Then descended God mightily from his heavens and said unto the lambs: I sent you the Mariah and you shall go forth and spread that she is perfect, that she doeth no wrong, that she farteth the fresh air you breathe." (Lamb Bible, Book of Pointlessness, Verses 1 to Infinity.) You wanna know why the nay-sayers, the negatives, the "haters" like Randy, myself or whomsoever, keep on? It's because when nonsense - actual nonsense - is spouted, because it just-makes-you-feel-better-inside, well, it's not good enough. It's a little retarded. Rather there be honest debate than total, utter, nonsense. It seems the Kingdom of the Lambs is in the keep of the self-righteously indignant, and everyone else must live in fear of labels. I look forward to a day when honest debate is free, emotions are honest and truths are discussed. Until then, people like Randy should not back off, as he has done, for fear of reprisal. [censored] that. Post what the [censored] you like. God save the queens.

Concerning Ariana (57,468) by Jono from USA
Even though I will have my issues, mainly because you can't talk about her without bringing in Mariah somehow, I will give credit where it's due. She has a great voice. Does she use it correctly? Heck no. But like others have posted, most of the blame is her team. It's not her fault that she was born too late, and is releasing music in an era where unique artistry is no longer a value. It's about being "relevant" and catching the fire, even if it burns out shortly after. That's the problem with most of this generation's pop music. It's so current that it has an expiration date. I can see it from both sides - Ariana obviously is influenced by Mariah and is a fan, but also wants to be herself. Our girl was in the very same predicament in 1990 when they were trying to compare her to Whitney. I can also see Mariah being annoyed that all the work she's put in her 25 years, is being compared to someone who's been in the industry for less than two. You have to earn your stripes. Mariah had to to finally be acknowledge as Mariah, and not Whitney 2.0. That being said I don't think Mariah has any ill will against Ariana. The only way to land on her bad side is if you screw her over, and she has yet to do that. I just think Mariah is playing it smart by not acknowledging her, only so that the media doesn't take the story and run with it and constantly compare the two. She also knows that they will paint her as the "old" one, and Ariana as the young new Mariah, and we all know that would not be ok.

Ariana (not a reply) (57,467) by Lara from Middle East
On the radio I heard a song by Ariana so I shazamed it and it turned out that it's another singer "Pia M(ar)IA" singing "Do it again". My point Ariana may be a good singer and because of that she dared covering Mariah's songs but what makes our elusive chanteuse stands out is her tone. Velvety, buttery, soothing, you name it. Her voice is immediately recognizable. That's for me more important than her range and belts. Anyone can learn to sing but not every voice is "studiogenic".

License to kill (57,466) by Lara from Middle East
I read an article that was ranking James Bond themes with the links for each song and i came across "License to Kill" by Gladys Knight. The first few seconds are surprisingly so close to Mariah's "Can't let Go". Any one else agree?

Merry Christmas deluxe vinyl (57,465) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Hey Lambs. Does anyone know anymore information about when and where the Merry Christmas deluxe vinyl will be available? The only release date I've read about is tomorrow, October 23rd in the U.K. Is it going to be released everywhere, or just in the U.K? HMV in Canada just started carrying Mimi vinyls in the past couple months, so I hope I can get it in Canada this year.
