Thanks for posting this LC. It just goes to show you that the music rags, whom are supposed to specialize in all things music, just go with whomever is popular at the time. Adele's Someone Like You really displays that a 21 year old wrote it. Had she had more life/love experience, she would realize how silly a song like that sounds like. Taylor Swift has 7th grade level songwriting. Compare her Love Story and Shake It Off to Mariah's Love Story and Shake It Off. Mariah's songs are lightyears ahead. Is Taylor biting Mariah song titles? Several songwriters have come forward saying Beyonce does not write and has her name in the credits for the financial gain. Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna's Express Yourself with Born This Way. The lyrics to The Roof craps on several new artists whole discographies let alone songs. I have no issues with Madonna being on a list as she has been in the industry a long time. Watch when she gets another hit a la TEOM, everyone will be praising her when right before they were saying she was washed up.

Why you mad? Um, because of this (56,017)

Not disappointing? Look I don't want the webmaster to savage me again, because I know he hates doing it, but the remix is an unadulterated mess. It's a joke. Is there a market for this? Do lambs like this music now? It's bad. It's awful. And I think most people know it. I genuinely think less of the the other artists for taking part. It is honestly the worst thing MC has ever released. Ever. Full stop/period. It makes the original sound like an Oscar winner. What's the point of it? Throwing salt into the wound of the original. It's just awful. There are bad MC songs that we all wonder about. And then there is this. Serious questions have to be asked about what the fantasy she is doing.

I can't remember a time when Rolling Stone had ever been kind and supportive of Mariah. Look at the reviews they did for her albums. The most she ever got was 3.5 out of 5 stars if I remember correctly, and I remember her most successful albums received even lower ratings like e.g. TEOM. It's like they have it in for Mariah for some strange reason.

Add Keith Urban to that list Tevin. Ironic isn't it? Meanwhile Mariah who actually sings more live the longer she is in the business and sounds absolutely magnificent doing it because she has taken exceptional care of her instrument and has great vocal techniques is always the one the media trolls falsely uses as example of someone who supposedly can't sing anymore. If singing were an Olympic event she would have had 7 Gold medals for her every vocal peak by now. Who else has been singing on her octave levels for 25 years and has an opera singer for a mother to boot? This is why Mariah needs to be a mentor to other musicians and it's a crime she was robbed of that on her AI stint. Perhaps she was overqualified considering who they let on the judge's panel. Mariah should seriously entertain the idea of teaching proper voice care and professional singing at Juilliard or Carnegie Mellon at some point. Or maybe a docu-series of 10 episodes on PBS, MTV, VH1, BET or HBO and a book. I'm sure Patricia could coauthor as she too has demonstrated brilliant preservation of her voice on Come All Ye Faithful. My 2¢.

I also heard about it and it is absolutely disgusting. Who makes these lists? Mariah's achievements are far bigger than what the people named on that list. I am shocked honestly. This is a new low. Mariah may not be at the top now, but if one looks at her overall career, she has made a bigger impact than anyone on that list. She has influenced both singing and songwriting. What nonsense is this.

I never take anything in magazines, news sites/papers or even sites like Billboard very serious anymore. Gone are the days where talent was the main highlight in a career in that industry. Put a little botox in your lips, dye your hair black, insert some implants in your ass, five layers of makeup and be prepared for effortless fame and to be on the cover of Vogue and Rolling Stones. Like the quote Mariah used in Meteorite "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes." It's true and disgraceful really. Although people like Adele are truely talented, people like her are a minority in that business. I think the reason Mariah is put down so much is because she has always followed her heart and stayed true to herself in that business, when others let the big power people tell them what to do and beat them down. She has stood strong and I believe a lot of the power wolves don't like it. From what I've seen in a lot of documentaries it seems that unless you do what you're told, you can expect have things made harder for you.

Rolling Stone/Telegraph "greatest" lists (56,010)
by LC from USA
| |
|

I don't know if you guys saw, but both the UK Telegraph and Rolling Stone magazine published "greatest of all time" lists recently, and Mariah is not included in any of them. The Telegraph published two, which were the 50 greatest female pop stars of all time and 50 greatest female songwriters of all time. Mariah was not included. Rolling Stone published the greatest songwriters of all time list. Mariah was not included. I am disgusted. People like Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Madonna made the cut but the woman that sold 200 million albums, wrote and produced more number 1 singles than any female artist in the US and has two songs of the decade wasn't good enough? In what world is Adele a better songwriter than Mariah? In what world is Taylor Swift a better songwriter than Mariah? In what world is Lady Gaga a bigger star than Mariah? This isn't to discredit any of those artists because I respect them all, but this is just unbelievable. The best selling artist of the last 25 years and most successful female artist of all time is not featured on lists that are supposed to be unbiased and factual? This is disgusting. This just shows how there is an agenda to brush away the legacy of Mariah Carey. Call me delusional but when someone has this level of impact on music and culture, they deserve to be revered and respected. She gets so little respect in this industry even though she's outlasted and outsold more than half of them. Her influence is undeniable. Yet it is continuously downplayed. I can't believe this shit. Wow.

Why You Mad live performance (56,009)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|
|
"Why you mad" is not disappointing but I don't see it as a #1 hit I guess (if that's their target ) because for me, it's too much. The beats are too loud that it overpowered the vocals and I wish Mariah only include Justin and one rapper. T.I.'s verse is like a bad-rush addition to the original MC-Justin-French collaboration instead of improving it, but otherwise, the song is really radio/club worthy and suits for younger generation. But I wonder when they will officially release it so I think it's a good idea if Mariah, French, Justin, T.I. will premiere it live in VMAs, it could be really epic if they perform it together. If that happens, they must think how to deliver the song for it to become an impressive and cool performance. I suggest Mariah must wear an outfit like the one she wears on Kelly and Michael but a black color, sleeveless and overlay black pants with her hair straight (like on Triumphant MV). Imagine if Mariah will wear that in a performance, it can really bring back her hotness and will leave the haters in awe.

Megan Trainer (56,002)
by Tevin from USA
| |
|
|
So I heard that Megan Trainer has cancelled her North American tour because of a vocal hemorrhage. What is with every new singer today, are they not being vocally trained properly? Sam Smith, Adell, Megan Trainer, John Mayer. Yes the have great voice and can sing, still they don't do the amazing vocal acrobatics like Mariah and Whitney and singers of the past, yet they are so plagued by vocal problems. This is a testament to how Mariah's voice has for the most part remained intact.

This is wild. Just for fun I clicked the link to the first news page and the first article is dated Friday the 13th of August, 1999. Well, today is also August 13th. Is that true Eric, or am I missing something? I'm slowly getting to learn and enjoy the new format even through the minor glitches but if I could make a most humble request it would be to please add Mariah's twitterfeed on the side of the newspage. I kinda miss MCA's signature news widget and that's the whole reason I was even being nostalgic enough to click on the farthest page. Anyway, congrats on managing quite perfectly a well of knowledge, one of the most comprehensive anywhere this side of Google for Mariah. That is a touchstone for Lambs and civilians alike for all these years, especially if today really is an anniversary milestone. God bless. [Webmaster: There was something wrong with the sorting of articles, the first article is dated Monday 28 May 1990.]

The discography. Thank you, thank you, thank you for putting it back up. So many of us appreciate it. I would be so appreciated if you could update it. Aren't the only official label releases since your last update (which was "Playlist: the very best of Mariah Carey"): The Essential Mariah Carey (no singles), Me I am Mariah... The elusive Chanteuse ("#Beautiful", "The Art of Letting Go", "You're Mine (Eternal)", "You Don't Know What To Do"), and #1 To Infinity ("Infinity"). I understand the disappointment in the physicality to music evolving into some thing less tangible, and not as enjoyable to interact with (I have the same frustration). I would personally love the updated because this was the one site that had such a comprehensive list. Please don't give up.

The last thing I'm going to do is give away more intellectual property. I've literally been robbed. I had an idea for something and someone took the exact same thing, and that was a little unnerving. I can't tell you because it's too big a scandal. The person literally lifted the entire concept, and the title, and the visuals. I just couldn't believe. But it's OK, it wasn't meant to be, obviously. Or maybe it's meant to be again under a new headline. Those are her words. Her praising Beyonce is shade. Mariah is classy. Mariah still has the best voice. Her voice is etheral, its a gift from God.

64 Videos top ten consideration (55,975)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|

I love this ranking of 64 MC videos. I'm sure we would all have a very different order if we did it all from scratch ourselves. For me, i'm thinking "I Want to Know What Love is" at 60 or "Almost Home" at 56, what? I love those videos far more then others lol. But instead of doing our own top 10 lists, I want to suggest something different. Starting at #1, go down the list, and the moment you come across a song that you do not believe should be a top ten consideration, eliminate it from the list. You can't rearrange the order (for example, you can't put Fantasy above Heartbreaker), this is not your order. I'm more interested in seeing what songs out of the writers top billing would you say deserve top ten consideration. Here's my list, eliminating the songs along the way that I do not believe deserve top 10 consideration: 1. Fantasy 2. Heartbreaker 3. Honey 4. Boy (I Need You) 5. Up Out My Face 6. Obsessed 7. Touch My Body 8. It's Like That 9. There's Got to be a Way 10. We Belong Together

Honestly I have never listened to Taylor Swift or know what 1989 sounds like. I was basing my post on what was being discussed on the board. I got the impression Ms. Swift did a demo thing. My mistake, I should have done research first. True, had Mariah done it first it would have been noticeable. However I doubt it would have had the cultural impact if you will that Beyonce did. I keep having a memory that Lady Gaga was going to do a visual album as well for Popart but it never happened. That's neither here or there. I still listen to MC's debut as if it just came out a few days ago and I'm sure I'm going to get hell from my kids when they're old enough to develop musical taste and tell me to get with more modern artists and stop being so old fashioned lol. Anyway I still stand by the idea that Mariah should surge forward. Beyonce is not going to be last "artist" to drop that type of record. Someone else will do it down the road.

Your post is indeed good, but I just wanted to leave a possible scenario that came to my mind after I read your post. Although I agree that Mariah shouldn't abandon her plans if someone else does it before her, however, if her plan was to drop a surprise album and Beyonce beat her to it, Mariah was better off not trying to follow up to that. We can't argue that in current music scene Beyonce gets more exposure than Mariah and Beyonce has a bigger fan base currently. (Mariah is definitely superior to Bey in overall success, but I am talking about current situation.) When Beyonce dropped this album, the world almost stopped haha and everyone went crazy to buy it. Even casual listeners. That combined with no streaming and all made it mandatory for people to buy it if they wanted a taste of it. It was the most talked about album that year and sold millions. If Mariah pulled this stunt after Beyonce, she would have been ridiculed to the extreme since the sales would have been much lower (being realistic). They would start drawing comparisons, ridiculing her and what not, so I am glad she didn't do it after Beyonce. Doing it before would have been different because it wouldn't draw comparisons. As for Taylor, I don't think Mariah was concerned with Taylor. Taylor's album came later and Taylor didn't do any of the "demo release" things.

Stolen idea, depends how you look at it (55,970)
by Warrior Butterfly from USA
| |
|

If Beyonce stole the drop idea, Billboard magazine did give MC the cover story for promotion for her record. If it was the Taylor Swift 1989 thing, she could still release the demos as "fan favorites or request" and make it her own. She released The Remixes because the fans kept asking for it. This is a part of Mariah's personality that can irk me. Once she feels someone beat her to the punch of the something the whole idea gets thrown out the window. Be it a surprise release or sharing demos which according to TM were scrapped on purpose to give Mariah the best launch possible according to him, she's been around long enough that a release such as the demos could work. Or even a surprise album. Yes it be reported as MC steeling from Beyonce, point is why should she feel defeated? Keep moving forward and go for it she would earn major respect from people by just saying screw it and being fearless.
