My last post / Pretty Girls (53,247)
by TheOne from Philippines
| |
|
|
Didn't I just say Style? Lol. I meant Bad Blood. I must've been high today. Btw, I just saw the Pretty Girls music video. It's not that bad. I think it will attract teenagers that will boost it to chart. Btw, according to Wikipedia, PG would debut within the top 40 at BB Hot 100 because of its high sales (without the music video). IMO, I think it would do better than infinity because Iggy is popular nowadays and Britney is hot. I'm not saying that MC is not hot, but I think PG is more teenage-friendly than Infinity. I'm still looking forward to the Infinity single and I wish at least it could rock the Top 40.

Infinity (53,246)

If Infinity does plummet this week it will bounce back. It's catchy. My brother said it's been stuck in his head since the show. He also said it's her best song in a long time. He's not a fan, he likes the classics. He was pissed that Boyz II Men didn't sing One Sweet Day with Mariah. After I told him about the diss he said: Why would he say that about her? He said I don't blame her. Even if they wanted to, if I was her, I would never sing it with them again. Anyways that Trey guy is one of the best singers I've ever heard.

I hope they are not abandoning the single, because really nowadays more than album sales, single sales gets more highlighted and MC last few singles have vanished without a trace. If they want to re-establish MC's credibility, a hit single is mandatory. I'm not saying she absolutely has to get a #1, I'm just saying that they should attempt to get it to the top 20s. People wouldn't care if a hits compilation album does not do well but if her single bombs, it'll gain be yet another bad mark on her career. This single is the first song from Mariah to kick of her new era, this needs to work. I am also worried about the chart position this week. I am hoping the various appearances next week will help it somewhat. I'm not worried about Pretty Girls, but Taylor Swift is coming with a huge promo plan for Bad Blood. Darn it, just when I thought Taylor Swift was done with her album promo for now.

Weird strategy if there's one (53,243)
by Luis from Spain
| |

Assuming that Infinity was released like two weeks ago and has already plummeted, do you think that it has any opportunity to creep on Billboard? The airplay has been low-key up to now but at least she's perfoming at the BMA plus Kimmel next week. Sales have been moderate, but I guess that many fans will be waiting for the album to buy Infinity. I mean, the only actual reason to buy this compilation is because of her new song. Maybe Sony is focusing on her album rather than Infinity. It's clear that this "era" (if it can be named as such) is centered on making money from Vegas, as if her album is just another promotional tool to gain media atraction and selling tickets. Also, why is the vinyl planned for late August? Very strange. Despite I buy all her cds, I recognize that I will be buying 1s To Infinity just to support her.

Infinity at BB Hot 100 (53,241)

Do you think that this song will stay at the Hot 100 this week? I'm worried because it weakens drastically each day this week. I hope the music video comes out as soon as possible. The views in YouTube does not move forward gradually than it was last week. Pretty Girls and Style will come out sooner.

Billboard Awards logistics (53,239)
by T from

I am loving the Mariah performances in Vegas more specifically TGIFY. I really wish she would strip down her songs more frequently as her voice takes center stage and you are really able to feel the emotion. I am very excited about the Billboard Awards. I'm curious if there was any news in regards to her performing live or it being taped. There is no way she can perform live at the awards if her own show starts the same time. The only thing I can think of is if they streamed her performance live from the CP. I was really hoping for her to perform live from the Billboard stage.

Is it just me that notice MC is singing that song with gusto like she found a whole new meaning to the song? I remember in past interviews she indicated that she didn't relate to the song. Well I guess now she does: "Nothing in the world can take us back to where we used to be." She may have written this song years ago but I can imagine whom she's singing it to. Like Snoop Dog said "Baby don't cry."

The AI debacle / Nigel, on the off chance you're reading this (53,236)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

|
Mariah would've done great on her own. Nicki also would've alone. But AI really screwed up by putting them together. There's a reason why The Voice and most other singing competitions with a 3-person panel only stick to just one female (and probably 2 in a 5 person panel). But no, Nigel - Mariah and Nicki weren't responsible for stealing the focus from the contestants. You and your team did, for doing the dumbest promotional strategy ever in the entire show's history. Focus on the feud. I highly doubt that either Mimi or Nicki's camp were the ones who gave instructions to zoom in on their faces to show each one's reaction while the other one was speaking. Like shining the spotlight on two middle-aged women throwing epic shades at each other was ever an effective way to sell a reality singing competition. This wasn't any of the Real Housewives shows or The Bachelor. AI was a show that has produced some legit talent like Kelly and Carrie. So no, neither of the two are to blame. You ignited the spark, then fanned the flames.

The new single (53,235)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I was wondering the same Nikki. Although I hope to the good Lord that this is not dubbed a buzz single again. Every single of Mariah's singles starting with Triumphant have been dubbed as a "buzz single" with the exception of #Beautiful. I will even put YM(E) in the buzz single category because aside from a few radio interviews, it didn't have any promotion. Everytime they released a single and it flopped (mainly due to it not being promoted) it was dubbed a "buzz single", a "song only for the fans" and what not. You are also right about the remixes. Not a single word on it or when the video will be released. I don't understand what they are upto. We'll see a lot of Mariah starting next week though, so I hope she has something planned and will actually give this song a fair chance.

Australian media (53,234)

I just wanted to have a rant. When Mariah had a bit of a mishap in Jamaica, most news outlets in Australia reported on it. I think it was even on the TV news. When Mariah's vocals leaked from the AIWFCIY performance, again, it was all over the news. Last week, Mariah opened in Vegas. She was amazing, from all accounts. Not a mention of it anywhere in the press in Australia. So annoying. That's all. Bye.

The missing single / weird strategy (53,232)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
This is the first time in forever and a day where Mariah released a single without so much as a word about a remix. The release was weird too. It was made immediately available to download, but then not released to radio for another week. Even then, the radio was only the A/C format which isn't going to get you a hit. They don't have the music video finished yet either. I'm starting to wonder if this was released to get people's reactions and downloads. Then, perhaps, a remixed radio friendly version will be released to pop radio and the like with the music video ready. I began thinking that because folks were talking about the over production vs. Mariah's vocals on the track. Maybe that really wasn't the entire finished product? Or, simply, this was drawn out the way it was for the sake of buzz. Once the music video is released then she'll actively promote it on shows and sing it live perhaps. Maybe the Billboard awards will kick that off.

This is the reason a Mariah rockumentary is needed (53,230)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End

There is always someone trying to paint Mariah with a negative brush and because she can't address every single instance most of them get away with it and it's maddening. Now's the perfect time to get her own version on record because it's a pivotal moment in her legacy as an artist as well as in her personal life. Part of TEOM's success was that there was a lot of candid behind the scenes documentation going on. I hope this HBO special comes out on DVD too for us international fans who may not have access to American cable unless of course, Team Mariah can ensure the imminent viewing dustribution of it in our respective countries. And why not make the DVD available for future pre-orders?

If Mariah did end up sinking AI (which she didn't and it's ridiculous to even state that), she did the world a favor. That show needed to go down way back. It stopped being about the contestants long time back, what with the Simon-Paula feud, the JLo-Steve clash and what not. So if MC brought down AI, she should be thanked. That show was a waste of airtime either ways. Bye Felicia.

Question for webmaster: censoring (53,227)
by Ardis Logic from Earth
| |
|
|
Just a polite question, no dis respect what so ever. I noticed on my comment about "AI blaming MC" that my "WTF" was edited out, yet another member who commented on the same topic spelled out the full phrase (f*** y**) and it was not even censored. Why is this? Also sometimes I will use slang like "thank ya much" or "y'all" (because that's how some of us talk here in the southern states of US) and it will be corrected to proper English, why? [Webmaster: Fans from all over the world visit this website, that's why I prefer proper English instead of slang. I also prefer no cursing, but if I would censor this from message 53,223, the first sentence would be unclear. In your case, it had no extra value.]

The miscalculation of Mimi (53,225)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
The AI producers knew exactly what they were doing when they tricked Mariah into signing on to be a judge on the premise of having a traditional three person panel. For them to then do a switcheroo adding Nicki to the panel knowing full well there was bound to be awkward tension is just plain evil. Because if they were expecting Mariah to be as ratchet and immature as Nicki it completely backfired. That's what you get for playing dirty. No one can tell me that whole thing wasn't a set up by people who didn't want Mariah to be a successful judge. A certain ex-Sony employee was in the media casting negative aspersions on her stint as a judge when it was just a rumour. But he of course had nothing but praise for JLo who couldn't pass for an amateur singer at karaoke.

That is so cool. Brett is a great director. You basically got to meet two of your favorites under one roof haha. I saw a clip uploaded by Gilles on twitter which showed the third take in full. I was wondering what they have in mind for the music videos. Since we now know of six scenarios. One is the scene in front of the dressing table with the bulbs (I forgot what they call it) which is a lot like ISIL, the second is of her sitting on a chaise lounge/divan. The third is of her sitting in front of another mirror, eerily reminiscent of WBT. Fourth is of her walking towards a car and sitting in it, while her partner helps her and then runs to the driver's seat (this is also similar to the WBT end scene). The fifth is shots of her running around with the lights illuminating her hair. Sixth is the shot taken at the Vegas show. So I am curious to know what the total product looks like. I also heard in the clip that Mariah keeps thanking the audience again and again even after the curtains close. She is sweet.

Dear Nigel (53,223)

With all due respect: fuck you. American Idol was already a shitfest for a number of seasons before you hired Mariah and Nicki in an attempt to boost ratings. Maybe if the show didn't allow tweens to block vote and turn the competition in to a beauty contest and sending truly talented singers home, maybe Idol would still be around. There's a reason why people like Kelly and Carrie are big, because they were rightfully good. I stopped watching the show because the same old boring cute white guy with a guitar kept winning, even when they weren't clearly the best. Remember Kris Allen? Adam Lambert actually lost to him in Season 8. Guess who we hear about still. True talent speaks for itself, and Idol was way off the mark because it allowed people with no musical talent to vote for their winner. What was the point of having judges if their input didn't matter in the end? And let's be real. Mariah didn't need this show, she is way above it. You needed Mariah. And you could have had an excellent season if you had only hired her, and not the other. "I didn't know she sang I thought she rapped or... whatever." For a show that was about vocals, you really shot yourself in the face by hiring someone with no vocal talents alongside a goddess like Mariah. So please don't blame your epic failure on Mariah who actually had the talent and credibility to bring to the show. You were your own iceberg that sank the ship. Good riddance.

Well she ran through the 19 songs live, then they asked as many fans to stay for 3 takes. Brett Ratner was there which was really cool because I grew up watching the Rush Hour movies and I respect him a great deal as a director. Anyways, Brett was talking as action was being filmed directing the crowd to go nuts and whatnot. The studio version of Infinity was playing and Mariah lipping just for show. Pretty much the same thing happened 3 times. They'd start from the top, dark then pull the curtains back as the song started. I remember Mariah constantly thanked the crowd for staying between takes. She's such a sweetheart.
