Queen of the remix (48,439)

Only one problem (48,437)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
What made her amazing from the start was her perfectionism. Her technique, skill, and abilities were amazing. It's ironic that it now is her undoing. In the spirit of perfecting, she's dubbed a lot of performances where it wasn't necessary. She constantly has tracks going on in the background which is also unnecessary. It appears she's trying to make up for her lack of a supportive team by pushing herself to the max. Opera singers generally give themselves 2 days between performances and they're not traveling in between. Mariah's upcoming shows are back to back. There is no vocal rest. Her perfections are being used for her appearance and studio tracks instead of her vocal maintenance and dependable crew. If she'd switch the former for the latter, she'd have another prime.

AIWFCIY is #8 on Swedish iTunes / The Beacon (48,435)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
But Merry Christmas is down from last week's high of #12 to #62. Still, it's remarkable how more people downloaded All I Want For Christmas since the Rockefeller event. It had dropped to just #17 right before ask hell broke loose. I guess Mariah will just have to take it any way she can get it. Also, BET need to televise at least one of the Beacon Shows or better yet, live stream it.

Re: Baby and Grammy continued (48,434)

No doubt. The funny thing is when TEOM emerged she had no real competition. She had 50 Cent at the height of his fame and that was about it. People were struggling to hit double platinum and she whipped them all out of nowhere. She broke new radio and Billboard records and #1's. The album wasn't only popular, it was diverse. There was no way the Grammy could refuse her she was too celebrated, noticeable, and had no competition. In '95 Mariah had to compete against Alanis for Jagged Little Pill and severely over exaggerate her success to shut Mariah out. U2 is always a favorite of the Grammy. It seemed they could fart into a mic and they'd be given a Grammy. But, I think 1 year they were actually skipped over. I was shocked MC wasn't at least up for a couple of nominations. Mariah makes great music so maybe simply doing what she's known for isn't impressive. This album is more "safe" and middle of the road for her. I think she'd gain more recognition, even from the Grammies, if she stretched her wings a bit further. Jazz, Blues, Motown, etc. We haven't heard Rock from her since You Need Me. I know I'd like to hear a song by MC where she actually stands her ground and has an opinion on something.

AIWFCIY and feminism (48,433)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
I'm a feminist, but I have to disagree with all of that. Mariah never specifies a "man". She continually says "baby" and what she would give up to have that person with her. This could apply to any significant other, hetero or not. I had a friend trying to get pregnant with her husband and they sang this to her belly. They literally wanted the baby for Christmas. There isn't anything sexual in the song at all and doesn't even mention kissing. My kid neighbor sang this to her baby brother over the phone because she was going to miss his first Christmas. This song is pretty universal and unspecific. I do believe that's another factor to its longevity. It doesn't discriminate.

Mariah and longevity (48,432)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
The worst thing about the public and media is that they have the attention span of a gnat. You can sing 9 times beautifully, but the 1 off song is what will get heard around the world. It doesn't matter if you redeem yourself by singing the next 10 perfectly, because they will be ignored until your next screw up. There's nothing to prove when the positive results are ignored. But, the best thing about the public and media is that they have the attention span of a gnat. People think she's "over" every time there's a bump in the road. Mariah's lasted this long because she makes great music that connects with the masses. The second Mariah has a great song in true Mariah Carey fashion it'll be a hit and she'll be back on top. The only reason Mariah is talked about, even badly, is because she's still relevant. It's the reason she's a huge draw at Rockefeller each year. Her audience is still here. She also has 1 thing no one else alive does. A recurring annual classic that begets great press for her each year. That will forever give her an open door.

Nikki and Grammys (48,430)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|

It is quite odd how thoroughly Mariah was shut out from that particular award, isn't it? No offence to Mariah's debut album or TEOM but she's had better artistic albums even by her own measure. Butterfly [...] now MIAMTEC comes to mind. Not even a single nomination in the R&B categories for 2015? Who else is when bothering to make the kind of grown R&B records that Mariah does? Very few, that's who. Everybody else sound like, everybody else. That's why I was over the moon when she did #Beautiful with Miguel since he's one, if not the only, other artist actually making real R&B. I used to wish they'd collaborate back when I first heard Adorn. They need to do more songs together. Also, Tommy apparently wanted to fashion his relationship with Mariah based on Celine [...] Rene's as well as Gloria [...] Emilio's. But both Celine [...] Gloria have a healthy power dynamic and autonomy with their husbands. There's is no boss telling their spouse what to do, say, act, wear, sing, write or who to socialise and work with in their relationship. Considering how desperate Tommy was, about keeping Mariah insecure, I'm not surprised about why she was shut out of The Grammys for the entire run of their relationship. If you get it, you get it. If you don't? Oh well.

Never count her out (48,428)
by Jono from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah Carey has always been a warrior. From her difficult childhood to her emotionally abusive marriage, she has survived. From the issues in her family to her breakdown, she has come back. She made one of the greatest comebacks in music history in 2005, after years of being written off. If anything, it fuels and inspires her. The latest debacle is negativity that isn't new to Mariah, so she will prove everyone wrong soon enough. And to all the haters across social media that rubbed their hands gleefully as they pounced after Rockefeller, well soon you will be eating your words. The silence as Mariah began to kill it during the Elusive Chanteuse Tour was deafening. Be warned.

Beacon Theater / Abraham and B (48,422)
by Edward from USA

An only Christmas songs concert? I can't wait. I'm anticipating 10-12 songs and a couple of guests, maybe John Legend. She'll redeem herself by completely killing AIWFCIY, perhaps with a mini a cappella intro. She has to start the first show on a high note literally. First impressions are attention grabber, and since in 25 years this is the first time she's playing these types of concerts, everything needs to be on point. Abraham and B, congratulations on my part. There's nothing like being in love on the cold holiday season, cuddling is much needed. With some relaxing splashes, and "Subtle Invitation" or "Everytime I Close My Eyes" playing in the background of course. In the middle of all the chaos on this board, seeing two lambs in love brings joy to my heart.

The View 2009 (48,421)

This is the clip I was talking about the other day. I really wanted it to be a good interview because Mariah looked really pretty but it was just so uncomfortable to watch. It wasn't that bad but the whole vibe felt condescending with the smirks on their faces. I'm sure you all have already seen this interview but I'm wondering if you guys see what I see, or if it's just me. I watched a few more Barbara Walters clips and it seems she's that way with a lot of people. Good for ratings, I guess? I just always thought she was a classy and polite interviewer. One time I saw her talk about, how she knew Betty Ford was an alcoholic, but didn't say anything. I remember thinking, "What a classy lady." Then I watched this interview and it took me by surprise.

B, I couldn't find what you're talking about anywhere. That surprises me because the ABC clip Lee TS posted yesterday seemed pretty fair. I saw the clip of Nick promoting his children's book on GMA and he wasn't trashing Mariah, so that's cool, and the host wasn't prying.

Honey (Classic Club Remix) (48,419)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
Up until today I had never listened to a dance mix in its full entirety. I thought it was mostly music and no vocals. But today I happened to stumble upon the Honey (Classic Club Remix) and I was pleasantly surprised. This remix is amazing. Mariah's vocals are flawless. The belts are resonant and her upper register is crystal clear like glass. The background singers are working their butts off on this song trying to keep up with Mariah. Mariah made this into a completely different song. Now I truly understand why they call Mariah the queen of remixes. I know the next CD I'll be getting for my Mariah collection, Remixes.

I've had a few splashes (48,418)
by Jay from USA

But I had to post something. I just asked my brother if I'm a little obsessed with Mariah. He thinks I am. The thing is he is not a lamb. Funny thing is he does know every lyric to the songs on Mariah Carey, Emotions, Music Box, and some on Rainbow and TEOM. He can't help it since he's inadvertently learned them as I listen to them. I can't help but be infatuated with this woman. She was written the soundtrack to my life. I love her music and her lyrics. I feel so bad that she is being torn to shreds in the media and everyone prefers to believe the negativity. No matter what she goes through, no matter what she achieves, no matter how many times she fails, she has provided timeless music with encouraging lyrics. We must not forget that. She has been a part of our lives through music. Lets "[...]" Let's remember why we fell in love with her voice, her music, her personality. Her lyrics have saved my life. And I'll forever be a lamb and so grateful for her god given talent. I love her.

Thoughts (48,416)
by LaCoya from USA
| |

I was just thinking that since Mariah is a a self proclaim superstar and has sold millions of records, I believe it is time for her to experiment with her sound. I know she wants to please the fans, but if we are true fans we will support her in any way. For example, she should come out with a gospel inspired album, since she loves that sort of thing. Also I heard others mention on this messageboard about her coming out with an acoustic album or jazz album. Maybe just the piano and her. I believe now is the time to do it. P.S. Do you think it is time for another MTV Unplugged special? Just thinking.
