I don't think anyone said that Rihanna is even quarter as good as Mariah. The girl can't even sing. However it is true that she is the strongest contender to take Mariah's #1's record. It doesn't matter whether she got her #1's by singing a hook on another person's song or whatever, it will be counted as her #1. So that's a fact. She is young and has time to scoop up more #1's. Let's not forget that Mariah grabbed 3 of her #1's in her mid to late 30's. While Mariah still will have a magnificent legacy, she will no longer be able to promote herself as the artist with the most #1 singles because this along with her "over 200 million albums sold" and "the voice" are the key points her promoters use. So that's why Rihanna is a risk. No one is thinking she is better than Mariah so calm the eff down. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 12:48)
Mariah and the Grammys (50,026)

Here's my issue with the Grammys. It's a hate/love/hate relationship. I'm not upset that Mariah hadn't won as many Grammys as she should've but I'm more pissed at how she was cheated/treated/tricked by the Recording Academy. So this is my conspiracy theory. At every award show, at least 3 people know who's going to win the award. Back in 2006, all of her R&B categories were presented in the pre-telecast. At some point, someone in the production knew that Mariah wasn't going to win SOTY, ROTY, and AOTY for WBT. At the same year, two of the Pop categories were presented and Kelly Clarkson won and got on stage and made a speech. Yes she deserved it. I don't hate on her. Mariah didn't have opportunities to go on stage to accept and make a speech. In fact, she hasn't had any acceptance time since 1991 for her first album (by the way, that album is so much better than Sam Smith's and his first single). It's so messed up that it happened to her. And the year after, how conveniently Mary J Blige's R&B categories were presented on stage and she won for BWY. So either the producers knew that she wasn't going with for SOTY and ROTY or they did that on purpose. Then in 2009, Mariah was invited to perform at the Grammy Nominations concert. Everyone knew that if they got invited to perform, they would at least get 1 freaking nomination. Nope. Not Mariah. She opened the show with CBPCH and went home empty handed. Most people expected that she was going to get ROTY for TMB or something. And the rant continues. And yet she's still gracious and grateful to the Recording Academy. She interviewed for them for American Idol and then for #Beautiful. It's also for her to promote but still I feel that she's being used by them. And here's the breakdown of Grammy nominations that I think she should have won. I don't buy that vote-splitting theory. VOL should have won for ROTY and maybe AOTY for her debut. OSD and WBT should have won for ROYT. Here's why. Sometimes, the Grammys' SOTY goes with message/theme ("From a distance", "Change the world", "Daughters", "Sometimes you can't make it on your own", "Royals", etc) or a powerful ballad ("My heart will go on", "Need you know", "Rolling in the deep", etc). VOL lost to Bette Midler's "From a distance" and I can see that makes sense but it's a better record than Phil Collins for ROTY. Mariah's debut is so much better than most artists' first album. She was robbed. In 1996, OSW should have won for ROTY. Hands down. For WBT, I can see why it lost to U2 for SOTY because the Grammys went for the message/theme song and they had less writers than WBT. But, it should have won for ROTY. It was the biggest record that year. She was robbed again. How often have you heard it over Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Kayne West's "Gold Digger"? Yet they blamed it on the vote-splitting. BS. P.S. I'm secretly smiling inside that Beyonce lost because I want Mariah to win first. Mariah Carey's career is defined by her voice, collaborations, her fans, personal life, and the media. We never look at Mariah the human. Perfection is not always warranted. We cant expect her to give us 100% every night after 25 years. People here keep on acting entitled to know everything and always try to reach for something to talk about. [...] She doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. She doesn't really care to speak to the media nor the fans about her personal life. That's called being classy. Mariah has always been mum about her personal life, pictures excluded. All of a sudden some fans don't get what they want and they go to her personal issues to attack her, then try to mask their claims as constructive; Please. If you don't like what Mariah carey is doing, find someone else to like. Mariah will always be relevant because she is not defined by one group of people, unlike most of today's artist. We should all try to focus on something that's actually happening longterm, like Vegas. I can only name 4-5 shows Mariah supposedly lipsynch within the last 3 years versus the many times other artist do on a daily basis. They have no backlash but when Mariah does, it's like, [...]. The blue/purple dress (50,022)

No that dress was a hot mess. Nothing about it was good. It wasn't a proper fit, I don't know what the designer had in his vision but the whole waist area seemed like a lot of material scrunched up together and pulled back. The whole dress basically looked like a satin bed sheet was taken and wrapped around Mariah and they knotted on her shoulder in a huge bow, and then cinched at the waist to by scrunching up the material to fit her waist line. It's a very bad gown to say the least. The only good thing about the gown is it's beautiful color and that it covers the boobs. But Mariah has had better gowns in similar category, the best I think would be the plum-maroon gown one shouldered gown she wore on AI, and she had the gorgeous old Hollywood glam hair going on. Lamb or fan, I believe we all know why and when we became fans or lambs which ever best identifies the reader. Mariah is not the only artist to lose or gain fans through a career. I think the cycle of people that come and go is a natural occurrence for any entertainer. Their are those of us that prefer classic Mariah Carey (the Columbia years), there are those that prefer Mimi (Island Def Jam to today). These two incarnation are what appeals to the audience be it image, voice, style of music being produced, live performances and so on. Something from these evolutions either drew people to her or away depending on personal preference. When Butterfly was released I remember a lot of people though she went nuts and abandoned ship. Others this is when Mariah was introduced to them. A version of her that was more urban and modern so it reached a younger audience. Same can be said with Mimi, some left some joined the ride. I wounder if any of the new observers when ever they came along has ever done a full examination of her 25+ year anthology as entire body of work. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 5:27)

Rihanna is 26, not 24. Technically she only has 10. Live Your Life, Love The Way You Lie and Monster are only features. She also wrote and produced 0 of those 13 songs. Rihanna has a good voice but even if she scores more number 1's, Mariah's legacy will never ever be touched. Ever. Please don't ever think that Rihanna will even come close. Mariah wrote and produced all 18 except one. She co wrote and co produced every single song in every album, makes you realize how much of a hard worker she is. And the great thing about those number ones is you know it's really Mariah's heart and soul. Rihanna has a great ear for music but she gets by, by singing other people's songs. What will happen if she hits 30 and is not favored by producers anymore? Mariah was there from the scratch to completion of every song. Rihanna will never surpass Mariah's legacy as a song-writer, producer, vocalist and an inspiration. She actually mentioned she looked up to Mariah all her life so that's good she's following her footsteps, but please, there will never be another artist like Mariah freaking Carey. I don't see what all the hype about that performance is about? I'm not impressed. Definitely not anywhere near as good as '05's BET Blueprint. That has been Mariah's last strong performance of "VOL". I mean she really "sang" that song. Also, I don't understand why Mariah would release a new version of a #1's album? That's not going to do a thing for her. She needs a whole brand new album. And like George stated when he asked what is she doing, I hope she's working on her voice and with some producers. I applaud how she lets lesser females like Beyonce catch up and take her spotlight. With her illuminati self, Beyonce is no where near as good of a singer as Mariah. Or as talented. It took about 17 or more producers to make Beyonce's last album. That's hilarious. Watching her (as I said to Bill the other day), it feels like she's doing her best to cope through this time in her life. Although she puts on a smile and she might seem to be having fun and smiling up there with all those ad-libs, it truly feels like the opposite is Mariah's reality at the moment. She's human, not a machine - and as you said emotions can take their toll if we let them. Nathan was getting at all of this with his comments. Mariah is the only one who can go within and make a choice when she's ready, and she might not be ready yet. But, when she is, the world will know it. No excuses just the truth. People forget Mariah is human because her voice is out of this world. People forget playback exists long before Mariah came into te industry but seem to only see her use it. People forget Mariah went where no one ever went but they are always so eager to break her records. People just forget all your negativity may affect her but that doesn't mean she'll listen to you because she is a woman who owns her life and always will do what she wants, despite your hate. I'm sorry for the ones who are stoping to love Mariah because you'll never find another one like MC. We should not be concerned about Beyonce winning a Grammy. She only has 5 Hot 100 hits and is not even close to MC. The real threat is Rihana. She ties Michael Jackson with 13 Hot 100 hits and she is only 24 years old and has a long way ahead. If she gets 4 more number 1 hits then she will tie Mariah. She cannot sing as well as Mariah but her hot beats and modern sounds with great producers have resulted in her success at such a young age. Katy Perry has 9, Beyonce has 5, Lady Gaga has 3. What concerns me for Mariah's sake is that Rihana is releasing a new album now and may score another Hot 100 number 1. I don't know why Beyonce keeps on winning Grammys with only 5 number 1 hot 100 hits to her name. It us unfair when compared to Mariah who has 18. Seriously own it, girl. Will's posting of VOL proves with proper care, MC can have that voice shine once again. The ad-libs were too much for me. But, her voice is not gone. I post the video from the 2006 Grammys. Watch the notes she hit at 1:42-3. That's the attitude I am talking about. MC needs to command the stage once again. As far as walking off WBT? Yikes. I'm sorry, but a lot of her fans could fake singing Fantasy better than MC. That's not a good sign. MC came back from faltering in 2001. She can do it again. Celine Dion has been in the spotlight for over 20 years to and her voice is strong. She lips and uses backing tracks during her concerts too However, you don't see her having vocal struggles on a consistent basis. Shoot, she still uses a vocal coach to help keep her voice in top shape. If Mariah doesn't have a vocal coach, maybe she should hire someone. Is Mariah an alcoholic? I don't think so. Could she lay off the splashes a bit to take better care of her voice? Yep. The quality of her voice was undeniably better when pregnant with her twins. Take care of your voice, MC. I found this video on YouTube. It's pretty funny to watch. Just goes to show that you don't even have to have a good voice to make it in the industry. They can make anyone sound good in the studio. Then when it comes to live performances many artist fail to live up to their own studio hype. Mariah's marriage was imploding while she was working on MIAMTEC. The lyrics are the writing on the wall. I think she postponed the album because of her issues with Nick. Her confidence was shaken by his betrayal. Her voice continued to improve as the Chanteuse tour went on and then she nailed her Beacon shows. The only really bad performance was Rockefeller. She was lipping at Jamacia Jazz so we don't know what state her voice is in at the moment. (Tuesday 10 February 2015; 15:46)

I haven't seen that video before Lee, thanks. Cry is such a wonderful song, some of the songs in that album are real master pieces. Contains lots of her signature melodies, her unique style always shows. A shame such beautiful songs are like hidden for the general public now because the album fell in obscurity. It's like Glitter, just because it garnered bad fame due to the movie a lot of people don't even give the album a chance, I think Glitter was a phenomenal album, lots of danceable songs and up lifting beats, also a whole new theme for Mariah and in that era she looked her sexiest and probably her only "raunchiest" too (if we could put a name to it) with all the buttocks coming out of her shorts, the see-bit of boobie coming out of her crop tops and the super extra tight skimpy suits, sexy over the top poses and the tan lines (exclamations) I think it's the only time I've ever seen her so extroverted, and yet, she never got to the Rhianna or Miley raunchy level. Mariah needs to rediscover herself, find herself a new era, enjoy her age, her kids, find passion for her own music again and be the protagonist, I feel she gives too much space to others lately in her own songs. She needs one big collab/duo and the rest signature solo songs. I still feel Triumphant was a waste of a great song, the parts that she sings are so good, that song had potential. Thank you very much for posting those videos. I was wondering when someone else was going to upload the rest of her catalog of the night. The sound was great, better than other clips out there so no worries about it. Now I understand what was that candy she ate in the middle of the "Shake it off" lyrics, before hitting "My All" she said she was having some medicine for her throat. It was obvious her voice was gone that night and cracked, her chest vocal was fine for some of the songs, she just couldn't go high and was somewhat off tune for some time, in almost all the lip synch parts she was late to pick up the lines that night. I don't know anymore what exactly is going on with her voice but I wished she would be publicly sincere about it. Sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. It's clear emotionally she is very hurt still, I guess doesn't help, the adlibs at times, the change of lyrics in some songs to fit her current mood, etc. give a lot of hints. Hopefully for the Vegas show her voice will be on point like in the NYC Beacon one. I agree with Shelly that her blue dress was very pretty, I liked the back of it. I loved very much the see-through black dress she had, she is looking very fit. Her "Make it happen" performance made me remember the 2009 Today Show one where her voice was also in that state, she avoided the power notes and let the choir take over.
