I recommend you to watch this clip from Celine Dion training her voice and explaining how she warms it up.

Pop album (49,982) by George Golden from UK
I don't know what Mariah is doing, Rhianna is really trying to take her crown of number ones. I just hope this doesn't happen because it will be a travesty. Her new song with Kanye and Paul McCarthney is gaining ground. Mariah can't think outside the box of hip hop anymore, it's just frustrating. Since 2007 there hasn't been one smart move, it is either [...] part two to infinity or rent a rapper song, awkward videos, tacky clothes or bad live performances. She needs to come out her bubble, times have changed. Her last three albums have been the same kind of songs it so frustrating. Someone please come to this woman's aid. [...] was a nice change but no promotion, Beautiful was soaring until the video came out and we all know how that one went. Meteorite was fantastic but no promotion. If she released a pop album she will be back on the map and that's the honest truth. After [...] she should have switched back to pop instead of continuing with hip hop to this day and it so tired now its been beaten to death. I hope and pray Mr LA [...] works his magic on her so we can have Mariah back.

Fantasy (49,981) by MC1989 from Spain
This performance is so f*cking great. Mariah needs to watch these performances and visit a vocal coach. She needs to train a lot and readapt her songs to a lower key. You can't pretend to sing like you are in your 20's when you're 45. It happened to Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin etc. Big great divas who kept it real and sang live always, and of course they sounded different after decades in music business, but they gave and give their all when coming to a stage. Mariah still has a great voice, but she needs to train a lot. She's refusing to be operated from nodules, which would be the best thing for her in a long term, but thinking in short term (and thinking in the Vegas contract - no time for recovering from that sort of surgery) the best thing she can do is train. Exercise her voice everyday with an expert and rehearse each song a lot. Go Mariah, you can do it. We don't want you to sound like in 1991. We want you to be real, sing from the heart and change the key of the songs if necessary. We want to see Mariah the performer, not just the studio Mariah.

Grammy's (49,980) by Otti from Belgium
One thing I know, B is overrated by the Grammy's. How can a song like "Drunk in love" win a Grammy? She's even not singing but talking in that song. Panting through stupid lyrics. They give Beyonce all the awards just to be politically correct. You know, she is this black female singer. Mariah sings her lungs out, and get no any recognition. They give Grammy's to autotune singers. I don't get it. Ironically B was a look-a-like of Mariah at the Grammy's.

Mariah on SNL performing "If It's Over" (49,979) by ADAM from USA
Thanks TJ for sharing that clip. I recently discovered that performance and was blown away. It's my favorite live performance of hers. She is so confident and her growls and belts are so epic. If there was one clip that personified all her talent it would that SNL clip and the Vision Of Love performance from GMA, where she's wearing a suit jacket and matching skirt. I wish she'd re-watch those clips and become inspired to perform in basic, simple way again where the focus is on the music. No distractions from hair and makeup, just the on heat of the moment.

SNL If it's over (49,978) by TJ from Norway

Just for the nostalgia. I love this version of If it's over. There's no doubt that she was the best vocalist in the 90's. Too bad something is wrong these days (since 1997). I don't understand how people say that Fantasy is too hard to sing live. That's a lie. It's also sad to read that "lambs" think it's ok for her to lipsync in concerts. That's like being a blind cow.

MCs was there. Lol. Not literally but everyone had a MC look. It was actually as if they said the theme for this evening ladies is Mariah Carey. I mean almost every popular female had a Mariah look, even Gaga. I loved it.

Therapy? (49,976) by THE TRUTH from USA
Ardis, you really seem like you have some issues that need to be sorted out elsewhere. For some reason you are obsessed with Mariah's family life and speculating about drugs, her brother and sister, relationships, etc. Certainly you have one thing right. Any family where a mother calls the police on the daughter who supports her lavish lifestyle is dysfunctional. NY Post: "The police blotter item in the state trooper barracks at Sommers, N.Y., the town where Carey's mom Patricia lives and where Carey went after melting down at the TriBeCa Grand hotel, shows a call for help from Patricia Carey at 10:19 p. m." Didn't Alison's book mention Mariah finding her mother drunk and unconscious on the kitchen floor? Let's hope everyone gets the help they need.

You know that's funny. Last night I watched Mariah's "We belong together" performance at the Movie Awards as well as the one on Oprah. And I love both of them. She looked beautiful confident and slayed. But I think she lipped the climax in both performances. However I like her performance at the Movie Awards better. I loved the hair and red dress. "We belong together" is a masterpiece and it's when watching these great performances back in '05 that I know Mariah still has it in her for another comeback and hit song. She just needs to really put her writing skills to use as well as working with other great song writers and producers. And she needs to promote like crazy. Go on every show there is and be everywhere. And I need to apologize for the mistake I made in my post. I could of sworn I typed "older" instead of old. Mariah is technically still young. But glad you agree about the covering up the boobs part lol.

Destructive relationships (49,972) by Ardis Logic from Earth
So the point I was trying to make before all the criticism started was "if" Mariah's brother was abusive to her as a child, and her father was not in the picture, this really explains why she has such a hard time finding a good partner. Staying in a toxic relationship with someone who is or was abusive to you is very bad for your health and well-being. Which leads to denial which leads to drugs, alcohol, food addictions, ect. to help deal with the pain you carry with you daily. Maybe her brother never did anything wrong. But certainly MC grew up in a dysfunctional family and not dealing with those issues will make the rest of your life full of more drama and issues.

Grammys (49,971) by JAXGH from United States
Mariah doesn't even care for the Grammys. Ever since they jipped her with Daydream, she knew this "award" show was extremely political. She's never put any faith on it. It's not even about music excellence. Because if it was, Butterfly would have won every single category. Undeniably one of the greatest albums of all time. Also the most underrated. It kind of irks me how Beyonce has 20 when she steals other people songs and take credits for song writing (If I Were A Boy, Irreplaceable, Smash Into You, etc.) and people treat her like she's the queen when really she's the queen plagiarism. I respect her for singing live but stealing and making money out of other people's music and claiming it as your own is actually far worse than lip syncing.

Shelly re Annie Lennox (49,970) by Kenny from Canada
With all due respect, considering how Mariah has been sounding and performing lately, do you think she could sing and perform as passionately as Annie Lennox did last night? I don't know.

The politics behind the Grammys (49,969) by Jono from USA
I know I've touched on this before in terms of Mariah (as well as many other legendary artists - black artists) never getting their dues, but it's a bigger problem than just Mariah. The issue is the bias and politics behind this awards show. Yes Beyonce has 20 Grammys, but 17 of those have been for R&B. The hard truth is that when it comes to the big three categories - Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Album of the Year, a R&B/Hip Hop artist pretty much won't win. Save for OutKast and Lauryn Hill, an "urban" artist has rarely won in those categories. Mariah is urban. No she's never done something like Drunk In Love, but because of her look and musical style, she will always be put in a genre. Look at WBT. Biggest hit of 2005, nominated for both SOTY and ROTY. However it only won for the R&B categories. Last night Beyonce lost AOTY to Beck, who has a solid if unremarkable album. Meanwhile Bey's album release was an absolutely significant moment in history, from the music videos to the production to the surprise drop. It was the album of the year, if we can define that title. But Beck is the safer, "more for everyone" choice. Bey went home with 3 Grammy's - two for R&B, one for sound production. See the trend? The year 21 (Adele) won, an even higher critically acclaimed album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye wasn't even nominated. It all just comes down to politics. This is how someone like Taylor Swift has an AOTY and not Mariah. Just think about it.

JaJazz was amazing (49,968) by radhames from Curacao
It’s funny because I’m reading all these post saying her performance at the Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival was a disaster. Have you guys been there? [...] and she was amazing. Her lip-syncing Fantasy was indeed a fail. There were some people standing next to me that were saying they couldn’t believe she was lip-syncing. But that was her first song. The others songs she sang amazingly. The sound was great. The crowd loved Vision Of Love. I also love how she sang We Belong Together and Always Be My Baby differently. Yes, the climax was lip, but all the other parts we’re sung live. After seeing her live for the second time since The Adventures Of Mimi, I will undoubtedly go see her again in Vegas this summer.

Seth M (49,967) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I mainly agree with your post. The only thing I disagree with is that I don't think hip hop ruined Mariah, it introduced her to a new fanbase and personally I kind of really like the hip hop Mariah. She somehow manages to blend in seamlessly into this genre without looking like she's trying too hard. It seems to come to her so naturally and I love her hip hope flavored songs so I am glad she ventured out, not that I don't like the classic MC ballads, I love those too. As for stage performance, Mariah needs to stop allowing that Rae Rae to choreograph her. She adds absolutely nothing good and she's got MC stuck in the same routine of "hip sway here", "run hands down the side of your body there", "a little finger snap", "the TEOM pose" and other usual ones. Also I hope MC puts in a little more thought on the stage presentation and stage lights. As for her outfits, I agree with the others, the boobs should be covered up a little more and she should try out different clothes. Perhaps sing Bringin' On The Heartbreak in full rock star attire at one show? I don't know. Anything at all.

Favoriet look and more (49,966) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
A favorite look of MC's was 2005 Fly Like A Bird. I loved the long flowing skirt with a V neck top. I though it was very elegant and mature looking fitting for any age. Youthful but not trying to be too young. Same with the red dress at MTV Movie Awards, very nice. Mariah used to sing her songs without in-ear monitors but for large stadiums and arenas. It's practiced to prevent hearing loss from what a I read also so that musicians can hear themselves separately from what going on around them. Over the years ear pieces have began to serve for other purposes. I would love it if Mariah Carey did a Micheal Bublé. For his encore he "unplugged" literally, no in-ear monitors, no wires pulled them through his suite. He sang his heart out. Amazing visually and sounded great while impressing the crowd. This clip is not from the show I attended but supports my idea.

Mariah's stage performance (49,960) by Anonymous from
I agree that Mariah needs to change her image and become classy as she used to be. Think of the Daydream and Music Box era where she was untouchable and dominated the radio and charts. The whole hip-hop thing tarnished her image. It really resulted in many fans leaving. Her stage production and background dancers are embarrassing. It has no class and the dancers seem to look like friends drunk on a house party. If Mariah can somehow make reference to the Las Vegas performance of Celine Dion and Sarah Brightman and reference her stage production towards presenting classy shows. Sarah Brightman is much older than Mariah but look at the way she sings and performs live. Her shows are always sold out and she is not as popular as Mariah yet she delivers. Irrespective of her personal differences with Walter Afanasief, she should really consider doing a couple of tracks with him. I am not a fan of Big Jim Wright, please see his mini performance on stage when Trey introduced the band members after Mariah sang "I'm That Chick" in the Shangai show last year. It is embarrassing and not good for Mariah's image. She should actually get rid of some people around her who are leaching off her and hire people who are committed towards seeing her successful again. She should also reference current trends in music right now if she wants another number 1 hit. Maybe try EDM and work with different producers with modern sounds, yet still staying true to R&B.

Re: (49,948) by Abraham (49,955) by Dove from USA
The Jamaica dresses weren't what I expected someone of her caliber to wear, but they weren't completely horrible. I didn't hate the You're Mine video, it just needed more of a storyline. She looked really pretty though and the lip synching actually looked believable. I think Mariah would look great in something like what Taylor Swift wore at the Grammy's last night when she introduced Sam Smith. (Not sure if she wore that all night.)

I don't know what videos you're watching but she's terrible at lip synching even in videos. I wish she would just act some skit out in a video and not lip synch.

Grammys and all (49,952) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I miss seeing Mariah at major award shows. I don't know why she isn't attending any of these. Her WBT/FLAB performance at the Grammy's still gives me goosebumps. Those are times she looks so alive on stage. Everything about that show was perfection, the dress, the hair, the show. Then the WBT performance at the MTV movie awards, she looked gorgeous. The My All performance at Divas Live. I love seeing all the major artists looking up at her in awe while she is on stage. Also why doesn't Mariah do more looks like the one she did for Obama at the inauguration neighborhood ball during 2009? That look was all sorts of perfection. This is the performance for Obama incase some people didn't see it.

Luke and Mariah's Elusive Grammy Academy support (49,951) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
It's not whether or not Sam Smith is warranted 4 Grammy awards for his album, it's whether or not Mariah should have had more than 5 Grammy's after 25 years of releasing stellar work continually. Just the fact that the Grammy Academy didn't make it their mission to feature Mariah in this year's show is very telling. They simply do not want to celebrate her if they can get away with it. Grammy recognition and awards are known to boost album sales. It makes me period that Mariah has managed to sell albums in the 200 millions with very little support from the Grammy institution. MIAMTEC which is Mariah at her best IMO, better than TEOM, didn't even get a single nomination. That's highly suspicious to me but also expected. Mariah knows this already, 3 of her Grammy's are the blood of rocks. In fact, I'd venture to say she's more likely to win a prestigious acting distinction before the Grammy's give her any proper recognition, let alone a new Grammy. It'll be an Emmy, Tony, Oscar, SAG Golden Globe or what have you and I am totally here for it. Hopefully she'll just stop submitting her work for consideration all together. She should start giving out her own awards for musical excellence, like ABBA's manager Stig Anderson did in 1989. Today the Polar Music Prize is one of the most prestigious in the world, it's like winning the Nobel Prize. Just a thought.
