Feeling kinda torn (48,122)
by nancy barnes from Georgia

Hi Mariah. I just want to say that I have loved your music since I was a little girl and I still do. Matter of fact you and Whitney Houston are my all time favorites ever. But I am just so torn about you and Nick. It would be so wonderful if you and him could get back together. I really was hoping that your marrage with him would make it. Anyways just my thoughts. Happy Holidays.

Black Widow (48,121)
by B from USA

I'm watching MTV this morning and if Mariah had released Thirsty as a single, with a great video directed by Brett or Paul, it could have been as big as Black Widow. The similarities between those songs are obvious. I can't believe Katy Perry wrote part of that song. She must of have been listening to Mariah for inspiration, lol.

Well (48,116)
by Lee TS from USA
| |
|
|
I'm sorry but if you can't see that Mariah enjoys her splashes of festive celebrations then I can't even know what to say. Like hello, she coined the word splashes. I think lambs have skirted around the idea like, "Oh she sounded great during MC2You when she was pregnant" etc. I mean, that one time when she gave that speech with Lee Daniels, ok they were celebrating, fine. But moments like riding an elevator complaining about the horrendous lighting with a glass in hand, or downing a glass right before going on stage, and having drinks in every freaking radio interview. Her voice has lost a lot of its ability even with studio recordings. When I first heard TAOLG it took me forever to get used to her voice, it sounded so chipmunk-ish the way she was singing. And I remember hearing One More Try and thought what she could've done with it during the Music Box era. It's little things like that I guess. I just hope she's doing everything to protect and care for her voice.

Era (48,114)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
This era is similar to the Charmbracelet era because both were difficult times for Mariah. I can understand why some people didn't like Charmbracelet. The most common complaint being that she barely raises her voice above a raspy whisper. I don't understand why people, especially fans, don't like this era or album. It's a return to form for Mariah. #Beautiful was a hit and the album was well received by critics. Of course the single choices and promo left something to be desired and that can't be denied. I understand why Mariah didn't promote this album. I don't blame her. I think she can easily overcome this minor setback. This era hasn't tarnished her legacy, she's still Mariah Carey.

Mariah's voice (48,113)
by LC from USA
| |
|
|
I totally agree with you guys. We know Mariah's voice isn't the same, even she knows that. Why else would she lip sync? She knows that consistently singing those upper belts she's famous for will damage her voice incredibly. Look what happened after 96. We can stop talking about it. It''s been 18 years since her vocal peak. She still sounds incredible today. And, what's most impressive? She still has all 5 octaves. Did you know she sang her lowest live note in her career on this tour? F2. That's lower than most males can sing. Also, she chirped an E7, something she hasn't done since Charmbracelet or earlier. I know that compared to the 90s when she was truly the greatest singer of all time, she isn't as good. But, after 24 years, her talent is still formidable and on a good day (or bad day), she's still the greatest voice in the world.

What Mariah can learn from JLo (48,112)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |
|
|
Why the Mariah-is-a-lush innuendoes weaved in with backhanded compliments about her voice? Why do people spread malicious rumours with no basis in reality? Mariah is in great shape vocally and always has been. The only difference is that the frequency of her live performances has increased magnanimously from her debut to now. There is a difference in texture but that has always been true from era to era as well as the fragility of her voice being an issue. That's part of Mariah's charm in the first place, that neither her music, lyrics or vocals sound the same year after year. We all have our favourite albums, eras, live gigs, looks, collaborators and whatnot but it should always come back to a genuine love of MC the artist and not who's cool to Stan for at the moment. Criticise her all you want but don't use lies and rumours to bolster your claims. It's pretty low the lengths some people will go to to put Mariah down and slander her. To what end? If you really want to lavish praise on a "singer" who doesn't drink any alcohol at all? Your best bet is actually JLo. I've heard it's done wonders for her voice. She doesn't have any vocal nodules either. Yeah, good luck with that.

Where are you Christmas (48,111)
by Mara from United States

I would give "my all" to hear Mariah's version of this song. I know there were some legal issues with TM and that is why Faith Hill recorded the song. Too bad it couldn't somehow leak online or she couldn't perform it at one of her Christmas shows.

Raging alcoholic (48,110)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
"Control"and "self-discipline". Really, *guys*? Personally, I haven't seen any alcohol in Mariah's hands to jump to that conclusion. There's no pictures of that to suggest it either. "Alcohol" will dry out your chords, but you'd need a lot of it with lightweight wine and champagne to sound like that. I have a hard time believing as a full time mom of two toddlers she's getting shit-faced. I doubt she needs the extra added rumors from her own fans for no reason. The only thing we know is that she was having vocal issues that have been improving. What is less "Hollywood" and more likely is vocal maintenance. When she's taking her kids around the world into malls and pizza parlors, exactly when is she getting vocal rest with 2 days in between shows? An insomniac with toddlers and traveling between shows while divorcing. She must get tons of sleep. It's going to be more than 1 element to get where she started at in this tour. It's completely unfair and unwarranted to chalk it up to drinking. What has she been seen drinking onstage? Water.

Reverse Charmbracelet era / similarities (48,107)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
Has anyone else noticed how this era almost like a reverse Charmbracelet? Charmbracelet was trashed by critics while MIAM was received rave reviews. MIAM the tour started out with bad vocals and with each show the vocals got better. Charmbracelet tour started with strong vocals and ended with strong vocals. Charmbracelet had heavy promotion for what was considered a flop album with bad reviews. MIAM had little to no promotion for what is considered a flop album with great reviews. Both tours were in the fourth year of the decade. Hopefully both eras have similar endings were Mariah scores a top 3 hit in the fourth year of that decade and then goes on to release an album that will sell millions of copies and once again let her claim the throne as queen.

Mariah's voice (48,105)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
Jon hit the nail on the head with what he said about Mariah's voice. It's not gone, it's not as strong as before but definitely not gone. That was proven not only with Jon's video but with this tour. I think Mariah drinks a lot more than she used to. Maybe because of marital problems I don't know, but I believe it's taken a toll on her voice. She probably does lack a lot of the discipline she had earlier in her career. I don't think she does the vocal rest or humidifiers as much as she used to. I do feel like it was getting stronger with each concert show though. So maybe there's hope.

Writing credits (48,104)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
Does anyone know the true writing credits for Mariah's music? On the internet it says all songs with Walter A. are cowritten. In CDs it says that Mariah wrote all lyrics by herself and he came up with the music. Later albums like TEOM have all songs as cowritten. This I don't doubt because she collaborates more now. Mariah once said that she would come up with melody and then call in a pianist to play chords for her as she sang. She would later go home and write the lyrics. If that was true why is Walter A. considered a cowriter on most of her early albums?

Can Mariah still handle it live? (48,103)
by Jon from Netherlands
| |
|
|
Most of us accept Mariah's voice is not as good as it used to be but the "Always be my baby" segment at minute 7 made me think for a second that her voice is actually better now. Unfortunately the "Obsessed" segment took that illusion away. I do believe (as many others) that without the drinking and with a lot of discipline her voice could remain outstanding for the rest of her days (not far from what it was at her prime). I think our Mimi lost a bit of discipline and ability to sacrifice herself for her voice (the drinking is undeniable). It's still her choice and she has the right to exercise it but it makes me sad. The last tour proved that when she felt her reputation could be in jeopardize she immediately uped her game and regained some discipline (I assume she took better care of her voice and controlled herself a bit more). Some people when criticized get depressed, Mariah gets to work and that's why she still has a lot to offer.

Your idea is perfect. I loved it. Both the suggestions were awesome and so different. Disney and other animated movies are really doing well right now and giving artists a lot of exposure like Pharell for Despicable Me. It could really give Mariah the platform to gather new fans and also show people how diversified she can be. I would love to see MC in a glamorous action role. There were rumors long time back that she was being considered as a bond girl and what not, I don't know if it is true, but yes, I would definitely be the first in line to watch MC in a big budget action flick.

Disney (48,098)

G.G., I think your Disney idea is genius. I think the general public sees Mariah as too predictable, so a Disney movie would be a great way to shake things up and become even more relevant than she already is. This could be her new niche. Maybe if MC starts doing children's movies the "eternally 12" thing won't irritate people as much lol.

MC's next ventures (48,097)
by G.G. from USA
| |
|

I would like to see Mariah team up with Disney and do a movie, like Frozen with Idina Menzel, where she voices the main character and does the entire soundtrack. That would get her name out there, big time and it would get the young kids interested in Mariah's music. I would also like to see Mariah do a huge blockbuster action movie. Like a Marvel studios type of movie, where she plays an Agent M. from the Honey video type of character. We already know she can do the dramatic roles, it would be nice to see something a little different from her.

Apart from Mariah, Mary-Ann has worked with two other legendary divas: Whitney (as I mentioned some time ago), and Diana Ross, on the latter's 1999 great "Every Day Is a New Day" cd. Hm, interesting.
