Happy new year (48,914) by Otti from Belgium
Personally, I think it's not necessary to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her debut album or 25 years in the music business. I prefer for Mariah to work with CD singles. You know, release a single song is better than releasing a whole new album. Since the music industry is all about trends and image she has to work with a good producer and feature with a hot name, then promote like there is no tomorrow. Once she is back on top of the hot 100, then release a second single, and later a whole album. Ofcourse with hot video clip (like Honey, Heartbreaker). I remember when [...] came out, some people thought she was a new artist. And that is what we need. Start from scratch. Mariah has left manny projects like MC=E2, MOAIA, MIAMCTEC. Albums with potential hits, especially MC=E2 [...]. One more thing. I would not mind an album like [...], you know, with all the number ones, with some new tracks, and some covers. I remember when Ones came out. It was my chance to know Mariah better, I never had heard songs like Someday [...].

Cover songs / Marissa (48,913) by G.G. from USA
I love your list Marissa. A few of the songs I'd like to hear Mariah cover:
1. What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
2. Stand By Me - Ben. E. King
3. Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
4. Talkin bout a Revolution - Tracy Chapman
5. Stay - Rhianna

Caesars Palace (48,912) by Stacey from USA
I disagree. I don't think doing some shows from time to time would be admitting defeat. I went to Celine Dion's show during her first run in 2004. It was awesome. Every show was sold out. You had to get tickets fast or you lost out. The key is doing it right. Celine Dion had Fraco Dragon, creator of Cirque du Soleil in charge of the show's direction. If you have the right people, right idea, it can be big. Celine's fans flocked from all over the world to see her in Vegas. Mariah's fans would do the same.

B / Marissa (48,911) by Abraham from USA
I agree, what difference does it make, right? It's still her voice. I like your post Marissa. Those are some great songs. You have good taste in music. The song from Deborah Cox is one of my favorite dance/techno songs. I know it from the "Fired up" cd. I think Mariah would do a great job. I've always wanted her to do a dance type song. But she isn't into dance and techno music. Another song I wish Mariah would cover, or was hers is "Unbreak my heart" from Toni Braxton. I honestly think it should have been hers. But aside from that, I like your dream cover songs.

Jazz album (48,910) by Jon from Netherlands
Agreed Shelly. With Mariah singing LOBL and DE on tour it seems her musical taste of late might be going more towards Jazz (at least I get that vibe, otherwise why sing LOBL?). I love her melismas but her subtle renditions are equally mesmerizing and I feel like as I grow older I'll be liking them more and more. But what about Mariah writing her own Jazz songs? I didn't know LOBL and thought it was an original (I know I know my bad). It had a Mariah feeling to it (just a little too sweet but it could be a Mariah song). If Mariah could give me a smooth Jazz album to listen to on a late night car ride I would be so happy. She doesn't have to do a formal album. Just do a concert and release it for the fans. Rearrenged songs would be great but I would love original ones. Something emotionally raw like Don't Explain. Simple lyrics but with depth. Underproduce the hell out of it and focus on melody and voice. Something like Nina Simone.

Dream cover songs from Mariah (48,909) by Marissa from USA
Note: This is an idealistic list. I'm not taking into consideration what notes are difficult for her to sing or not. In a perfect world, these are the songs I'd love to hear her cover:
1. Nothing Even Matters - Lauryn Hill & D'Angelo
2. Angel - Anita Baker
3. Lead Me Into Love - Anita Baker
4. Nobody's Supposed To Be Here - Deborah Cox
5. Ribbon In The Sky - Stevie Wonder (This must happen.)
6. Free - Deniece Williams
7. Stay With Me - Sam Smith (If Mariah did a cover of a recent song I think that would be great for her career. She could win over some of the younger generation.)
8. Beautiful - Tweet
As you can see, I love when Mariah does R&B. What would you guys like MC to cover?

Who cares? (48,908) by B from USA
I don't care if a live performance is live, lipped, or dubbed. It's her voice regardless and unlike the stars of today she can sing.

Mariah in Vegas / The Weekend (48,907) by Abraham from USA
Mariah is way too legendary for Vegas. Besides, she's not even retired. Also, could her voice handle it? The whole thing is a no for me. As for The Weekend, I think not. Mariah probably doesn't even know who he is. He isn't that big, and didn't Ariana Grande just do a song with him? I'd rather her collaborate with someone more fun and interesting, like Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke, Pharell, Bruno Mars or Sam Smith.

Jazz album (48,906) by Dove from USA
For the jazz album, I think she should cover some of her favorite jazz standards but most of the songs should be her already released songs with new arrangements. I've always wanted to hear a slowed down, sad, smoky, version of Heartbreaker. I envision Touch My Body and Shake It Off with big band/swing instrumentation. I've been listening to the Pearl Palms concert and it breathes new life into some songs that weren't at the top of my favorites before. When we were all making lists of songs we wanted her to perform on TECS, someone suggested she sing her "easier" songs, such as: Obsessed, TMB, SIO, UOMF, Thirsty, etc. We were saying that would be boring but after listening to the Pearl Palms concert, I take that back. She doesn't need vocal acrobatics to impress. When she sings anything live, it makes my soul feel like it's soaring. When she announces future concerts she should also announce the set list at the same time. That way the public can know what type of Mariah concert to expect. About a month before I go to a concert, I make a playlist of the set list and listen to it non-stop in anticipation.

Residency (48,905) by Darryle from USA
A residency is a terrible idea. It would be like admitting defeat. A residency is for someone who's star power is waning and can't sell like they used to. Look at Britney and Celine. No offense to either of them but they aren't selling like they used to in the US. Mariah can and is still selling. Also Mariah's voice would have to be in perfect shape for her residency. She doesn't dance so the main attraction is her voice. I really hope these are just rumors because a residency would only make things worse.

Vegas and Mariah Carey (48,904) by B from USA
I'm torn on the Las Vegas residency. It could work. Mariah hated the videos from that era so the chance of her including those are bleak but she did a lot of live performance so that's an option.

Music videos thoughts (48,903) by Dove from USA
My favorite Mariah video is Fantasy. I think the main reason I like it so much is because she's in motion. We catch her essence. I especially love the subtle movements of her face when she's on the roller coaster. There is something about some of her newer videos that make them hard for me to watch. (I'm glad they exist but I would like for her videos to take a new direction.) They look stretched out or like video game graphics. They remind me of the Clocks painting by Salvador Dali. For example: the part in the #Beautiful when she's on the bike, her face and its movements don't look natural. Or the part when she's dancing seems really slow motion. It would have been better if they would have been actually riding the bike instead of simulating it. I like how everything (backgrounds) looks except her. Her body, hair, and face look great, and I like the outfits, but it looks like someone stretched out the film. I know they don't use film anymore but I don't know how else to describe it. Same in HATEU. I also don't like how it looks when she lip syncs. The only time it looks good is when she was actually singing (concert DVDs) and it was dubbed. For Supernatural I would have liked some home video type scenes with the kids riding the cups at Disneyland, as a nod to Fantasy. Or for, Money ($ * /...) some video footage of their weddings. That would be fun to watch as a fan. I know they're not together anymore but for a moment in time they were happy and that should be celebrated.

Billy from Greece (48,902) by Bill from the UK
You're right. It was mentioned in the book by Chris Nickson that the Thanksgiving concert had several parts re-filmed, and he praised the patience and perservance of the audience. It was quite noticeable as certain shots from Hero and other songs, usually close ups, are of a totally different quality and as you rightly say her hair has clearly been fixed up again for the shoot. I agree though, it honestly didn't need any dubbing in my opinion as it was a great concert, but who knows what the sound quality was like in 1993, maybe they had to be dubbed due to audience noise and acoustics etc. It would explain why it was common practice throughout the industry.

Duet suggestion (48,901) by Gilbert from USA
Hi MC family, so I don't know if any of you read 50 Shades Of Grey but the reason for me mentioning this is because I came across the theme song for the movie and the artist is known as The Weekend and just with the texture of his voice I ended up digging the song. I even had it on replay for awhile and all I could think of was him and Mariah could make a really nice ballad together because as well all know Mariah has different textures of her voice on how she could sing and I just could picture a huge hit. He is just someone who I ran into just because of the book but if I'm not mistaken he has about 2 albums of his own. If anyone ends up wanting to hear the song the name of it is Earned It by The Weekend.

Mariah in Vegas would be a great move (48,900) by John john from UK
If the rumours are true then that would be a great move at this time I think. Having seen 10 major artist at Caesars Palace, Mariah would smash the talent they've had. It would be great for her and the kids, to be in one place most of the time. Plus we would get a Mariah shop. Now that's a massive plus in my eyes.

Dvd dubbing / video editing (48,899) by Billy from Greece
Not only there is audio dubbing (something almost everyone does, although I truly believe Mariah did not even need it and I tend to always prefer the unedited versions) but there is also video "dubbing". That is, some small parts of the concert were retaped, maybe to look better, I don't even know. You can see that in "Hero" at Proctor's. You can follow the simulated live parts by checking the changes in her hair. It sounds funny, but I'm not kidding.

25th Anniversary (48,898) by Angelo from Italy
I know, Edward from the USA, that Mimi's voice wasn't perfect for her last tour, but the best thing for her is doing short setlists, no playback songs, and reduce tickets prices. Anyway, for this anniversary, I'd like to see her doing a great documentary like Michael Jackson's Bad25 by Spike Lee, with many artists and co-workers interviews. I mean, Trey Lorenz, Ben Margulies, even Afanasieff and Mottola. And of course, on 12 June, one night only concert in New York to celebrate the album release, totally live and later released on Blu Ray:
1. Vanishing
2. Emotions
3. Dreamlover
4. My all
5. Love takes time
6. Someday
7. Always be my baby
8. Touch my body
9. We belong together
10. Vision of love

DVD's question / to Marcel from Canada (48,897) by Angelo from Italy
Thank you, your answer was so interesting. Well, I don't like MSG '95 for its cut and for Forever totally playback. But I like Proctor dvd. I mean, I hate intermissions, but the concert is in its entirety and order. I am sorry about Adventures 2006, but watching again I noticed more and more totally studio resung parts. Such a pity.

It happened at JD's birthday party in 2006 or 2007. There's a video of it on The Adventures Of Mimi DVD. There is also a video of up on YouTube.

A chance to redo and recreate a magical era (48,895) by Cgee54 from Usa
I agree with many opinions stated in this blog. I doubt that Mariah will celebrate the anniversary of her debut album. However, I think it would be wise of her to do because this album can help remind the world why she's Mariah Carey to begin with. Also this album can potentially spark interest in her again with the newer generations. This time around she can shape that era into something she wants to remember and be proud of, it would be like a redo. She can also record the song she was supposed to sing with Michael Bolton, I think it was called "We're not making love anymore" although Bolton recorded the song it would be nice to hear Mariah rendition.

Mariah's 25th Aniversery (48,894) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
Happy New Year lambily. I've been wanting Mariah to embrace this era for a while, it's what made her. She gave a nod to it on the MOAIA with the recreation photo shoot, I get a strong feeling Nick has something to do with her strongly embracing her musical catalog during the Columbia years. Just dreaming here include the album as it was released in 1990 and have a disc of a remastered version that included demos and original versions/alternate takes of the tracks even the one that didn't make it the entire session periods. Maybe use a photo from the cover shoot that we haven't found or has been used oh better the full shot used for the cover originally it's been spotted for promotional use and in small version on early mag articles and covers. Include the video anthology and re-work the booklet not just the lyrics but a behind the music vibe for each track from WA, TM and MC since they were all involved put the drama aside and do a solid just my thoughts

My ideas for MC25 (48,893) by Dove from USA
I like the idea of putting out an album of B-sides and rarities from the last 24 years with a few new tracks, instead of the usual compilation album. During one of her poster contests, one of the submissions was a bunch of cartoon Mariah's with her most iconic looks. It reminded me of the original album cover and poster from Selena's album "Siempre Selena" and I think it would be a great idea to recreate it but with Mariah's most iconic looks. Front and back, poster. Some could be when she won artist of the millennium, first Grammy, Fantasy video, iconic performances, etc. Whatever her favorite moments or looks are. In the CD booklet, it would be nice if the lyrics were included, iconic pictures from the past, and little stories of what she was thinking or how she was feeling during memorable moments. It can be called Just For The Nostalgia: B-Sides and Rarities.

Dubbing not resinging (48,892) by Marcel from Montréal, Canada
The 93 Proctor's special was dubbed in the sense that they took the best vocal of both dates and fixed the audio auality, ambient noises, etc but there was not resinging. Same happened in 95, just one date but she performed each song at least twice until she was satisfied then the dubbing happens to "clean" audio but not cheat in there. The rest are different. She even lips on stage now and then the performance is dubbed. Quite different.

Angelo / 25th Anniversary (48,890) by Edward from USA
Angelo, I don't think Mariah doesn't necessarily like that era, but you have to remember that "Mariah Carey" is full of vocal acrobatics. It was about showing her range and establishing her as a powehouse vocalist. Most songs on "Mariah Carey" are difficult to replicate live because of the complexities of the production. During the "Chanteuse" tour she had to remove "Vision of Love" from the setlist because her voice wasn't in shape for that, so the thought of tackling "Anytime You Need a Friend" wouldn't have been a good idea. She loves "Buttefly", yet she only sings "My All" from that album. It is a matter of choosing a blend of songs that could please the fans, but that wouldn't render her voice shut for the next show. There are songs that she won't sing again unless she rearranges them. I would love to hear her sing "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Love Takes Time" and "Can't Let Go" again.
