Angelo / Shelly (48,889) by Bill from the UK
I agree with you Angelo about the anniversary, it's a big stretch of the imagination for Mariah to embrace that era, especially as she is now very cagey about her age and doesnt like dwelling on how long she's been around. But, there is of course "the art of letting go" and just celebrating a great and deserved achievement. Plus it would make us all so, so happy. Hi Shelly, thank you for the message and Happy New Year to you. Lots of love.

25th Anniversary (48,888) by Angelo from Italy
Well, I don't think she'll celebreate, she hates that era and maybe that album too (VOL apart). And she doesn't care about what her fans want, we saw last tour when people voted "Anytime you need a friend" and she didn't. Many years, many concerts, everytime the one and only song from the debut album was VOL, since Daydream tour. It's a shame. So forget the anniversary.

DVD's question / to Bill from the UK (48,887) by Angelo from Italy
Thank you for your answer. Well, so disappointed, I mean, just MTV Unplugged is real, very sad. But, taking a look again at Proctor's '93, I saw more live and no dubbing than MSG '95 and Adventures 2006.

"Don't Explain" (October 4, 2014) (48,886) by Billy from Greece

A favorite song of mine, even before the divine Miss M performed it, it has now become even more intense thanks to her interpretation. Although she performed it in later shows when she was in better voice, her rendition from the infamous first "Chanteuse" show remains my favorite. There is a painfully slow lugubrious musical crawling going on in this delivery, with her voice cracking here and there, making it for the listener an almost voyeristic experience. As a writer has put it, "vocal crisis is a form of communication", "when the voice breaks down, the diva shows us how beggared and partial the terms of her triumph have been". Even then, or sometimes especially in these moment, the divine Mariah achieves transcendence.

2015, the year of the butterfly (48,885) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Hey lambily, like many of you have already expressed, I too am super-excited about what Mariah has planned for her silver anniversary this year. The promise of a special edition release of "Mariah Carey" with all the bells and whistles is enough to make a lamb giddy. More than any new material I really really want Mariah to get proper celebratory moments for achieving longevity and maintaining her legendary status in a business as fickle as the music industry has become. This is a rare milestone and I for one feel nothing but pride and happiness that Mariah is still making high quality music and singing in a league of her own. No disrespect to all the other great vocalists from now and then, here and gone like the wonderful Whitney Houston and fantastic Celine. But I deem this the year of the butterfly because I know Mariah is gonna bless us with musical gems this year. I still hold a candle for the redemption of MIAMTEC. Happy New Year lambis, I just know we have much good to look forward to.

Will she celebrate her 25th? (48,884) by Darryle from USA
I am a bit worried that Mariah won't celebrate her anniversary because she doesn't like that era. I think it's the era she dislikes the most. She always talks about how the demos are better. She hates the fact that she did the running man in Someday. Also she hasn't performed Someday since about 1993. Despite Mariah not liking that era I still think she'll celebrate it. She knows how much it would mean to the fans.

Don't quote me on this or anything, but I'm pretty sure Madonna said that in the early 90's. If memory serves I think she mentioned in an interview of some kind that her dad liked Mariah as a singer and she was pretty rebellious with her father lol. A lot of time has passed since then. We all have ego's, Madonna and Mariah are no exception. Mariah can dish out shade when she wants to. I have noticed over the years of evolving, Madonna has mellowed considerably in terms of shading people. I personally just chalked that comment to be ego based.

I love that video. I wouldn't want all of her videos to look like that but I'm glad it exists. In the year 2000, I remember listening to Merry Christmas Baby by Christina Aguilera where she sings Auld Land Syne in the intro. I remember thinking I wanted Mariah to sing that song and make a video singing and dancing in front of fireworks. I'm not even kidding. That's not how I thought the video would turn out but I really love it anyway. I love that she's sharing her pregnancy with us.

You're my favorite lamb too. I actually missed not reading your posts when you were gone for a while. I was like, "I call your name, baby, subconsciously." Happy New Year to you, Mariah, and all the lambs including my other favorites: Bill, May and Stacey.

I only saw this once before and thought it was really bad. But now I think it's cute with her dancing and all. She really is quite festive. Happy New year.

Darryle (48,877) by Bill from the UK
Hi Darryle, I love your idea to commemorate the debut album. A few years back a "Legacy Edition" of the debut album appeared on release schedules, but never saw the light of day. We never knew the content, but the other Legacy Editions Sony released for other artists included the original album remastered with a second disc of new material - either unreleased tracks, live songs, demos, remixes etc. As for Mariah buying into the project, I'd love her to but she does have some issues with that period. She hates the videos (which I'm convinced is why The First Vision never got a DVDS release outside of Japan), and she said the demos were better than the finished product because everything was over produced. It'd be great if she herself remastered the album and stripped the songs down to how she originally wanted them to sound. How cool would that be?

The "studio" artist (48,876) by nikki from usa
An "artist" by definition is different and unique with their self expression. People like Madonna are performers. Mariah is a vocalist maverick. I think when MC returns to the spotlight she should just do promo with an abundance of material. She should announce she has an album coming out, but she's going to let the people choose the songs. Then, do shows galore debuting 1-3 different songs each time and have a poll for decision making. This would create her own buzz, get people to watch the shows, and wouldn't require a record label. The buzz will sell itself. She should do some endorsement that will increase her exposure like she did in '01 by combining Pepsi with iTunes. By "exposure", I mean outlets to buy her music, not simply some hair commercial people may or may not recognize her from. All of her exposure and endorsements should be functional. They should both pay her and increase her product visibility/accessibility.

Things are never what they seem (48,875) by nikki from usa
People have the assumption that tweens and twenty somethings are the people who are buying music and it's not true. Those are the people going to concerts, not buying music. That title actually goes to people in their 40's. Critics were shocked when Adele sold like hotcakes in a "dead" market when she came out selling numbers like we haven't seen since the 90's. She had a big voice singing mature songs with the old school vibe. You hear something similiar with Megan and All About That Bass. This is a part of the reason WBT, SIO, and DFAU took off. Meanwhile, SS and GYN only did well at clubs. This is why #Beautiful did so well. You'll notice the people defending Mariah from The View to Debbie Gibson are a part of this age group. If Mariah brings her big voice, her old school, and songwriting to the front line it will take off in a big way.

Finally (48,874) by Abraham from USA
Others are putting two and two together and realizing what Mariah will more and likely will do. And what she is capable of. Her best songs she recorded will probably be on the next album. I want to wish Mariah and my two favorite lambs B and Shelly a Happy New Year. As well as all the other "true" fans. Let's hope 2015 will be Mariah's year.

Once again (48,873) by Marcel from Montréal, Canada
The race has started and they are now trying to find Mariah's next "beau" but why do they insist in tying her to the ghetto always? I mean, yes, she married that clown NC but I guess she's not going again for the same if ever going for anyone. By the way I was watching this bad movie on the Paramount Channel (The Italian Job) and I couldn't help to imagine Mariah dating either Mark Wahlberg or/and Jason Stathan lol. Well you never know and oops. I guess I am already trying to find her a man already. Well, at least these two are handsome and more age appropriate to her. Anyway, bonne année.

Madonna (48,872) by Darryle from USA
Not to bring her up again but why does Madonna have a problem with Mariah. I know Madonna said something like she'd rather kill herself than be Mariah. Then Mariah said I haven't listen to Madonna since she was popular in like 7th or 8th grade. As far as I know Mariah didn't say anything rude to Madonna. I'm a fan of both Mariah and Madonna and I don't see why both of them can't get along.

Sigh (48,871) by Alexis Morell Carrington Colby Dexter Rowan from USA
I'm reminded of when Mariah held back while singing "Chain of Fools" with Aretha at Diva's Live '98. She could've rather easily "out-sang" Aretha but she held back, not because she was intimidated but because she simply chose to.

2015 is full of great surprises (48,870) by Edward from USA
Mariah has enough songs recorded to give us a nice surprise for her 25th anniversary without overworking herself. According to "The Breakfast Club" interview, she has a great song called "Kick Rocks", and like that one I'm pretty sure she has many others. She was supposed to have sung a new song here and there during "The Elusive Chanteuse" tour, but she didn't, unless she actually recorded "Lullaby of Birdland" and "Don't Explain", then I would die. I don't think we'll go empty-handed on 2015. If she collaborates with a successful mainstream artist for the first single, she could get that 19th #1 she so deserves. I'm not stressing about #1's anymore, but I do really want Mariah to be on the charts again, she's earned it. I was flabbergasted when "Make It Look Good", hailed as one of the best records of 2014, didn't even get a Grammy nomination.

MC just needs the right single and image (48,869) by jaker20 from US
It's not as simple as giving her A-game. It's something we can't easily figure out. Cher was 52 when she had the greatest year/album/single of her career and I think MC is a much more well-rounded talent than Cher. Madonna was 54 when she scored another top 10 two years ago. MC was hardly in her A-game during TEOM yet come on, let's face it, she lipped her way through that era. Yet that's one of her banner years. Why? Because the songs just simply rock. Right time, right place. One of the most perfect blends of R&B/Pop/HipHop/Soul ever. When I first heard WTB I knew it was gonna be massive. It's always about the song. Cher didn't know Believe was going to be massive, and when it did she run with it. There's some formula in pop music (and art in general) that cannot be easily be manufactured, especailly for someone who's been in the game for so long. I've been hard on MC too these last few year, but I honestly think she's getting more inspired now than the last few years. I honestly think she got stiffed by mommy-hood and Nick. She was simply not into it anymore and more about the family. That's all good for her family, but all bad for her career and fans waiting for her to get inspired again. But watching these concerts I think she's finally getting her groove back in ways I've not seen since TEOM. She just need that one spark, that special song to get it started. I still think she's gonna surprise us one more and then she'll run with it.

Concerts (48,868) by Darryle from USA
I don't know if anybody knows this but you can buy Mariah's concerts on YouTube. I just discovered it today. There is a youtube channel called The Orchard Movies where you can buy MTV Unplugged, Around The World, and Mariah Carey at MSG. I thought that was cool since they don't sell her DVDs in stores a lot of the times you have to buy them through Amazon or Ebay and then wait for them to arrive but now you can get them instantly.

What Mariah should do to celebrate 25 years (48,867) by Darryle from USA
We don't know what Mariah has planned for 2015 yet but one thing that's certain is that it'll be her 25th anniversary in the industry. I hope that she goes all out. I think she should remix the singles from the first album with all new vocals. Or at least remix Someday since it's the fastest song. She should have the album remastered and re-released on CD and vinyl. On the re-release she should include the demo tape she gave to Tommy and all the demos written in the 1990. She should also make a DVD copy of "The First Vision". Of course she should promote all of this like a regular album with sit down interviews and performances of her first singles on tv. I think regular promo would remind everyone that she's been here for 25 years, she's a legend and no one can replace her.
