Think again (45,995) by B from USA
I love the new album. I know a lot of people that were let down by Memoirs. The lyrics read like a little girl's diary. Obsessed and Laungishing are the best songs on the album. I also love Candy Bling. A lot fans myself included were worried this album was going to be Memoirs to the second power.

May, b3nP123, TR, RockyRoc (45,994) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
May, thanks. I really feel that way about the album. To me, it's one of Mariah's more lush, airy, atmospheric albums - as slinky as Butterfly, as bright as Rainbow, and as intimate as Charmbracelet. b3nP123, I don't think it's a fair comparison either. MOAIA's cohesion is a product of it's sequencing and overall production style, while MIAMTEC's cohesiveness relies more on other aspects such as it's recurring theme of nostalgia and clever transitional devices to patch up its relatively scattershot production and genre-hopping. TR, I love it too and think that it's probably one of the top 2 most difficult songs to sing in that album (the other being IAW). It's hard enough to sing that chorus at that tempo, let alone in a controlled, whispery manner. My favorite part, though, has to be that clever boxing metaphor - genius. It's one of her smartest compositions lyrically. RockyRoc, I love that part as well, but as much as I know she can do that for real, it also can sound like a bad cut-and-paste job in terms of vocal production. In fact, I recall reading 2 reviews at the time noting it as a "weird transition/editing".

Ken / Ariana (45,993) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Most of the dislike for Ariana stems from the false perception that she's a Mimi usurper. Point: her voice is lithe but doesn't have the heft and conviction of Mariah's, so she can't really replace someone who she isn't in the same league with vocally. Still, she deserves to be cut some slack. Yes, she presently isn't even on a fraction of Mariah's artistry, but she's open to try new things (Bang Bang sounds good) it would be a lie not to acknowledge that the girl can sing better than any of her contemporaries. To be fair, no artist in the music industry nowadays or for the past 4 decades or so has been completely original. Everyone's work is somehow derivative of others to some extent, save for a few nuances here and there. Most importantly, she is the most recent obvious proof of Mariah's influence in today's music, including all the Christinas, Beyoncés, and pretty much every singing competition alum since the '90s. So she does a lot of things "the Mariah way" to a rip-off-ish level. So she posted an okay cover of Emotions. I don't think that warrants the shade she receives. After all, this is the same girl who refused to record AIWFCIY for her Christmas EP because she deemed it "untouchable". Aren't you glad she chose to emulate Mariah instead of other artists out there of lesser caliber? Besides, I believe it's just a phase in her career. She cannot play the mini-Mimi card forever, people would eventually get tired of it and she'd have to step out of Mariah's shadow.

this_is_qhm = D (45,992) by May from Denmark
Quote: "It trades the diva gloss and sheen for introspection, some of her most understated and intimate work since Charmbracelet, as well as some of her most vivid storytelling since Butterfly." Exactly that. I couldn't have said it better.

Agree in some b3nP123 (45,991) by May from Denmark
I agree that both albums shouldn't be compared. When I gave my opinions regard MOAIA I wasn't even having the new album in mind. This last album vocally, if compared, is more powerful and soulful and some of the songs are much better arranged, also there is a wider variety of styles. What I like about Memoirs is that Mariah said that the idea for that album was first and foremost made for the fans and a gift to her fans, and that the stories (songs) in the album were experiences of hers. If you sit and listen to the lyrics they all have a narrative and that's what I like about it, Mariah was sharing part of her life in songs, these were more real, less "cryptic" and perhaps that's why they also sound more relaxed. MOAIA was all about her and her stories except for "I want to know what love is" which was requested personally by Nick Cannon because he said she needed to do a new big cover. It didn't turn out big like previous covers but it was still quite successful.

b3nP123 (45,990) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Hey, well the reason Mariah is solo on the two tracks in the album and has featured artists in the videos is because the videos were part of the promotional campaign for the remix album Angels Advocate and not for Memoirs. Angels Advocate was a remix album for Memoirs with almost all except 2 or 3 tracks getting the remix treatment with a featured artist like Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo, R Kelly and so on. Infact the remixes included in Chanteuse are discarded ones from Angels Advocate. The remix album was however abandoned and Mariah chose to instead release MCIIY. She was supposed to release 2 different remix albums in 2010, one being "Angels Advocate" (with guests) and another called "MC vs JS" which had tracks of Memoirs remixed by Jump Smokers. Hope that helps.

MOAIA (45,988) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I've seen this topic countless times on various websites and have compiled several reasons why MOAIA is frequently unjustly maligned: 1) its merely okay performance on the charts; 2) it was led by a polarizing lead single followed by a weak second single; 3) it's her second consecutive album showcasing relatively more restrained vocals, but with a more leathery tone than it was in E=MC2; 4) before her latest release, it's been her least commercial and least catchy album since Charmbracelet, both of which missing a standalone hit; 5) though The-Dream really did try to vary their production styles on the songs, it still somehow sounded understandably same-y, which did work well for cohesion, but not so much in terms of distinguishing the songs from each other; 6) it was deemed too R&B and too toned down; 7) like MIAMTEC, it's predominated by down to mid-tempo songs, with just a few slightly uptempo numbers to break the blend; 8) it felt rushed, with filler more obvious than ever. In summary, at the time, people just weren't ready for a more confessional, less commercial, mellowed-out Mariah, something that seems to be the case until today. I personally like it. It trades the diva gloss and sheen for introspection, some of her most understated and intimate work since Charmbracelet, as well as some of her most vivid storytelling since Butterfly. Most associate Mimi with bombast and stone cold smashes, so anything that deviates from that is considered uncharacteristic and is often unfairly dismissed. To her fans, it's one of her most divisive collections. To me, it's still most definitely a keeper.

Memoirs vs MIAMTEC (45,985) by b3nP123 from United States
Memoirs was less musically diverse but I don't think it's fair to compare the two albums. Memoirs was very deep. MIAMTEC explored and perfectly executed multiple styles of music. I think it was great for Mariah to remix It's A Wrap with Mary J. Blige and Betcha Von' Know with R. Kelly for MIAMTEC because they were already great songs but added in more substance. She was also at two different places in her life. The only weird thing about Memoirs is that Mariah is solo in Up Out My Face and Angels Cry but in the videos she was collaborating with Nicki Minaj and Ne-Yo respectively. Make It Look Good is getting to be a new favorite for me haha. I love all the songs on MIAMTEC except for Meteorite honestly. Idk I just don't really like it that much but that's just one song. Both are great but too different to be pitted against one another.

Gerald / Shezz (45,984) by Abraham from USA
Gerald I agree. I too dislike "MOAIA". And feel the same way about the production, and music. But I like the new album a lot more. Shezz thank you. You're right, just wondered if Mariah still drank her honey tea, or whatever tea she drinks for her voice. I thought others, especially the webmaster would know what I meant. I didn't know I had to be so specific. But whatever, no one bothers me. I love this messageboard.

Mike RC and Webmaster (45,983) by Tarraga from New York City
Dear Webmaster, thanks so much for the info about the vinyls, it really helped. Mike RC, thanks to you too for the info. I just checked Amazon and found them. Still waiting for Gilles to contact me and let me know about the French website to have MCIIY and MIAMCTEC in vinyls. Mike, I'm originally from Spain too but I have been living in NYC since 2006. Feel free to contact me via email and maybe we can meet next time I go to Spain (on Christmas). I don't know any lamb there or here so it would be cool to stay in touch. Thanks.

Ariana Grande (45,980) by Ken from USA
I know there are a lot of lambs who dislike her and think she should find her own style. However, I do find it refreshing that someone who actually has talent is achieving success. It should be very interesting to see if she achieves longevity. Good luck to her, she's the most deserving out there.

Rapture (45,979) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I really wish Mariah would cover anything, really, any song from Anita Baker's Rapture album. It's a classic and is one of my favorite albums from the 80s (she's already done a song from George Michael's Faith, so I hope she chooses this next). If you still haven't heard it, I strongly recommend you to, it's guaranteed satisfaction. Out of the 8 songs, though, I think Mimi would sound the most magical with You Bring Me Joy, Been So Long, and of course the monster hit Sweet Love and most especially Caught Up In The Rapture. JoJo did a great job of putting a modern spin into that song on her latest EP. I could just imagine what Mariah would do with the cascading intro of the song. Chills. It would suit her perfectly. Plus, Anita would pretty much automatically love it as we all know she's a massive Mariah supporter and in fact was one of several celebs that tweeted about how amazing MIAMTEC was during its release.

I seem to notice (45,978) by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC
I come to notice some fans are giving love to the Memoirs album. I must admit that there are some standout tracks but all in all in my opinion the production becomes very much stale and repetitive. It becomes more of a Dream and Tricky album and Mariah Carey's voice is thrown in there as the talent. This new album triumphs it for me in many ways as this feels like an MC album.

Real husbands of Hollywood (45,975) by Abraham from USA
I saw a commercial last night on tv of the show and I saw a clip of Mariah. She was wearing pink and said "Cut". It was funny. She looked beautiful. I like that hair style. I know about the show but I've never watched it. But just like someone posted, it would be great to see more of Mariah on tv. Maybe some kind of special or if she did another "Unplugged". I have been wanting her to do another "Unplugged", so she can show all the haters that she still can sing live, which I know she can. I hope she can resolve whatever problem she is having with her voice. I would suggest vocal rest. No singing, or talking for 2 or 3 weeks. Then some vocal exercises. I honestly think that Mariah hasn't lost her voice. She's lost the confidence. I was wondering if she drinks her tea?

MIAM, sales / Money $@#! (45,973) by Stacey from USA
Sorry, but fans can only do so much in regards to sales. I bought my copy. People have a choice. To say every fan who didn't buy the album are cheap isn't fair. Trust me, I'm annoyed too. It's a great album and should be heard. But, there are other factors at play why the album didn't sell. You just can't blame the fans. They are only one part of the triangle, the others being IDJ and Ms. Mariah C. herself. I finally gave Money a listen. Fabulous track (pun intended). Haha.

Tarraga, Gilles - vinyls (45,972) by Mike RC from Spain
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that E=MC2 and Memoirs vinyls do exist. In fact I have them and got them from Amazon, as well as Touch My Body, Bye Bye, Obsessed, etc. I think it's just since MCIIY that they don't release Mariah vinyls.

Mariah in real husbands of Hollywood? (45,971) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I just read somewhere she will be appearing on the show. Finally. They mentioned her a lot of times on the show. I am excited to see how it goes down. Robin Thicke's wife came, and the wives of all the other cast members come, except for Nick's. Excited.

Gilles, Malta (45,970) by Tarraga from New York City
Hello my fellow European friend. I happened to be a vinyl collector too. I have a huge library room at home here in NYC with a grand Steinway piano, a victrola from the beginning of the 1900's, a gramophone from the 1940's and lots of other instruments. I'm an opera singer so that room is my altar. Lol. One of the walls is just dedicated to vinyls and, of course, one entire row is "dedicated" to Mariah Carey. I, like you, have almost every vinyl from Mariah, singles included but I couldn't find any from E=MC2 to now. So, as soon as I read your message I decided to contact you. I really would like to know the name and contact info of that French company. I can't wait to get the vinyls for E=MC2, Memoirs, MCIIY and MIAMTEC, plus all the singles from all of them (which I own too). Lol. I agree with you that the sound is incredibly much better than the mp3. Can you please send me an email to dlptarraga@yahoo.com? I would really appreciate it. And it would be cool to have a lamb friend from Malta. Hehehe. Thanks.

That's the truth Shelly (45,969) by THE TRUTH from USA
Finally I have something nice to say about Shelly. Great idea about Netflix, although "somebody" won't take the initiative and just "put them up" so why don't you take the lead and start a campaign. Get all her fans to e-mail Netflix requesting Mariah Carey specials. I'd suggest you put a list together and distribute it to fans so that there's some cohesion, you can't expect Netflix to think for themselves. My guess is it can happen and you could be responsible. I believe it would be a terrific boost for Mariah's career. Particularly unplugged would win over a ton of young fans who may never have heard of her.

The art of listening to a Mariah Carey collection (45,968) by Justin from USA - Los Angeles
Reading this thread makes me realize there are many different ways of listening to a Mariah Carey collection. Whether it be records or cassettes. There are so many different devices in which you can listen to her music. Here are the ways that I know of. CD player: has some imperfections but sounds classic. iPod (newer): sounds completely clear and you can hear every detail. iPod (older): sounds a little dated with the bass being a bit over the top and muffled. Records and vinyls: I have never used one of these and I would definetely in the near future be interested in investing in a record player. Cassettes: very 90's nostalgic. Radio: timeless, where the memories are spawned. There are many other factors that contribute to music quality and I would like to venture out and try as many as possible to touch on certain genres that Mariah has used. The devices I personally use are: the newest iPod nano 16gb (completely perfect, houses my entire Mariah collection) equipped with Apple's EarPods TM. A 2008-esque clunky digital alarm clock equipped with radio, a CD player, and an auxiliary slot. iPhone 4 with Apple's EarPods TM. I only have the essentials on this phone (MIAM). And that's about it. I am curious as to what other formats, devices, and equipment you guys listen to when listening to a Mariah Carey collection. Thanks.

Mariah's album and LP vinyl (45,967) by Gilles from Malta
I sent an email to Island Def Jam in order to know if they are going to sell Merry Christmas II You to and Me I Am Mariah The Elusive Chanteuse in vinyl. They told me that they won't make it for that two albums. I did explain to them that I have them all in vinyl until Memoirs and the quality of the sound is so better and that the support is stronger than a CD and more beautiful than a mp3. Plus I told them that I just bought the new Pharell and Coldplay. They did answer to me that they won't make it. So I'm proud to say that I found a company in France that will make it for me and they will make even the covers and they will add The Art Of Letting Go on it, hermorosa. Of course I did purchase all of them. I think they make that type of support only when there is at least one number one in the the top ten. Whatever I will got them in few day. I would like to thank that French company for making my two CD's, a support that will last in the time with a better quality. I was so happy to listen at the beginning of The Art Of Letting Go and it was beautiful with the crappy sound of the vinyl. Anyway I am happy it is a question of time.
