Dancing around the questions (48,612) by Marissa from USA
I'm not surprised that you took all of that energy to not (caps) answer the question. You are always the "positive" lamb who acts like anyone who gives constructive criticism is a peasant that has no right to speak. Your elitist attitude isn't at all shocking. "Assumption" 1. MC isn't 100% at fault nor did I imply that, but my point was that she only has hope to turn anything around if she acknowledges something that she or her team can do differently.
2. I never said that she lost all (caps) of her respect, but if you think MC has the same respect now from the gp that she had during TEOM or even E=MC2 then, "pull down them Tom Fords and act like you see".
3. Every singer has their lows in the media, but the general consensus on these women at that age wasn't that they were has-beens, which is what the media is making MC out to be now.
4. I didn't say whether everything we hear about MC is true or false. I asked why the respect for her isn't where is should be. You got really creative with this one.
5. This "assumption" is your own paranoia. I was asking if MC's strategies are solid, why isn't she being treated like the legend that she is. I never said or implied that she couldn't handle herself or needed to be micromanaged. Nice try though.
This list of non-existent assumptions was cute, but a failed attempt to distract from the fact that you can never give a logical explanation or educated guess about why MC goes through the mess that she goes through in the media.

Not a mom and pop (48,611) by Dove from USA
It's not that Mariah can't be trusted to handle her own affairs and needs to be micromanaged down to the color of her panties. I just think she does need help. Even Oprah hires the best people to help her. If MC was an indie artist, just making music for the joy of it, then sales and likability by the general public wouldn't matter.

Fame / WW (48,610) by Dove from USA
The reason I think Mariah is not into being famous is because people thirsty for fame want the world to know everything about them and Mariah seems like she values her privacy. The reason I brought up WW is because a lot of young people watch her and all they know about Mariah is what WW says. WW takes her hot topics from the tabloids but she adds her own commentary and opinions about it; these opinions are what viewers latch on to, and make their own, subconsciously. In a way, it's good that she talks about MC, because it keeps her name in the news, but it's also negative because the things WW is saying could stick unless MC comes out at some point and dispels the stories. In that clip I posted, WW is not hailing MC praises but she is considerably nicer than in other clips, and I just wondered why.

The Grammy Awards are a joke.

Mariah (48,608) by B from USA
Mariah's career is not in that bad of shape. She just had a hit single with #Beautiful and her album sold 100,000 copies with no promotion during a year that only one album went platinum. I could understand some of these complaints if this era was as bad as Glitter or Charmbracelet but it isn't. Mariah can easily rebound from this.

Hate the game not the player (48,607) by Otti from Belgium
It's nice to read different views from fans. I was thinking, this is not the first time that Mariah is going to a turbulence of critics. I remember so well the "Glitter" era. Everything she did was wrong, the movie is a flop, the album is a flop, radiostatioins were not playing her music, she was called insane, and blabla. But still she was strong enough to manage and give performances around the world. But this time is different, it feels so rare that even fans are complaying about everything. What Randy said. I could not say it better. Beyonce knows how to play the game, that to me it seemed all fake. She is always positive to other female artist, every other female artist is in her eyes beautiful and gorgeous, she is always kind. On the other hand, I feel for Mariah, since she saw the day of light as a singer she is compared to other singers, Whitney, Toni, Christina, Leoan, Ariana. Mariah is in my eyes really brave. Does she has a label or manager at this moment?

Do you still beat your wife and other designed-to-fail questions (48,606) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Weeks ago a poster popped up out of the clear blue to ask me: "Are you always that angry?" That was it, no actual reference to anything I had written or anyone else's posts. So it was obviously just their own weak attempt at projecting an unfavourable image onto me, painting me as "always angry" just by the framing of that in this open forum. It's a trick lesser journalists will use to incriminate their subject and conjure up sensationalism where there otherwise isn't. So when I saw this exchange by Marissa: "I'm with Randy. If everything is fine with MC's career and image and nothing needs to be changed, why is her name constantly being dragged through the mud and why doesn't she get the same respect that Aretha, Patti, and Barbra were getting at her age?", I had a bit of déjà vu. How do you answer a question with that much built in assumption without hanging yourself? The assumptions being:
1. Mariah is 100% at fault for any and all slander she surfers from the general public.
2. Mariah has lost all the hard earned respect she has earned for over 25 years in the business.
3. Other divas never suffer at the hands of the public and are always respected in the entertainment industry no matter age.
4. Every single piece of information we hear about Mariah is 100% true, especially if someone who doesn't know her or is "Incognito" claims it.
5. Mariah can't be trusted to handle her own affairs and needs to be micromanaged down to the color of her panties.

Questions for positive lambs (48,605) by Jon from Netherlands
The problem when it comes to MC is that for the general public perception is reality. They can't see through the surface and most of the time can't even get a joke (and Mariah is always joking, which can come across as full of herself for those that don't get it).

You ask about vocal health? Okay (48,604) by Spir Ja from USA
Re built my vocal and my Facebook post linked it to the correct book, I believe, as well as what I did with "isolating" registers at the piano. She [...] her middle voice [...] Any fan that is a vocalist knows she talked pretty extensively about 10 years ago about the [...] of the middle voice and Whitney had it in abundance back in the "day". MC was in awe of that aspect of Whit's vocal but, going forward, she can rebuild her vocal and I hope she figures out how. She can do it on her own or with someone she can trust, but she can do it. The middle voice is kinda like a "electronic crossover unit" on a speaker, it "blends" the lows and highs, it's called the passagio and in formal vocal training usually takes about 7-8 years. MC's/Whits' producer is my mentor of 12 years and I have a lot of the same tones as them, but no success. For whatever that's worth. I've preserved my vocal health. I hope MC does the work and saves her vocal, she can do it.

New to the MCA board (48,602) by Warrior Butterfly from USA
Hello MCA-ers. I have finally decided to join but have followed MCA since the late 1990s' I've known of Mariah since the MTV Unplugged era and became a lamb with butterfly in 1997. I just wanted to share the link to a acoustic version of "AIWFCIY". I really like the stripped down take very simple. The scatting at the end wow I think my favorite style of Mariah, hope to talk to you soon.

Can I get some love for this remix? This song also gets me into the Christmas spirit with a little religious reason for why I celebrate Christmas.

Edward / Deedre (48,599) by Stacey from USA
I know. I'm glad the webmaster got rid of the thumbs down icon. I couldn't believe the number of thumbs down I got the last time I shared a MC/kid story. Geesh. You make a good point about AIWFCIY being MC's signature song. It comes around every year with new folks listening to this song, including my kids. Makes me feel old the song turned 20 this year. I was 17 when it came out. Do the math, lol. Deedre, I figured it was about time to get into the Christmas spirit. Her Christmas covers were some of my favs when I collected promo CDs. I'm glad you and I can discuss and leave as friends. Merry Christmas to all.

Questions for positive lambs (48,598) by Marissa from USA
I'm with Randy. If everything is fine with MC's career and image and nothing needs to be changed, why is her name constantly being dragged through the mud and why doesn't she get the same respect that Aretha, Patti, and Barbra were getting at her age? Mariah is a legend, but do you feel like the world is treating her as such? Is MC just having bad luck? Positive lambs please respond. I seriously want to hear your theories.

Re: Jaker20 (48,597) by nikki from usa
AI had very little to do with Mariah. Throughout the show Nicki forever interrupted Mariah when it was her turn to asses the contestant. Then continuously asked Mariah to explain her advice she had just given to the contestant to Nicki and why. Mariah forever brought up her resume which Nicki found "disrespectful". AI was 6 months of that. Mariah was there to judge contestants, not explain herself to Nicki Minaj. Mariah pissed off producers because she refused to be mean to the contestants and cheered them on. I've met Mariah and found her to be heartfelt and warm. I know of no other person, Mother Teresa or regular Joe, who did anything with broken bones for the sake of a fundraiser. People who believe themselves to be superior are not going to put themselves on the line for someone else. If you want to find out who someone is, look at their actions and candid moments. Mariah putting pizza dough down Josephine's pants is Mariah. Eternally 12. Having a 15 foot Christmas tree in her room is Mariah. Festive. I love that she puts butterscotch schnapps in her cocoa, jumps in a hot tub in 0 degree weather, then rolls around in the snow, and jumps back in the hot tub. There's so much to her that no one knows about. When was the last time you saw her crack a joke or play a game with her kids? No one ever really sees Mariah. A show bent on ratings that wants girls to fight doesn't show how people really are, just what they want you to see.

Signature song(s) (48,594) by Jono from USA
Sorry for the multiple posts on this topic, but I think her most recognizable song would have to be AIWFCIY. Mostly because it has the benefit of being played every holiday season. So besides that, I actually think Always Be My Baby is one of her signatures. A lot of my friends who aren't fans (not haters, just not as invested as I am lol) know that song and love it to death. We Belong Together is also another one; the reason why it might not be seen as a "classic" is because it wasn't attached to a famous film, unlike Whitney's IWALY and Celine's MHWGO. The Bodyguard and Titanic were huge box office hits, which is why WBT might not be as ingrained in people's heads. But if you play any of the hits that us lambs adore, I would say most are recognizable, people just don't realize it's Mariah. Heck, some people still think that AIWFCIY is a cover or don't know that she wrote it. A lot of people don't realize her genius but I think as time goes on, more and more people respect her for what she has done. To finish my tangent, I remember during 2005 when TEOM was a hit, but she was still getting flack. Despite the recent Rockefeller performance, I do think the general public respects Mariah way more now than they did 10 years ago. And I think the power of the internet has certainly helped as well. Just my two cents. But yes, if I had to have a top 3 list for a non fan, it'd be:
1) All I Want For Christmas Is You
2) Always Be My Baby
3) We Belong Together

Shelly, WW and DJ (48,593) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
Listen, WW is especially foul because she always misrepresents one of her producers as an in-house lamb so she can get away with telling blatant lies. She's basically using us dedicated fans to help smear Mariah's good name and lend her ridiculous, oft even slanderous tabloid storytelling, the credence it so obviously lacks. I rebuke it as thoroughly as I'm sure Mariah does. Like you, my heart aches for MiMi to the point where I dread the day Derek Jeter decides to really settle down with a girl not named Mariah. If it's meant to be we'll know soon enough because if he cares for her even half as much as I suspect Mariah still cares for him, he will reach out to her somehow. Maybe not in the whirl of things but eventually. No matter what, Mariah will love again. That's who she is.

Randy / you're not alone (48,592) by Edward from USA
Randy, It is frustrating for me too. Some fans might say Mariah should stay the way she is, but that doesn't seem to be working that well for her for a while now. I don't want Mariah to be a different person; I would just like Mariah to be more relatable and humble. She was this multiracial artist with the big voice that everybody loved and could relate to because her story was real, some of her songs were about social issues; she was fun, vulnerable, but sweet and unpretentious. As time went by, her boobs got bigger, her ego went to the roof, the diva came to the front, and everything was more about Mariah the person and not her music. For those who say Mariah doesn't need to change anything, remember that Mariah was successful again with The Emancipation Of Mimi not only due to the music, but to a huge campaign to make people like her again. She definitely was being advised about changing her ways. As fans we want Mariah to be happy, but we want at least a piece of that Mariah we all fell in love with. Beyoncé has played her cards very well. She's laughing all the way to the bank, collecting Grammys and other accolades because she knows how to play the game. Once you believe your own hype, it's a wrap.

Shelly (48,591) by Jon from Netherlands
Mariah tired of fame? I actually hope so. She's had so much sucess she doesn't need it anymore. You have silly little teenagers saying Mariah copied Taylor Swift when it comes to the song Shake It Off. Mariah at this point is for those who care about music not for the teenager market (the one she would have to reach in order to achieve fame). So focus on making music for the fans. If MC ever decides to go on a jazz route she would have great fans like Diana Krall has that actually appreciate music. I feel like Mariah could have another 25 years of a completely different career, in a way much more successful cause it could be even more about the music. She doesn't owe the fans anything and doesn't owe me anything so this is wihsful thinking but I would love to see her put her catalogue behind and start fresh. Sinead O'Connor doesn't sing NCTY anymore. I say MC could do the same. She has gazillions songs in store for us and we could enjoy a new repertoire and leave the old one in the albums and youtube clips. To start new she would have to accept letting go of fame and her trademark songs. Perhaps it would come back, perhaps not. One thing is for sure: her musical talent will not go away and we would still love her.

Bill, MimiLamb, John John, Gilles, Nikki, RJJ12, Otti, Mara, B, Luke, Manny, Jared and lamb (48,590) by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
I appreciate reading your positive posts. There will always be some ducks on here who act like everything is horrible when the rest of us know for a fact that they aren't. I'll take optimism over doubt any day. Because guess who else lives by that mantra? Mariah Carey. Shocking, I know. But some will always wear their beer goggles and not see reality for what it is; a creative product of unbridled imagination. We're so lucky that we still have Mariah giving us, if not her all then at the very least her best. When most people would have cowered away and been perfectly justified in doing so, she will stand on stage singing her heart out for us to the point where she is brought to tears. Letting all the world see her being so vulnerable is braver than most of us would ever be. If there ever was a time, now is the time we, the Lambily, should shower her with our love and dedication. I trust Mariah Carey to know a 120% what to do with her own life before I ever let random, caustic, anonymous posters dictate anything regarding the supposed reality about someone as inspirational and uplifting as Mariah has been to me for most of my life. Like, why you try so damn hard?

Randy (48,589) by Otti from Belgium
I loved reading your last post. You appear to be a very nice and an intelligent person. The problem with MC is, she is still relevant (comparing to Celine, Janet) and that makes her after 24 years very vulnerable in the eye of the public. Everyone is wachting with eagle eyes, is she giving a concert, making a video, releasing a singel or album? It's like people are waiting for her to fail. Can you imagine if she stopped after TEOM? Then she was at the top of her game, even her USA tour was critically acclaimed. At that time she was only 36 year old. And now she is paying the price for being relevant. When was Celine Dion her latest Hot 100 appearance? Or Janet? Mariah did appear with #Beautiful in 2013. But on the end she has nothing to prove. And after all this years I think she is still underrated. Beyonce sings (I mean talking) Drunk In Love and she got a Grammy. Mariah sings her lungs out of her body and no recognition. Nowadays everyone can get a Grammy, no matter what you sing, how you sing. You can talk, use autotune. Beyonce is by the Grammies so overrated, I don't get it.

Wendy Williams (48,588) by Dove from USA
I'd never heard of WW before somebody on this board mentioned she was slamming MC so I went and looked up her clips and, yeah, she does make MC look bad. Sometimes she'll give her a compliment but it's usually backhanded. Like when she was suggesting Mariah belonged in tampon covered Atlantic City. I found this clip from a few days ago (start at 4:10) and WW is actually being nice to MC and it seems genuine. The story is probably fake but at least it evokes compassion instead of ridicule. But I also noticed the audience seemed bored with "nice" Wendy. I watched several clips and I do find WW funny and entertaining when she's talking about other people, I just don't like when she slams MC. I feel like MC is in the last stage of her career as a public persona and I don't want her to go out as the butt of everyone's joke. I feel like she's tired of fame. Maybe I'm wrong but it's just a feeling I get, like the passion (for fame) is gone and she's just not into it anymore. She's had enough success, and made enough money, that she can now make music for herself and for her fans without making money or winning awards anymore. My dream is for her to be at the very top one more time, before she slows down, but who knows? I want her to find true live and live happily ever after already. What's Jeter up to?
