Mariah lyrics with double meanings (46,675) by Manny from U.S. I don't know if anyone has noticed Mariah writing certain lyrics with double meanings. For Example, Crybaby is the name of the song but for the lyrics she uses it as a verb "I still cry baby". In "More than friends", she sings "M-I-M-I okay". But you can also think of it as "Am I, Am I okay?" On the song "Dedicated" the rapper sings "Carry like Mariah" or it can be "Carey like Mariah". On "Meteorite", she sings Meteor-ite, ite, ite. But it can also be seen as she sang Meteor-ite, aight aight aight (the shortening of alright). I was just wondering if anyone else notices this. (Monday 8 September 2014; 9:25)

Thirsty (46,673) by Gerald from USA by the way of NYC Thirsty written by M. Carey, C. Hollis, D. Andrews, M. Tatum (MC's background singer). I know with the problems going on with the Cannons personal life everyone's speculating about certain songs but honestly why can't we just enjoy the music and leave all the other stuff between Mariah and Nick. I am sure when Mariah wants us to know someone regarding her marriage and personal life she will let us know. (Monday 8 September 2014; 3:56)

Ariana "Too Close" (46,670) by Bill from the UK Out of curiosity I listened to that song after your post QHM. The only similarity is the line "I've been thinking about you", which is the same melodically as Mariah's song, though the rest of the track was completely unlike our old Music Box fave. It could have just been a melodic "nod" to another song out of respect, like Mariah did on WBT. I've avoided Ariana, like I do most new artists, so it was interesting to hear the "new Mariah" if you will. Maybe my hearing is wearing out in my old age, but I couldn't understand a single word that girl said. Her enunciation and diction is actually terrible. She delivers in a pleasant tone though, so I get why she has a lot of fans. (Sunday 7 September 2014; 22:32)

Petals (46,669) by Philipp from Switzerland I'm praying that she sings Petals live on tour. I'm so in love with this song because it's so personal, it tells her story and it's very sad. There's a clip of her singing the song during the Rainbow Tour, and she's crying almost the entire performance. That gets me every time. (Sunday 7 September 2014; 17:54)

Faded and You Don't Know What To Do (46,668) by LC from USA Let me start off by saying that these two are two of my favorite songs on the album. They're incredible. Some fans were saying that Mariah could've written these songs about Nick. I don't think that's true simply because she wrote these in 2012/2013. If you don't remember, she first referenced lyrics from YDKWTD on the first episode of Idol, when she said to Nicki, "You love me more than you love sunny, summer days." As for Faded, which is the track most fans seem to think is the most about Nick, Mike Will Made It, the coproducer of the song shared a TBT pic of him and Mariah in the studio recording it and it is obvious that she did that after or before the episode of Idol when she premiered the #Beautiful video. She's wearing the same dress and has the same hair. So, it is possible that she didn't write these about him. (Sunday 7 September 2014; 16:28)

Mariah's catalogue (46,667) by Billy from Greece Although in recent years it was the death of specific artists that re-instigated public interest in them as personalities and in their body of work, I'm glad I'm appreciating Mariah in the present, for the abundance of music she has created and, subsequently, offered to the public. Reflecting on a very recent incident where a "fan" of Diana Ross ripped a picture of hers in front of her car when she did not sign it, I realize once more that even well-intentioned fans sometimes think that their favorite artists owe them something, be it the music they want to hear or attention. Aside from these issues, re-listening to "Charmbracelet" and "Memoirs" recently, along with the exquisite "Elusive Chanteuse", I'd like to say how much I admire Mariah as the artist she has chosen to become. Obviously, noone's perfect, and flaws are to be found. But, taking these albums as an instance, I find utterly admirable the way she re-invents the persona she has chosen to cultivate in public, which shows an insight that transcends the present moment. There is such richness in these albums that they can be approached like mini-"novels". Mariah has evolved from a girl with a fantastic voice to an artist whose spirit and creative imagination has infiltrated her work, resulting in thoroughly fulfilling musical experiences, that surpass anything middle-of-the-road, perfectly constructed/consumable out there. I've Been Thinking About You / Too Close (46,663) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Just heard the bonus tracks exclusively available on the Target/Japanese editions of Ariana's latest album. I like the Cadillac Song, it's sickly sweet. But it's the other song that really caught my attention in a bad way. Does anyone know if her song Too Close samples Mariah's I've Been Thinking About You? If you still haven't heard it, I strongly suggest you to. I've been Googling the production credits it for a while now because its chorus sounds dangerously close to that of Mariah's track. Well for starters, they both start with the same line with the same melody. Plus, the third line in the chorus also shares the same melody with IBTAY, only with different lyrics. Is it possible they actually officially sampled the song? The similarities are more than just striking (even the recent Billboard article begging to stop comparing Mimi and Ari mentions it), it's pretty incriminating. Could this be the reason why it was issued as a bonus track - to prevent possible legal action? (Sunday 7 September 2014; 4:11)

Mariah jazz cover versions (46,662) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines Mariah would rather compose her own material than cover other artists' songs, but in case she changes her mind and wants to do an album of remakes, I would really want it to be of standards/classics delivered in jazz. And the one with the "did my own makeup" caption is even cuter because she acknowledges her eyeliner was messy and it actually is messy which shows she is a bit more relaxed about looking perfect. I would love to hear Almost Home, Slipping Away, Music Box, Vanishing, Loverboy, Bringing On The Heartbreak, Blessed, Melt Away, Breakdown, Sweetheart, After Tonight, One & Only (Original or Part II), For The Record, Miss You, Endless Love, Circles, Ribbon, Make It Look Good, and Triumphan remix. She is really willing to listen to her fans' request. Could we all leave her messages to include Skydiving in her next compilation album as a bonus track? Keeping it classy (46,655) by 123 from USA I'm kind of shocked (but not surprised) by some of the fans on the board saying some scathing comments about Nick on the board. He never used Mariah. She isn't some brainless singer, she is very intelligent and would never have married and had children years later if he was not genuine. Him working a million jobs was to prove to you naysayers that he wasn't with her for her money or that he wasn't good enough for her. He will be in her life forever. This isn't a Tommy Motolla situation, this is the father of her children. If anything have respect for her children that will one day grow up and possibly run across this board and read all the comments "fans" left about their father. (Saturday 6 September 2014; 20:32)

Song origins / inspiration behind them (46,654) by 123 from USA YDKWTD, Cry, Faded, and Thirsty are old songs she made ages ago. Way before the accident. Mariah said Thirsty was not about Nick and was annoyed when he asked her about it because she wrote it a long time ago. She worked with another songwriter on Faded and Thirsty who confirmed those songs were made a while ago. Meteorite is not about Nick, it's dedicated to all the here today gone tomorrow stars that rise with a lot of success (Gaga, Ariana) but will disappear within a few years. A lot of fans have said that Camouflage is actually about her father, not Nick. She was stalling all this time because of the issues with her marriage, injury, label changes, losing to her label on how to release the album. YDKWTD was supposed to be the second single after Beautiful but then the pushback happened. That was the song she was supposed to sing at BET last year. (Saturday 6 September 2014; 20:27)

Why is everyone acting surprised? (46,653) by G.G. from USA Mariah told us all when the new album was first released that it reflected her life and what she had been going through. She gave us a lot of subtle hints. Now everybody is saying that they hear certain things in the new songs that relate to the possible divorce and problems in her marriage. Re: Drew / album tracklist (46,652) by Lara from Middle East I definitely agree with you. I also think that Mariah had many different songs recorded. Her album was to be released shortly after #Beautiful but her shoulder injury happened and I think that's when their trouble in her marriage has escalated, Mariah probably feeling abandoned in her pain (while she was all the time with Nick during his lupus crisis). So she went back to the studio and recorded Faded, Thirsty and also probably Meteorite, Cry, YDKWTD, Money. All of these can be applied to Nick. And it's no coincidence (if the rumours are true) that Nick left home in May, when the album was released. (Saturday 6 September 2014; 18:03)

A probable reason (46,651) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines As we all may have observed, Mariah seems to get more and more personal with her songwriting as she ages. Yes, Nick was quite the filterless tool for divulging private details about their marriage and his previous relationships. Ever since the rumors first came out, Mariah has tried to say as little as possible, but we all knew that sooner or later it all had to come out in true Mariah fashion (since Butterfly) - her music. She didn't like him running his mouth, and he probably also didn't want any of their troubles to come out in any of her songs. And when both happened anyway, when MIAMTEC came out and confirmed all Nick's fears, that probably marked the tipping point for their already tumultuous relationship. As none of us know what actually transpired between them under whatever roof they were in, I don't wanna start pointing fingers. One thing's for sure: they were great while they lasted. She looks like she lost weight and looks so beautiful and healthy. The other close up she posted of her face makes her look so fresh and beautiful. She looks like she is in her 30s.
