I was wondering (47,304)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Hi Edward, I'm man enough to take criticism and to think on my actions. I'm not kissing ass, don't get me wrong. I just express frustration with sarcasm, dark humour, etc. like Stephen I do find it totally childish when ridiculous, untrue statements are made I guess. But I won't use someone to support my own arguments. I thought about it for the past day because I laughed in exasperation last time. At an online board. Then I questioned doing that. I will never get past how I feel as a fan and what I perceive to being "lamb"ness. I do not, for the last time, believe Mariah's fans not telling her the truth is right. It is, ostensibly, as bad as the people around her doing it. You know what I think. I get frustrated when there are endless posts telling her it's all good. I worry that the end is nigh. I'd personally rather she quit than go down in flames. I don't see an argument against it. Her vocals improved slightly. But the world is watching. What we covered up stands no chance of not coming out. So I put it to the people on this board, with sincerity, what should we all do? Do we go for it? Do we scream our opinion that it should be another way? Let's talk about what is best for Mariah now, for her legend, and for her future well being. And I'll drop the sarcasm. I hold my hand out.

May / to nodule or not to nodule (47,303)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
May, as you very well stated, technology and science have advanced a world since '97 when Julie Andrews went under the knife to correct a non-cancerous throat condition that didn't have anything to do with voice decline or nodules. Laser has substituted the knife with such precision that artists like Adele, Justin Timberlake, Steven Tyler, to name a few, have had their voices corrected successfully. Removing Mariah's nodules could improve her voice significantly or even bring it back, but such procedure would also take away with it her ability to use the whistle register. It is a big dilemma for Mariah when she would lose what has set her apart from Whitney, Celine and many others. She had the best of both worlds: a wonderful and powerful singing voice, and the ability to not only tap into the whistle register like many other artists like the late Minnie Riperton, Rachelle Ferrell and Chanice do/did, but also enunciate while on it. It would be a pretty difficult decision for Mariah to decide whether to nodule or not to nodule.

Nice movementsss (47,302)
by May from Denmark

The sound recording is not the best as its obviously one of those phones that tones down the surrounding sounds to make close sounds be better but that's not what I actually care. I share this full recording of Mariah performing "All I want for Christmas" because she is so vivid. Look how much fun she is having, she is really uplifted, it truly makes me enjoy a lot seeing her perform this way. Watching the whole thing was really nice and it left me with a joyous feeling. I'm just waiting for someone to upload "Petals" and hopefully with good sounds.

Tour to UK, dream come true (47,300)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
The more she is getting into these shows, the better her performance. Nikki, I also in a previous post wondered if it was physical vocal issues or if she was having a cold, to be honest can't tell the difference by now but the tour you mentioned also came to mind as soon as I heard her in the opening. I didn't know that in that one she was ill. Before this tour in her last tv live she sang pretty well so I didn't expect her voice in that state. The Yokohama presentation was good and her vibe too and judging by the beautiful and detailed comment from K-zee she is only getting better. It almost makes me think that she just wasn't fully ready to kick in the tour, a couple of things give me this impression. The rehearsals being almost on the time for the tour (as opposed to preparing with more time), the late new added songs to the lists, there was this "rusty" feeling in her opening, like a gear that needed to be oiled a bit, clearly because she hasn't toured in a long time. And that she sometimes was out of breath, she always exercises before tours but then again with the issue with the album, the divorce, the moving from home, etc. doing any gym might have been the least in her mind. I'm glad everything is going better, if she does tour the UK next year, surely she will be at her best as she is coming out of this one. If she does tour I would really like to take advantage and see her perform.

Andrew / name calling (47,299)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Andrew, I completely understand your frustration. Many of us have been there for years now, always hopeful for some improvement, but nonetheless still supportive. Some have move on, and it is okay. Please try to to tone it down a little bit. I don't see anything wrong with you expressing your frustrations, but try to refrain from name calling and other derogatory epithets for you will be getting the same response even when your point of view might not be a crazy one. As I said before, I don't see you as a hater/troll, but you're coming across as one. When it comes to Mariah, some fans can be too passionate. Many fans, for personal reasons, are heavily invested in her music/voice. For instance Travon was bullied and her music helped him get through it. Some feel a sense of loss, and some other are tired the gimmicks. We can all debate these things here as long as we keep it cool. There have been some cyber-tsunamis and E-quakes on this board through the years, but we have managed to work things out. Peace.

Mariah does have credit (47,298)
by May from Denmark
| |
|
|
Hi Baby. When you say "medical advice" clearly is about my post, I talked about it specifically because someone brought up the subject. While I don't give medical advice because I'm not a doctor I did leave the question open as to wondering why Mariah hasn't chose the option of a surgery and that she might have her reason, also added that while I would like her to find a more definite solution (as I would like her to keep singing 10 years more, if possible always as I enjoy her music) that whatever she thinks it's the proper thing to do she should do it. About Julie Andrews it's an ongoing myth that she had nodules, and is a myth that herself clarified in an interview, she never had nodules and never got an operation for such thing, she had other problems. By the time she got the surgery done her singing voice was already gone, reason why she didn't even have a job anymore, the surgery just didn't turn as she was expecting and if anything made things worst for the remaining of her voice, which would have fade anyway even without the surgery. Let's remember also that any procedure in the 90s is outdated, there has been a big advancement in medical science and technology. I do give credit to Mariah, her late effort has shown a lot, and I gave her the chance since the time of her last tour and she had improved, which is why I was surprised at the opening. But things seems to start getting better.

Andrew / Dago (47,297)
by Abraham from USA

Save it for someone who cares, because I don't. Dago, I agree with what you think about the song "The wind". It's one of the many songs from Mariah I enjoy. It is very dark and haunting. And yes, every time I've played it, New York comes to mind. I pictured her singing the song in some night club. The ones where people would tell poetry. I would love to hear Mariah sing that song live. I know she could do it. Also, I love your pic. That picture could have an album cover.

But don't believe that's all there is to see (47,296)
by Andrew from UK

I thank Marcel for his reasoned comments on why I was jumped on for the "psychopath" comment. To explain: It was as dark a humour as the changing of If It's Over lyrics. I understand that doesn't come across in text. Yet I accept that people will jump to the worst conclusion because of the context oft other messages. That being said: I love Mariah.Let's think about this. I love Mariah, but there are two types of fans: those who try to convince everyone it was live and those who just accept it wasn't and question why. I was in the former until I woke up and people said "no, mate, we ain't buying it". Now I'm a realist. But I'm trying to tell you there's nothing "wrong" with accepting the truth. It will help us and it will help MC know that she doesn't have to keep up the pretence. Let's all be honest with her and her with us. If you were offended I apologise, I'm man enough to, I still think you're nuts, but let's all lighten up. Nothing is the end of the world. Believe me I want what's best. What I think is best for Mariah is not what a lot of you do. I think your sentiment will see the end of her career and legend. And you think me a negative "troll". I offered to hold the UK fan meeting in the city of London in the bar I run but people flaked (were all talk) for lambs and fans alike. I want the best. Sharon Osbourne defending her on The View is not the best. But you have your way and I don't mind. Enjoy The View.

One of my favorite songs (47,295)
by D.D. from USA
| |
|

The Wind is probably one of my favorite songs ever. It is so deep, so beautiful, kinda dark, so New York and jazzy (and I've never even been to New York) but that what I get when I listen to this haunting song. It touches a sensitive subject for some, but it is so beautiful and perfect.

Support and help Mariah like she has helped you through the years (47,294)
by D.D. from USA

I hope everyone is well. Happy hump day. If I offended anyone with my previous posts, I'm sorry because that was not the intention. All of us come here to get away from everyday things and catch up on all things Mariah. We have to respect each other and allow each other to state their opinion, even if we don't like it. That being said, I would like to state again, and a lot of us here have said it over and over, that we should be more supportive of Mariah during these times. We all know what she is going through. She is not touring because she needs the money. She has helped each and everyone of us at one point or another during difficult times. I used t listen to #1's cd on my Discman, falling asleep many nights to it, thinking that she is a gift and an inspiration. And I don't care about sales and numbers because when it comes to Mariah's voice and music, "they can't do it like this". It's one thing to have an opinion, but it's the intent behind it. For laughs check out Jimmy Kimmel's Celebrity read mean tweets. Sad but funny. Mariah needs our support as fans, as human beings. Peace.

Just back from Seoul concert (47,292)
by K-zee from Korea
| |
|
|
She had so much energy, was having such a good time, and the friendly banter we know and love was out in full force. Also the jazzy adlibs about "and I don't know the words because it's not my song and I didn't write it but I like it" (during Don't Explain) and "and I didn't even do that on purpose" (when forgetting the verse in We Belong Together) made a really warm atmosphere. When she sang, the whole audience was listening. . like at a classical music concert. It was really beautiful. It was such a funny crowd, everyone would gasp at amazing moments. This big collective gasp. The show didn't have: Dont Forget About Us, Vision Of Love, Cry, I'll Be There, Hero, Shake It Off. But, it did have: Petals, Rainbow (interlude), and All I Want For Christmas as the last song. It was really such a festive moment to end on. It's such a happier closer than Hero. The crowd was so pumped. So glad to hear it, such a nice surprise. Of course, some songs were mimed. I didn't mind for upbeat songs, as then when she would sing the following whole song it would be flawless. My life was complete hearing her sing We Belong Together so beautifully. Also, Emotions has never really connected with me, but her delivery of it really made me emotional (sorry ) and it's stuck in my head now. I don't know what's happened between Tokyo and now, but she sounded so great and not strained at all. It was outside and very cold, so the mystery is even greater.

Old school, the show must go on attitude (47,291)
by nikki from usa
| |
|
|
It sounds to me like Mariah has a cold. She sounded very similiar to other live performances throughout the years where she sings sick. She will too, because she has that "the show must go on" attitude. Divas Live, despite her sore throat and doctor's recommendation, she sang. The Adventures Tour kick off was almost postponed due to MC's viral infection, but Mariah refused. She locked herself in a hotel room for 3 days with humidifiers and went on anyway. Her next stop was Tampa where I was front and center. Her vocals were amazing and she adlibbed up a storm. Exhibit A is her Around The World video. She kicks off in Asia and her voice is 100% perfect. By the time we reach Hawaii Mariah has a cold. You can hear it in her vocals. The one thing that the rest of her Adventures and Charmbracelet tours had in common where her vocals were amazing were buses. Constant traveling in hotel rooms is Mariah's vocal kryptonite because it affects her sleep and exposes her to too many germs. I'd wait for several more concerts before declaring "vocal decline" because we've heard far better from her not too long ago.

Hard to believe that a year ago, Mariah was posting that sexy picture of her cleavage and was waiting for him. You have to think that whatever went down between the two of them, had to have happened very recently, like around Valentine's Day.

For those of you who think she lipped her high notes, think again. If she was going to lip them they would have sounded more like the studio version. She's not going to risk getting got lipping after the debacle over her vocals last weekend. She's not stupid. What happened to the be nice or leave motto this board used to have? The last point I want to make is Mariah's voice may have changed with the wear and tear but in my opinion it's made her more soulful. Added a soulful grit to her amazing voice. You people are acting like her voice is as shot a poor Whitney's was before her passing.

Her voice was on point. No one can say she lipped that performance. She has jitters, always has. She's never been comfortable on stage, her home is in the studio. She rebounded nicely with the second concert. Give her a chance.

Conclusion (47,285)
by Anthony Basco from Cardiff, Wales

|
|
After the past few days of this whole unfortunate incident on this message board, I just want to clarify something before I can move on to more positive areas once again. Firstly, to anyone in their mind thinking I should no longer be a fan, please read through all my posts before the past few days and see just how full of positivity and defence of Mariah they are. Also, I have been coming to this board since I was 13; I'm now 25. I have all MCs albums on CD and iTunes (and a good deal on vinyl) and also all her concert DVDs, VHS etc. Also two frames pictures of her on my wall. Secondly, I come to this board as a safe place as a fan where I can discuss my feelings regarding Mariah and her voice, artistry, current affairs etc. I come here to voice concerns as well as praise for Mariah. I would never make any negative comment on any other Internet forum or real life, and I am proud to tell people that I am a huge Mariah fan, even when facing ridicule (and believe me - saying you're a Mariah fan in the UK gets you nothing but stick). My harsher messages were more a reaction to the frankly hideous responses some people here received which shocked me. I come here to discuss with other fans and also to hear and give opinion. I just wanted to make it clear that I am and always will be a massive fan of Mariah's, her status as my idol will never go and I will never abandon her even if I criticise. I am very much looking forward to moving on to more positive times.

Two questions (47,279)
by Abraham from USA
| |
|
|
My first question is, does anybody think since Mariah sang Billie Holiday at one of her shows, is she going to cover that song on her next album?Second question is, was Mariah really singing "Fantasy" live at the Yokohama area? It sounded really good. I watched the "Touch my body" clip and that was clearly live. Glad she's trying. I think she will get better as she does more shows. What does anybody think? What a difference from the "I'll be there" performance. She looked sad, out of it and disgusted, and in the "Fantasy" and "Touch my body" performances. She looked alive, energized and like she was having fun. Also, can we acknowledge just how gorgeous and amazing she looks. I'm really happy for her.
