I get you're joking (46,244) by Brad Catoe from United States
But that's further stigmatizing mental illness. Even though we don't actually know what happened to her during her "breakdown" it was obvious she was dealing with mental illness [censored]. I joke about inappropriate stuff all the time, but joking about mental illness and weight shaming is something you might not want to write down on the internet. Just saying.

Seperation comments (46,243) by Dove from USA
I didn't want to comment but I am. My divorce just finalized on Monday, after 12 years together, so I feel them. We went to eat afterwards, and it was so sad letting that chapter end. Even though we knew we shouldn't be together anymore, it still hurts, especially because of our son. My heart is breaking for them. I don't want to see her a drunken mess, not sleeping, and rambling. I want her to be happy and at peace. Wearing normal clothes, doing the ice bucket challenge, smiling and being okay, and nominating Nick Cannon because they are going to remain friends. It was beautiful while it lasted. She looked so happy and in love for a while and that was a gift.

Mariah and Nick (46,242) by Gilbert from USA
I feel bad but I personally think when someone is with someone is because they are a "fan" I don't think it would work out because they are really just in love with the super star. Just an opinion and I think the same thing happened with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, she said she was a big fan of his as well. I really wish them the both but if they are unhappy then they chose to move on separately. Mariah is an amazing songwriter, I bet she is experiencing so much right now that I bet she has quite a few songs lined up already. I never really thought of Mariah as this huge super star, I always thought of her as someone very close to my heart even though I really don't know her but I connect with her through her music.

Johnta Austin nominated Mariah for the ice bucket challenge. I think this is not the good time for this, but...

Joke I stole from tumblr, don't kill me (46,240) by Jonathan from United States
I'm hoping for one of 2 outcomes after Mariah’s divorce. She either gets really skinny like 2008 skinny and looks really good as revenge or she becomes a drunken mess and chaos ensues. Like it’s 4 am and she drunkenly breaks into the abandoned TRL set singing #Beautiful.

Separation (46,238) by Darryle from USA
It's really sad to hear Mariah and Nick are separated. I bet this is terribly hard on the both of them with all the media scrutiny and people placing blame on one of them or the other. I hope they can work it out and stay together. It would suck for Mariah to have to relive what her parents went through. Even if they can't work it out I hope they maintain a friendly relationship if not for themselves then for their kids.

AIWFCIY (46,237) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So I was watching a promo for a currently popular TV show, it's called Pretty Little Liars with a main target audience of teens and young adults I suppose. And in their next episode which will lead on to their Christmas episode to be aired later this year, in the background there was AIWFCIY the original version playing. I am happy to see that. I wish more of Mariah's music was featured as background songs for shows like this so that would get Mariah the attention of the younger audiences (who are the people that mostly buy music nowadays). I saw many artists like Gaga and Beyoncé and many others let shows use their songs because once it gets into the heads of the teenagers they will locate it and buy it and in the process look for more songs in that artist's catalogue. Mariah, God bless her, has an incredible talent that even after 24 years in the business, still manages to write songs that can easily match up and set up trends. She can use shows and movies to get her songs to a more diverse group. Memoirs for instance would have been a teenagers go to album, it's so cute and mushy and romantic. I love Memoirs, it is mature at the same time there is an innocence throughout the album. Other Mariah songs would be equally popular with the younger generation of only they would know about it. E=MC2, Emancipation, Rainbow, Butterfly, Chanteuse. Come on.

Mariah and Nick separation thoughts (46,236) by Bradley Zirker from United States
Even though I could honestly care less, it is sad to know that Mariah and Nick are living separately. And the possibility of them getting a divorce would probably tear them apart badly because of the joy they both had when they were first together. It mostly wouldn't look good for their children. Parents that divorce and share custody of their child/children always effect the child/children in many ways. All in all, I actually hope everything works out for them married or not. Hopefully they can fix their problems as a married couple. Not just for the sake of their children but for the sake of their love for one another.

Reference to MIAM album in the year 2007 (46,235) by Philipp from Switzerland
I came across a Mariah article in the Magazine "Interview" in the September 2007 issue. In that article she already talks about the picture she drew when she was a kid, which would 7 years later be included on the backcover of her album:
IS: [tour continues] And what is this?
MC: These are all antique jewelry cases that Mario made into award cases. This is the Aretha Franklin Award from Soul Train, that's Quincy Jones Award, these are all Soul Train Music Awards, these are World Music Awards, these are Vibe Awards, these are Grammys. These are NAACP [Image Awards]. And these are the Billboard Awards, and that's another BMI Award. Just today I was thinking I have a lot of these BMI awards and I didn't even realize it because they were in storage. This is for "We Belong Together". This is heavy - feel this. And this is my self-portrait from when I was a little girl. [Carey and Sischy read in unison] "Me, I am Mariah." [Carey laughs] Here's the Marilyn bathroom.
I just thought that's funny

MimiLamb / May (46,234) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
MimiLamb, yeah, I regretted it as soon as I submitted my post. Although it is a word often thrown around here, but I apologize to those who find it offensive. May, we seem to agree on a lot of stuff. Nice. Haha. P.S. Just realized this may be my shortest post ever. How uncharacteristic of me.

Songs I wish were Mariah's (46,233) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
5) Celine Dion - Why Oh Why (Celine's is good, but R&B is Mariah's turf)
4) Whitney Houston - You Give Good Love (I'm still hoping her to cover this as a tribute)
3) Anita Baker - Caught Up In The Rapture (Mariah would just soar with this one)
2) Beyoncé - Love On Top (dem 4 key changes, enough said)
1) Whitney Houston - Just The Lonely Talking Again (Mariah's breathy coo would fit this jazzy number better)

This is the saddest news. My heart is breaking for Mariah. Camouflage is such a beautiful song and it was so personal and touching. I really hope they can save the marriage.

Me. I Am Mariah (46,230) by Will from England
With all that has been going on between Nick and Mariah, listening to the album is a different other experience. And listening to the lyrics a little bit closer, the album is full of a pain that I had not noticed before and it's the rawest lyrical album that Mariah has ever put out, excluding Butterfly, hands down. Mariah doesn't need to release a statement about whether or not the rumours are true, because as far as I am concerned, the album speaks in volumes about the whole situation. And I realise now what she meant by it's the journey of the past few years, and to be honest, it's so sad to hear her unhappy. The music may be disco-esque on some songs, but the lyrics tell a different story. I hope that they can work it out with the trial separation. Anyone remember when Mariah said that if she had had a trial separation with Tommy, she'd probably still be with him?

Yes we all fall in that this_is_qhm (46,228) by May from Denmark
I do think Mariah through these years has learnt how to cope with the pain. In the past she tried to do it with overwork, remember when she had her final collapse and everybody was in shock. But this time, she has done it in a genius way. The whole album, like some mentioned here already, takes a new meaning. While a lot of us already "deciphered" some of the songs and related some of what it might have been going on, now it is in light, that the whole album is about her relationship and the way she has been dealing with it. Instead of overworking herself, stressing or crying all alone having intervals of depression or anger like it happened in the past, she has placed everything in these wonderful songs, that not to anyone surprise, is one of her best works (the very best for some). Even Heavenly takes a new spin when you read "I just can't give up now, come too far from where I started from, nobody told me the road would be easy". She is telling us already right there, she will go on and it will be fine. She obviously has been dealing with this a long long time. Glad she took this beautiful artistic road.

Whining is not a very nice way to describe what the optimists' do I must say. We can call you pessimists' whiners too you know lol it kind off goes hand in hand, but would be nice from both parties to not be called a whiner but someone giving an different opinion.

Sad for the situation (46,226) by May from Denmark
While I perceived this long ago and I shared my thoughts on this board about it before now sadly is confirmed. She was very right when she wrote the lyrics "I'm the best thing that could happen to your a**" but what pisses me off is that he hurt her. It wasn't just all the talking Nick did but his absence. When she mentioned she was through the pregnancy all on her own, and she sounded so freaking sad you could sense something off. In the late interviews Nick did, when asked "oh, you were engaged not long before Mariah" and he laugh his butt off really hard and said "I've been engaged so many times I forgot the count", wah? I personally never liked him simply because I find him annoying and I feel his laughs are forced, I don't think he is funny and when he started dating Mariah I rolled my eyes but she choose him and she seemed very happy so I was happy for her. What it made me truly dislike Nick as a person is that everything he did was publicly, I felt he wanted camera. But Mariah, smart as she is left hints everywhere. This lyrics "tell me that you love me, I cry and cry as you laugh and laugh at the question" make me feel really bad and Supernatural "you're the only thing that's true". While I didn't understand the her absence I now do understand the album title. She will make it through, and the fact that she is already making music says that she is strong and will be fine with her two darlings. Nick, shut up.

Separation / touring (46,225) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I've tried to avoid commenting on Mariah and Nick's marriage because I'm just not comfortable discussing other people's relationship problems. But since Nick has already broken his silence, I guess I could say that whatever happens to their relationship from now on, what matters is that they've had a good run. I mean, 6 years is practically a lifetime when it comes to Hollywood marriages, and an eternity for high profile ones. We're sure they've made each other happy until they didn't and have 2 gorgeous kids to show for it. I just hope now that they end it amicably. People are always gonna pick sides and trash-talk the other party, which is bad enough, so we don't want an ugly divorce on top of that. Maybe that's one reason for Mariah choosing to tour outside the US first. It's an escape, a diversion from all the drama and media circus. She wants to bring the kids with her so they won't be stalked by arguably more relentless American paparazzi especially during the aftermath of what could possibly happen next. Whatever happens, I wish them all well.

I'm one of the optimists (it almost sounds like a disease lol), I don't think it's the fact we see things a little less critical because even I sometimes think what the hell is going on. The difference is that I don't start to rant because I don't have all the facts nor do I know what happens behind the scenes, is it about the sales or for instance their marriage. For me Mariah is a person that has been by my side for the last 24 years with her music and her lyrics. That is how I see her and what I appreciate. Why should I stress about other things when I don't even know what's going on? The only thing what will happen is a negative atmosphere and pull down the person that is a positive thing in my life. That is why I just don't go there. I think this is a good example of how wrong we can be by just assuming and not knowing. Mariah was never a person that will go public with her private life and I don’t think she will ever do that. She lets the music speak for itself. Some should concentrate on that instead of things that don’t matter or you don’t know the facts about.

Sad news if it's true (46,223) by Manny from U.S.
Nick has admitted they are living in separate households. If they do divorce, I feel bad for Mariah. Her kids are three years old. The same age Mariah was when her parents divorced. They always seemed like a happy couple. I was glad she found that stability with her marriage and kids. I liked Nick in the beginning. They were so in love. Later he was so immature and I could see why Mariah might have gotten tired of him. He started irritating me. I wonder if this news will turn MIAM into her break up record and people will reconsider it. Just a thought. I'm sad and I hope they can make the best decision for Roc and Roe.

Mariah's struggles / eternal optimists (46,221) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I feel awful now. Mariah was probably struggling trying to keep everything together in her troubled career while simultaneously trying to mend the tears in her marriage all while trying to keep up this facade that everything is fine. While I on the other hand, did nothing but wonder why she wasn't out there promoting her latest work, complaining about the prolonged silence, and suggesting every sort of solution there is to save this era. Our love for Mariah really is a double-edged sword. While it does make us comprehend and appreciate her more than the casual listener would, it could also cause us to be quite cavalier and make us momentarily forget that this is Mariah freaking Carey we're talking about - the same woman who's provided a lot of the best soundtracks to our lives for the past quarter of a century. You'd think knowing that would be enough for us to back off a bit from the criticism and realize that she's also human, just like all of us. But apparently no, since we're also human, we also need to be reminded at times to acknowledge the fact that she's the reason we're all here. So I'm not retracting every defense I've hurled towards dem eternal optimists ("This goes out to you and you, and you...") who constantly whine about why some fans like me can be so critical, but I'll have to thank them, because even if they constantly contradict us, they still knock us down a peg or two when we need to be, helping maintain a state of balance on this board by being the ying to our critical yang. I (as well as other critics, I'm sure) am not gonna promise to never criticize again, but I'm going to try to be more understanding from now on. And to Mariah, on the very off chance you're reading any of our ramblings, I'm sorry.

Filipino fans (46,219) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Just discovered a Filipino Mimi fan club who have their own group page on Facebook (Mariah Carey Philippines). It doesn't have as much members as those from other countries have, but they still make me so proud to be a Mariah fan and a Filipino one at that. I've just recently been a part of it and I can say these are some of the most passionate fans I've met online, posting comments, song/album reviews, videos of their own renditions of Mimi's songs left and right. They claim to be the biggest Mimi fanclub in Asia and they just celebrated their 12th anniversary earlier this month (also the 12th) with an event they lovingly called "Eternally Twelve". It can't get any more Mariah than that. I'm just grateful for fans like them who still worship the queen no matter what. I also believe they're part of the reason why almost all of Mariah's releases here go straight to #1 and stay there for at least a few days. I'm really sorry if this comes across as bragging (I swear it's not my intention), I guess it's just overwhelming that such huge support can come from such a small country that's often overlooked geographically, it just makes it so hard for me not to be proud. I'm glad there are fans like them as well as others scattered all around the world including us on this board who are behind Mariah all the way, especially during these tough times in her personal and professional life.
