Negativity (45,002) by G.G. from USA
I, myself, have been critical of how the album promo has been handled and some of MC's incoherent interviews, but there is a lot of negativity being thrown Mariah's way lately. I'm starting to feel bad for her. I visit a couple of other celebrity/music blogs and commenters there have nothing nice to say about her and now it's feeling that way on this site too. The other sites/blogs I visit obviously don't like Mariah, because their owners never post a nice article about MC.

JLo (45,001) by Dove from USA
Can we stop talking about Jennifer Lopez? It's boring. Not to be a hater, and yeah, JLo seems like a nice person, but she is not a meteorite like Mariah. It annoys me that she thinks she's in the same catagory. Mariah is the Beatles and JLo is The Turtles. In 50 years nobody will know who JLo is.

And anyone else debating about the stolen sample. It wasn't just one sample. It was concepts (plural) of Mariah's album, Glitter, that she had to last minute change because certain people were trying to sabotage her and build their own career.

(Re: Mimi) JLo / Luis Miguel and other divas (44,999) by Edward from USA
Mimi, I agree with you 100%. JLo won't ever be musically at Mariah's level, but she definitely projects a more likable image on interviews. I saw her on Wendy Williams, and it was refreshing seeing her genuinely laughing and talking on the show. You would never think this woman has a big ego. What I don't quite understand is why Mariah never put her diva act back when she was hot, instead of now when most people think she's arrogant. This Marilyn persona is getting ridiculous now. Mariah is a brand, that is not only music now, it is a complete package, and one thing definitely affects the other. I'm Latino, and never liked Luis Miguel's attitude in the media, even though I still listened to him, most of my family refused to because of his diva attitude, yes, Luis Miguel thinks that his feces don't stink, and you can count with the fingers of a one-hand man the interviews he's ever given, but he is a powerful and great vocalist, and they can't take that way from him. I have observed that many people didn't buy his music because of his attitude, including my father.

Public image (44,998) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
I agree people hate Mariah, they have the wrong impression blah blah blah whatever, but at this point what are you gonna do? I mean we have the Nicki fans, Eminem fans, Ariana fans, and even some of our very own lambily with their pitchforks ready for her. There's no winning them over by playing nice now. I say she should just stop doing interviews, promote her music and allow that to speak for itself. Then retire because nobody really has her back anyway.

In no way did I try to justify Mariah sampling without permission. Clearly Emotions was "inspired" by Best Of My Love (I even hear a little bit of "Devotion" by Earth, Wind, And Fire in the melody). However though it sounds very similar it's not the exact same beat. Having said that I can understand how that line between sampling and recreating the same sound can be blurred especially during the early 90s, when it was still a fairly new trend. Regardless MC ultimately paid the price and learned a valuable lesson. You're acting like Mariah and J.Lo are the same and they're not. Mariah is a true artist and though she sampled sounds atleast she brought something to the table: her originality with lyrics, melody, and vocals. J.Lo just received handouts from Tommy, who stole from Mariah's creativity. I would be frustrated too if I put an idea together only to have it snacked away from someone who's not nearly as talented or creative. I blame J.Lo because she didn't care and acted oblivious to what happened. She's still using Mariah's ideas (amongst other people) working with the same people and trying to use the same formulas. I just don't respect her as an artist at all sorry. To each it's own, but they're not in the same category. No blinders it's clear to me.

YDKWTD cover / is it that serious? (44,996) by Edward from USA
I'm glad that they have finally announced the YDKWTD as the next single, that's what matters to me. I do care whether there would be a version of the song without Wale, and the remixes. I don't really care about the cover of the single, whether it is being airbrushed properly or not. When I don't like a cover, since it is a digital picture, I remove it from the mp3, and add a picture that I like. I deleted those Candies from YM(E), and replace them with something different that didn't scream I'm a girly girl. I also removed the Rainbow's cover and replaced it with a picture of her face that doesn't scream I'm diva galore. I don't like the reaction of people when they see all these pictures popping up on my phone when I'm searching through music while riding the subway, that's why I use an application to make it look good. I think Mariah is really sexy, but it is getting corny with all these look-at-me I'm sexy pictures.

YDKWTD (44,995) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I am glad this is the new single. Perfect summer song. I hope Mariah promotes it this time so that it gets the attention it deserves. Has there been any info about where and how she will promote it? I hope she visits Ellen, Fallon and Wendy. I really wish Mariah would do one of those skits with Fallon which goes viral. Can't wait for the video. Hoping for this to be her next number 1 or at least top 5 hit. Come on Mariah, it has the potential just start shoving it down people's throats by appearing everywhere and you will bag your next number 1.

Blah (44,994) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I will try to make this my last post about the current JLo-MC debate (try being the keyword). I knew some fans will still defend MC no matter what and that's fine. But it isn't really doing much good for MC, since this will just encourage her to continue with her diva act, which lets be honest is driving her further and further away from some of her fans. I am no JLo fan but I recently watched some of her interviews and I have to say the woman knows how to work interviews and promos. You see her on a talk show and you feel that she is just another girl whom you can go up and talk to (yes I am well aware that she is known to be a major diva but in show business no one cares what a person is like at home, they care about what they see in public). Jennifer has also been in the business for many years but she almost sounds like it's her first album. Her excitement, the energy, and most importantly the direct answers makes the interviews flow smoothly. Hate me all you want, I don't care. This was exactly what MC was (serious, with a sense of humor and humble and relatable) before the fame and divaness got to her head. Also why should Nick be cursed at for interviewing her? It's his job. Even Nick is graceful enough to acknowledge Eminem and say he is ready to move on from the fight with Eminem and chose to "save" him over this other person, I forgot. I am not saying Eminem should be forgiven, just giving an example.

Mariah Carey (44,993) by CHAZ from USA
I really miss Mariah Carey. I could care less about Mimi, the Imperfect Angel, and now the Elusive Chanteuse. Her image is shot. She's a laughing stock to the public. I'll always defend her, but reality hurts.

GG getting personal (44,992) by nOVA from USA
There you go getting all personal, attacking me personally. My point stands. Mariah has faced incredible discrimination from birth and now 20 years in the game fans question her usage of ebonics in her lyrics? Yes, to me that smacks of racism. A lot of young people today don't realize radio even in the 80s predominately played white artists. [...] so to speak. Perhaps you need to examine why ebonics bother you so much. But that would be getting personal.

Blah blah blah (44,991) by Roman from USA
I just don't get what it is with all the negativity. Of course you can have your opinions and no you don't have to like everything Mariah does but some of you are so fickle. It amazes me how bent out of shape some of you will get over a photoshopped cover. It's really not that serious. Nothing against JLo but let's be real, she knew very well what was going on back then. I'm not even blaming her and I'm sure she's not that same girl. So it's great that she wants to be friends with our girl and who's to say Mariah is holding a grudge just because she hasn't spoken about JLo. And big deal if she doesn't want anything to do with her. Life is to short. Sit back and enjoy the music.

Lamb O Chop (44,990) by Bill from the UK
You've got to take a step back slightly and listen to yourself. Mariah uses a sample without permission, it's inspiration. J.Lo uses one with permission, which Mariah also wanted to use, and she's a thief. You indicate the sample stealing that Mariah did in the 90s was Tommy's doing, yet the Loverboy scandle is both Tommy and J.Lo's. Mariah knew exactly what was happening with Emotions and Make It Happen just like Jennifer did with I'm Real. Stop trying to paint a picture of Mariah being the innocent party here when she isn't. Take your blinkers off. I'd understand Mariah being peeved if it was an original song/idea but it wasn't. Jennifer used a sample Mariah wanted to use, and she's still not over it 15 years later. I don't like Jennifer or care for any of her songs or rate her as singer, actress, or anything else, but it infuriates me seeing people behaving so blindly here. What goes around comes around and Mariah got it.

YDKWTD single cover (44,989) by Jay from USA
It isn't scary or "eww" and there's nothting wrong with MC's face, it's just a really bad photoshop job. It's almost like Def Jam gave a classroom project to a class of middle schoolers and this is the end result. And can we stop wih the JLo comments? I mean, she has an album to promote so she may or may not say anything to protray herself as humble. "I don't know her" so I can't say whether or not she is humble. But I highly doubt we'l see Mariah and her walking down the street giggling like school girls or their twins ever having a play date. It's okay for people not to be friends. On a lighter note, has anyone had any luck turning the Butterfly drink into a alcoholic mixed drink? No? Am I the only one who bought it?

MC is definitely losing it (44,988) by jaker20 from US
That cover is terrible lol. Just as bad as the album cover. The song is great, and deserves something more creative than MC wearing another swimsuit. That is partly why people don't pick them up, because they are embarrassed by the image they are buying. Why is not able to do creative covers apart from this Maxim/Playboy style poses? It's so 90s, so old fashioned. Creative does not mean sensual. With all the money she has, she can afford a great cover artist to do something more creative.

Stealing ideas and sampling (44,987) by Lamb_O_Chop from Australia
Nothing's wrong with using samples of a song that everyone already knows, and it is called" inspiration" when can recreate something familiar with completely original elements. Ofcourse you need permission first or else you'll have to pay the price. In which justice has already been served. However that's still different from taking part in stealing an idea before the person that thought of it first gets to use it (for the sake of sabotaging that person's career). That's called being a "snake". You all may think it's "silly" or it is a "petty" situation or whatever, but Mariah had every right to be pissed and to take it personal. How is it "getting a taste of her own medicine" when Tommy was probably behind those songs not being properly cleared himself. More like she got a taste of "Tommy's medicine", but go ahead and try to keep justifying J.Lo and Tommy's wrong doings just to bring Mariah down if that's what makes you all happy. For the record: I'm not saying Mariah is perfect, by any means. I'm just saying I can understand why she has an issue with certain people and scenarios they were involved in.

Ok (44,986) by Lee from USA
But why is everyone caring about the single cover? As long as the music is critically acclaimed, it shouldn't matter too much. Ain't she promoting it like she was supposed to for the last 2-3 weeks that her CD's been out? And what's the point of being relatable to everybody? We can't just go up to our favorite celebs and go drinking and dancing with them. I have seen artists hold grudges all of the time, and it doesn't mean they are not likeable. Elvis hated the Beatles, but it didn't make him less liked. If Mimi was holding a grudge, then Nick should have been cursed out for having her on his radio show. She didn't give a shit then, and probably don't give one now.

Carlos and Nova (44,985) by TR from USA
Uhh Carlos, did you say "99.9% of white people talk proper English"? Have you never been to the south? And let's please stop referring to "talking White", or inferring that non-whites can't or don't speak properly. It's racist. Knowing how to speak Standard English or proper English is determined by education, not race. With regards to Mariah's lyrics, I think it's quite clear that she's using slang and thugging up her lyrical grammar for relevance or because she thinks it's cute (sometimes it is, i.e. "gooder" - I mean we know not to take that seriously). She speaks properly, albeit oftentimes incoherently, in interviews. Pre-Butterfly, her lyrical grammar was adult contemporary (Hallmark). Post-Butterfly, she got more street/urban, so her lyrical grammar needed to reflect that, otherwise the songs would be called "Go Away From My Vicinity, Sir", "Honestly, Honestly", "I'm The Girl", "I'll Love You For A Long Time", "I'm Sure You Are Going to Know", and "You Have Me". Hahahaha.

ADAM (44,979) by Bill from the UK
That was a good point about Mariah getting a taste of her own medicine. I hate to say it, but Mariah knowingly used samples of tracks without giving credit, and the "lambs" need to recognise that. Emotions was clearly based on The Best Of My Love (by a group called The Emotions, what are the odds lambs? ). Everything from the backing track, theme, and vocal arrangements is obviously based on that tune. Settled out of court. Make It Happen also took its entire instrumentation from I Want To Thank You by Alicia Myers. It is exactly the same, except in a different key. Mariah sought clearance for the sample, didn't get it, used it anyway, and again settled out of court. And now these acts of thievery are apparently "inspirations"? Please. Wake up. By your way of thinking, maybe J. Lo was "inspired" when Tommy played her the original Loverboy and wanted to use the same sample. She got permission to use it from the writers just like Mariah did but beat her to it when it came to getting the song out. The YDKWTD cover looks odd.

MC-JLo (44,978) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Adam, I was just about to write the Mariah quotes you just posted. So yes that's what JLo was referring to. This debate (MC-JLo) lead me to YouTube where I found an audio tape where Jennifer called in to Nick Cannon's show and even there before Nick brought Mariah up, Jennifer went ahead and congratulated them on the twins, then Nick asked for advice which she gave. She also said there is no beef and all and that she is a big fan of Mariah. There are more interviews of her where she addresses Mariah in a positive way. I am not saying she is saying all these because she adores M. Even if she says it just for the sake of it, still makes her a better businessperson, whereas MC should really have done that. The contrast between their interviews makes it look like M is still in the past, while painting JLo in a positive light. This is showbusiness, image is everything. And the whole "JLo knew or didn't know about sabotaging Mariah" debate is pretty silly, like I said, even if she knew, why should she care? She didn't even know Mariah. Do you really expect her to put Mariah's career before hers when she never even met her? That's really silly.
