Mariah isn't the same, Mariah shouldn't do music for teens because she is nearly 44 years old. Her problem is that the beginning of her career was wrong because it's not what she wanted. I don't say that You're Mine is a flop but iTunes and charts say otherwise. Sorry but I'm realistic.

I think it would be pretty sweet if Mariah let the fans name the album. Not that I would expect her to give up that creativity but still would be pretty cool.

Some of my emoctions were off. I didn't meant to use this I meant to use and instead of using this I meant to use . Oh I also meant to add in my critique she should lay off on the "splashes" a bit. Carry on.

Critical moment (41,494)

The notion that MC needs or has to change everything about herself just to sell albums or be more "likeable" to the public annoys the hell out of me. She didn't even use the word "festive" that often for anyone to be annoyed by it , besides it's an actual respectable word. And I agree with clueey23 the word "dahling" doesn't bother me whatsoever. You guys actually think her not using those two words anymore will affect her career in anyway? If so that's petty as hell, and just sounds like a personal issue and not MC's issue. In the words of the late great Whitney Houston, I give a hardy "hell to the no" to the pixie cut and mom jeans recommendations. That won't help her sell albums either, it'll just make her look like Joan Rivers stunt double for no good reason at all. Mariah will always be a glamorous woman with long beautiful hair, you'll just have to deal "darlings". If I had to critique Mariah I would say she should hire a new stylish to take her look to another level, not cut all the gorgeous hair off, but just change the color or style it differently, maybe rock the designer pants and blouse looks from time to time (still keeping it very glamorous and feminine), make great music, give great live performances, and just have a more serious balance to her interviews and she'd be just fine. Beening a fake robotic Stepford wife would only make her a bore. Besides that I say eff the world and do you Mimi. Can we say nothing left to prove?

Performance (41,491)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Ok so now it's almost a week and I think it's about time Mariah starts performing. Go on Fallon, Kimmel, Ellen, heck she should go to neighbor's roof with a loudspeaker and sing it until everyone is hypnotized by the song and shoots it to #1. Also I am excited about the upcoming BET performance. I can't wait to see how she performed in "that dress".

I agree, it's strange that Mariah hasn't started performing the song yet. In her defence, the song has only been out less than a week, so there is time, and she may have some planned. She's doing a lot of radio interviews, which is good. I do think that she should have tried to perform on Kimmel, as opposed to just that skit. Of all the people who were in that skit, she was the one with something new to promote. She really should have maximised that opportunity. When WBT came out, I remember she performed on literally every format available. It was after the performance in a teal/blue dress, on Leno I think, that the song really started to gain some traction. I think Mariah has worked hard thus far, but she needs to up her game and focus on some more maintream promo.

Similarity of You're Mine (41,488)
by Eternal from Italy
| |
|
|
You're Mine actually sounds a lot like Underneath The Stars and H.A.T.E.U. combined. It's not about the song structure or instruments used, it's the dreamy feeling of these songs. Even the vocals and lyrics are kinda similar. UTS talks about the thrills of first love ("one summer night we ran away for a while, and imagined I was yours and you were mine"), YME talks about memories of love through the seasons ("summer days and summer nights when I felt you in my arms"). Play UTS followed by YME (solo version) and HU preferably with a crossfade and I hope you'll get what I mean.

Did you just say once you stop taking what MC does or say seriously, you will enjoy her again? With all due respect, I don't think that is how you are going to get people to listen or buy your music. I don't think this is how you earn the respect of your peers. Proudly informing the public that you had your lighting director work the room is not down to earth. Please tell me rambling is not a form of communication style that is acceptable in the real world. Would you ramble in a job interview?

How about actually performing the music to promote it? (41,486)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
I don't understand why Mariah isn't performing You're Mine on her TV appearances. Talking about a song and acting aloof during interviews is not the type of publicity this song needs. This song needs to be heard (preferably a number of times) in order to be enjoyed. In all honesty, I used to look forward to Mariah being interviewed as she always gave us funny moments like when she would visit Rosie O'Donnell. With the way she has presented herself so far this era, I would rather her just turn up, sing and go home. Remember when it was all about the music as opposed to "Does my hair look good over my shoulder, no sitting on my shoulder, no I'll flip it behind. No good, sitting on the shoulder, over the shoulder, let me flip it again." Just leave your bloody hair alone and sing the damn song. You'd think she was promoting a L'Oreal product as opposed to a song.

Thoughts (41,485)
by clueey23 from USA

Has anyone ever watched JD, MC and Stephan Hill in the studio during the recording of "E=MC2"? That is the real MC. When she talks about pink road cases. It's not that MC doesn't know how to act, it's that people take everything so serious. It's just not that serious, the word "dahling" isn't a bad word. It's just a nod to old Hollywood and glamour. And once you stop taking everything she says or does so serious, you'll begin to enjoy MC again. I personally think MC is more down to earth than a lot of other entertainers. I've enjoyed the interviews thus far. And I haven't cringed once or thought twice because she seems more real and honest and down to earth than ever before. It's refreshing. I'd rather have her ramble and me learn and hear something I haven't before, than hear the same cookie cutter questions and answers.

Why does everyone keep saying You're Mine (Eternal) is like what she did during Daydream? I don't hear it. Could someone please tell me a song from Daydream that's similar to this one. I've been listening to everything from that era and can't see the similarities.

Marilyn Monroe image (41,481)
by Darryle from USA
| |
|
|
I've never really thought of the dahling and diva Mariah as a Marilyn Monroe image. I can see it now though because she idolizes her. I myself have always thought of it as Mariah vs. Mimi. Mimi was the dahling and splashes funner type of Mariah and Mariah was the more serious down to earth one.

I like Journey but the first thing to pop into my mind was Full Circle. I like that because she has come full circle in her career. She's had artist of the decade and millennium. WBT is #11 on biggest hits of all time. longest run on Billboard with OSD and so much more. Also she's sorta come full circle in life as well; she has been married and has kids so she's settled down for the most part.

I agree with you on the he's not as hood as he thinks he is. I mean he wears a charm bracelet. What person that is "hood" wears that? I do disagree on dumping him though. I think she should just lower him on the food chain. He shouldn't be her manager because he's to comfortable with her. She needs someone that will push her out her comfort zone and tell her no means no.

Live performance (41,478)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

Mariah needs to do as many live performances for this song. The reason why WBT topped the Billboard Hot 100 Singles for 14 weeks was because Mariah diligently performed that song on almost every major tv program in the US back in the day. It's a wasted opportunity to see Mariah made a small cameo at the Tonight Show with Jimmy without performing her latest single. She could even perform the single at MTV First with Sway and at the Bet 106&Park. The public (non-fans) and her old time fans need to be mesmerized (again) by her god given voice. I wonder whether Mariah still trains her voice or even do vocal warm up daily.

I've actually thought about it and I think a fan for a manager would be a great idea. Fans know what they want to hear from Mariah and what will sell. I think Jermaine is too comfortable with Mariah and won't tell her what she needs to hear like the word "no". No to the diva attitude and whisper and so many other things.
