Single or song (39,902) by nikki from usa
Mariah was excited to release this, but there was never mention of a music video or talk about releasing this to radio. Over a week ago, Nick said she was all about releasing this song, but then she might have something else to release. Didn't MC say JD won because she wanted to release this around Valentines? Perhaps this was solely for the fans. I don't know how this could "flop" when it wasn't released to radio to begin with. It would have to be rejected to flop, instead her Facebook release got it to #1 in 8 countries.

Where is the promo? The single is a flop. There's no info about a video. What's happening?

Four consecutive underperforming singles (39,899) by jaker20 from US
(1) Triumphant - I think this is an uninspired song, slightly corny lyrics, something I see her doing 20 years ago.
(2) Almost Home - A great song, great vocals that received no proper promo nor performance. I'm still hoping for an Academy nomination. Maybe then we'll get a proper performance.
(3) #Beatiful - One of the best pop songs of the year, one of the best MC's ever made. But released during heat of bad publicity. She didn't get a proper live performance. Sitting on a stage is not a proper performance. Idol was a wasted opportunity. She should have sang this then instead of a medley of oldies.
(4) TAOLG - I don't really know what to say about this song. It's a convoluted mess. Another one of those "I'm over you" love songs. MC needs to work with new creative minds.

Personal Mariah playlist (39,898) by Jeffrey Pueblos from USA
I've decided to make a new playlist of just her "deep cuts" or maybe some of her obscure songs that are not considered #1 but would be any Mariah fan favorite. Can anyone help me out with what songs to put on these playlist? I want it to have an ongoing theme of romantic ballads and groove-oriented songs that are not heavily dominated with featured rap artists. So far, the songs I've had on my list are:
1.) Betcha Gon' Know (The Prologue)
2.) O.O.C.
3.) #Beautiful
4.) Babydoll
5.) Lullaby
6.) Mine Again
I want this to be a 17 or 18 track CD compilation to play in my car. So please help. Anyone's input is appreciated and an explanation as to why. I like hearing from other Mariah fans' and their choices. Thanks.

Confusion about TAOLG (39,897) by Matthew from USA
There seems to be some confusion about TAOLG. I don't think this is a single. What I mean is that they never sent the song to radio. At least, I don't think they did. She just released it on Facebook for the fans. I just bring this up because now there are people saying that she flopped and that her record label is doing nothing to support the single. But it's not a commercial single as far as I can tell. Was never meant to be.

I agree Special K (39,896) by Brad Catoe from United States
So TAOLG is not my favorite either, but I still like it. It's great that we still get music from Mariah that's actually good. Also I don't think any of these last songs sounded "unfinished". I think a lot of us take Mariah's talents for granted. It must be incredibly difficult to go into the studio, write a song from the heart, and it actually sound good. If you think about it, most of us are in love with 95% of Mimi's catalogue. Have you heard the other shit most people put out? It's a blessing that we have her music in out lives to inspire us. Also, she said this was for the fans. I think she knew it wasn't a radio friendly track. Give the girl a break.

Billy (39,895) by 123 from USA
I can see you feeling that TAOLG is better than I Stay In Love or Angels Cry, but the main difference between those two songs and TAOLG is that they sound complete/finished where TAOLG sounds like a demo. If you notice, the three singles that Mariah has released in relation to this album all sound unfinished. Triumphant only had a hook and a bridge, Beautiful (the best of the bunch IMO) had no bridge and ends abruptly, and TAOLG has lyrics that I like to call "fillers" to occupy space until you think of something better with no real chorus. To me, it sounds like she is still working on the song. I thought she was going to pull a Miguel like he did with Adorn and release a full version of Beautiful (including a bridge), but it never happened. If finished/re-worked, it has the chance of standing next to When Christmas Comes or Christmas Time Is In The Air Again. I believe she released it to give fans something to listen to until a finished product is ready. Key word, finished. I believe she may eye the new year for an actual single to capitalize on Valentine's day. This album will have a jazz/soul throwback sound and I for once can wait to hear it when it is actually done. You can't rush greatness.

TAOLG (39,894) by Special K from USA
I can't help but laugh when I read comments like, "It's a great song but it's not a hit." At this stage in Mariah's career I'll take a great song anyday over a so-called cookie cutter hit by today's standards.

E=MC2 (39,893) by Tony from Ireland
I really think all that songs ("I stay in love", "Angels cry", "Bye bye") were too similar to others like "One sweet day" or WBT. I think from the E=MC2, I was exited about songs like [...]. Those song were unique and very fresh, I was feeling the same about "When Christmas comes" and "One child". And that's exactly what I do feel now with TAOLG. Nobody was expecting anything like that, not even us fans. Of course I do love all Mariah songs and collaborations (except [...]), but this new record for me is flawless. And I'm not being a crazy fan. But I guess that's why I do love her, because for me she is a mastermind.

Re: RJJ12 (39,892) by Billy from Greece
Although tastes vary, "The Art of Letting Go" is for me miles better than some of the songs you mentioned. "I Stay In Love" is to my eyes the most generic Mariah single as of yet, from a structural point of view as well as in terms of musicianship, where "TAOLG" really shines. Similarly, "Angels Cry", though very listenable/catchy and pretty as a whole, is "too" radio friendly, if I can say that. Finally, what may seem as a disadvantage to you, namely, the "squeezing of too many words into a line" that you mention, is for me the distinct aspect of the song, since it allows Mariah to almost scat and leads to a more complex style of delivery, which only showcases Mariah's ability for performances of high sophistication, albeit at the expense of radio-friendliness as some of you mention (although I don't necessarily agree with that either). Some lyrics about "kitchen windows" and deleting contacts, I'll admit, could have been revised, but they don't take away from what is a truly great track overall.

Impromptu performance (39,891) by 123 from USA
This is what I'm talking about! She needs to do this more often. All live, great vocals with an intimate setting of fans that take her for who she is. She needs to show the new generation who she is. Everyone who is a casual fan that watched the video has been praising her. The gospel runs during 30-40 seconds were so smooth. The impromptu lyrics shows she can do anything on the spot. I loved how when she was singing in full voice at 3:30 and almost went flat on the thirrd "letting go" and saved it by effortlessly switching to her whistle register. I hope she does more of these performances to promote this album and the rawness of the ballads she is working on. Just her, the piano, and her voice. Old school, just like they did when they promoted the Mariah Carey album. No flashy lights, no dancers or big performance numbers, no wind machines. You strip that away and Mariah is one of the few that can have you holding on to every note with just a piano accompanying her. None of today's pop artists can do that. She needs to capitalize on that fact and do these types of performances. They want to call you a diva, then give them diva in the true sense of the word.

TAOLG / interviews (39,890) by 123 from USA
I'm glad this is not released to radio as I do not yet believe it is a true single. I believe Mariah's team is testing the waters and slowly introducing her back into the scene. I like the throwback style and the fact that she is finally singing a complete song in full voice (no whispers in sight) with minimal layering, but the lyrics are lackluster and seemed rushed, squeezing too many words into a line where she has to rush through it. No chorus. I don't get how people on here are saying this is her best song in a decade. Did we forget MC2, songs like When Christmas Comes, Christmas Is In The Air Again, how about Angels Cry, Languishing (which moved me with its lyrics!), I Stay In Love? These are all great ballads that are signature MC that are superior to this song as a whole. My explanation to her seeming off in her interviews? She aint got no sleep. She has been working hard around the clock trying to get the album done. No need to worry. I get loopy like that when I haven't slept in days.

#Beautiful / TAOLG / new letter (39,889) by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
#Beautiful was Mariah's biggest hit for a number of years. To say it wasn't is just plain foolish. TAOLG is probably not going to be a hit, but I don't think it's meant to be. I think it's meant to set the tone for this new album. At least I hope it is. I'd take TAOLG over Triumphant any day lol. The new letter from Mariah was lovely. Very sweet. That's more like it lol.

Mariah's at her best when she's "hanging out" (39,888) by nikki from usa
Listening to her talk about writing some of her hits (WBT, I Know What You Want, AIWFCIY, Fantasy, etc.) the one thing they all have in common is she was having fun. She wasn't trying to do anything. Reliving childhood fun with Fantasy, she was goofing off with Busta for "I Know" and made him sing, Christmas was on a whim. This turns into some of her biggest and most memorable hits. It translates over into her videos too. I was watching the video for Loving You Long Time and it reminded me of Always Be My Baby. She sings to the camera, but at the same time she acts like she's narrating. She'll dance a little, look off to the side, almost as if she's daydreaming. It appears like she's hanging out with that laid back vibe and just having fun. In both she's dancing with a group of people at camp or a house party. This is what makes them interesting to watch. The other video hits are when she actually re-enacts a story like the Bondgirl for Honey or storyline of Heartbreaker. If she hangs out or becomes enveloped in playing a part she shines. When she doesn't try and just has fun is when she's at her finest.

Imperfect (39,887) by Gilbert from USA
I've been listening to it alot lately and I can't believe how much I've been into it. It's a really beautiful song, not only for Mariah but for anyone who has been told something ugly by someone else. I wish that was a single or at least included in her album. I think I read somewhere that the reason it didn't release was because of the auto-tune. I really don't notice it unless I'm not singing alot. Either way, with auto-tune or not it's a great song. Okay my rant is over, and I'm really enjoying TAOLG as well. I didn't even listen to the clip from this whole Facebook thing, I just signed in iTunes and downloaded it.

Universal/Island (39,886) by Tony from Ireland
I do agree that #Beautiful was a hit, and even the video was a success, although I did like more the "dirty" version of it. And let's be honest, all the promotion was made by Mariah herself. Not a sign of live from her record company. Not even a single poster or a cover at any magazine. So, looking at this, of course it was a hit and a well deserved one. Now with TAOLG, it seems the same for me. No sign of live of Universal at all. And they have gold in their hands. But that will be something we will never understand, unless Mariah will speak out about it. Somebody remember that incredible song called 100% that was never promoted and was way better than any single taken from MOAIA? She is still somebody that other artist are looking up to. And that means respect. I'm just hoping her record label will open their eyes. Love and peace.

Chase (39,885) by R&B Junkie from Poland
Yes! The only thing that matters, or if it don't for you then it should, is music! I'm not obsessed with all that glittering numer 1's stuff. I'm proud she has done so good on the charts, but now I really don't care. Top 40 is enough, I don't need my idol to be chart-topping anymore since having number 1 these days does not mean the single has good quality. See, it's all about making money. The thing that I need from music is to bring me some extra emotions to my life. That's how #Beautiful works, and so does TAOLG. "Through the Rain" wasn't that succesful, but I love it so much. And there are many other Mariah's singles that touched my soul, and didn't become hits. Does it mean I can't enjoy that music?

What is a hit? (39,883) by B from USA
#Beautiful peaked at No. 2 on the R&B Songs chart and she's considered an R&B artist, so how is that a flop? I think the R&B chart would be more important than the pop charts to MC at this stage in her career. Maybe holding the record and topping The Beatles is more important. I can't lie, I'd love for her to do so. She only needs 3 more!

Billboard (39,882) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Why don't we all listen to the song together, and by the time the Billboard Hot 100 is out on Thursday, TAOLG is charted without a proper release. That would be a proper statement.

The Art of Letting Go (39,881) by Chase from USA
Aside from a few awkward lyrics, this is a gorgeous ballad and superb return to form for Mariah. The vocals are powerful, warm, and emotional. The blend of gospel and classic R&B, enhanced with the crackles and pops of an old record, feels like home to me. Whether this is a hit or not, it's got a permanent spot on my iPod. Isn't good music all that really matters, anyway?

Letting Go mini performance. (39,880) by Lee from UK
Mariah's impromtu performance was hilarious. "And that was my bad side as well, oh hell. And I see you filming me, what the ..." I hope her new album contains these kinds of vocals. I hope when Mariah performs Letting Go live that it is this simple with a piano and just her singing and riffing. It is so beautiful. I could listen to it all day long.

Impromptu performance (39,879) by Jimbo from UK
I was really touched by Mariah's impromptu performance. I love hearing her sing when she's completely relaxed. The adlib for the "no longer live in your dominion" part of TAOLG was exquisitely beautiful, and I noticed that there was a very visceral connection with the audience. It reminded me of Nina Simone's live performances, and her ability to create an emotional nexus between herself and the audience. Mariah if you, or one of your team, is reading this, thank you very much!

TAOLG, Jimmy Fallon suprise (39,878) by Joe from United Kingdom
I have to admit when i first heard TAOLG, I was quite dissapointed, maybe because I was expecting something else. I felt that something was missing, like more of a beat in the verses just to pick up the tempo, because by the time the song picked up towards the end, it was pretty much over. I also felt like the lyrics could of been better, but I thought I'd give it a week and wait to see if it grew on me and it actually has the more I've listened to it. I really like it now, it's not a song that I'll have on repeat, but I still like it. Now onto something that I have repeated to many times to mention. I enjoyed the Jimmy Fallon suprise and then to top it off with that impromptu performance, all I can say is wow, even I was suprised but how good she sounded. It's not like I doubted her because weirdly in recent times I've actually started to prefer her improvisational moments like in Australia, but this just took it to another level for me. Even the haters are finding it real hard to dig deep to find something negative to say. It's about time.
