MC30 E=MC2 (97,302) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I wonder why BB was completely left off the MC30 celebrations. I was thinking they'll include the Akon remix. Also "Side Effects" was left off, and I was hoping for the Busta remix. I know SE wasn't a single but neither was "You're Girl" and "I Only Wanted" but those received EPs. For some reason, or actually because of the music used in the M perfume ad, I always see M flapping around in the water when I hear the song. Also, bad singles choices side, didn't she give up on the album early because she went through that traumatic miscarriage at that time? That's what I remember hearing or reading recently when she spoke about her miscarriage. Can't remember how that came up now a decade later. And my vote goes to I'm That Chick of course. E=MC2 is one album that released not the best singles. Migrate could have been next or Cruise Control, two outstanding songs that sounds different from her past music but still relevant and appealing. For The Record is one record I always regret for not being released as a single, which could have been her third single. Together with Migrate or Cruise Control, it could be her 20th No.1 song! Migrate was performed on Saturday Night Live and BET's relativity special. Bye Bye only on American Idol and Oprah. Now that I think of it E=MC2 had mega promo. It's weird that ITC wasn't even released as a single at all because E=MC2 was originally named "That Chick" with ITC being the first single. Don't know what LA Reid was thinking. "For The Record" could also have been a good closing single. I always had this vision of her doing the FTR music video and in the part where she references her old songs (like ABMB, My All, UTS, WBT, CLT and Honey) she could've paid homage to her iconic videos. That song is way ahead of the trends and was catchy and sexy. I feel like E=MC2 is the album which shows Mariah's songwriting range and and it's sad that it didn't get the attention it deserved. I mean it was a hit but it could have been massive especially riding off the TEOM wave. What I mean by songwriting range is basically she had everything in this album - the ballads, the uptempos, the Jamaican flavor for CC, the club songs, and everything in between. So people who only think Mariah writes love ballads and sad songs would've gotten to see that's not all she is capable of. Also Mariah was looking amazing, all eyes were on her for her transformation. It was just set for success and then they release BB as the second single. Don't get me wrong, I think BB is beautiful but it was definitely not the right second single. (Thursday 4 February 2021; 21:02)

I usually like "Migrate" but I just quickly sang the chorus of both in my head and I would have to agree ITC is more catchy and would've probably gotten the attention of the young audience. Not that "Migrate" wouldn't do the same but ITC just has a catchier feel to it. E=MC2 had so much potential. The single choices just messed it up. (Thursday 4 February 2021; 19:07)

There are many sites that state that artists whose ventures don't make a lot of money are required to pay back the advance or have them recouped out of royalties or future earnings. Music Labels are not charitable enterprises and (admittedly, at a guess) I shouldn't think they give two shiny shits if they have a legacy artist on their books or not. I shouldn't think it a reasonable use of time or money if they are not getting adequate return for it. If Mariah still had a lot of power I don't think she would be dictated to by a record label about "grats" and so on. However, this is all moot if Mariah writes an album that people want to buy. "Pray" is an archaic and, perhaps, arcane word for a polite request. It's a common mistake so don't feel too bad that you, somewhat ironically, used it to patronise. "The same evidence Allison provides for ritual abuse? There is none." That's probably a strawman argument. In any case, Allison's own claims are not in question here; Mariah's are. "Mariah didn't make accusations - she described the trauma she endured and what it did to her." I understand what you are trying to say but would offer that you may not be clear in your thinking. Mariah has published and claimed on television that Allison committed criminal acts and offences against her person. Without evidence substantiating the claims, I think Allison has reasonable claim against Mariah for libel and slander. It's been a (*cough*) while since I read Law so perhaps there is someone more qualified an authority now on here to speak on the subject. However, I believe my statements to be correct. "Actual trauma victims who contain what happened to them get a sense of relief from talking about it. It's a part of standing up for yourself and not hiding the truth." I appreciate it's a difficult issue. On the one hand, there are people who have been on the receiving end of many different types of abuse and the truths of the events don't feel natural to hide. On the other hand, to make allegations that damages someone's reputation is quite serious and such allegations should really have evidence to support them, and not just a "lived experience" claim, lest innocent people have their good characters tarnished by vindictive people without recompense. "Allison had no problem attacking Mariah for 20 years making money from wild claims without proof. In fact, she's still doing it now with this lawsuit. Why shouldn't Mariah get a say? Different rules for her?" Countersuit. "Allison doesn't have a case. She's less than credible with all her issues and history." Then it becomes a total PR disaster if it already isn't one. "This is a memoir and not a lawsuit. No proof is needed to tell others your experiences." As above. I am not saying who is right and wrong and your claim that you are the authority on who is and who isn't is spurious. On the balance of probabilities, and all things being equal, I would ignore both of them. But things are not equal. Mariah has used her position of wealth and power to profit well from the claims that someone who is totally skint and downtrodden committed unlawful acts. I honestly think this book was a bit of a silly venture. But, Mariah - being quite a smart cookie - must have foreseen the fallout and calculated that she stood more to gain from the publication than she had to lose. If so then good for her and so be it. Myself, I fail to see what good this all did. Very few people were ever really listening to anything Allison was saying about Mariah, anyway. Now they'll be listening a lot. We all have our own present and historical shit. Maybe it's just me, or perhaps it's a very stereotypically British thing, but it's neither wise nor dignified to "air your dirty linen in public", so to speak. As a legacy artist, Mariah would be low priority and her budget would be small. The label keeps everything Mariah would make until the budget is paid back. Hits used to mean money. They don't anymore. Nobody buys anymore. Mariah attaches her music to other projects to make money. Her tours are under contract with Live Nation who gives her a fee for touring that dwarfs her recording contract. You're also wrong about Triumphant. It was listed as a morsel for the fans after Mariah had to push back her album from signing on to do AI. It was listed as such months before release. It wasn't supposed to go to radio either. Quite the opposite happened. Everyone wanted the song. Hip hop stations demanded it, half time wanted it. Due to demand she made a music video and BET made it #1 for a month. We haven't seen a song with this kind of reaction from the public since "I'll Be There". The remixes were fire, it could've easily been a hit. In fact, if she'd release one of the remixes as the song to FIFA it probably would be. She also released GTFO while stressing from the get go that it wasn't a single and won't be released to radio. I'm sure chart success would be nice, but I don't think Mariah's holding her breath. She had a Christmas song featuring Ariana yet nobody could even find it to stream that thing to save their life.
