Flowers (93,410)
by Randy from USA
| |
|

So I want to follow up on my last post. I posted 5 great performances of MC on Facebook. Collectively they got three likes maybe one comment. I was a fan of Michael Jackson but made jokes about his boy obsession, his strange looks and then he was gone. I was a fan of Whitney Houston and made crack jokes and then she was gone. Prince. Gone. Luther. Gone. Natalie. Gone. Aaliyah. Gone. Left Eye. Gone. My point? MC is batshit crazy, the voice has deteriorated, her latest music has disappointed, and her weight is up and down. I don't care about any of that. I want the world to give MC her flowers, for all of the invaluable music she has given us to get through this complicated life, now while we still have the chance.

Great song. In fact I think the entire Emotions LP is pretty much flawless. It has some of her most beautiful ballads coupled with some of her most high energy dance tracks. The 70s disco meets 60s soul concoction was just sublime. A beautiful album.

Happy anniversary, Mariah. 50 looks good on you.
Hope everyone's doing fine. We send love, support and prayers to all our frontliners, medical or not - everyone who is putting their lives on the line to provide basic, indispensable services. You are our heroes.
It is difficult to stay optimistic in a time where thousands are getting infected and dying on a daily basis. While this pandemic may have highlighted the disparity between those who have too much, those who have just enough and those that are lucky to have anything at all, it has also brought out some of the best of humanity. I have never seen a stronger outpouring of love and support from so many people, and it's heartwarming to see the voluntary efforts and initiatives from everyone, some of them even coming from those who you wouldn't peg to be the giving/caring type.
When this passes, for all of our invaluable losses, it would be ideal to gain more from this than just lower crime rates and pollution levels globally. It's one hell of a wake-up call, so it would be a huge shame and upset to let it go to waste. Here's hoping that we would have learned to be more compassionate with each other and be more appreciative of the little things in life that we usually overlook - especially personal interaction. We owe these internal changes to those we were blessed enough to outlive. Until then, though, the fight continues.
Stay safe, healthy and happy, y'all.

So Cold (93,406)

In honor of that big 5-0 for MC I'm revisiting songs again. Right now I'm stuck on So Cold for some reason. I normally only listen to the intro of the song then I turn it off. After playing the whole song 3 times back to back it's a pretty decent song. I didn't hate the song, I just never played it alot throughout the years.

Happy silver anniversary, MC (93,405)

I have been posting my favorite live performances on Facebook all day. No one has liked or commented #sadface. Words cannot express what her music means to me. Right To Dream gave me a distant glimmer of hope in the midst of severe alcoholism and depression. More recently Through The Rain has helped me navigate through a confusing sobriety and I've held tighter to my faith. As a teenager, the only out homo in a large Black hypermasculine family, Outside described exactly how I felt. I could list probably a dozen more specific instances but I've probably already overshared. I recently turned 40 and am in the process of changing cities and even though I don't play them because they are on my phone, I will pack my 27 Mariah Carey CDs, albums and singles in a box marked fragile. Music Box. Oh I'm so [censored] corny.

Hi all. I wrote this piece about my longtime fandom and rank what I think our her 50 best songs. I know everyone will disagree with my ranks, but that's part of the fun. I thought some of the readers on here might like to check it out. Enjoy your celebrations, lambily.

Agreed, Hero is a song about self-identifying, loving yourself and boldly being true to who you are, which is a theme that has nothing to do with what is going on at the moment.
I think Anytime You Need A Friend is her song that may more closely follow the theme of the time. "Keep the faith" - "even though you're miles away", and so on (maybe change "take my hand, take me into your heart" to "wash your hands, for twenty seconds" lol). It doesn't have to be the full blown affair but something more subdued, acoustic so that its beautiful and sombre and not bombastic and sketchy.
It will be interesting to see what she comes up with as she is isolating and I assume she has no backup singers with her. Mariah alone singing a song for the world is just anathema to her career now.

Perhaps you're right. A bit miserable, even by my standards. Happy birthday, Mariah. Perhaps it's just thinking of Mariah as a 50 year old. She was 23 when I first fell in love with her. I hope everyone is staying safe and staying positive.

Andrew, I just have to say this. The only comments I ever see from you are snarky and negative. I mean, it is what it is, if that's how you feel. But why post here? It makes me not even want to look at this board, because there's enough negative stuff going on in the world. Like, I do not understand the point of even visiting here when you're this critical of Mariah, pretty much to the point of seeming to not like her at all. Maybe that isn't the case but it's how you come across IMO.

Mariah's benefit contribution (93,391)
by Nikki from usa

I hope she doesn't sing Hero. Enough already. This is a benefit concert for people with cabin fever stuck at home. They don't need inspiration, they need a break to cut loose. Since all of you have no faith in her ability to sing anyway, she do better to sing uptempo songs or remixes that don't require over the top vocal acrobatics. I just hope she makes it fun or creates a new song.

Agreed. Hero is the wisest and best choice. It's the right message the world needs to hear right now. Through the Rain is a nice song with a great message. But does the general public, the world want to hear that song? Probably not. Plus, Hero's melody allows Mariah to lip certain parts while looking like she's singing live. It's a great song to salute the real heroes on the front lines. Cheers.

"Through The Rain" would be ideal for the occasion but it is an extremely difficult song to sing live. When she sang it on Oprah, back in 2002, she relied heavily on her backup singers and lipped most of what she was supposed to be singing. At the AMAs, back in 2003, once again she relied heavily on her backup singers, she also lipped most of it. I don't think it would be a good idea for her to even try that, considering the quality of her singing on "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" challenge. I think "Hero" would be perfect. With a few "heys" and "with you, and you, and yous" here and there she can captivate the audience.

I think she will most likely sing Hero, because it's a well-known song that most people know and can relate to at this time.
