Re: Oh Santa late late (91,750) (91,782) by Musti from UK
That was awesome. It might be the best live version of Oh Santa. I know this song will never reach AIWFCIY status but I hope it starts getting a bigger push now that Project AIWFCIY is complete.

That was brilliant.

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,779) (91,780) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Rihanna indeed has improved a lot over the years. I don't agree that her tone is necessarily "pleasant", because I clearly remember many people includung critics comparing her vocals to that of a bleating goat. But she really has come a long way from where she started.

Rihanna's phenomenal success is a confluence of many factors: she worked with the right people, she is very charismatic, she had Mariah's 90s work ethic, she knew which artists to collaborate with and piggyback for the best chance of making a hit, she is backed by a great promotional machine, and most of all, she has a tone that, just like Britney's, is not the best, but stands out bigtime.

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,773) (91,779) by We are Lambily from USA
Rihanna is not a vocalist and that's not what gave her success. She makes catchy music, her tone is one of the most pleasant to listen to. She has grown so much as a singer. There is a reason why she has 14 #1s ,the public loves her, she has her fanbase. I need a bad girl anthem from her and Mariah.

Let's also go after Taylor swift or Selena Gomes if we [sic] talking about people who can't sing. The thing is when you [sic] a Mariah Stan nobody can sing in our eyes lol.

This sounds so good to me. I wish it was a real remix.

Must people really squabble here at this time when we should just be celebrating this new milestone in Mariah's storied career?

Re: Is it wrong of me? (91,764) (91,776) by SM from Citizen of the World
Yea it is wrong because none of those songs listed were actually written by the artist. "AIWFCIY" was written by M, so if that is the song they think of her by so be it. She wrote it, and it doesn't matter if it's a Christmas song, it brings happiness to whoever listens to it, and right now this world loves it. Happy times lambily.

Is it wrong of me? (91,774) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
No you are entitled to your opinion. However Mariah's song has been a staple for different generations and eras which makes it timeless. Where's with both Celine and Whitney their songs define a time of the power ballad. Also Whitney's is a remake of a Dolly Parton Country song. Celine's is an original song that was created for her. Mariah has the distinctive honor of her signature song being a song that she created and not everyone can say that.

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,771) (91,773) by Aliya from Canada
Hi I'm new here. I just wanted to say that I don't think Rihanna is a good vocalist. She is very average. And I think her "bad gal" image has propelled her, as well as working with other artists.

I think Celine Dion and Whitney Houston are the only vocalists that even come close to Mariah. But Mariah is #1.

Cry me a river Andrew, I have never in my life met someone who hates a person so much yet acts like their fan. Everyday you continue to amaze me, always finding a way to try to bring Mariah down. Even if you don't agree with this whole 2020, why fight so hard trying to make a wrong point. I can't wait for school to start again so I can focus on that instead.

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,762) (91,771) by We are Lambily from USA
Alicia Keys is amazing and we love her. Nobody called Rihanna a vocalist. I rather have a tone people like than being a great vocalist in today's industry.

Jennifer Hudson would have Adele type of success if that matters. The industry has changed. I honestly can't think of one great singer with huge success. With great I mean someone to put next to Aretha, Whitney or Mariah. Today's "great" singers with success make me cringe.

Thank you. I was looking at this post on Instagram today and 1994 was missing a number one hit, and I was like "Didn't she have a number one each year in the 90's?"

Re: Is it wrong of me? (91,764) (91,769) by TJ from Norway
As the radio host on "klemFM" (I think) said last week: "Hero" is the best/most beautiful ballad from the 90's.

Re: Is it wrong of me? (91,764) (91,768) by Tijl from Belgium
No not really. This is a timeless classic where the others are very much a reflection a their era. No need to compare them.

I understand what you mean. I always thought that "Hero" is Mariah's signature song. But now AIWFCIY seems to replace it.

Re: Billboard week of 12.28 (91,754) (91,765) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Perhaps you are correct. Although it neither displeases me nor pleases me. So no need to apologise. I do not think it makes any sense. But if she is Number 1 *in* 2020 but didn't *achieve* that in 2020 and that is what people are going for then so be it.

I think the clarification has been made. I believed you had to achieve the Number 1 sales in said year. But if you just carry the title over regardless of sales you are still *technically* number 1? So be it. Just feels a bit like a... construction? Prefer Mariah to record a new Summer smash and take that to Number 1. Wait and see.

Is it wrong of me? (91,764) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway
Hey guys, is it wrong of me to feel a bit down about "All I Want for Christmas is You" being Mariah's magnum opus? Whitney has "I Will Always Love You", Celine has "My Heart Will Go On", Britney has "...Baby, One More Time", Rihanna has "Umbrella", Toni Braxton has "Unbreak My Heart".

Is it wrong of me to feel a bit sad that a Christmas song is what Mariah is being remembered for when she has so many great songs?

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,756) (91,762) by MusicfanJ from Germany
That is your taste and that's fine. But for my taste Rihanna is not a good singer. Just average. She's pretty and good at entertaining but I don't see her as a real artist (no matter how many number ones she has). I think Alicia Keys is was more talented for exampale.

Re: Billboard week of 12.28 (91,754) (91,761) by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
I think the same applies to Hero, or else she would not have had a #1 in 1994 and thusly not have a #1 in each year of the 90's which is often touted as well.

Article: Mariah Carey reveals sneak peek at new music video (91,760) by AgentM from UK
She's definitely not tying with Elvis Prestley. She's above him. Typical Daily Mail and their inaccurate journalism.

Re: Billboard week of 12.28 (91,752) (91,759) by Horacio from United States
Andrew, it’s not about agreeing or not. Billboard stated that if the song is #1 for 3 weeks, that third week counts as the first #1 of 2020.

So again, for Billboard, if the song stays at #1 for 3 weeks, it will have been a #1 for both 2019 and 2020.

Re: Mariah (19 No 1's) and Rihanna (14 No 1's) (91,746) (91,758) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Interesting, but I am doubtful that Rihanna still has that same clout she had with the public in the past with today's Ariana-Billie-Lizzo-orientated generation of new listeners.
