Re: Caution tour sold out in Chicago (88,513) (88,562)

I love love loved the show. I agree with Chicago Lamb that Mariah was on fire. It always surprises me how good she sounds in concert in comparison to tv and YouTube clips, maybe it's because the band and backgrounds are mixed in or something but irregardless of why, it makes for a great concert experience. I honestly feel like there was minimal lipping, those few specific lines like then a hero comes along, etc. I thought it was well paced and even Dem Babies and Bianca didn't overstay their welcome, so those seemed to both be but moments. By updating the set list and giving fan favorites instead of the usual it added much needed variety. YDKWTD was a treat, AYNAF gave me instant chills, and I honestly felt the vindication during the Glitter songs. Hearing those songs live for the first time in itself was worth going to the show. It was mentioned she did a good amount of dance remixes during the second part and that was pretty cool, especially the random CTTA mix with the harmonica. However the most pleasant surprise to me was when she did the Mr. Dupri mix of ABMB during the second verse. That's my fave remix ever. As far as Caution, playing a good amount added a freshness to her shows I hadn't felt in a long time. My sister even asked before the show when did Mimi became hip again, elaborating she felt that way because of the sold out show and the new music, We agreed it was the snakes in the grass ill advising her to do reality shows and really I don't need to say much more about that slop and how marketing and spinning works. GTFO was my fave of the bunch, very cool mix of it I would love to have. With You is so interesting to me because it went from sounding so damn boring to being such a grower for me over time as well as on a couple radio formats right, and I feel like it's on its way to becoming a fan favorite and classic Mariah song. What differed for me than a couple other lambs was noticing much of the crowd knew the Caution songs and was singing along, so at least from where I was standing they seemed to be received very well. The screens behind the whole stage were very cool as well and added a lot to the whole show, and the cartoon Mariahs during Heartbreaker were super cute. One thing that again irked me was how she cuts out the second verse and chorus of some songs. Sometimes those are the best parts so it's disappointing. All in all I wish I could go again, sorry for the essay but I enjoyed it that much, and I agree if this was released on BluRay I would buy it in a heartbeat. Definitely worthy of that treatment. Oh it was exciting to see Dreamlover back in action.

I agree with everything you say. I have just this to say regarding Mariah and Ariana Grande. They should be saying that Ariana wants to sound like Mariah. The comparison should be that way because Mariah was around long before Ariana.
Also, Mariah is highly disrespected. After being in the game for more than 30 years and all her achievements she deserves to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now that's what I call disrespected on the highest level there is. Much love to all Mariah's other lambs out there.

With all the positive press about Mariah, I'm not really sure why this was posted here. It's as basic as it gets and sounds like it was written by a pre-teen. I'd rather see content from actual journalists.

When Mariah Carey was released, critics took notice of its "overly produced" and "studio perfect" quality, where in comparison, Emotions maintains a "raw, live sound. Music Box however, falls in between the two, a decision made by Carey during the album's production. She would layer each track with live backing vocals, so not to sound too overly produced, but still kept the inclusion of musical synthesizers. (Nickson, Chris (1998), Mariah Carey revisited: her story, St. Martin's Press, ISBN 978-0-312-19512-0).
Guess making it sound like a song from Emotions was intentional.

Nonstop promotion will not necessarily change the results. She will just exhaust herself. It's not the quantity but quality. She has an image problem, the diva the legend, that essentially means old and has-been. New music landscape is about being relatable. That is why the remix was important. She gets acceptance again, then release a good song. That's what she did after Glitter with Busta Rhymes. She needs to be accepted first, now however good the song is she's getting rejected.

Just a theory. It's not that deep. It even begins similarly to Can't Let Go. It would sound at home between And You Don't Remember and If It's Over. It would sound at home between And You Don't Remember and If It's Over.

I wrote that it sounds like an unused Emotions track because it does, it doesn't sound like any other song on Music Box. However, it does sound similar to several songs from Emotions. Just a theory. It's not that deep. It even begins similarly to Can't Let Go.

I don't understand why self professed lambs are complaining about this era. Mariah has released three videos within days of each songs release (which had been a major issue). More importantly the videos aren't embrassing or cringe worthy. Caution is a great album and the tour is an overwhelming success. Mariah isn't promoting the album version of A No No because a remix is imminent and the promotional efforts will be focused on the remix. Go to YouTube and watch clips of Mariah singing YDKWTD and be festive. By the way, don't forget to stream A No No.

I also see it becoming the most viewed video from the album. Its release has also increased the views of GTFO and With You.

I agree with you. You can go to Spotify, and look how many people are listening to Mariah each month. There are more people listening to Mariah than to Madonna. Of the 80's and 90's female music stars, Mariah is one of the most streamed on Spotify. I don't remember exactly the figures, but Mariah has more streams per month than Madonna, Janet, Toni Braxton, but I think Britney, Celine and Whitney have slightly more listeners than Mariah, but the streaming numbers are almost the same.
Of course, Mariah can't compare to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Adele or Demi Levato. But if you look at Beyonce, she has much bigger numbers than Mariah, but then again, a lot less then Taylor, Ariana, Adele and Demi. So Beyonce is also experiencing what you are talking about, her popularity has started to decline. She had a good run though.
As for female artists, old or young, Mariah's Spotify streaming numbers are decent, cementing her legacy. That I think, is a barometer for success these days.

Video view check-in (88,549)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

The "A No No" video is having some steady viewing this week. My guess is it'll be the most viewed video from the album sooner rather the later: 1) GTFO - 7.9M views (uploaded 6 months ago, September 14, '18) 2) With You - 6.8M views (uploaded 5 months ago, October 10, '18) 3) A No No - 2.2M views (uploaded 5 days ago, March 8, '19)
I really enjoy how well all three of these videos flow together, and watching them as a trilogy.

You know how when babies and children need the love and support of adults? Then they become adults and can support themselves? Then they become elderly and need support again?
Well the life cycle of a musician is similar. They often start out as unknowns or independent artists who measure their success in streams and viral, touring or underground moments. The very few who break out and become stars get put into rotation on radio. Eventually they get older and radio takes them out of rotation, at which point they go back to measuring success the same way they did when they were just starting out. Mariah skipped the indie stage because of Tommy, but the rest still applies.
All this is to say that we probably shouldn't be trying to measure Mariah's success by radio play anymore. Probably not by charts either. She can still chart, a la Glitter, because streams and sales do count, but radio play is also a big factor, so she's unlikely to chart as high as we would like. Also, this life cycle is on the verge of breaking. New artists like SZA, Solange and Frank Ocean are considered successful despite being a non-factor on radio. Likewise for veteran acts like U2. So it should be interesting to see if radio's role in determining the success of an artist will continue to diminish in the years to come.

Would you rather see Mariah in concert, or listening to her on the radio?
She hasn't had a hit since #Beautiful, all her singles after that have been flops. Is then A No No a flop, if a flop is the standard? No, A No No is the best single and video Mariah has released in years, for us fans to enjoy. I don't think many here think that Mariah will have massive hits again. I don't even think Mariah her self thinks that.
So, if I understand you correctly, a new single, a cool new video, a tour, is not enough for you. She has to be everywhere, omnipresent, in the US and in Germany at the same time, on every magazine cover and on every talkshow. Don't you think Mariah her self is a bit tired of this? Don't you think Mariah herself is enjoying her millions of dollars, while still have the opportunity to express herself through music, getting the critical appraisal she has deserved for years?
This is not enough, is it, for you?
Tell me, what kind of standards do you have for your own life? I hope you are busy doing everything you can possibly do to get the most out of time. I guess you don't have minute to spare, succeeding on every level in your life.

Open to interpretation. "Long ago, you used to want me. Now it's all so far away, but you still haunt me" is the same as "I can't remember when you last were tender, as it's always touch and go, the silence chills me to the bone". Both indicate someone used to be passionate about her and now they're not. And PS Everything Fades Away was published in 1993. Don't know where this "unused Emotions track" theory sprang from (based on no evidence at all) unless you can point me to the quote saying that?

At this point (88,544)

At this point bringing up the same topics without any clear information and understanding is pointless. Until MC chooses to speak on these topics such as her voice we can continue to assume what happened. I no longer need an answer for myself. I appreciate MC for her limitations as long as she is healthy and able to give me quality music I am ok. If I choose to continue to bring up the MC that was from 1990-1996. This is why YouTube and DVD’s and other forms of media somewhat still exist. But we all have certain things regarding MC that we want answers to but that does not mean that we are entitled to them. Let’s keep that in mind.

The meaning of the message is that if she doesn’t do any promotion for her singles she will continue to flop and flop and flop. And a tour and music video is not good enough promotion for her at this stage in her career.
