A track so good that even after clocking in at over 6 minutes it makes you wish it was a little longer. Definitely love the Beautiful Ones vibe. I’d love to hear about how the Eddie Murphy dialogues got incorporated into it. Feels bizzare but works so well at the same time.

Cohesion (86,641)

The new buzz word. No longer merely a "body of work" it is a "cohesive" one. Let me translate: for "cohesive" read "all sounds the same".

You think Caution is better then E=MC2? I think Caution made you fall asleep and you're dreaming. The second half of Caution is so boring even one of the critics said so. Watch the sales drop off. Watch it fall out of the 200 before Christmas. It's boring musically, lyrically and vocally.

I enjoyed this as well. She's giving us a little more without giving all the info away. There's still so much I want her to talk about, but I'm not going to dwell it because alot of those things she's probably never going to talk about. Anyway I appreciate whomever and whatever has her back focused. I haven't been this interested in her interviews in awhile. I'm glad Divariah has been locked up for the interviews. That broad can get annoying. Lol.

Giving Me Life is my favorite song on Caution. It literally gives me life. I'm hoping and praying that Carey and Diane Martel give us a video like The Roof for GML.

Forever Mariah: an interview with an icon (86,633)

Love this interview. Mariah has been firing on all cylinders during the Caution. From the album, interviews, puplic appearances, and performances this era is isn't the Caution era it's the redemption of Mariah Carey era.

Caution: a track a day (3 of 7) (86,632)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Giving Me Life It's been a long time since Mariah made a song as unmistakably nocturnal as this one. It combines the sleek, sensual vibe of The Roof with echoes of The Beautiful Ones in the epic instrumental outro. In today's fast-paced music industry where songs are expected to deliver the goods and capture the listener's shortened attention span as soon as possible to avoid the risk of being skipped on Spotify, almost no one makes sprawling, experimental masterpieces such as this anymore. Thankfully, Mariah threw Caution (*wink*) to the wind and made her most musically intriguing song in a long time.
Yes, the chorus' opening lyric is cringeworthy, even more so when you realize it's coming from a middle-aged legend who has struggled with chart success for the past decade - it could straight up sound like a desperate cry for relevance. But it really is to Mariah and Blood Orange's credit that one doesn't really even notice this line because of the brilliance of the song's composition and overall production. In fact, you only get to notice from the first listen it if you're a lyric-focused listener or reading the lyrics.
The song features Mariah's most understated melodies and vocal performances in a while. With her diminished range, it was a wise decision for her to stick to her lower register, which, unlike her higher notes, have aged like premium leather that has developed a patina, earning the characted it lacked in the past, say like in Melt Away.
Giving Me Life does exactly that to any listener that is open enough to overlook its running time and is willing to welcome back a more experimental Mariah.

I couldn't agree more. It's her best album since TEOM. I'm listening to "Caution" everyday and it's really among my favourites, with Daydream, Butterfly, Mariah Carey and TEOM.

Merry Christmas (86,630)
by Bobby A from United States

I think as a vocalist, MC was at her finest on Merry Christmas. When I listen to the Merry Christmas album on vinyl, I can hear her lovely tone and fullness of her voice so clearly. Also, the dual disc CD version of the album brings out the same clarity in CD form. AIWFC just may make Hot 100 top 5 this year. Radio is playing it like crazy this year.

Yes I'm loving her chats. Did you catch the tea she spilled about brand A Kmart? That she is the one who tried to buy the rights to her music for $5000? She fantasy the name, but in the whole context, caught that. So glad Mimi had the intuition, forethought etc, not to do that. Maybe that's the Re A reason Brand A has lingering resentment, she didn't get a cut.

The song usually explodes on 24th and 25th. After the 25th, the song completely drops on all these charts. This year, Christmas the 25th is on a Tuesday. Sales and streaming starts on a Friday and ends on a Thursday, while airplay is Monday to Sunday. This means the song only has a chance for number 1 before the 24th and 25th. It's possible, but difficult. Next year it has an even stronger chance, which is appropriate since the song turns 25 next year. If we want it to go number on this year, we need to stream if big time. But I would like the song to top this year, that could help A No No remix.

Cohesive vs. disjointed (86,625)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada

I believe "Butterfl" and "Caution" are Mariah's most cohesive albums start to finish. The track to track flow of both albums is masterful.
"Rainbow" and "MIAM" are completely disjointed. I can count the number of times I've listened to Rainbow start to finish on one hand nearly two decades after its release (although I like all the songs individually). I love every single MIAM track individually (except for the oddly unnecessary "America The Beautiful" bonus), but now listening to it front to back in order, after listening to "Caution", it's very jarring sequencing. I've always had MIAM sequenced differently on my personal playlist since it came out.
The cohesion of "Caution" juxtaposed to the disjointed nature of MIAM truly exemplifies how Mariah's got a renewed love and connection with her art.
"Let the queen make music for her most loyal of fans, but more importantly, for herself." - Lauren Alvarez, Forbes. This statement is as true for "Butterfly" as it is for "Caution".

Ahh this all makes so much more sense. Now listening to "8th Grade", relating it to Mariah being an outsider at elementary school, being young and exposed to very adult elements and situations in life etc. "8th Grade" is a song title that makes sense. She should have kept the full title "8th Grade, Rough" to give some insight to the lyrical references, however what she said in the Pitchfolk interview, and what she explained in the Genius interview give clarity. These recent interviews have been amazing. I've gotten so used to Mariah giving vague, pussy-footing, non-answers in interviews when asked specific and direct questions about her music, that it's a breath of fresh air to hear her once again explain her art and it's conception in detail the way she did a decade ago. Ok, now that I've gotten my answer, I don't have a single gripe about "Caution" at all. Well, other then I wish "Caution" had two more songs because only 40 minutes of new Mariah is simple not enough sugar for my ears.

I like the title too. I love everything which is nostalgic. And the 8th grade was tough for me too. I guess for most 14-15 year old ones it still is.

Good for Mariah calling out the nonsense about the rude and or ignorant comments about her race, related to the Kaepernick post she made on IG. That crap is so tired.
