With You radio airplay (84,444)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I know it doesn't impact pop radio until October 16th, but it is odd that I am in the DFW market with 5 pop radio stations and no one is playing it before the impact date. What is going on with the relationship between MC and radio programmers? There was a time when a Mariah Carey single was released on a certain date that radio stations immediately started playing it ever hour. Who started this impacting radio on a certain date mess? If they don't play it on the impact date, I am really going to be worried about the success of With You and the album too. She needs radio right now. Social media is not going to sell records. And where is the video that was shot three weeks ago?

First of all, I don't appreciate some of y'all blasting Mariah's clothing choices and videos by slut-shaming her, calling the videos "prostitute-style" videos, or her high heels "prostitute shoes", calling her "trashy" and stuff. It's misogynistic, and incredibly disrespectful. It's her body. And y'all have absolutely no say in another person's choices. I could never understand how people could be so casually sexist in a public messageboard without any form of guilt and remorse. You don't like how she dresses. Fine. You don't like the style of her videos. Fine. But never, ever, ever slut-shame someone, no matter how famous, just no. Some of y'all can take a page from this_is_qhm in how to criticise and express your opinions without being disrespectful.
Second of all, well, this is a bit lighter, but I don't understand why some of you dislike the swearing. Some of the best songs I've ever heard has swear words in it. Personally, I just thought that the swear words in GTFO and With You were kinda out of place, because of the atmosphere of the songs she released, but I have no other problem with it. Do you just dislike swearing in general, or is it just specific for these two songs?

AMA performance (84,442)
by T from USA
| |

I have a feeling when Mariah needs an idea she reverts back to something she's done before. I'm thinking she will look back at her last time at the AMA's with the "I Stay In Love" performance. Meaning we may get a similar set up of her walking down the stairs but this time it will be Bryan who will hold her hand (instead of Nick Cannon). This would be completely cheesy. I know Mariah thinks the public wants/expects all this glitz and glamour from her, but I don't think she gets it. People want the unexpected from her. They also want her to remind them of the raw talent she once used to exhibit. To her she might find it "boring" but I believe she should do what she did on the MTV acoustic Love Story segment. Just imagine a blacked out stage and audience. With only one spotlight placed on Mimi. She's sitting there on an artist's stool with only a microphone in her hand singing her heart out. It's really the only way to differentiate herself from the Jlo's and Taylors who will be performing.

Album drop (84,440)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Maybe Beyonce was on to something by releasing the whole album all at once on her own through the Internet? I mean, she took all the power away from radio and the labels to make the decision if she's play worthy or not. If the album is indeed about all the portraits of her life then she could've spent the summer filming low budget "photography" music videos or snapshots and then she could've surprised everyone with an album drop and let the public decide which songs they want to be played on radio. I'm sure in the whole album there is one sure fire hit but this way we only get what the label/Mariah let us hear first.

Re: JLo at AMAs: shoes (84,423) (84,436)

I couldn't agree more about the shoes. It is hard to watch someone you love teetering on shoes that are impossible to walk in. It makes her whole stage presence way more awkward than it needs to be. Please ditch the platforms Mariah, you might think they make you look taller and slimmer but all I see is someone always afraid of falling over. And I don't want you to fall over. Please bring back the amazing, classy, flattering shoes. (For example something like in the Honey or Sweetheart video or 1999 Billboard music awards.)

I think her first alcohol reference was in The Roof (Moet) which is one of her most praised songs.

By the way, have you heard anything about a Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) collaboration rumored to be on the album? He's the talented guy behind Carly Rae Jepsen's All That and Solange's True EP, among other things. Here's hoping they made a hot track or two. Or more.

Are we doing our part? (84,433)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Since the release of With You, I have posted a screen-recorded clip of the song playing loudly on my phone and posted it as stories on my Facebook and Instagram accounts daily. I have emailed and messaged friends informing them that Mariah has a new song out and encouraged them to listen to it on Spotify. That's of course aside from buying and streaming the song myself. Yes, I have a life and a regular job as well, in public service. It doesn't take that much time or effort, really. And I know it's not much, but it sure beats coming on here to whine on a song you don't like.
No one's forcing us to support a lukewarm single. But I just choose to support Mariah the person, because despite every criticism that I have said or posted and will continue to say or post about her in the future, I'll always be that moon-eyed kid in the candy store when it comes to any new release from her. It may disappoint me, but part of me will always be thankful that she still wants to put out new music, no matter how awesome or terrible it sounds. It's her bad lipping and half-assed performances are really what's ruining her legacy more than bad music. Mariah does not have a bad album - just underrated or uneven ones.
So come her AMAs performance next week, I'll be waiting for the first videos of her performance on YouTube as I won't be able to watch it on TV like Americans do. I'll be keeping an eagle eye on any news regarding upcoming the album. So to those who feel me, let's do this. I really hope I am doing my part as much as I hope y'all are, too. Peace.

I saw one reaction video commenting that the house they used for the GTFO video looks like someone's Grandmother's house - the decor, the furnitures, the sheets, curtains all scream Granny's house. Lol. I like the song, but I agree with their sentiments re the video.

In all honesty, it would take all 30 of us posting here, an army of 10,000 minions (each) streaming and watching With You on repeat 24/7 for it to even chart. So lets keep things real here please and not obsess over a 19th number one.. Enjoy her music and if it speaks to your soul so much why does it even matter if others validate your preference with their approval? Mimi isn't about the masses anymore and the masses surely aren't about Mimi. Enjoy her music and celebrate her era like the legend that she is but don't hope for chart success because that can't happen for her in this day and age. If she really is hiding a Drake collaboration for whatever ridiculous reason for a later date after the album drops and nobody cares about it anymore then that's stupidity on ice. She makes questionable choices but she ain't that crazy. I have grown to love With You. Do I still think it should not have been a lead single? Hell yes. Time will show us the other Migrate's and YDKWTDs that she shoulda woulda coulda on this album as well.

She uses profanities as a crutch, because she thinks they will make her songs interesting or give them the edge which they do not. Releasing two songs in a row with F bombs won't do her any favour because they will not be played on the radio. And it's not like she's still selling records by the hundreds of thousands like before. I'm really rooting for her, that's why you care this much, but I hope she and her sycophant fans that she employs will realize that memes' life cycle is a week, tops.

Snooze fest (84,426)
by george golden from uk

What a let down. What is wrong with her? If she is tired she should just call it a day. GTFO is so much better than this snoozefest. How about just dropping the album instead of releasing terrible singles. Who is telling her that this a great single and where is the video? Total mess. Now all her songs mention alcohol and the f word plus the prostitute type videos. This woman is becoming trashy and class less. Sorry guys I am really pissed.

Give it a rest (84,425)
by Luke from United Kingdom

The level some people hold Mariah at is depressing. Give the woman a break, imagine having thousands of people talk about you the way some of you talk about her. You complain when she doesn't release music and then complain when she does. Go listen to someone else then. I actually think With you is one of her best songs she's released in ages since MIAM. I can't stop listening to it. Let's also not act like she's just started talking about alcohol in her music, she mentioned Bacardi and getting high on weed in It's Like That. I really hope she doesn't read these message boards and if she does she's a more resilient person than I would be in her position.

How sad that we have to talk about convincing lippy and pre records on what should be a live performance. How much our expectations have lowered. Mariah needs to ditch the prostitute shoes because she obviously can't use them like a professional one and just wear something comfortable for once, she is always in the middle of the performance complaining about her shoes but never leaving them aside. I'm not asking her to dance but a least walk. That's my expectation for the next show. To see Mariah walk without using her personal Bry-cane. Just like she did in iHeart.

The incarceration of Mimi (84,422)
by TheOne from UK
| |
|
|
Where is the voice? Where is the big lead single? Where has Mariah's mojo gone? We know Mariah is here, but is she actually present? I like GTFO, but I think With You is boring, and filler material. How has mustard charged for producing that? Where's the so called "hot" production? I'm confused. A high school student could produce that on a Casio keyboard. It seems that for the past 8 to 10, with each album, we've been told Mariah is not chasing trends. She's been writing non stop. She's producing music that will blow fans minds. She will surprise fans and the public. She's producing old school rnb tunes. In reality, we've received big standard, uninspired music, with lyrics that are trying so hard to be edgy and down, but instead make her look tired and desperate. I cringe when I hear some of the lyrics. I'm not even asking for 90s Mariah, where is TEOM Mariah? Where is Mimi? Can someone set her free please?

Good one Joachim. I find the whole stanning and mocking thing goes for female artists in general though. If you are a female doing anything, you are praised as long as you meet the standards. Stop doing that and you will be basically annihilated. This is what society in general is like to female leaders in any walk of life, it would be a bit unfair to put it all on the gay fans. The article was a very enjoyable read, thank you.
