Angel's Advocate tour (82,475) by Bobby A from United States
The Angel's Advocate tour is one nobody ever talks about. The tour was very special for me because it was my first time seeing Mariah live ever in Atlanta. The Angel's Advocate tour was Mariah's last big tour with multiple dates back to back. Her voice was strong and sounded great. What I found to be odd was that her voice sounded so hoarse and raspy on MOIA, but when she toured during Angel's Advocate her voice had no rasp or hoarseness. That goes to show what we can expect with the new album and the shows in July and August. Her voice should sound really awesome because she has lost weight and feeling good about her new look. She probably will never do a huge tour again because her voice just can't sustain that type of singing night after night. The Adventures of Mimi DVD is evidence. I just can't watch it as much as I would like to because she sounded so hoarse during much of the concert.

Lol I understand. I couldn't even do the 2000's. Too many blurred and drunken eras for me.

Wow, I love your list Randy. We have a lot of music in common. Thank you for taking the time out in doing it as well. Funny how we both stopped after 2010.

New list (82,472) by Haiji Toro from USA
Here's my list.
1986 "Sara" by Starship is the first song I remember to ever hear, but Janet's "Control" album takes it.
1987 MJ "Bad" album
1988 Sade "Stronger Than Pride" album
1989 Madonna "Like A Prayer"
1990 Of course lol Mariah Carey's debut album
1991 Boyz II Men "Cooleyhighharmony" and MJ's "Dangerous"
1992 Prince "Love Symbol" and Madonna's "Erotica"
1993 Ace of Base "The Sign" and Whitney's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" (released 1990)
1994 TLC "CrazySexyCool", Green Day "Dookie", Selena "Amor Prohibido", Madonna "Bedtime Stories"
1995 Mary J. Blige "My Life", Boyz II Men "II", MC "Music Box" &
"Daydream", MJ "HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I" and Alanis Morissette "Jagged Little Pill"
1996 MC "Daydream" (still lol), Monica "Miss Thang", 2Pac "All Eyez On Me", Selena "Dreaming Of You", Celine Dion "Falling Into You"
1997 MC "Butterfly" and basically the majority of hip hop/r&b acts/songs of that era.
I then became obsessed with MC''s music and the rest is history. 2000's music was ok. I do like Britney, Christina, some rap. 2010's "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" was the only album I remember purchasing during that era. I purchased everything else she released then on and a few other songs here and there. Most music of today isn't enjoyable to listen to multiple times. What a blessing to be able to listen to any song from any era. This list was time consuming, tbh. I don't blame anyone for not posting theirs. I figured I'd do the honour since I suggested it, based on Bill's awesome idea.

Great idea. New list. Starting from earliest memory, what song or album defined each year up to 2018?

Re: janet. turns 25 (82,463) (82,467) by Haiji Toro from USA
this_is_qhm, I love when you describe any album. You bring it to life. I absolutely love janet., the album, as well as the entertainer. At that time in my life, I was 12 and didn't go out to buy it until 3 years later. Although I did hear some of the songs on the radio at times, it wasn't until I purchased it, that I became so obsessed with it, that I also went out and bought the vhs with the videos and behind the scenes. That's when I discovered that Sweet'n-Lo was her then backup dancer.

I'm not jealous, and I love sexiness with class. But there should always be something left for the fantasy. She is so beautiful she doesn't need those publicity. Some other midlife crisis c-celebrity like Heidi Klum (tasteless woman) can show the world their naked body. Boring as hell. I want some classy photoshoot. Mariah doesn't need to prove anything.

Yes yes yes. I love talking late 90s albums with you. Such a great album with so much variety and yet I like every song on it. That's The Way Love Goes is still one of my all time favorite songs. The interludes were super short and it was the first time I'd seen that so it seemed creative. I actually think it influenced even more artists, and as I read your post I instantly thought Stripped by Christina, another brilliant and eclectic masterpiece. I love both of those album tracks you mentioned, so mellow and gorgeous. This album and its singles were massive in the Emancipation of Mimi type of way, where at least 10 songs made their way as singles and on the radio and had amazing and creative videos on heavy rotation. WAYN was played on the radio here for a long time and so was Throb, my favorite of the uptempos. I loved her SNL performances of it, have you seen it? She also did Anytime, Anyplace. The tour was amazing as well, my first time seeing her. I just listened to the CD yesterday on its anniversary. Brought back memories of riding my bike and going to the pool and playing Sega Genesis all summer long. Crazy thing is I did almost the same thing the next summer, because the songs were still on the radio, even the B-sides. Have you heard And On And On? Ok I know what I'm doing today.

1993 was a great year musically anyway, and I agree, Janet was a great album. Especially when I discovered Whoops Now by mistake. What a bonus that was. From those opening strings of Morning to the rainfall that finishes Sweet Dreams, every track and interlude in between works really well. That, Music Box, and Dina Carroll’s So Close defines 1993 for me.

janet. turns 25 (82,463) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
One of the most impressive strings of albums in pop ever is Janet Jackson's Control - Rhythm Nation 1814 - janet. - The Velvet Rope in terms of quality, creativity and chart success (heck, I'd even include All For You and Damita Jo up there but that's just me). From a declaration of female independence to social awareness to celebration of the female sexuality to mature introspection - Janet's laid down the blueprint that would be emulated by almost every black female singer out there today. janet. remains her most eclectic collection of songs to date. The genre-hopping masterpiece where there are more interludes than actual songs still sounds relevant today. Nothing will ever touch the slinky bassline of That's The Way Love Goes, the sheer creativity of If, and the sensual slow burn of Any Time, Any Place. And those are just 3 of the 9 singles. I personally love those that didn't get released as well, such as The Body That Loves You and Where Are You Now. Such a great album. It's no wonder that it's her bestselling one. Happy 25, janet.

Re: JLo (82,458) (82,462) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Point taken. Sure, not all of J. Lo's endeavors post 2000 have prospered, but what I wanted to point out in my last post was that regardless of how J. Lo's ventures perform commercially, she and her team has done better at making her efforts count towards maintaining an image that's likable. Granted, Mariah has had some projects that have worked to her favor, but those are all overshadowed by those that did not - American Idol, Mariah's World, Infinity, I Don't. Both are moguls at this point, but J. Lo's stamp and brand has been more visible. Not to mention to a shade-sniffing public, Mariah just seems to give them what they want for them to twist and blow up, portraying Mariah as an insecure, catty bitch and therefore lessening her likability. Sure, visibility and likeability does not automatically translate to commercial/critical success, but in the age of social media, the more you're seen in a good light, the better your chances of being recognized and followed by the newer generation, and for aging 90s divas, that's vital. The entertainment industry relies so much on perception that very little attention ever gets paid to the actual talent and effort. That's where Mariah loses. On a brighter note, losing Stella was a huge step in the right direction, but Mariah still needs to get out of her comfort zone and high horse and put in the extra work.

Dear Elizabeth. In order to prove the righteousness of your [censored] stupid point, please post pictures of you naked with special emphasis on your tits and vagina whilst holding up a sign saying "mcarchives.com". I assume you won't do this, so, let me me break it down for you: you're a bellend.

JLo (82,458) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Some might say she is more likable and she may have been more favorable, but post 2008 she has struggled in the form of popularity. Among other things her last album sold less than MIAM, her movies are not doing big numbers either, it’s just her team keeps her in front of the masses and her team has been well equipped, whereas MC had friends who could not handle the job and the last team was just the pits. Besides her singles with Pitbull everything else post 2008 was a commercial failure. If we are going to call a spade let’s do it on both sides, both ladies have been going through their share of challenges in their careers throughout the years.

Article: Mariah Carey is "considering baring all" in a naked shoot (82,457) by Elizabeth Adams from USA
I can't believe that anyone could be against her posing naked. People who don't want her to are either jealous because no one wants to see them naked or they are stuck in some old time Puritanical trap. Mariah has always been confident in her sexy image and I think this is going to be a huge boost to her already fantastic career.

Re: Mariah late to the party? (82,440) (82,456) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
J.Lo is probably the biggest plagiarist of all time, but I do like many her stuff as well, from the debut album to Brave. I even like a few songs on Love?. She has zero originality, but I applaud her for being the first true Latina all-rounder superstar whose charisma and popularity still baffles me to this day. She's got mad focus and has been working non-stop just like Mariah has, except that J.Lo seems to have held it better together especially post 2008. To the average person, she's still more likable than Mariah since then, too.

Re: First impressions of TEOM (82,441) (82,455) by Musti from UK
I don't think Twister is an interlude either. It is structured as a song. Short, but still a song. I even have my reservations about calling Languishing an interlude. Other than its transitional melody, it still sounds like a full song to me.

Dinero (82,452) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
That song is garbage just as everything JLo has released lately and honestly DJ Khaled is overrated all of his latest songs sucks. His best song in recent memory is Wild Thoughts. To be quite honest Khaled is the worst producer of the current music climate he is just all over the place because of his ties to Roc Nation and relationships with different artists other than that he would be another struggling artist/producer trying to get that big break. On another note if Dinero is MC being late to the party I would rather her not show up.
