How would it be? For some reason everytime I listen to this song I have very strong visuals of a beach, Mariah on the sand, a dramatic sunset sky, and a calm, reflective sea. I'd love to know what kind of visuals you all see for this beautiful song. Oh and happy birthday Mimi.

I'm still not over the fact that possibly the best image from the Rainbow era, that "twisty top cloud" pic, was scrapped as the official cover art of the album in favor of that try-hard overly photoshopped mess of an image that manages to make Mariah look like an oompa loompa complexion-wise. Even the tip of her bent left elbow looks like part of it was chipped off. I am not afraid of color except when it looks tacky. And that album cover is not only cheesy, it's also tacky. The music, though a step down from that of its predecessors, is still fun and enjoyable. Even its sequel (in my eyes, MOAIA) somehow sounds more dated than the tracks on Rainbow. If this album was the result of Mariah working under pressure in possibly the worst situation she has been in during the 90s, then that stilll speaks to her talent and capabilities, as these songs did sound a lot of what was on-trend in 1999, but in the hands of less capable artists, they would definitely have been a disaster.

Are you talking about plastic Barbie Mariah? To me, after the sophisticated imagery and vibe of Butterfly, the Rainbow album cover was cheesy af.

Not the only one. I love that song and think it was one of the first times hearing more comical and clever lyrics from Mariah. Perhaps that's a reason why some lambs don't like it. Off to listen to it now.

I still dislike Did I Do That even with my hatred Crapfinity. It's still pretty high on my list of most hated lol. I can't really even explain why I dislike the song considering I like the original rap song that was sampled. Lol.

Did I Do That isn't the worst thing about Rainbow, it's quite good, I think. Rainbow was a fun pop album at a time she needed to compete with a sophisticated pop resurgence. The absolute worst thing about Rainbow is the cover. Now, this is just a theory, but I am convinced her face on the cover art is a photoshop of two different pictures: of one picture of the top of her head and of another one of her jaw and mouth. Hold your fingers over the two parts and you will see what I am trying to get at: the angles don't match, even. The whole image is whacked with photoshop, but her face looks like a bizarre composition of two genuine photos. It's a shame because the imagery from the Rainbow era was amazing. The Valentines pink cover - absorbing. The TGIFY twisty top cloud cover, astounding. The Crybaby unbuttoned purple shirt - sexy whilst understated. Any one of those images would have made an awesome album cover, much better than the strange one she put together. The imagery around Rainbow in terms of videos (ignore CTTA) and promo shoots was immensely fun and iconic.

This article recently wrote about the psychology of having favourite music which peaks during the mid teens. Wonder if it applies to this.

It was my most disliked Mariah track until Boy came along and rocketed to the top of the charts. Then it’s been helped by recent gems like Why You Mad and Crapfinity and Infamous. So it’s still in the top ten somewhere lol. For me it upset the more serious/reflective mood of the second half of the album and probably would have been better received by me had it been on the A side (showing my age with that comment lol).

No you're not. I love it too. It's really an untypical Mariah song. The chorus is a little crazy and so on, but it's great with the lyrics and the vibe.

Yes, let the ring go. I wish for the best for all concerned actually, but real self reflection is required for healing, not just superficial patch and replace and rent a date. And definitely no more petty dress burnings, lol.

You're not the only one. Rainbow is my favorite album, and "Did I Do That" is the best song on that album. I can't understand why so many fans hate that song.

Great post. Rainbow is underrated I think mainly for being the second verse to Butterfly. Tough act to follow really. It's an album I don't usually turn to but when I'm there, I'm loving it. Every track on that album is a winner (except Did I Do That of course), and as you've said, the remixes were fantastic. I was at first nervous after hearing that she stepped away from David Morales for Heartbreaker's club mixes, but Junior Vasquez did a great job. The accompanying tour was also great. I was there in London's Wembly Arena. Not as great as the London stop of the Daydream tour but then, what was?

Packer breakdown (81,523)

This story actually surfaced last week. Packer has been going through something's for a while now not just personally but also professionally as well as financially. I think everything has become overwhelming and he needs to take sometime recharge, and refocus. Honestly mental health issues are nothing to play around with, hopefully Packer can get the much needed resources that he needs.
