Again, slow news and it turns into this. Some of you all need to get a life. Seriously, some of the things that you all worry about are ridiculous and need not be mentioned all the freaking time. Lay off of Mariah. Get over it. No matter what this woman does it's never good enough. I wonder, when I'm on here, and I read this crap, if some of you all have friendships. If you talk about Mariah like trash then how do you treat people who are directly connected to you. A lot of you sound miserable and pathetic. Again, get over it. She ain't doing what you want her to do. Boo hoo, too bad for you. Carey on MC, my love.

On the one hand I agree that she shouldn't be expected to sing everytime or at every event. It was a party and she's allowed to have fun. On the other hand I agree that she could shut a lot of people up if she just sang. Her refusal to sing at times is a little baffling and concerning. I see both sides of the argument. Both sides have valid points.

Lara great quote, it's true. I also think if Mariah would explain the situation or why she doesn't want to sing some people would maybe understand. But like many on this board said, she can do what she wants to, that is something she has achieved most people can't. And it's also true that people expect a singer to sing (even her fans seems to expect it). Personally I think no one should be forced to sing at a birthday party, another vip event or a tv show if the singer doesn't want to. But I agree it would be nice to know some reasons or feelings from her. One thing is clear, to be 28 years in the music biz as a global superstar leaves traces. The advice with "press delete" is very good, I'll press repeat and enjoy Miss Mariah.

Quoting Bjork's song. No news so we start picking up at each other. Personally, I really wish Mariah gave one clear interview about the state of her voice. To let the world her voice isn't the same anymore would remove the huge expectations she has to face everytime, and for sure once that is relieved, her stage "stiffness" would be gone. For me, it's her tone that made her special, not the high belts she strains to reach.

No news at all so why not make some news here on this bitter messageboard by bashing Mariah for not singing at a birthday party. "you're a singer so you must sing." Some of you here please grow a pair and get a life. Especially that one from London.

When did she display her range? Please send me the video and if it's not a performance with lip syncing, playback, dubbing, and Mary Ann picking up the slack I'll stand corrected. It's time we all addressed the elephant in the room.

Yeah well at the same time Edward those who may feel a certain performance sounded good or wasn't that bad shouldn't be called delusional or crazy. Not to say that happened in the case but it happens. I just think we as fans sometimes way over scrutinize every damn thing Mariah does. I'm guilty of it too.

I think we all can talk about anything on this board, as we all always have. I think the issue is, sometimes, the opinions and comments come across rude and heartless. Sometimes racist even and disrespectful. Say what you will, there's plenty of times MC has broken into song randomly and it was a nice little moment. Now, back to what I was stating earlier, I also feel, when reading these comments, topics, whatever, that some people think that Mariah owes this and that, and she needs to do this and that. Open your eyes, she ain't gonna do nothing she doesn't wanna do, so get over it. Who cares what other artists do? Mariah is fine. So many little things get blown out of proportion and half the time it's really not that serious, seriously. Love you MC. Edward I understand how you feel. And yes I agree that maybe she could've just obliged and sang a quick line for us but unfortunately she didn't want to. It's okay. Don't let anyone ruffle your feathers. From what I've seen, she really doesn't like to be put on the spot, and if this is true, I respect that. Other artists don't mind it and that's cool too, right? She doesn't need to be constantly scrutinized for every little thing. Anywho, carry on everyone. Just my rant.

Andrew seriously you must be the most miserable person in the world, the fact that you come to a fan message board everyday and simply hate must suggest that you ain't very happy with your own life. Mariah is very well aware of people like you, hence why she says "true lambily". Let me give you the greatest advice [you] will ever get, go to Mimi on your mind and press delete and enjoy her past albums. Control environment? I think since 2015 that has been the stripped down version of "Thank god I found you". Where Mariah sang her heart out night after night. Bill, you do know that Mariah displayed her 5 octave range just last year. Edward, Patti doesn't have a complex voice like Mariah. Also she sang for him last year and sounded amazing, she gave us low notes, middle notes and high notes. Also I don't know why you guys are expecting Mariah from the 90s, it's not like any of the male legends are half as good as they used to be like Elton john, Bob Dylan, Bono etc. Hell even Adele who's had less than 10 years of active career, has major issues and can't even tour with her fragile voice. Mariah is working hard on her album so she probably wanted a night off from singing. Just because you are a singer doesn't mean you have to sing at every command. Like if Mariah invited Floyd to a party and asked him to go in a ring to fight for charity, he would be so confused and probably turn down the offer.

Mariah avoids singing unless she can control the environment. It. Is. A. Fact. Give Patti a microphone at 73, and she would turn you into Jesus even if you're Donald Trump. So, when somebody brings this point, I don't think it's about negativity. Every singer have their good and bad days, but Mariah seems to be in a perpetual bad-day mode when it comes to a simple request. When you're one of the greatest voices of all times and you're requested to sing a 3-second line but you're not sure, just decline, period. But if you're going to give it try, stop with the smoke and mirrors. I don't know why talking about these things kind of automatically turns you into a goat or something. There's a difference between disagreeing expressing why you disagree as opposed to implying that those who dare to talk about this topic are not good fans.

The tell for me was when she did carpool karaoke. Everyone else goes for it, lets loose and has fun. MC just sat there statuesque and mumbled a few lines in the half octave she has left.

This is "singing"? No, it isn't. It's Mariah doing one or two lines and avoiding singing a song with the usual redirection and bluster, mumbling to herself, nervously trying to look attractive and make jokes. Tell me people's eyes didn't roll into the back of their heads when she held the microphone towards Mayweather and said, "We know you can sing." Tell me people's collective thought was not, "Yes, Mariah, but can you?" I do not mean to be facetious, whilst admittedly sounding so, but it is a perfectly valid point raised. When does Mariah actually sing? When was the last time she had a microphone in a non-controlled environment and let loose? Most singers with a microphone and an audience will sing a song for just the entertainment and fun of it. Mariah won't. And from her usual reactions it does seem to look like Mariah can't. I thought singers liked to sing?

Very slow.... yawns, besides, Mariah sang at Floyd's birthday party last year and sounded pretty good. Maybe this year she just wanted to get faded and have fun.

Her voice being unpredictable meaning she doesn't know whether a cock-a-doodle-doo or a beautiful note would come out. As for having everything "tightly controlled", that includes the right environment, with the possibility of some lipping to some prerecorded track, the usual smoke and mirrors. More than gone, I think her voice is kind of shot. At every turn she's presented with the opportunity to shine with just a little bit of singing, she refuses. Very different to this Mariah.

Not sure I understand "her confidence" being gone. Her voice is gone, you mean. "Control every aspect" means lip sync, no? Mariah Carey is seemingly a singer who no longer sings because she can not. Watching her try to bluster her way out of stuff is cringe. I actually think Jamie Foxx knows she won't do it, judging from the expressions, and he is taking the piss out of her and having fun at her expense. Has Mariah become the desperate washed up lush at the party? It's sad to watch.

That's so funny because I've seen the page Ribbon linked before. There was a back and forth going on under one of the pics at the time I saw it so I stayed and read the comments with my imaginary popcorn, as you do. Whoever was running it was holding their own and eventually just got blocked by the other person because after a few minutes the whole convo disappeared and the user was laughing about it.

True. Plus it was just a party. No one was expecting a big performance but like Edward said and I agree, her confidence is more than likely shot. Therefore, if she can't control every aspect, she's not even going to try.

I didn't have my headphones on and just assumed it was her because the video said it was her. I just assumed it was a poorly shot video from someone in attendance. However, listening to it with my headphones on it's clearly she only sang yeah or something like that. Still a cute moment.

I just thought it was a cute Mariah moment. I had never heard the song before and now it's stuck in my head. Wonder who's decision it was to play it, Mariah's or Jamie's? Mariah should interpolate it into a new song for her new album. Mariah's sampling has also been inspired. She's the female Puffy.

Yeah that wasn't her singing. She barely sang the little of the song that they finally got her to do. I found it hilarious that she tried to play it off by saying "Run me my check motherf*cker", but then I got sad when she really didn't try. Drunk Mariah would have done it and not cared. That drunk video of her singing Heartbreaker is one of my all time favorite performances. Lol.

Even I could sing a chorus of a song reasonably well, and I don't have a God given talent like Mariah. There's that crazy theory that the real Mariah died in 1996 and was replaced by a look-a-like that couldn't sing half as well. I'm starting to believe it lol.
