I thought the same. Wasn't it a throwback pic? Anyway I wish Mariah gets well soon. Like someone said on this board health is wealth. And to be painless. to MC.

I wholeheartedly agree. What makes me love Mariah is that she writes her own material. Not only does she writes she has a phenomenal voice. I will always be one of her biggest fans rooting for her

Well you are not a singer I presume so it's not the same. Mariah can't be sick without you people doubting her too? And Mariah isn't a young girl anymore so respitory infections may take longer to heal.

I thought the pics she posted were from a few years ago. The one that was posted with Tanaka was from last year in Hawaii and the one in the red dress was a few years ago if I'm not mistaken.

1997 interview / "Lead The Way" (79,551)

This is an interview after the release of Butterfly where Mariah mentions that she had already written one song for her movie project. We later found out it was "Lead the Way". Just for anyone wondering because I think this topic has come up again at some point.

Even though everyone is different I have my doubts about this all. I remember when I had an upper respiratory infection and I couldn't really move much from the bed the first days at all, my back hurt a lot, sadly then it turned into an early stage of pneumonia so I had to be in bed for a couple of days. But it resolved quickly to be honest, it took all in all about a week. She is cancelling for a fair amount of time, and then she is having pictures taken looking pretty well, she is probably on painkillers if she is there smiling just fine, then again this is the woman who sang Looking In with a broken rib and chipped shoulder. Whatever she is going through I hope is solved soon and she can go back to singing.

All singers are musicians because they interpret music. Mariah Carey is a songwriter because she can create lyrics and melodies but she is not a composer because she can't read music, she only knows the very basic, which always amazed me, why she never bothered learning to read and write music. Her technic is recording melodies that come out of her head and then write the lyrics based on it, sometimes the lyrics come almost perfectly timed with the melody at the same time, she once explained this and how she does it. Then someone translates her melodies into written music and from there on the arrangements are created, something we got to see her doing with Afanasieff and Big Jim when prepping for live performances. I don't know why I felt like straw picking this haha. But I know what you mean, I always liked that Mariah could create her own set of music as opposed to singers who just do covers or rely on songwriters, no matter how amazing they are as singers, Mariah has that skill that elevates her over others.

Actually there is something interesting about [s]tatue, [t]itle. Mariah Carey is titled as a [m]usician and others as singers. That makes a lot difference. Some are made to sing only, some are made to write for the others and some are made to create and sing their own songs. For example Whitney Houston, Barbara, Céline Dion and many others are just singers (incredible singers even if they did or do try for some to write their own songs, mostly they don't or didn't). Anyway, nowadays there are more singers than [m]usicians who sings their own songs. That's why Mariah is still on [t]op. Sometimes it happens to me to compare Mariah to Freddie Mercury regarding creativity, voice and way to be or even Sir Elton John (but regarding Elton he plays piano as well so he has a plus). Anyway comparing doesn't really make sens, it is more about who is a full artist or just a talented person to interpret songs that has been written for them. Have a nice [w]eekend [g]uy[s].

An upper respiratory infection (79,547)

I actually had an upper respiratory infection a little over a month ago and it was some of the worst three weeks I have ever experienced. You have the only headache that feels like you are being kicked in the head repeatedly it's hard breathe, also you are unable to travel at altitude. So I can definitely sympathize with Mariah here get better MC. Health is definitely wealth.

I was thinking the same, as you could still get tickets a few days back and none of her Christmas shows in New York or Las Vegas have sold out, neither any of her international shows.

Haha that is funny. I thought for a second all the shows before Beacon had something to do with Stella and she would still get a %, but now some of the first Beacon shows won't happen.

Cancelled Christmas shows (79,543)

Am I the only one who thinks Mariah cancelled a lot of her Christmas shows because they may not have sold so well? Perhaps it is cheaper to cancel the shows than to go ahead and play them? I do not believe for one second that she is ill but I am a cynical person.

I really hope Mariah is well, but I hope she announces soon if she will or will not be perfoming at the Beacon Theatre starting Monday for her shows. It will be awful if it's announced the day of the show for everyone traveling to see her. I would assume she would know today if she is "ready" to be back.

Thanksgiving indulgence? (79,537)
by Jeff from USA
| |
|
|
For those in the U.S., yesterday was Thanksgiving. I'm still feeling festive (and treating it like a holiday). We haven't had a good list in a while. Would the board indulge me? I was thinking today about the songs that I "indulge" in, meaning the songs that I go to time and time again. Here's my top 10 that have been on repeat multiple multiple times: 10. Melt Away 9. Obsessed 8. Fantasy 7. H.A.T.E.U. 6. My All 5. Stay the Night 4. Betcha Gon Know 3. We Belong Together 2. The Roof 1. Breakdown

I just want to say when Mariah was in her prime there was no way Christina could touch her. Mariah really taught Christina how to sing. Christina said she listened to her and tried to imitate Mariah. Along with Whitney. Mariah has lost some of her voice because she has been recording for almost 30 years. Every year of the 90's Mariah Carey put out an album. Plus she would go back and do great remixes. There's so much Mariah can do she's a great singer that in my opinion she still surpress other singers. Her voice is legendary also she is a prolic songwriter. Christina can sing. I will give her that she cannot write like Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey pen game is phenomenal plus nobody does a remix quite like Mariah when you put everything together the voice, songwriting, remarkable remixes Mariah Carey is way more talented than any of her contemporaries. I look at it like this all the others are just Mariah Carey wannabes like Christina, Ariana, Demi, etc.
