Glitter OST (79,074)
by Billy from Greece
| |
|
|
Giving "Glitter" a spin after quite some time. Mariah is on fire here. Free, uninhibited, hot grooves, experimenting with different musical structures, creating a concept, giving nostalgic vibes. The absolute escapist experience. This album is the bomb.

Does anyone know when or where this performance of The Star happened? She posted it on her Instagram, but there are no other details.

Do you think you could upload to YouTube or a file sharing website? Those are good ways for you to be able to share it with multiple people at once.

Right. She said several times out of her own mouth that she was in love with him. Nothing to guess about there.

Re: My All (79,057) (79,066)
by Andrew from UK

I think, on reflection, My All is probably just a really famous Mariah Carey song. Honey, whilst ground-breaking for Mariah and for the industry at that time, is not as famous. "Do you remember this song?" she shouted. My All is a classic in its own right, outside of the Carey attachment. It harkens back to the days when Mariah produced professional sounding music. Leap forward to The Star and you have no momentum, clunky production and a vocal which rhythmically stops and starts so much you'll need anti-anxiety medication and a Fast Response Unit just to give it a re-listen.

Re: Outside (EMC Stripped Version) (79,060) (79,065)
by Andrew from UK

I never realised that the denouement to Outside is actually almost a minute long. Good ending to an album. I had the British version which had the two Honey remixes tacked on. It's strange: if there were anything after Looking In on the Daydream album I would think it sacrilege. I wonder what it would be like to think of Outside as the actual denouement itself, to Butterfly? When I hear the ending of Always Be My Baby, for example, my head immediately goes to the opening bars of When I Saw You. When I hear the ending of AYNAF (I can do that one) I immediately hear the opening tones of Music Box. Likewise, after Outside, I always hear the Honey Club remix. I think, perhaps, it would have been nicer to have that as the ending. But I, like most teenagers, was quite angst-ridden. Better to have a cry, then party.

Beats me as well. The My All video is sexy and appealing, but her Honey clip is still her best video. A little anticlimactic, the ending is all sorts of cheese, but overall it's still one of her most re-watchable visuals. It reminds us of a time when Mariah actually genuinely cared about her music career. She had a statement to make and a point to prove. These days, she's limbo in human form.

I mixed the orchestra version with the EMC stripped version (also did a few adjustments in the volume of her voice here and there). I'd would be more than happy to share it with you fellow lambs. What would be the best way?

I agree with you. I feel as well the little Mermaid theme in One Child. Marck Schaiman made it very well. Mariah loves this cartoon. I do think about the same theory. Anyway when you are an artist in this business, you have to please everybody and to make money, so they squeeze you like an orange and when you do not produce any juice (the substance, very Spinoza) they destroy you and you destroy yourself (artist complex?). At the beginning Mariah was non stop producing, writing, performing, interview, studio, tour, new album every year and so on. The substance is still there but I am not in her shoes so I can not say anything but If I were her I would take a huge break, enjoy family, studio holiday, media break, social media break, she is a go getter so I am not affraid she will always be back, regarding the image I stoped paying attention, they destroyed Michael Jackson's image and others artist as well. I just listen the talent, the music and the writing. One Child is wow (sorry I do not have any words for It, because it is (for me) perfection, music, lyrics, choir, producing). Have a nice day or night everbody.

"One Child" (orchestra) / "Happy Ending" (79,059)
by Anonymous from UK

I was just listening to the "One Child" orchestral arrangement posted by Mariahsvocals on YouTube and I can heavily hear the orchestral "Happy Ending", the closing track on the "The Little Mermaid" OST. The last 40 seconds of One Child caught my attention at first, but then listening to the whole thing I hear major referencing throughout. Or am I hearing things? I know Mark Shaiman co produced, to give it that extra musical feel, and it would tie in with her love of the film. But still. (I have another theory that Mariah relates to The Little Mermaid so strongly not just cause she loves swimming, but because she "traded her voice" for the freedom she loves but couldn't otherwise have.)

Andrew, I wondered the same and concluded that Honey is probably over saturated, as is Heartbreaker, Fantasy and It's Like That. I'm sure they're the most common Mariah videos I'd randomly catch on T.V. or see clips from. Maybe, aside from the mega hits, people then gravitate towards songs they love but won't have seen so frequently, hence the less expected tracks higher view count? Saying that, pre VEVO, each of Mariahs videos had hundreds of millions of views each and it all got wiped, meaning current view counts aren't that reflective of the videos overall success and are perhaps more reflective of the younger generations perceptions of Mariah? Either way, I'm not a fan of the video either. It's too try hard but bland. The abstract yet moody concept they use to push the fact that Herb Ritts shot it (as if it wasn't publicised) thus it's art and "arty" didn't pay off for me, but she looks incredible.

Perhaps she was looking and feeling her best and in love. Those are good reasons to marry and to have kids. The thing is now, she seems to have dropped all that she used to say she cared about, making many question her authenticity, motives, etc. Flaunting a ring from a failed rebound only adds to that.

Eight new endeavors MC needs right now (79,054)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I have been thinking about new endeavors MC is missing right now. Here is what I came up with: 1. A new manager and publist. 2. A makeover including a 2008 E=MC2 weight loss. 3. A duet with an unexpected male artist. Ex. Sam Hunt, Ed Sherran, or Stokley. 4. A new CD with no more than 12 great songs. No rappers, no fluff, and no leftover tracks. 5. An intimate small venue concert tour in the summer 2018 to reconnect with the public: MC Unplugged 2018. 6. Reunite with Walter Afansieff and Babyface. She made beautiful music with these two producers. 7. Please a Bruno Mars and Daley collaboration. 8. A Kelly Clarkson and Sia collaboration. I miss the Mariah from 1990-1997. Always will be her best years.

George Michael back at #1 (79,053)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Congratulations to "The Singing Greek" on Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1 returning to #1 after 27 years. Despite the strong competition, the classic never lost its shine. Although not my favorite album from him, I cannot deny the excellent craftsmanship behind it. Considered as his rebellious album, it's a shame the issue with Sony at the time killed all chances of releasing its volume 2. Still, this triumph is a proof of his brilliance and the quality of his output. I love Heal The Pain, Freedom '90, Praying For Time and Soul Free. R.I.P. George.

I don't understand how My All has 100M views and Honey 35M. Honey is a superior video. By far. My All is Mariah lying in a boat. Every guy in school talked about Honey. Everyone talked about it. It was brilliant. And Mariah has never looked so stunning as standing in that beach in white with the white sheets blowing. Nothing makes sense anymore. Stop the planet. Getting off.

Re: That ring (79,020) (79,051)

As long as Mariah has that ring around her finger she will remain devoid of any class and unworthy of respect. That she has not already removed says much about her newly developed personality. I, for one, find people flashing extreme wealth in public quite vulgar. When you earned it by spreading your legs, as in the ring, the vulgarity knows no bounds.

Mariah's Starz series (79,050)
by B from USA
| |
|
|
I hope Mariah Starz series is written and produced by a talented showrunner. I hope Mariah's involvement is limited to telling the writer stories. I also hope the casting agent doesn't do a poor job casting a young Mariah. If the casting is wrong the series won't work. Mariah needs a writer and director like Danny Strong or Ryan Murphy. It has everything. An underdog, a prostitute, an absentee father, and a neurotic mother, and Mariah's adorable twins.
