Despacito / Felices los 4 (77,803)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

With Despacito, Luis Fonsi & Co. were able to capture lightning in a bottle. Not to discredit the song, it sure has its merits, but it's one of those rare unlikely hits that went far resulting from a confluence of luck, hype, and star power - so much so that the material itself became secondary (see Blurred Lines). Chances are this will end up as a once-in-a-lifetime achievement for most of those involved (possibly with the exception of Bieber) and that probably none of the artists involved will ever be able to top such achievement for the remaining stretch of their career. Thanks to this song, though, Latin music has been given a lease of life after being dormant since the early 2000s. Reggaeton is in now. If this is the song to break Mariah's record, then it is what it is. But if it were up to me, I'd honestly rather have Maluma's Felices los 4 (currently the #2 Latin song) at #1 for it being a more interesting, melodic, engaging listening experience.

I enjoy the song, the Bieber version but in no way do I think it deserves to be at #1 for so long. This is its 13th week, 2 more weeks at it breaks Mariah's record of holding the #1 and #2 position of the longest running #1 single, Another additional 2 weeks and OSD's record will be broken. I still hope some miracle happens, read on UK Mix that another song just went viral so it might go to #1.

Ikr. I still remember, when I played the song at a school function, when E=MC2 came out and everybody that showed up in my highschool was dancing and asking me to put Migrate on repeat. I'm almost positive the song would have been in the Hot 100 top 5, if not a #1 hit.

Article: Mariah Carey is performing with "no f---s given" (77,800)

The Mariah Carey way (77,799)
by Nikki from usa
| |
|
|
Over the years, Mariah's done things her own way. She actually did some very nice things on the Butterfly tour. She had an actual boxing match for Rainbow. Her circus theme for Charmbracelet with her own little moves worked seamlessly together. In between sets Mariah had a dj play songs like it was a huge club for the Adventures tour. The Imperfect Angel tour saw her singing a song on a swing of lace in the air. She's always had her own way of doing things to make a show entertaining without dancing or much of it. Celine has acrobats and practically a theme park around her at Vegas, since she, too, is a vocalist. She'd do better with something more creative oriented and original like she's done in the past, only something new. But, I think she's burnt out on performing old hits. Dancers love to perform and entertainers get a high out of performing before crowds. But, MC's juice has always come from being a songwriter and producer creating new music. A creator artist needs to create. Listening to the radio is depressing these days. We could use a good Mariah tune with a 24 hour deal.

Here I was hoping for something insightful. Instead, it's just big headed Anthony stroking himself. Other than performing lifts I didn't see any improvement from Mariah last year than her usual dance routines. She showed more passion for her Honey dance when it first came out and on the Butterfly tour. She had some choice moments in the 2000's too. This was actually something I thought might eventually happen. *burnout* Mariah's been going non stop. Last year doing a residency, a world tour, her tv show, a Mac line, and her annual Christmas concerts is a lot. She didn't slow down. It didn't show until this year she also threw in 2 movie cameos at some point too. Mariah isn't a performer yet she's performing more in the past 2 years than she ever did in the 90's. Mariah's a natural artist and she's not doing her craft which energizes her. A natural performer lights up onstage, but MC isn't that kind of artist. This is burning her out, her heart isn't in it. It shows. She doesn't need a great choreographer to keep her doing things she doesn't care about. She needs to quit performing old hits on the road and get back to making new music like the artist she is.

Maybe Mariah will hear of this and maybe re-think what is really going on and who Stella really is.

I love Mariah's dresses for this tour. Especially the black lace one with the straps floating in the wind. Very classy, very sexy, very complimenting of her body.

That song is garbage in my humble opinion. This just shows that fans nowadays will accept anything and make it a hit. I'm just waiting on an artist to put farts on a CD so I can sit back and watch all the fans rave about how so and so farted so well on those tracks. It's coming. Lol.

I'm glad someone is saying what needs to be said. I respect him for telling the truth without attacking her as an artist or a as person. I'm sure Stella Whoseitwhatsit will eventually comment how jealous he is and how he's just upset he got fired.

And just in case we forget, "Migrate" was charting on the Hot 100 without promotion, for crying out loud. It was charting on its own. Also, I remember walking on Oxford Street a few days after E=MC2 was released, and "Migrate" was blasting from a store. I mean, c'mon.

Anthony Burrell / Complex article (77,787)
by RibbonB from USA

Anthony cracks me up, I just love his honesty. The article is why Mariah has no [censored] to give. The article points out how Mimi seems a bit lackluster. Anthony seems to think it is because she has no guidance and direction since he left. He also reminds us that her team is inexperienced and not capable of properly handling a billion dollar corporation. No mention of Tanya, but the share was dripping through the story, IMO.

Edward you are absolutely right, Migrate not being a single was such a wasted opportunity. MC, Danja, and T-Pain created a smash that never happened the way it was supposed to. I feel like the new album official first single needs to be an uptempo song that can catch fire in the clubs and burn up the radio.

I can't believe she cut the second verse for the DVD "Around the World". I love this cut. I wonder why they/she did that. I was listening to her MTV unplugged and thought why she didn't sing the second verse of "If it's Over". When I saw her in Vegas, I was disappointed to not hear the whole "Love Takes Time". It's like the songs lose their meaning. Ha ha.

Thank God, I'm not alone lol. I heard all the hype, so I went to check out the song and I had to Google around to make sure I was listening to the correct song that everyone else was raving about because I was not impressed at all. I kept thinking to myself: this is what everyone's going crazy over? Why? I'm not even trying to hate. It just didn't captivate me.
