Re: Albums (74,918) (74,923) by Manny from U.S.
Speaking of "Emotions", I have these memories of when it was released. My art teacher in junior high would always [listen to] an adult contemporary radio station. I remember always anticipating the whistle note on "Can't Let Go" when they played it and it didn't have it. I couldn't believe they cut that out for the radio. When I saw the video, I was disappointed also. That whistle note is everything.

Yes, it's easy to fall in love with "Emotions". It's such a wonderful album, music that makes you dream and Mariah's voice were out of this world. With "TEOM" it's like you said, I also do enjoy the singles each one, but the complete album doesn't work for me like other albums from her. I don't know why. "Charmbracelet" is just a fine piece of art. I love the story/songs from the beginning to the end. It feels like a journey trough Mariah's diary. Music Box is perfect if you're in the "right" mood, there are times in life where you need pure Mariah ballads.

A bit? I'd say highly saccharine. I still like it but as long as I can keep Dreamlover, Anytime You Need A Friend, and Never Forget You I can live without the rest of that album. To a certain extent, I can definitely see what you mean about the track listing for TEOM. When I listen to the album as a whole, going in order, I always wind up skipping around on hyper speed once I get to Mine Again. I definitely feel like Say Something should come after We Belong Together but that's probably because I love the song more than Mine Again and I feel like it should follow my other faves lol.

Emotions is probably my most listened to and favourite album of Mariah's, not counting Unplugged of course which for me is in its own league. It's a moving, beautiful album made with sincerity which is now sadly missing. Her look during that period was incredible. The embodiment of "classic Mariah", the videos were great, great single choices and promotional appearances too. The only album other than the debut that completely showcased her amazing range. The numerous producers on the first album made it lack coherency but this album had a continual mood and delivery. The C&C numbers were great, not to mention the Carole King collaboration (and the SNL/Grammy performances of If It's Over have got to be in almost every fan's top ten), and then the beautiful ending of Till The End Of Time and the haunting jazz influenced The Wind, I have no words. I gush about this album so much because it never comes up in convo. Everyone's always Butterfly this, TEOM that, but Emotions is a true underrated gem and an album I have loved from first listen to the current day. I play it daily.

Re: Hard out here (74,913) (74,919) by Jono from USA
The difference is Mariah's commercial success completely dwarfs Mary J Blige's. So people are always going to compare to the height of her popularity. Same goes for the voice, there's no secret that she possessed one of the greatest voices to ever exist. It's the unbelievably high standards that Mariah has to deal with, whereas other artists do not.

I think I posted a similar thing to this a few months ago, but I've recently listened through Emotions and Music Box in its proper sequence, without any shuffle or cherry-picking songs, and I fell in love with Emotions. It's such a stunning album, from the vocals to the lyrics. Music Box, however, didn't do really much for me. I think it was a bit too saccharine and a bit too watered down for me? (Hides from the incoming bricks thrown at me.) I've also finally listened to TEOM in its proper sequence, and surprisingly I also didn't really like it. Now, I love the songs in TEOM when I listen to them one by one, like stand-alone songs, but strangely, when put together in its proper tracklist, it didn't do much to me. It's almost the opposite for Charmbracelet for me, although to a lesser extent. I enjoy the songs in Charmbracelet, but feel like they sound better as a whole in its original sequence. (I'm still obsessed with Glitter and don't know when it would stop.)

Re: Bruno gets his 7th number one (74,916) (74,917) by B from USA
She looks good and she's been sounding good so if she hires a manager with actually industry connections and credentials, a stylist, and releases a great album with great songs she could easily score a comeback. The public has forgotten about NYE (which wasn't that bad when compared to the Rockefeller debacle) and Mariah's World (barely a million people watched the premiere and less than 400,000 watched the finale) so if she starts giving honest straight forward answers instead of playing up the diva act and goes on GMA and gives an amazing performance of say TGIFY like she does in Vegas she'd remind people why they love... She should have done this in the weeks following the NYE debacle but Stella saw it as her chance at her 15 minutes of fame since it was oblivious by that point Mariah's World was D.O.A.

Bruno gets his 7th number one (74,916) by darrian liu from taiwan
Finally That's What I Like crowns the Hot 100. I'm sick of seeing Shape of You on no. 1, it was annoyingly cute at first but it's just plain annoying. I'm happy that a song with actually great vocals tops the Hot 100. And JR, I also noticed how there's a lack of female artists in the top 40 currently. There's only one female artist in the top 10 currently and the artist is just a featured artist. Mariah could definitely make another comeback, with Gaga and Perry struggling, and with Bey still pregnant. The thing is, she has a really long way to go. She needs to retrain those vocals to at least 2004/2005 quality, hire a new stylist, fire everything and anything related to Crustella, and take some time off to freshen up, be inspired by things again and rethink about her career. Not to mention the damage repair she has to do to be likeable in the GP again. I think she could score a top 20 hit, with the right collaborators, or at least R&B hits. Also, wouldn't it be a great idea for her to include acoustic unplugged performances in her promo cycles (again, I'm being redundant)? It would re-establish her as one of the top vocalists in the industry.

Re: Empire (74,912) (74,915) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Nick said what he had to say keeping in mind that he can't make the mistake he did before of oversharing. He knew Mariah would not like it if he goes bashing Stella on Wendy so he didn't say anything but if you listen to his words he said something around the lines of "I'm not going to pull down a woman in this business because it's a very tough business for them", of course that's not the exactly quote but this was the gist. He never said "Stella is massively talented and is going to do anything to get Mariah to the top". If he thought she was good enough, he would say she is talented. He just refused to make fun of a woman in the business, so I'm taking it as if it was a man he'd spill the tea hahah kidding.

Re: Empire (74,911) (74,914) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't think so, I mean when you want to promote a song, you go to different shows, try to get performances at awards, do multiple interviews with the press, have several live performances. She just went on Kimmel and then talked to a few radio people but that went nowhere. The GP had no idea she had any music coming, only the fans who really keep up with her or follow her on social media knew that. And she can't get a hit just with the lambs, if the GP doesn't know, she won't get a hit. She released the song and then she went silent and then resurfaced weeks later to host 2 parties for radio personalities. It was already late by then, it had already fallen off the charts.

Hard out here (74,913) by RibbonB from USA
Mariah gets a lot of flack even when she has a number two release, because it wasn't a number one etc. Mary J. Blige's new release has been promoted, and even life changes have come into play with her divorce but her release is being touted as a top ten, vs. wow, what a flop of MIAM or Memoirs. Billboard projects MJB will move 60,000 to reach the top ten and there is no negativity to most posts about her release. MIAM was somewhere around that in its first week, I believe. Memoirs actually had some great songs too, and an even better first week, for top three, but Mariah got more pummeling than praise. Millions of M's fans know about her releases, she is just not going to sell like the 90's or pre-2008 even, because it is just harder to sell music, plus her fan base is all over the place on what we like or don't like.

Re: Empire (74,909) (74,912) by RibbonB from USA
Nick has said a couple of times that Mariah manages Mariah, meaning she makes the final decisions. I do feel she likes working with yes people, or in Stella's case someone who talks fast and comes off like she is doing what is best for Mariah, but it really looks like she is doing what is best for her and her family. Nothing is going to change, until Mariah makes that change as it is very unlikely that Stellar is going to jump her gravy boat. IMO it seems like Nick is trying to be constructive, but not to shake the boat too much, for the sake of his kids and of course, their mother.

Re: Empire (74,907) (74,911) by RibbonB from USA
She promoted "I Don't", it just didn't do extremely well. At a point, one does need to stop and move on to the next. She has let us know she has music coming later this year, but she does need to leave herself time and space to write it, so not sure which project she should be promoting at this point. I don't think Mariah depends on her name alone, to some extent she is grasping at straws, because it is just that hard, especially for female singers her age.

Even though I don't like the idea of Mariah morphing into Stella, I'm not going to complain because at least she's wearing pants. There was a moment where Mariah walked around in nothing but underwear or bodysuits. I'm going to look at the positives right now. Lol.

Re: Empire (74,907) (74,909) by Shezz from Pk
Totally. It also annoys me to no end when people like Nick say that she knows what she's doing, she's playing the game, she's a smart business woman, she's managing herself, Stella isn't and bla bla. I have no problem at all if she decides she's done with making music and she just wants to have fun and drive off into the sunset with Stella and the clan. But if she wants to make music she needs to do it right, if not for herself then for her fans. But then again her true fans are the ones who love whatever she does unconditionally, not us. I still remember a dialogue between M and Stella from episode 1 of MW - the only one I watched in which they are trying to plan the tour anf her wedding and M or Stella says something like, "You and me can do things others can't even dream of pulling off. We can do this." I honestly feel sometimes that she has no idea what is going on in the industry. Fingers crossed for the new album but I'm not betting on a sound and image reinvention. Whereas MIAM was more of the same, I did enjoy it and it had some gems.

Yes the family pic is cute, but I immediately zoomed in on Maria's feet. She has on flip flops. Guess those other shoes started to hurt. She had a normal undiva moment and I love it. Meanwhile in the other picture Roe Roe isn't impressed by anything. Lol.

Re: Empire (74,902) (74,907) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Doesn't it bother you that lately everything Mariah does seems so uninspired and half baked? It drives me crazy because I'm so used to the "perfectionist artist" Mariah. The uninspired projects combined with the even more uninspired, cheap and lazy promo just kills me. She seems to pick stuff up and think it's going to be a hit, then when it doesn't become a hit (because no one knows about it since it's not promoted) she just abandons it and moves on. She has to know that in today's business when even the current artists are struggling and doubling up on the promo to stay afloat, she can't expect her name alone to sell. She needs to let people know that she has a project out.

Re: Mariah-Stella (74,876) (74,904) by Malcolm from Asia
Absolutely yes, the influence of Stella on her is very obvious. Honestly her face looks different now compared to the first half of 2015, I think it was at the BBMAs or Ellen when I last saw that radiant and beautiful face she always have and I don't think it's even about aging but rather a product of cheek implant/s, I just hope we will not see the day where she will have butt implants too. Sorry to say this but the woman whose Mariah doesn't know is aging gracefully, she knows how to take of herself and her career and for me she won already from whatever the "feud" she and Mariah have. Celine is also at the Met Gala this year, where Mariah at? Oh probably planning to go at a fancy restaurant for Stella to call TMZ. One word for all of this bullshit, tacky. Mimi L. is right, this next album must be executed rightly, this is like her last chance to redeem herself just to be messed up by Stella with her very professional ideas and decisions. I'm glad Anthony Burrell said those things recently because it goes to show that we are not delusional to think that Stella is unfit as the manager of Mariah, a woman who probably pick the Kardashians as her family's role model. I hope Mariah can use her own Instagram to see what Stella and her kids likes and imitates because it's all things Kardashian. It's like Mariah's beliefs contradicts what Stella wants to achieve. I will just look forward to that day where I can see the headline "Mariah Carey fires her manager".

Billboard Hot 100: the tide is turning (74,903) by John from USA
Something "weird" is going on in the Hot 100. The current one is dominated by male artists, with only one female artist in the top 30. Interesting development. Maybe Mariah should take that chance and once and for all take this seriously. Lady Gaga's latest single looks like it's gonna flop. Katy Perry's Slave to the Rhythm is flopping, is getting a lot of backlash for her latest antics and is being slapped left and right on IG and twitter as a has-been. (Serves her right for shading Mariah when she has achieved less than 0.00000001% of what Mariah has. I think Mariah needs to once again nurture that gift that helped turn her life around, and figure out what brought her where she is now. Will Mariah finally take that chance, reinvent her sound, and fill that female void in the music industry?)

Did anyone see the episode in which Rumor Willis sang with Jamal? She sang. It blew me away and yes it was really was her singing. Mariah should have blown like that when she did her cameo or if she comes back she needs to sing the hell out a simple ballad like Rumor did.

Re: Mariah (74,893) (74,899) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I don't see a proper album roll out under Stella's control. I would be glad to be proven wrong, but we've seen her do roll outs for the singles and she even couldn't manage to do much with it, so I shudder to think how will she ever handle an album release. And this isn't just any album, it's a make or break album. If Mariah wants to make a comeback after the disasters of the last two years, this is her only chance. So I hope Stella stays away from the album promos and let L A Reid and some other professionals deal with it. Stella doesn't have the contacts to pull the strings.
