Re: Daydream (75,731) (75,745)

You'll make a terrible judge as a result of your tendency to be sentimental or is it bias? You obviously have an emotional attachment to that album, hence you can't or won't accept certain opinions. The term "buttery" cannot be used to describe her sound on "Daydream". That would be all her albums and recordings prior to "Daydream". By "Merry Christmas", that full buttery sound was thinning out into a more metallic slightly gritty raw sound though still very sonorous at her mix register that's when she projects and yes very effortless, especially in her whistle register. ("Daydream" was when Mariah actually mastered the used of the whistle register.) But her main chest voice diminished noticeably becoming lighter, airier and less dark. Remember that post a trained soprano wrote about "The diminishing of Mimi"? That's what she was referring to. Mariah's voice wasn't like Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera who are spintos, they thrill and cut easily and that's their strength (Christina overused hers though) hers was a heavy dark, buttery, firm and very resonant voice and not as bright. Her constant use of the whistles and singing outside her range is culprit. A classically trained vocal coach I follow on YouTube says Mariah's voice type is a "LyricoSpinto coloratura" soprano. Now that's a complicated voice. Lol. Also "Butterfly" is her Magnum opus don't even go there.

"Eric, are you excited about her upcoming Hallmark movies?" No not at all, I think Mariah is a terrible actress and after all the terrible movies I hope she never acts again. But I saw this news article today and I just wondered what happened with this deal. I hope it gets shelved forever.

No need to run for cover. That's your opinion. You're wrong, lol, but nonetheless you have the right to express your opinion. Funny you mention TEOM. That album to me sounds like Daydream, part 2. I love TEOM.

Side Effects featuring Jezzy (75,738)

I played Side Effects for my brother and he said why didn't she release that song as a single. I told him I had no idea. He said it reminds me of Breakdown and that if she released it today it would be a hit. I hope Mariah writes songs like Side Effects and Breakdown for her upcoming album.

It wasn't about me, it was about Martyn. I thought that she should know that a member of the Lambily had passed away. She never acknowledged me and I didn't want her to. I was hoping she would acknowledge Martyn and she did.

There was supposed to be one for Valentine's Day, that didn't happen. If I'm not mistaken they said they'll turn the AIWFCIY book into an animated movie. Don't know if that's for Hallmark or not. I honestly wish they'd stop milking the song too much. It's so huge on it's own.

Daydream is an album I hold close to my heart. The perfect blend of Pop and R&B. I think is the most cohesive album Mariah has ever released. Her voice was buttery and effortless, her whistle register was barely used, only to adorn certain tracks, and besides it wasn't really needed. The tracks flow seamlessly as if they were tied together but with different types of emotions. Whoever compares Daydream to TEOM in terms of voice quality, lyrics and delivery must be in need of hearing aid. TEOM was a great return to form overall, but her voice sounded strained and sometimes too nasal. While Daydream relies purely on her voice and lyrics and sound TEOM relies too much on belting and her whistle register almost in all its tracks, and Mariah didn't pen one single track by herself. I love TEOM, and I love myself some Butterfly, probably my favorite album, but Daydream is definitely Mariah's magnum opus. There's a reason why it had so many nominations and solidified Mariah's status as megastar.

The news of Martyn passing away has upset me in a way I never thought it could put me in such a bad mood. I'm absolutely devastated that such a beautiful, kind and joyful spirit has had his life taken by a senseless and disgusting act. So many things ahead planned for the next months. That is so unfair. I've been crying since yesterday whenever a picture of him shows up on Twitter. I'm really glad and touched that Mariah paid him tribute on social media, her message was really beautiful and I hope that it helped his family and close friends. My prayers and thoughts go to all of them, as well as all of the other victims. It's still uncertain yet but Ariana Grande could go back on the road after June 5, if that's the case then I'll definitely have a huge thought for him during the show that I'm supposed to attend. I've read one of his old tweets that says that if I'd pass away, I'd like "One Sweet Day" to be his funeral song, so this is my tribute to him that I posted on Twitter. "Now you're wandering around above us, looking downward as we cry. So young to die, how could you let it all pass you by." You'll forever be missed, rest in peace.

Oh please. Her voice was shot and suddenly metallic on "Daydream" and her vocal delivery was lazy and sleepy on most of the ballads. Not to talk Walter's overproduction especially "One Sweet Day" as if she were singing through another dimension. I really don't like that album as much. Try "The Emancipation of Mariah Carey" instead. (Oh dear *runs for cover*)

You're disgusting. What gives you the right to judge the value of someone's life? I do not think anybody in their right mind would not have sympathy and support for anyone suffering these vile acts worldwide. That does not mean we cannot single Martyn out to show respect. He is after all, one of our own, in that he is a lamb. People on this board will be more affected by Martyn's death because of his association to Mariah and this messageboard. We have every right to pay our respects. If you don't like it, then perhaps find a more appropriate web based community to share your "values" with.
