Terna pull yourself together. She's had bronchitis since 1997 according to you. Her voice is shot because she's an alcoholic. How many colds does she have to have before you realise that? The NYE "performance", if you can call it that, proves she lip syncs across her entire range now. I wonder how long the upper register has been falsified for? At any rate, I honestly give up with her now. She is not the dedicated, hard working, music loving, grown up, respected, mature, great singer she was when I fell in love with her. Now she cares about diamonds, billionaires, splashes, sparkly jump suits and click bait websites. Mariah's gift went years ago. I'll always be a fan of her earlier Sony days, and if all Stella has done is lift the lid on what that naive New Yorker with a gift from God became, then thank God she did. I had a vision of love, and it was all that you turned out to be indeed.

Does that ear piece in Stella's ear even work or is it her jst playing music and pretending to talk. Anyways Stella can't fire anyone because she won't fire family. Why on earth was Mishka on stage with Mariah during the countdown with all the celebs? Why was she there even after Mariah left? Fame hungry leeches.

What happened? (70,543)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I don't understand how this could happen. For those asking why she couldn't sing even with the ear piece malfunctioning (even though she did it many times before), I don't know much about live settings but from what I've gathered, both her ear piece and the on stage monitor was off. So basically she couldn't hear anything except for the audience yelling. Had her ear piece malfunctioned but the onstage monitor still on she could have pulled it through. The few words she sang were probably from cues she picked up from the dancers around her. However, now the question is why did this happen? Did she not rehearse? Didn't she post a picture a while before the show about her rehearsals? How did they not realize it then? Also it just breaks my heart that every time Mariah is on live TV, something big goes wrong, whereas she keeps slaying at events and concerts no one knows about. Also, let's suppose that they realized the mistake through Emotions, could someone not have switched the ear phone back on by the time WBT rolled around? I almost had a heart attack when they started playing the album version of WBT for her to lip sync to, I was like . Even Mariah was like "that's the album version". She completely gave up on stage. At this point Mariah should really considering starting afresh with a new team. Mariah there has been way too many mishaps these last 2 years for you to ignore. Let the DC mishap be the last disaster and leave it behind in 2016, with 2017, please get more professional, with yourself and your team.

What you call being blind, I call being level headed and observant, not just jumping on the hate bandwagon as so many of you have. There's always a logical explanation for events such as this. Do you actually think Mariah (a 27+ in the industry) knowing fully well the millions watching home and abroad intentionally f**ked up this performance knowing the backlash it would create? This isn't the first time she has performed on New Year's Eve. Listen to her when she talks, you can even hear how low and flat her intonation is indicating a sore throat. Damn Eric your message board is poison and it's affected even you.

NYE fail (70,540)
by Lee from UK
| |
|
|
I am happy that this happened. Firstly because it will help the blind lambs to see that actually, yes, she does lip sync various parts of her performance such as the whistle notes in Emotions or the whole track in WBT. Secondly, world-wide embarrassment will give her the kick up the arse she needs to come back fighting. Do what Beyoncé did after her lip sync fail and show the haters what you have got by delivering an epic live performance. Mariah was pissed because she was caught out. It was only a matter of time. I get why Mariah didn't bother to sing during Emotions because that way she avoids an awful mic feed leak. These massive outdoor events always seem to go wrong for Mariah. I don't know why she bothers.

Shezz her singing without the earpiece and monitors is what I didn't understand. Does she really need them or could she have at least attempted to sing without them? People are going to talk regardless. She could have at least tried. I feel like she just gave up. While I could see she was upset and I do feel bad, stuff like this should not be happening to a veteran in the music game. Mistakes happen, but this is happening too often.

Worst start to a year ever (70,538)

I was dreading this for the longest time but I guess it was only a matter of time before her luck ran out. I'm being more dramatic than necessary, but that's how you officially throw 26 years down the drain. I am beyond embarrassed. I am livid. It's sad when the very woman who wrote Clown as a diss song has become what she once hated. I don't care how and who is responsible for the "Sh*t happens" remark after the debacle, and I guess it doesn't matter, because that's pretty much what both Mariah and her team have become over the past year. Harsh, but true. I hope in whatever's left of my heart of hearts that she can come back from this, but right now, I honestly don't even think she's got it in her to do so. And it's not because she can't - but because it seems she just doesn't want to anymore. The music comes first? These days? Really? That will remain a joke until she proves me wrong.

I agree with you Nikki. Everything fell apart when it became live. It looks like she couldn't hear herself and she just gave up during the performance. It also look like they tried to salvage the performance by using a backing track, but that also failed. All she can do now is pull a Beyonce now. She is gonna have to prove to people she still got it. I know she thinks she doesn't have to prove herself because she been in the game for a long time but remember Beyonce lip singing fiasco. She held a press confere and all was well. I feel sorry for her but I will and always be a lamb.

I couldn't watch it. I had to stop once Emotions began. Her job was to get on stage and sing for 5 minutes. I don't understand how difficult it can be to put that together. I don't know whose fault this was but it doesn't really matter as it's Mariah's responsibility to have a team of professionals. The last 2 years have been filled with unbearable f-ups. I really don't get what the hell is wrong with her or her team. If they don't give two shits about her career or her obligations, no one will. They've gone too far this time.

Mariah - car crash (70,535)
by Jimbob88 from UK
| |
|
|
I feel like I'm watching a car crash in slow motion unfolding in front of the entire world. Beyond her professional reputation, which is now in tatters, I worry about her mental and general health. Her life is chaotic, vacuous and there seems to be a deep rooted unhappiness stemming from massive insecurities. Hence the booze, the drugs (?), the manic behaviour, the unpredictablity, the billionaire, the toyboy, the desperation, the vanity, the unfunny "jokes" and ultimately, the tears. It broke my heart when she muttered during the middle of the "performance" that she just wanted to be on holiday too. Mariah, people love you, you are a legend. Take time off, raise your kids (rather than objectify them on social media) and get the help you need, come back stronger than ever. You did it once before, you can do it again.

What was that? (70,534)
by Tiina from Finland
| |

This is awful, just awful. I'm not sure what went wrong there? What I don't get is why didn't she even try to sing? She's had problems with her ear monitors before yet was able to save the performance. At this point she can sing this song in her sleep. It certainly did not help to just stand there and even appear to have an attitude about the whole thing. Even if someone else made a mistake, as Mariah herself said, she will always be blamed for everything and the only thing she can do is apologize and keep it moving. Her attitude about it made her seem like the diva everyone thinks she is. The sad thing is that we had just began to gain back our momentum after the AIWFCIY fiasco but now that's all wrecked. And her team thought it was appropriate to address this on Instagram? So messy.

Wow I'm at a loss for words. Why does she still keep having these mishaps - it was that Jamaica Fantasy performance again but for the entire universe. I am sure there was some technical issue but why it wasn't rectified and why Mariah couldn't sing something without the audio monitors is strange. She did not want to appear like a fool in front of millions I'm sure so this is inexplicable - only some technical sound engineer can tell us why she couldn't attempt to sing over it? She's had similar issues before, TMB at GMA, DFAU at AMAs but always managed to pull it off. She had done half the work and looked great, it was too good to be true I suppose. I for one was sure this was going to be lipped for the most part of it. It's pissing off when people say she doesn't know how to lip well - anyone wh'os seen her SSFT and Beacon series knows she can lip pretty believably when she does. Was she worried about 2 voices coming up if she sang? Somebody once said in such settings you cannot hear the music at all without ear monitors. Lord knows. I don't expect lambs to be kind to her after this but just take a moment and look at her mortified face and imagine what she's going through. Yes she messed up but this wasn't her wanting to mess things up deliberately. And there were other forces at play here believe me as crazy as she is coming off this era, she did not go up in front of millions and deliberately not perform to look like an idiot. I do hold her responsible for not pulling her monitor out and going for it but then we know how her confidence is waning every year. She will bounce back like she did after 2014 Rockerfeller and will give us tons more to be happy and mad about soon enough. Hope she remains strong and knows that behind all these angry lambs messages there is undying love for her.

What to do now? (70,530)
by Liz Archer from Sweden
| |
|

I honestly don't think anything is going to happen after this. She is just going to shrug and say shit happens. If I was her I would fire everyone around her and start to take control or at least hire someone that is experienced with this, real professional and not just someone that is tough and acts like she knows it all. But she will probably blame the production team (not her team) and not take this serious. I have a feeling she won't realise that it's her team that is in the wrong her - and her attitude to the situation. I would have pretended to sing and do whatever act she was suppose to perform. Not just stand there looking upset. Look happy and dance and pretend it's part of the performance. This is not something you can retake, this is a live performance and why isn't she singing live? Why rely on lip sync? I am all type of confused and I am afraid this is just the continuation. I don't understand how she has become so unprofessional with coming late to gigs, mistakes like last performance and her lavish behaviour that is making it all worse. It's like she is in a bubble and not realising how bad it's making her look as a "professional" singer. Yes the audience is hard when things go wrong but that's expected in a business like this.

I don't care. When Beyonce had her national anthem moment, or Christina had her national anthem moment, fans and haters alike were bashing them. Bey turned that into good buzz for her next album at that time. So it all depends on the next step. It's midnight in my spot of the world. Happy NY everyone. "Don't be afraid, stand toll and say...". I respect all of your opinions, just take it easy and don't make harm to your health by all that negativity.

Mariah's career (70,525)
by Webmaster Eric from the Netherlands
| |
|
|
I'm afraid that if Mariah doesn't do something dratically, her career might be over. So here are my thoughts on what Mariah should do. Mariah should take a year off so she can: 1. Fire Stella and her entire family. 2. Go to rehab. 3. Exercise, so she gets in top physical form. 4. Remove all the implants. 5. Change her hair to the original colour and style. 6. Ditch the stiletto's, so she can walk on her own. 7. Take vocal lessons. 8. Send her children to school. 9. Record a killer album. 10. Hire a professional team (management and stylists). 11. Learn how to tell time, so she won't be late for everything. 12. Drop all the diva antics. 13. Learn how to be humble again. Have I forgotten something?

When I woke up this morning, I was excited to see Mariah's performance in New York (there is a time difference of 6 hours here in the Netherlands, something Stella probably doesn't know). But then I started reading all your messages and read the news and I became terrified. I still can't watch the performance, not even with the sound off. But some of the Twitter messages were very funny, like: "After that performance, Mariah Carey should be required to perform at the Trump Inaugural."

Can we finally stop blaming everyone else? (70,522)
by THE TRUTH from USA

Mariah got paid big bucks for that epic disaster. She's been in the game far too long to drop the ball like that. In the 90's she very rarely lip synched but had she found herself in that situation she would have ad libbed her way out of the mess seamlessly like the consummate professional she once she was. Any good singer could have managed that situation, played it off and come out looking great, laughing the mishap off later. The fans would have loved her for it. Sorry but the fact that she has to lip synch in the first place is tragic and if people want to still believe that there isn't a much darker scenario going on behind the scenes well denial aint a river in Egypt.

What I didn't understand about that performance is why she didn't try to sing after the first misshap with Emotions. We hear that earpiece thing alot and I heard her say she couldn't hear. Can someone explain to me about the earpiece and what prevented her from just singing what she could? She just walked back and forward and she pretty much gave up when WBT came on. She didn't even care that her lips didn't match the song playing. Also that Twitter statement was not Mariah. If she was crying afterwards like the blogs are reporting the statement that was made sounded nothing like a woman who was upset about what happened.
