You are right, I couldn't agree more. Respect is earned not given and as how Mariah representing herself in public, I think the ridiculous/harsh write ups and articles will always be there.

Very happy for you Jenny. At the end of the day, it's about the music and the person and the experience of fun. Perhaps the fans (in general) will lighten up a bit sometime. One day, just like Selena and Prince and Marilyn Monroe, Mariah won't be around to inspire or be able to see at a live show, or to record new music or to impact people in many positive ways.

On the subject of image / Article: A view from the top (61,752)
by Andrew from UK

As per my previous post, if you treat your image like shite, the press and the public may fall out of love with you, or even begin to dislike you. This article is a throat-ripping, blood curdling attack of Mariah because the journalist doesn't like her. People really do dislike Mariah because of how she conducts herself. And whilst many of the stories are embellished or false, there is no smoke without fire. At the risk of repeating myself, Mariah needs a serious image overhaul. Maybe in the Golden Years instead of acting like an aloof sex-industry worker (bit harsh? okay okay) she could come up with a PR plan to reengage with the public and the press. Charity work, charity concerts, good music, dignified videos, self-deprecating interviews. It may be a great denouement to a significant career. I'm pretty sure there are some fans who could manage Mariah's PR much better than it has been for the past eight years. Perhaps instead of being aloof and counting her dollars and diamonds, get some actual fans to consult with her on the way forward. I know a dashing blond, blue-eyed British guy who could help. But I think she'd probably rather punch me in the [censored].

"Nicki Minaj's recent stint in the country, which witnessed sold-out concerts and throngs of devotees desperate to catch a glimpse of their Harajuka Barbie." I'm really curious whether Miss Minaj will be able to have a sold-out concert on the 26th year of her career (or a concert, or even a career). So should the writer of this thing called article.

I went to her concert tonight and her voice sounded so strong and clear. YouTube videos do not do her justice. She was amazing. Seeing her perform live and so close was a dream come true.

I agree. Or at least make a separate charting category for songs with features. She might get more than Mariah but having more number 1's made of just your own songs with only you singing is more honourable.

Billboard better change their darn rules and rule out featured artists on #1 songs getting the #1's added to their tally. It wouldn't affect Mariah at all because all her #1's are her songs. But it will knock Rihanna down a couple of numbers.

I think she will and it's a shame. She's a [censored] who uses manipulations to score #1's. Umbrella is arguably her biggest song and Work has spent more weeks at #1 than it did and that song sucks. If she breaks Mariah's record imagine how the Elvis fandom will react. They almost rioted when a talented singer songwriter with an amazing voice broke his record.

This is the full performance, one of the best indeed, her tone is unbelievable. I feel that she just holds back in "cause I can't go on" but she can really pull that off. It's sad because if other artists did this, surely it will blows up the media and praise galore.

Sad but true. However, if she had followed the traditional album release rollout for Beyonce and Lemonade both would have preformed similarly to 4. I think she's overrated. I don't understand how anyone can listen to Lemonade and think it's more raw or honest than MIAM. Lemonade is calculated. It's messy and uneven and in my opinion it's tied with 4 as her worst release. I love Scandcastles but that's it. I don't find it inventive or groundbreaking. It's Beyonce taking concepts and ideas used by other artist and incorporating it into her work and being praised for it. Maybe Jay-Z is influencing her or he's writing her songs, lol. I agree she hasn't released a great song in years. I liked 7/11 and I like Scandcastles but neither are as good as Me, Myself, And I or Crazy In Love.

Rihanna / Calvin Harris song (61,739)
by Malcolm from Asia
| |
|
|
It turns out Rihanna is desperate to have another #1 song by depending on another collaboration/artist. It seems like she cannot reach the top 10 alone and must be accompanied by another big artist to crack the top charts. I don't know but my honest feeling about this is that The Beatles and Mariah will seem to be cheated in that sense if Rihanna surpasses them by these tactics. It's not bad to collaborate but she's like really trying hard to beat them by it. Perhaps this is really how the modern music industry works.

I think the reason Beyonce sold as much as she did was because of how they rolled out the album. That HBO movie was a stinking genius idea. I have to give her props on that. I'm not a huge Beyonce fan, but I do like a few of her songs. I try to be fair when she releases something and at least give it a listen. IMO this album is not what it was hyped to be. That movie helped to sell an otherwise lackluster album. I didn't care for the album before this one, but IMO that one was way better to me. If the rumors about Bey and Mariah working together are true, all I want is a great song. This is not my dream duet, but if it gets me new music I'll deal with it. Lol.

Needing help/support from the lambily (61,736)
by ZachSingsMariah from USA
| |

|
Hey lambs. I have been trying to get Mariah and her people to notice my Zach Sings Mariah show since last October, but after relentless effort on my own I still have not achieved much. I know she has an army of people around her that make it tough to communicate with her, but I know deep in my heart that Mariah would enjoy seeing these videos and be flattered and hopefully impressed. It is such a huge dream of mine to meet her and thank her for the music in Zach Sings Mariah and the ways she has changed my life. Anyway, here is a playlist with all of 15 performances from the show as well as a few promotional previews I made. If each one of you would do what you can to share the entire playlist, or maybe pick your favorite video to share with your friends and fellow lambs on social media, and tag Mariah Carey or Stella Bulochnikov or really any of the people around her (MaryAnn, Takeytha, Trey, Big Jim, Anthony Burrell, etc.) I would be so grateful. I would love for MC to see that this show is permeating beyond just me and my university here in Nashville and is reaching a global audience. P.S. I'm sorry to the board poster who was excited to see "Now That I Know", we ended up cutting that song at the last minute. Still, I think the set is pretty awesome. I tried to satisfy all the lamb favorites. Please enjoy.

(61,735)
by Baby from Dreamville...Where There's No Beginning & There is No End
| |

Mariah Carey's entire existence is political. Her family and national history before she was ever born saw to that. The very idea of Mariah is a defiant statement at its core. She's a light skinned black American woman and living musical legend. When she opens her eyes in the morning, millions breathe a collective sigh of relief because she is that intrinsic to their own breathing. When she speaks, she is quoted in every media outlet out there and when she sings the whole world listens. Tell me one politician who wouldn't kill to have the influence she has had on numerous people since day 1. All the choices that were made for her, from the disownment of her mother, her father's absence after her parent's divorce (caused in large part by the mere fact of their interracial union) to her own choices of abstaining from drugs and promiscuity through marriages, both corporate and otherwise. These have all been political expressions because (like any of us) Mariah is a child of her time. Mariah's actions speak for themselves even without her song-writing IMO. She named a whole album Rainbow. More than that, she actually lives her philosophies and has always surrounded herself with the most diverse cohorts whether race, gender, sexuality etc. Being "apolitical" was never a choice Mariah could have made even if she wanted to. That privilege is reserved for rich white males. So anyone negating her impact, cultural, political, interpersonal or musical is nothing but a contrarian. Besides, MC is a monarch anyway so this discussion was redundant before it even began.

She actually went for that note "just one more night with you". It's like the first time she attempted the "Lord knows" note after years of dodging the note. The note is kinda shaky but if she continues to hit the note in My All performances, it would become phenomenal (like what happened to the "Lord knows" note). Her confidence has been blowing through the roof and she's singing notes she usually dodged for years. Her second coming is arriving real, real soon.
